I was so excited about this table during the auction. The only problem I found when I got up close to it (after the purchase) is it had a bad mosaic top. It was very ugly and somewhat damaged. Hmmmm what to do?? Pull out the chalk paint of course. We took away the ugly motif and now it is a great pop of color. Perfect for a covered porch or room where you want a pop of color It was given a clear wax finish for longevity.

Chalk paint your planters!

I have a pretty good collection of these lightweight planters that I have purchased over the years. The problem is over time they get pretty shabby (not the good kind of shabby) looking. I decided to mix up a custom batch of chalk paint from my collection of latex paint and redid both of these pots. I couldn't be happier. They now match each other in color and look brand new for zero dollars!

When they dried a gave them both a quick coating of clear wax, then went in with some brown wax to show off some of the highlights of the pot.

Now I am even buying these at thrift and garage sales and getting them even cheaper, and they will be painted to match the rest of my newly painted planters.

Pet loss, sometimes you need a good quote for comfort

Here are some pictures from some of the updates this week. The hobnail jars are really hot right now, so we doubt this display will stay for long.

We have gotten some great risers too made from reclaimed wood, they are awesome to put on the island or table.

I have been making these little frames with chicken wire to hold jewelry, coupons, memos etc.
We have so many projects in the cue, will update as we get them finished.

New Trinket Necklaces

Here is what I have been making this week gearing up for a show in a couple of weeks.

The silver toned necklace has a soldered box I made for this cool French medal I found while antiquing in Savannah. I may have to keep that one for myself.

If you have never had it, it is a sweet and salty combo of deliciousness. I once jumped out of a moving car when I saw they were making it at my Home Depot. My best friend nearly burned down the house when her husband preheated the oven with a bag of kettle corn hidden in there for lack of her ability to share it. At fairs they have a giant kettle that they make the stuff in and it looks incredibly intimidating. All you need is a Whirly Popper, or the knock off version that allows you to crank the handle and stir the popcorn while it's cooking. Mine looks pretty disgusting, but it's just a patina I assure you.

You will also need granulated sugar, cooking oil, and good quality popcorn (spring for the Orville Redenbocker it's worth it).

Place 1/3 cup of cooking oil, 1/3cup of sugar, and 1/3 cup of popcorn into the popper, close the top and turn on the heat to medium high. If you want your popcorn a fun color like my blue popcorn shown in the picture, just add a couple of drops of liquid food coloring now before you start heating. Have a cooking sheet and your salt shaker ready for your popcorn. Keep cranking the handle while you hear the colonels start to pop and pull it off the heat as soon as you hear it start to slow down.

Carefully dump your popcorn onto the baking sheet and use a spatula to spread it out and start shaking some salt onto the popcorn. It is very hot and sticky now and the salt will stick to it now.

Go ahead and try it, I promise it is just as good as the stuff you pay $6.00 a bag for at the fair. Let me know what you think!

Love these old milk crates being used for storage. We have these quit often in our booth, and usually there is a nice amount of rust to make them look extra special. We also sell a lot of wire basket that are new, but have a patina to look old.

Look at them in mass, now that is what I need in my office. I am very visual, if I don't see it, I just go repurchase it. Have fun getting organized, consider spreading in some wire baskets functional and so stylish.

Picmonkey is a free photo editing site. I just found it and love it. Maybe it's been around for awhile and I just didn't know it. I love the effects they have, they do have some that are for a fee, but there are plenty of free ones to try. You can add all kinds of effects to give a vintage feel or even add text to the photo. You can see these same photos before I played with them in the previous post. I used the HDR effect and a couple of others. I love the vibrancy it adds. It's fun give it a try, and it's free!!

Cowgirl birthday party

I got to help my friend with her daughter's ninth birthday. The kids loved the animals, but mostly Lula Mae, the llama. I had never been around a llama before and I can not tell you how much I love her. She is like a large Golden Retiever dog. She follows you around, cuddles up with her neck and even wags her tail when you give her some sugar. Too bad you can't have a llama in a subdivision.

More jewelry

I have been cranking out the jewelry lately. It is the unofficial kick off of Spring. Here in the South the Cherry trees bloomed a couple of weeks ago, daffadils are blooming too. So we are ready to start planning our gardes and homes to welcome Spring and Easter.

Mary is an awesome partner, she is full of creativity and she is willing to clinb up on anything to get things hung. After she got hit in the head with a board we played it safe and used a ladder. And yes, that is my finger in front of the camera (what a rookie).

The back wall we lined with crinkled up kraft paper. It adds so much texture, looks like drapes.

This bottom photo is in my Sassy booth, sorry it's a bit blurry. We did a fishing wall with our vintage minnow buckets and my folk art fish. I love the mix.

If you are in the Atlanta area the Spring Fling at Queen of Hearts Alpharetta is March 21-24. There will be prizes, presentations, and good garden party snacks. We hope you will stop by!

