Romance is rarely a serious business in my house, or most houses from what I’m hearing. As a matter of fact, it’s usually not considered a manly thing to get all gushy and sweetie-pie faced, if you know what I mean. With most couples, if he’s laughing, he’s happy. And, if he’s happy, you’re both happy, yes?

I know my husband does not want to sit around, sniffling like a baby, while we’re watching some tear-jerker. The idea of spending a romantic evening together doesn’t start with watching a movie that will tear our hearts out. If I came home with some miserable, sad movie, that happened to have a love story in it somewhere, the romantic evening planned for the two of us would come to a crushing halt. Ladies, I’ve listed four movies here that are definitely in the Don’t-Even-Think-About-Making-Him-Watch-That category.

1) The Notebook – Here’s your spoiler alert: they die together. Okay? He adores her, she doesn’t know who he is because she has alzheimers. They connect for a few shining moments, and then all hell breaks loose. Sob your eyes out and see where your nice cuddly evening ends up. Watch this with your girlfriends.

2) Closer – Exotic dancer falls for man who sees her hit by a car, and he rather likes her a great deal, but not quite as much as she likes him. Oh boy. Man meets another beautiful woman, out goes a very sad stripper, and woman number two gets married to someone else. That doesn’t stop the man and woman from “celebrating their love” now and again, so it just gets depressing for the average couple who just wants to have a nice date night, you know?

3) A Walk To Remember – Ladies, rent this to watch with your girlfriends and a couple dozen bottles of wine. Your man will not appreciate the tender moments or the tragic event that sparks a whole lot of sad stuff. Is there redemption at the end? Who cares when you’re trying to cuddle up with your man! Look for some laughs elsewhere.

4) The Bridges Of Madison County – Oh no! You did not just do that! This is a no-brainer, ladies. Watch it by yourself or with some lady friends and several buckets of wine, then start yelling at the television screen “No-o-o-o! Please! You idiot! That’s Clint Eastwood, for God’s sake! Look at him! He’s so cool!” Just keep this movie away from your men if you ever want to be “happy” again, you know what I mean.

Yes, your man loves you and yes he will choke up at some sentimental things, but when it comes to movie-time and play-time, he needs a couple belly laughs, ladies. Let’s see what’s out there that has a comfortable combination of romance and laughs. You CAN have both, but you just have to temper the romance a bit, and avoid the sorrow! Here’s a short list of movies that always bring smiles to my man, and me! Here are four Just-Sit-Back-Laugh-And-Enjoy movies.

1) Dan In Real Life – Funny movies that you can relate to are always a plus. Steve Carell seems like he could be your neighbor, or even yourself. He’s, well, real. He plays a widower, which although is sad, is not the focus of the movie. After some time of being alone and lonely, he meets a wonderful woman, quite by accident, while he’s on his way to a big family reunion. Sparks ignite, he’s a happy man. Until he meets his brother’s girlfriend. Oops… same woman. They keep it on the q.t., but of course things have to go awry eventually. Great fights, lots of laughs, some family issues, good characters, and the beautiful Juliette Binoche bring this movie all together. Nice way to spend a night alone with your man. Good laughs, good love.

2) The Holiday – The premise is that two lovely women, Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, do a Holiday house switch to get the heck away from love-gone-wrong. Learning to live in totally different worlds, they start to fall into all sorts of situations, which of course involve romance. Jude Law and Jack Black are great love-interests, that provide lots of smiles and enough sexy co-mingling to keep your man’s interest. You are even treated to a Hollywood star played by Eli Wallach, who has been forgotten, but gets reacquainted with the world with the help of Kate Winslet. This storyline is very touching, but also funny. The characters will make you laugh and will tug at your heartstrings a bit. Your man should be feeling all warm and cozy after this movie!

3) Hitch – Matchmaker Will Smith is good at what he does. He gets men past the first date by teaching them all the right moves and lines. His advice isn’t working so well on himself, however, when he falls for Eva Mendes, a woman who’s on to him and his moves. The dating stories and Smith’s struggle with his own dating techniques have lots of funny storylines and even some sweet tales. Just to watch Smith so smooth and confident as a “date coordinator” totally fall on his face in his own dating world makes for lots of laughs. Your man will enjoy the characters and the clever little plot, and then he’ll get interested in the romance going on.

