6 Top Party Tips

1. Avoid the pressure of who to choose to invite to your child’s birthday party from their class – share the party with another child who has a birthday around the same time. Invite half the class each. It halves the cost and no child gets left out.

2. Take a group photo of everyone at the party and use it to make a thank you card to everyone who came.

3. Give the children a craft activity to do as they arrive – such as a large piece of paper they can decorate to use as a place mat. For toddlers, include an art project at the end – this calms them down before they are released into the general population. You will find many free children’s craft activities here.

4. When playing party games, make sure each one lasts no more than 5 minutes – any longer and children can become bored. You will find many party game ideas here.

5. Write out name labels for each child. When they win a prize stick the label onto the prize. Not only does this name the prizes, but you get to see who you have left and who hasn’t won a prize yet.

6. Plan, plan, plan! Involve the birthday child as much as possible – choosing the theme, games, music etc. Have a rough timetable of what you will be doing and when. Make sure you prepare the party bags well in advance – you’d be amazed the amount of parents I’ve seen at parties who are still filling party bags 10 minutes before the party is due to finish! Expect lots of noise and chaos and embrace it. So long as you have planned well, all will be fine!

We're always saying that we listen to our customers, and try to give them exactly what they want, and I like to think that in most cases, we do just that. So when a customer contacted us recently suggesting that our Hooty Owl was perhaps a little too macho for a girl, we took note, and provided a very girly pink one!

Something to warm the cockles....

What do you do when you receive an item in the post that is addressed to your house, but has another person's name on it and is clearly not for you? Chuck it in the bin? Scribble "return to sender" and try and remember to shove it in a post box when you next go out? Or do you do what a lovely lady in Lancashire did yesterday?

She received a parcel filled with personalised printed wedding party bags which were clearly not for her. Instead of doing any of the above, she took the packing slip, rang the number on it (i.e. mine) and explained she'd received these items but hadn't ordered them. She was so concerned that somebody may be without their special party bags on their big day that she ofered to forward them to the original customer.

It transpired the customer had left a digit off the address, and only lived down the road, so was able to walk down and collect her parcel.

What's the point of me telling you this, you ask? Well, not much, apart from that it really touched me that a person could put herself out to help somebody she didn't know, even though she could have just binned the goods, denied all knowledge of having received them, and nobody would have known any different.

Distance sellers like myself have to be constantly vigilant against internet fraudsters, and it's very easy to be mistrustful of people in general when you've lost several hundreds of pounds to fraud (as I have done). It's just really nice to be reminded that there are good people in the world! This one act of selflessness prevented what could have been a drawnout dispute between the original customer and myself, but instead, everything ended up peachy!

For a long time now, wedding planners have been coming to us for personalised wedding party bags and boxes.

As well as making lovely gift bags, if you fill them with activity toys, colouring and activity books, they are the ideal way to keep children happy (and quiet!) during the parts of the day they may find boring.

Of course, we also sell plenty of party bag fillers to go in the bags, but to make things easier, we've also put together a few pre-filled wedding activity packs. Way back at the start of the Credit Crunch (remember that?) we introduced a £1.00 filled party bags range. I think it's safe to say that many of us are still feeling the pinch, so we've decided to bring them back, in a new format.

Each £1.00 party bag filler pack contains at least 3 items and comes in a clear cellophane party bag that is sealed with either a twist tie or a label. You can either give them out like that or pop them into your own party bags.