Trinket necklaces and other new jewelry

I have a show coming up in a couple of weeks and have started creating some new jewelry. Here are some pictures of new necklaces I have been working on lately.

The trinket necklaces are so much fun to make. I am quite the hoarder of charms and do dads. I just pick and choose from my stash and create these fun necklaces. I also am pouring lots of resin these days. Here are some sweet map charms I made. I just love old maps, the graphic nature and the colors. Some of these necklaces will be available in my etsy shop very soon.

Ok this post has nothing to do with I usually post on my blog, but I couldn't help myself. I saw this on dog on Pinterest and am smitten with it. It is a Golden Cocker Retreiver. It will always look like a puppy and not get any bigger. I have a 3 year old Golden Retreiver that I adore, I would love to have her smaller version too. My husband told me to just forget about it. No way I am getting one of these dogs, it just may take awhile to soften him on the idea.

Sassy and Stash booth updates

I haven't posted pictures of the antique booths in awhile. The top picture is of a new three drawer chest. The color is a soft robin's egg blue (our custom chalk paint color). The lamp on top is vintage wooden and painted with Van Gogh chalk paint in the color Van Gogh. It's a cool color love it. Be sure to like us on Facebook! We all are probably guilty of hanging onto to many t-shirts from concerts, college etc. I have seen where you can send your shirts off and have them made into a quilt. I think this would be great if all of the shirts had a related subject matter. I think this is a great idea for all of those shirts that have special memories associated with them or they just are a favorite.

Source: thenotsoblankcanvas.blogspot.com via Valerie on Pinterest

Staple them to inexpensive canvas' and use them as wall art. What a great idea, the canvases are super affordable (especially with those 40% coupons the craft stores hand out so freely). It would also be a quick project with instant gratification. The only potential problem that I see with this is..... you will have to cut the tee up, never to be worn again. If you can do it this is a great project.

Making ottomans out of old tables

I love this idea of taking an old ugly coffee or end table and converting it into an ottoman. Here are some samples I found on Pinterest.

Source: newlywedmcgees.blogspot.com via Valerie on Pinterest

Source: craftysisters-nc.blogspot.co.uk via Valerie on Pinterest

I have to admit I have done this twice with old coffee tables. They work a little easier in the matter of height. They usually don't need to be cut down on the legs to make them a comfortable height. The best thing about this project is you probably already have a good table sitting around just waiting to be converted.

This last one looks like it has some great photos and instructions. Send me a picture if you get one made yourself I would love some more inspiration.

We took a petite armoire removed the doors, added a shelf that was missing and beadboard on the back.

Wouldn't it look great in a bathroom with storage for towels in the open area and all of your ugly stuff in the drawers. I also think it would be great for storage in a craft room. Baskets in the open area could hold fabric and the upper shelf for paint. The rest of my tools could go into the drawers.

There is an abudance of these armoires out there. Everyone seems to be ditching them for their tv since they now want to hang them on the wall. Go get one and make it your own.

The kind that will take hours to untangle. I always swear I am not going to just through things back in my jewelry drawer, but I do. So I was looking for some creative and stylish ways to store my jewelry and here is what I found on pinterest.

Source: bhg.com via Jamie on Pinterest

This three tiered tray is awesome would be great for bracelets. Also there is a little stand with a pole on it that bracelets are stacked on too. I think I could make that in about 3 minutes. There is even a board for necklaces behind that. So many ideas in one photo.

Source: brassrazooboutique.com via Jamie on Pinterest

This would be awesome for wall storage if you don't have enough counter space.

How about filling your drawers with vintage tart tins for this cute storage.

Here is a recent redo with an antique chair that got a new coat of black paint that we distressed and then covered the seat with a stenciled cotton fabric.

I sell the fabric stenciled and ready to go for you in my etsy shop. Now you too can get this same look for your old chair. You can see the selection here.

I have not tried this myself, but hope ir is true. Supposedly you can get these printed at Staples as an Engineers Print for $4.99 This would be great for decorating some of those large awkward walls I have. Has anyone done this? Let me know please.

FitBit Challenge Anyone??

Source: rei.com via Jenny on Pinterest

My son gave me a FitBit for Christmas and I love it! It is a pedometer, but so much more. It clicks on your clothes and tracks total steps, mileage walked, and calories burned. Is it super exact? I am not sure. What I am sure about is that it is very motivating for me to get moving. It also syncs to your smart phone and computer. I can open the app on my phone at anytime to see how I am doing. I also can keep my food logged on the app to see cals in vs. cals out. If that weren't enough, you can invite your friends who have a FitBit to link with you and challenge each other. When I log in I can see if I am moving as much or less than my friend even taunt or cheer her. Of course I would only cheer my friends. So anyone else get a FitBit? Wanna challenge with me?

New Jewelry at the Queen

This bracelet design has been one of the most popular designs I have made in the last couple of years. I brought it in as well as a couple more pieces to freshen the booth.

These are pretty blingy, but can you have too much bling? I think not. Either would be great for New Year's Eve.