4) Click – Although this movie has a couple moments of darkness, the characters, played by Adam Sandler and the beautiful Kate Beckinsale, really outshine the few weighty moments. Hey, it’s about life in a marriage, there’s got to be SOME weighty moments! Adam Sandler is given a remote control by none other than Christopher Walken, who’s character is incredibly outrageous. We soon learn that the “clicker” controls life. Now wouldn’t that be handy, you say. If you’re like most people trying to manage a family-life, you know how sometimes you would really like to fast-forward, rewind, pause, or mute the scene going on around you. Good message-movie, but loaded with laughs. You and your man will truly appreciate the laughs you can share watching this movie family go through many of the same things we all go through, and then some!

Romance and laughter go together. Life is no bed of roses, so when you can share a smile with the man you love, it sure sets the stage for some romantic warm and cozy moments. These are the moments to create tonight with a movie your man will love!

More than likely you are reading this article on an LCD or plasma monitor. These monitors are much less bulky than the older monitors that took up half of a normal sized desk. Most of these monitors have a much clearer picture than the older monitors did. If you want to take the next step, then you will want to switch to LED monitors.

The difference between an LCD monitor and an LED monitor is with the source of the back light. The older LCD monitors are back lit with florescent tubes. These tubes only have a lifetime of three to four years before they begin to dim. Although it may seem that the smart thing to do to correct this problem would have been to allow the consumer to change the florescent tubes and keep the same monitor, but this option has not been offered by manufacturers. Instead, users are left with no alternative other than to replace their monitors. Thus, monitors become a large source of electronic waste.

A second disadvantage of the LCD monitors is that they are more bulky and heavy than the LED monitors. The florescent tubes require this additional thickness. LED monitors can be made quite thin, especially those that are edge lit monitors. These are the monitors that have been made possible by the technology developed for ultra thin laptops.

The florescent tubes in LCD monitors do not produce a full range of color of light. Therefore, there will be some of the LCD crystals that do not appear as bright when certain colors are lit compared to others. This may cause the image to appear to be blurry or less clear than the same image on an LED monitor.

In addition, you will save energy with these newer monitors. While the amount may seem insignificant for a desk top computer, for a notebook or laptop computer less energy consumption means longer battery life.

Some users complain that the LED monitors are not evenly lit. This may be more of a matter of their eyes adjusting to using a new type of screen. Because the LED lights are placed around the edge of the display, the center may not be as bright, however this should not affect the overall use of the screen.

Still other users find LED screens to be too bright for their applications. Since the brightness can cause eyestrain after continued use, users are advised to find monitors that allow for brightness control. By dimming the monitor, users may reduce the amount of eyestrain they experience.

Even with these two minor complaints, the LED monitor is one of the best monitors available today. The monitors are super thin and they have the best clarity available in any monitor. They also last longer than LCD monitors that have the florescent tubes for back lighting.

Choosing a monitor with long life is a great choice for the environment. Whilst many people have simply given in to purchasing a new monitor every time they buy a new home or office computer, monitors should not have to be updated as often as the CPU. Choosing an LED monitor gives you the best chance of having a quality monitor that will last as long or longer than your current computer.

Movie reviews follow this paragraph. Here are some ways to find movie download sites. You can try to search a term like “Music Videos To Download”, if you want some more, use “DVD Rental Services” and “Unlimited DVD Rentals”.

