Impossible Motion – Awesome illusion

2011-11-11T18:14:00.001+05:30

The image you see is of the winner of the 2010 Best Visual Illusion of the Year Contest. Called “Impossible Motion: Magnet-like Slopes.

This is a piece of an amazing illusion where it seems to deny gravity where the balls are traveling up the slopes rather than down. This is possible since the picture is placed on a flat surface like you monitor. The illusion makes it appear that objects are rolling towards higher ground. Looking closely won’t help, but looking from a different angle may.

This video is in real time and life, there are no special effect involved, just pure illusions. The illusion was created by Koukichi Sugihara from the Meiji Institute for Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciences, Japan.

Apple’s New iPhone 4S wins many hearts in just 12 hours

2011-10-12T01:27:00.001+05:30

O god, this has come as a total surprise package with AT and T selling off more than 200,000 iPhones of the latest Apple in the first 12 hours. Very unfortunately Apple made the announcement of the death of Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple whose legacy involved the Apple II, iPhone, iPod, Macintosh, iMac and iPad on 6th October.

But the latest iPhone was seen making out-of-the-world surprising demand, which was released a day just before the death of the great remarkable man Jobs.

The iPhone made a grand entry in the market on Tuesday and right away the overexcited fans grabbed this wonderful opportunity, who had waited for more than 15 months for this innovative stylized design.

It was on Friday that AT and T, Verizon Wireless and Sprint had commenced to take the US online orders for the awesome device. But its’ been heard that the Wall Street analysts are wagering that the current hardware updates and software increases, involving a good evaluated voice recognition software system will surely draw the buyers towards it.

Estimations are doing the rounds with few analysts also anticipating Apple to sell around 27 million to 28 million iPhones in October-December quarter.

The previous stage of smartphone, iPhone 4 was the quickest to sell the mobiles in Apple’s history, making a mark of sale of 1.7 million devices in the first three days. Last year AT and T became the only carrier to see the phone. Now its’ been tough in comparisons, and the reason behind is that iPhone is supported by three wireless operators versus one.

Taking you to surprise, the latest iPhone 4S is banging the store on Oct.14 whole over the world making a first public appearance at a crucial point for Apple.

As per the reports, Jobs who was suffering for a long time with pancreatic cancer appointed the top-seeded job to Cook in August. According to the analysts, people who are all placed to celebrate the legacy of Apple’s famous co-founder may surely lift up the latest iPhone to be revealed in his lifetime, giving a heights to the sales. As soon as the new CEO Tim Cook took over the rein, there were sheer competition being provided by the phones based on the Google Inc’s Android, like Samsung’sGalaxy.

Though Apple was not available to share any comment, but after long hours of trading, the shares in Apple was well-balanced at $370.

Last night, Apple arrived with a grand entry of iPhone4S pre-orders after midnight. AT and T are having excellent demand for Apple’s new smartphone, as per MacRumors’s report.

Loads of criticism which the company met across for its latest handset, has not at all affected the consumers from grabbing this opportunity. Its’ been believed by AT and T that almost 200,000 mobiles have been sold and much more to go in the runaway.

There were have been hundreds and thousands of people who have congregated online last night to make sure that they did be the very first one to grab the new iPhone. They have really faced the huge delays and site crashes to finally secure their orders successfully.

As AT and T making all the surprising noises, selling almost a quarter of a million handsets in 12 hours, the iPhone4S is completely ready for its sales record. MacRumors discloses that though few critics are not satisfied, still Apple’s iPhone sales demand are rising, especially in US and many other countries.

Man attacked wife for not ‘Liking’ his Facebook status

2011-10-11T18:11:00.000+05:30

A 36-year-old Texas man has pleaded not guilty to battery charges after allegedly attacking his estranged wife for failing to “Like” a status update he posted to Facebook.

Benito Apolinar, of Pecos, was arrested on Tuesday after fighting with Dolores Apolinar at her home in New Mexico, the Carlsbad Current- Argus reports.

Police said Apolinar, 36, posted an update on his Facebook page about the anniversary of his mother’s death and became angry after his wife, who he only recently separated from, did not click the “like” button to show she appreciated his comment.

Apolinar was allegedly drunk when he confronted his wife of 15 years at her home while dropping off his children on Tuesday night.

“That’s amazing everyone ‘likes’ my status but you, you’re my wife. You should be the first one to ‘like’ my status,” he allegedly told her.

The pair began to fight after Apolinar refused to leave the property, and he allegedly punched his wife in the cheek and pulled her hair.

Apolinar has pleaded not guilty and is due to appear in court on December 22.

