This gives some weight to old wives tales like ‘bacon for boys’, and Dr Rosenfeld, of the University of Missouri, has gone on to say that a low fat diet and long periods of fasting increase the chances of having a girl.

The research done states that taking on a high fat diet around the time of conception enhances the chances of having a boy from ten to eleven boys in every twenty. It goes on to say that daughters and sons are at different risk for diseases later in life, relating to the diet of the mother or the condition of her body during the pregnancy. For example, sons of obese mothers are more likely to suffer from obesity than daughters of the same, and potentially suffer diabetes in later life – even if the birth weights are the same.

Zoe and DJ hubby Norman Cook spent five years trying to have a brother or sister for their first child Woody. It was only after six weeks abstinence from drink that they finally succeeded, having considered IVF and even adoption beforehand.

She admits that whilst pregnant she happily ate for two (plus an additional three) and ended up a size 18, and now she is content to be healthy and do gentle exercise rather than being a celebrity mum who gets back into shape in weeks.

Refreshingly, Zoe says that she is never going to be tiny and we’re not likely to see her posing in her undies any time soon!

The couple have not yet announced the sex of the baby, who will join sisters Petal Blossom Rainbow, Poppy Honey and Daisy Boo.

Also this week model and Big Brother contestant, Danielle Lloyd, has announced that she is four months pregnant with footballer Jamie O’Hara. The baby is due in July and the news is made all the more special because, as a sufferer of Polysystic Ovary Syndrome, Danielle was once told that she would never be able to have children.

Our best wishes go out to both couples at this wonderful time.

Regular readers of my blog will know that I have, on occasion, featured La Fee Noire and today I have a very exciting update from our very own black fairy.

Rachel has just launched a new designer range of petite lingerie from a company called HOTmilk and, in her own words, ‘it’s lush!’ The collection features beautiful pieces such as the HOTmilk Cherry Bomb Chic Non Wired Bra (featured right) at a very reasonable £27.

As if that wasn’t enough, La Fee Noire has also decided to introduce a celebrity endorsed brand of maternity sports wear known as Sporty Bump. A range created for women who are keen to continue to exercie throughout their pregnancies, and is also perfect for new mums-to-be who wish to get back into shape. The word on the street is that this particular brand of maternity sports clothing is VERY popular with the ex-Eastenders mums.

To give you a taste of what to expect from La Fee Noire’s new sports range then there’s no better example than the Cross Over Style Maternity Sports Top (pictured left) at £20. This top comes with inner bra support, providing amazing comfort and the wonderfully versatile design will look as much at home in the gym as it will in a yoga class!

A committee for the European Parliament is now backing the move to extend full-paid maternity leave to 20 weeks, where current legislation allows for only 14.

Currently women in the UK are entitled to one year off work, the first six weeks paid at 90% and then 33 weeks on Statutory Maternity Pay, with remainder being unpaid. This new proposal will go before the European parliament in March, but there are some concerns that it could lead to a certain amount of discrimination towards women of child-bearing age should these new rules come to pass.

There is no guarantee that this proposal will be given the go-ahead as a similar one was voted out 18 months ago. That one proposed 20 weeks maternity leave with 6 at full pay.