Darby O’Gill and the Little People: Momentous Disney fantasy in reference to an Irish caretaker (Sharpe) who tells so many unbelievable stories that no one believes him while he affirms he’s befriended the Baron of Leprechauns. This film is a real pleasure, with some beaming visual effects. Cast includes Albert Sharpe, Janet Munro, Sean Connery, Jimmy O’Dea, Kieron Moore, and Estelle Winwood. (90 minutes, 1959)

The Eiger Sanction: Pseudo James Bond misfire, often accidentally ludicrous. Exhilarating mountain climbing scenes don?t make up for films numerous defects and ungodly magnitude. Jack Cassidy as gay detective gives the only artistic performing. Cast includes Clint Eastwood, George Kennedy, Vonetta McGee, Jack Cassidy, Thayer David, Heidi Bruhl, Reiner Schoene, and Brenda Venus. (128 minutes, 1975)

The Great Moment: This perplexing biography of an anesthesia pioneer wavers from comedy to drama. The film is uselessly filled with aggravating flashbacks. Cast includes Joel McCrea, Harry Carey, William Demarest, Franklin Pangborn, Gmdy Sullon, and Louis Jean Heydt. (83 minutes, 1944)

The Age of Innocence: In 1870s NY, well-bred youthful guy (Day-Lewis), who plans to wed well bred youthful female (Ryder), is infatuated by infamous beauty (Pfeiffer) with a notorious background and a self sufficient soul. Sumptuous adaptation of Edith Wharton’s Pulitzer Prize novel in reference to censored sentiments in a close minded world. Cast includes Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, Winona Ryder, Richard E. Grant, Alec McCowen, Geraldine Chaplin, Mary Beth Hurt, Miriam Margolyes, Sian Phillips, Michael Gough, Alexis Smith, Norman Lloyd, Jonathan Pryce, Robert Sean Leonard, and Carolyn Farina depicted by Joanne Woodward. (133 minutes, 1993)

Just for Fun: A group of adolescents develop their own partisan group to climb the pop polls completes this forgettable rock musical trifle. Cast includes Mark Wynter, Cherry Roland, Richard Vernon, Reginald Beckwith, John Wood, Bobby Vee, The Crickets, Freddie Cannon, Johnny Tillotson, Ketty Lester, and The Tremeloes. (85 minutes, 1963)

Daniel: A phenomenal adaptation of E. L. Doctorow’s The Novel of Daniel, about Julius and Ethel Rosenberg who encounter discrimination due to their heritage in order learn to handle their own lives in the difficult 1960s. Not without its imperfections, however overall a seductive and incredibly well-made film. Cast includes Timothy Hullon, Mandy Patinkin, Lindsay Crouse, Edward Asner, Ellen Barkin, Julie Bovasso, Tovah Feldshuh, Joseph Leon, Amanda Plummer, and John Rubinstein. (130 minutes, 1983)

Down to You: Prinze and Stiles futilely try to buddy us up by talking straight away into the camcorder, clarifying how their once idyllic college romance went bust (albeit not as bust as the film). In some way, this film manages to find room for subplots in reference to a Television show and a friend who has a try as an adult-film entrepreneur with a sort of bohemian knowledgeable porn actress. Cast includes Freddie Prinze, Jr., Julia Stiles, Shawn Hatosy, Selma Blair, Zak Orth, Ashton Kutcher, Rosario Dawson, Henry Winkler, and Lucie Amaz. (91 minutes, 2000)

The Fourth Protocol: An excellent thriller adjusted by Frederick Forsyth from his most popular novel. Caine plays a British agent who’s designated to foil a Russian plot that could obliterate relationships between the U.S. and England by setting off an atomic bomb near an American air base in the U.K. Brosnan does well as a Russian representative. Cast includes Michael Caine, Pierce Bronson, Joanna Cassidy, Ned Beatty, Betsy Brantley, Peter Cartwright, David Conville, Matt Frewer, Ray McAnally, and Ian Richardson. (119 minutes, 1987)

The Dinner Game: Humorous charade in regards to a self centered publisher who partakes in a monthly custom with his buddies to ask the stupidest individual they could find to supper. Lhermitte has discovered a doozy, a civil servant (Villeret) who interferes in his own life in incredible ways. The work is comically ludicrous without being nasty. Cast includes Thierry Lhermitte, Jacques Villeret, Francis Huster, Daniel Prevost, Alexandra Vandernoot, and Catherine Frot. (81 minutes, 1998)

Did you find something good to see? Don’t forget, search with terms like “DVD Movie Online Rentals” and “Movies Download” to find download sites. Another good term might be “Full Movies Online”.