Sony Pictures Acquiring New Steve Jobs Biography For Major Feature Film

2011-10-10T15:10:00.000+05:30

EXCLUSIVE: I’ve just learned that Sony Pictures is making a hefty deal to acquire feature rights to Steve Jobs, the upcoming authorized biography by former CNN chairman and Time Magazine managing editor Walter Isaacson.

I’m hearing the deal is $1 million against $3 million and that Mark Gordon will be the biopic’s producer. But this will be an MG360 project, which is the movie production partnership between Gordon and Management 360. ICM reps both Isaacson and Gordon. Sony Pictures would not comment. The studio seems a good fit for the book, having boiled business books into compelling dramas with both the Oscar-nominated The Social Network and Moneyball. The Isaacson book was supposed to be published on November 21st by Simon & Schuster, but now the release date has moved up to October 24th, according to a spokeswoman for the publisher. This was the hottest about-to-be biopic in Hollywood. [Will Hollywood Book Biopic Of Steve Jobs?] The 448-page profile is based on over 40 interviews with the Apple co-founder and over 100 conversations with friends, family members, colleagues and competitors. And it’s a compelling story: the building of the world’s most valuable technology company by creating the devices that changed how people use electronics and revolutionized the computer, music, and mobile phone industries. Jobs gave his full cooperation but had not read it as of mid-August. At first titled iSteve: the Book Of Jobs, Isaacson had second thoughts about what was appropriate for the first biography to get Jobs’ blessing and cooperation. Even when it wasn’t even finished, it made it (briefly) into the top 50 on Amazon’s bestseller list. Isaacson eventually persuaded his publisher Simon & Schuster to go with the simple title of Steve Jobs. First planned for 2012, the book’s release date was moved up.

Jobs reportedly fought off a long list of would-be biographers over the years then chose Isaacson, who’s written about Henry Kissinger, Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein. Jobs himself said he had no skeletons in his closet, though there were things he’d done he wasn’t proud of. But he was touchy about his personal life, understandably. According to Fortune magazine, in the early 1980s Jobs invited Michael Moritz, then Time‘s Silicon Valley reporter, to chronicle the Mac’s creation for the book that became The Little Kingdom (1984). But when Moritz reported, in Time‘s 1983 Machine of the Year, a detail about Jobs’ family, access was abruptly cut off.

At the time of Jobs’ death, only one movie had ever chronicled his rise to tech titan: Pirates Of Silicon Valley, a semi-humorous docudrama about the two visionaries behind Microsoft and Apple based on the book Fire In The Valley: The Making of The Personal Computer by Paul Freiberger & Michael Swaine. Shown on TNT in 1999, the telefilm starred Anthony Michael Hall as Bill Gates and Noah Wyle as Jobs. Reportedly, Jobs thought the ER actor did a fantastic job donning the turtleneck. And, during the Macworld NY in July 1999, Jobs had Wyle come out dressed like him to start the keynote. TNT re-aired Pirates back-to-back on Thursday night in tribute.

Why Entrepreneurs Love Steve Jobs

2011-10-10T14:48:00.000+05:30

"Did you see the news?" said the text from my friend. "It's so sad," he continued.

It is both rare and special to witness such a spontaneous outpouring of love and admiration for the passing of a CEO. The last time we saw similarly spontaneous vigils was when Princess Diana died. But the love we’re expressing for Steve Jobs is not due solely to his genius or his vision. It is not just because he defined a digital generation. Steve Jobs is much more special than that.

Steve Case, the co-founder of AOL, and Larry Ellison, the co-founder of Oracle, are also geniuses. They also built companies that changed the way we live our lives. They were visionary and innovative, but will we light a candle and shed a tear when their time to comes?

What made Steve Jobs so special is that he existed on a level above his company and its products. Though we respect what he built, we love what he stood for.

Related: 10 Things to Thank Steve Jobs For
Jobs was a rebel and a misfit and he imparted a sense of purpose and belonging for all the other rebels and misfits out there. Instead of brushing them aside or pointing at them for being weird, he celebrated them. He reminded us that the ones who see the world differently are the ones who change the world. In an instant, all those individual rebels and misfits had a leader. Someone who preached what they believed.
Over time, Apple and its products became symbols for a set of values and beliefs. Like a pirate flag hoisted above a ship to tell everyone who they were about to do battle with and what they could expect, Apple served as a symbol for the outcasts and nonconformists the world over.
Related: Remembering Apple's Steve Jobs
They popped their laptops open in airports to show people who they are. They stuck Apple stickers on their car bumpers to let everyone know what they believed. The defended Apple’s products as if defending their own family. And in a sense, that is exactly what the Apple community became -- a family of likeminded individuals who wake up every day to challenge the status quo.
For any entrepreneur who dreams of leading like Steve Jobs, here are three must-have characteristics:

Clarity of why you do what you do. To have this, you need a purpose, cause or belief that exists above and beyond the products or services you sell.
Discipline of how you do it. You must hold yourself and your people accountable to a defined set of guiding principles or values.
Consistency of what you do. Everything you say and do must prove what you believe. Every product that Apple made, all their marketing always communicated the same message: Think Different.

How did Steve Jobs influence you or your business? Let us know in the comments section?

coffee, not the cups

2011-10-07T16:13:00.000+05:30

just saw this in facebook. tot i will share. don't know the origin.

life is like a cup of coffee - author unknown

a group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. conversations soon turn into complaints about stress in work and life. offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal - some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite.

he told his guests to help themselves to the coffee. after everyone had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said

"if you noticed, all the nice looking, expensive cups have been taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. while it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of all your problems and stress.

be assured that the cups add no quality to the coffee. in most cases, it is just more expensive, and in some cases, even hides what we drink. what all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup. but you consciously went for the best cups... and then you begin eyeing each other's cups to see who had the best one.

now consider this... life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. they are just tools to hold and contain life. and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of life we live. sometimes, but concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee.

savor the coffee, not the cups!

the happiest people don't have the best of everything. they just make the best of everything".

- live simply (how ar??) -

- speak kindly -

- care deeply -

- love generously -

What happens to Apple after Jobs?

2011-10-06T17:13:00.002+05:30

Steve Jobs, Apple Inc's co-founder and former CEO who died Wednesday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, created a series of seminal electronics products, reinvented several industries, and built Apple into a $350 billion juggernaut.

Widely hailed as one of the greatest CEO's in history, Jobs handed the reins over to longtime operations chief Tim Cook in August, and many analysts believe the company is well-positioned for the future. But his death still leaves many questions.

Q: Can Apple succeed without Jobs?

Jobs was famous -- some say notorious -- for keeping an iron grip on every step of the product development process, from conception to execution. The Macintosh, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad all shine with his distinct design sensibility. Still, investors and consumers alike had grown accustomed in the past year to the idea of Apple without its visionary leader. Since January 2011, when Jobs went on his third medical and Cook again took over, most observers expected that Jobs would not return to full-time, active duty. Yet investors and customers remained confident in the company.

Apple has plenty of new products in the pipeline, and there should be few bumps in the short term. But it's not clear if Jobs' brilliance -- both as a product visionary and a super-salesman -- was ultimately transferable. The lukewarm reaction to Cook's first big product introduction on Tuesday could be seen as a warning sign.

Q: What will happen to Apple's share price?
Jobs' health had been an issue with investors for years (he was diagnosed in 2004), but that has not stopped Apple shares from marching higher. The stock moved little when Jobs announced in August that he was stepping down as CEO, and it moved little in after-hours trading after the announcement of his death Wednesday.
The biggest factors affecting the stock currently are the reliability of its iPhone and iPad product pipeline, and how well the company wards off smartphone challenger Google Inc and burgeoning rival Amazon.com Inc.

Q: What is Jobs' legacy?
Jobs is counted among the greatest CEOs in history, mentioned in the same breath as Henry Ford and other historical giants of corporate America. One of his most unique achievements was vaulting Apple to world leadership not just once, but twice. After co-founding the company with Steve Wozniak in 1976 and giving the world the Apple II and the Macintosh, he was famously pushed out in a clash with his hand-picked CEO, John Sculley. When Jobs returned in 1997 the floundering company's survival was in doubt, but he proceeded to radically transform an ageing computer-maker and take it in a new, and wildly successful, direction. There are few examples in any field of such a brilliant second act.
Along the way, Jobs in 1986 also bought Pixar, which was then little more than an experiment in digital animation technology. The company ultimately became a juggernaut of its own, and when it was acquired by Disney in 2006, Jobs became the largest shareholder of the entertainment giant. Again, there are few examples of a CEO turning a side project into a world-class innovator and business success story.
Jobs' few critics say the Macintosh was mostly borrowed technology, and beyond that all Apple gave the world was a sleek cellphone and an improved music-player. But many people -- in the tech world and beyond -- believe his impact on society and culture was monumental. He prompted millions to embrace digital technology, online media and mobile communications in ways they never did before.

Q: Will Apple change under Cook?
While both Cook and Jobs have earned reputations as hard-driving perfectionists, Jobs' successor is considered easier to work with. While Jobs was infamous for chewing out employees -- multiple stories have him firing workers in the elevator -- Cook is said to be better at forging consensus.
Whether and how Apple will transform under his stewardship is an open question. But Cook's success at Apple is due in large part to his sharing many of his boss's traits: a demand for perfection, an exhaustive attention to detail, and a hard-nosed attitude at the negotiating table.

In Cook's early days, insiders say, his boss occasionally had to step in to get tough media-content negotiations going again. But after years of wringing concessions from Asian production partners and three stints running the empire in Jobs' absence, Cook has a lot of credibility, and confidence in his leadership runs high.

Who else is important to the company's future success?

Design guru Jonathan Ives, marketing chief Phil Schiller, and mobile-software head Scott Forstall are three of the most important players. Schiller filled in for Jobs on several product launches, and with Cook being more low-key by nature, Schiller may gain a higher public profile.

Q: What will be Apple's "Next Big Thing"?

There's no shortage of speculation on what direction Cook will take Apple in, and whether Jobs had already laid the foundation for Apple's "Next Big Thing". For now, industry speculation centers around some sort of concerted attempt to shake up the living room, and TV. Apple has delivered results in the past by diving into fragmented, stagnating industries -- notably music and telephones -- and re-imagining them through technological innovation. Many experts say TV and its confusing array of options is ripe for an Apple-like "simple is beautiful" makeover.

Canadian man friended by thousands from 4,800 messages in a bottle

For the past 15 years, he's practiced old-fashioned social networking

A Canadian man has tossed more than 4,800 messages in a bottle into the Atlantic Ocean in the past 15 years — and received more than 3,100 replies.

Harold Hackett, who lives in Tignish, Prince Edward Island, the smallest province in Canada that hugs the Atlantic coastline, told his story to the BBC.

He uses discarded juice containers to hold his letters, dates each one and asks the finder of the bottle to respond.

And they have, in droves, in what the BBC describes as the "oldest form of social networking."
He started the hobby in May 1996 and since has received responses from Russia, Iceland, Holland, the U.K., Florida and even Africa and the Bahamas, wherever the wind and tide go.
"I never dreamt I'd get that many back that quick," Hackett said, emphasizing that the responders have become more than one-time pen pals.
"I usually get about a 150 Christmas cards, Christmas gifts, souvenirs," Hacket said in a video posted on the BBC website. "I just love doing it the old way. The reason I won't put my phone number on my letters is they'd all call me back, and I wouldn't get any letters."

"Harold the bottle man" has become somewhat of a living legend, according to The Guardian, a Prince Edward Island newspaper. The 58-year-old has a display of some of the letters he's received at the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum in the nearby tourist town of Cavendish.

Hackett said he sends as many as 200 bottles off every week. He doesn't think he'll ever stop.

Dog who saved owner on 9/11 named American Hero Dog

Roselle the guide dog navigated 1,463 steps after plane crashed into tower

Guide dog Roselle, clearly unphased by all the attention at a 2002 awards ceremony, was posthumously named American Hero Dog by the American Humane Association.

Computer sales manager Michael Hingson was at his desk on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center’s north tower on the morning of 9/11 when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the other side of the building, 18 floors above. And he lived to tell the tale because of his guide dog, Roselle.

The yellow lab calmly guided her blind charge 1,463 steps out of the building and, as debris fell and dust billowed, found a subway station and led them both underground to safety.

Roselle died in June at the age 13, but her heroism lives on. At a star-studded red carpet event in L.A. Saturday night the yellow lab was was honored as the American Hero Dog of the Year.

"She saved my life," Hingson wrote on the American Humane Association's site. More than 400,000 people cast votes for Roselle and 7 other finalists. But it was Hingson's moving description of her actions on 9/11 that helped her take the top dog honor.

Just as they got out of the building on 9/11, the south tower collapsed. "While everyone ran in panic, Roselle remained totally focused on her job," Hingson wrote. "While debris fell around us, and even hit us, Roselle stayed calm."

Hingson, the seven other finalists and their handlers were flown to Los Angeles to attend the ceremony at the Beverly Hills Hilton where they were joined by another four-legged celebrity, RIN TIN TIN Smith, a twelfth-in-line descendant of the original RIN TIN TIN. These four-legged celebrities were joined by a raft of two-legged ones including celebrity judges Betty White, Whoopi Goldberg, Kristin Chenoweth, Mark Hamill, Jillian Michaels, Susan Orlean (author of the new book, “RIN TIN TIN: The Life and the Legend”), TODAY's Jill Rappaport and Top Chef Fabio Viviani.

“Every day, across America, dogs protect, comfort, and give their unconditional friendship and affection to the ill, the infirm, the wounded veteran, and the frightened child,” Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of the American Humane Association, said of the awards. “It was time to recognize the contributions of man’s best friends and celebrate the heroic feats they have performed for us every day."