We might wonder why people who do have other options would still choose to do something they knew was against the law. Merah Bawang Putih Movie This is where online movie downloads have come in to bridge the gaps in ticket sales. Most newer computers come set up with all those options already built in.

There are many different types of kick drum samples available for music producers today. Beat making is such an involved activity that having to use the same samples over and over can really kill your creativity. This is especially true with kick drum sounds as these are an elemental ingredient to just about every rhythm and blues, hip hop, rap, pop and rock song on the charts and underground today.

A kick drum sample has a few phases, the first being the start or attack. If the attack is very strong, you will be able to hear the introduction of the kick through many other instruments and sound layers, and if it is not that strong, you will still feel it but not be made aware to its presence immediately every time. Rap music producers (and others, too) often use compressor tools to really spike up the start of kick and snare drums, and this can be a powerful choice for drum-centric tracks.

The sustained kick, which pertains to the second phase of the audio sample, is the sound that stays with you the longest, much more memorable than the initial attack. If you have a great attack, you can afford to have a weak mid-sound (or sustained sound), because we have heard that the kick is there, but it can’t be both at the same time; if the attack is weak and there is no sustained sound, you don’t have a kick, you have a melon.

Adjusting the volume of a kick is extremely simple on both Macintosh computers and PCs, and also with hardware samplers and drum machines. Most tools have envelopes and volume filters, and if your equipment or software does not permit this (although this is very unlikely in this day and age) then there are free tools available all over the net for you to use and download. Most of them will have unlimited functionality, so you can get started and import them right away.

If you do not wish to use any device or plug-in inside your host or hardware unit, you can certainly adjust the volume in any one of the editors (both free and paid-for versions) that are available. Most already have the functionality or offer different plug-ins to help you crop and adjust volume and fading. The free programs like Audacity are great and even match the professional edition programs in many departments.

Different programs and libraries contain different drum samples for your personal and professional use. If you’re serious about audio and music production, then getting a varied selection is your best bet. Combine the samples contained in programs like FL Studio with others you can get off the internet and in different programs, and you will soon have your own choice of go-to samples that you have developed yourself.

When purchasing women’s clothing, skimping on quality will be like flirting with disaster. Clothes, and particularly those that are meant for women, which are of inferior quality, will not last long and will not look good and will end up being a waste of time, money and effort.

The extra money spent on buying good quality female clothes will actually work out to be cheaper in the long run as you will buy fewer clothes which will last longer and make you looking good as well.

However, before purchasing good quality women’s clothing it is necessary to know about the typical characteristics that help to distinguish good quality item of clothing from cheap clothes. In this regard, the first thing that you will need to do is to look at the stitching. Good quality clothes will have stitching that is very straight on each inch of the garment you will find a minimum of ten stitches.

Next, you have to inspect the belt for quality and construction. A belt that looks cheap and thin and perhaps even flimsy alludes to the fact that it is of inferior quality and so must be disregarded. Next, you have to turn your attention to inspecting the zipper which must be one that blends in well with the color of the item of clothing and it should not look too obvious either.

By moving the zipper in the up as well as down direction you can see whether it works smoothly or is there any unevenness of movement. If there is unevenness then the zip is not of good quality and you can ignore that particular item of clothing.

The fabric from which the clothes are made is also a very important issue and to determine whether the clothes you plan on buying have flawed fabrics you need to hold the clothes up to the light. This will help you see where the flaws, if any, lie. Also, you must be able to distinguish a good fabric from a less than acceptable quality fabric and for this you should be able to judge the quality by feeling the fabric.

One way to get an idea how a good fabric feels is to visit an expensive boutique where you can feel the expensive clothes and so a form an opinion about how the high end fabrics feel. Next, you should visit a cheap store and do the same there. In a short time you will soon be able to identify the good from the bad fabrics.

With all these tips in mind you can safely go out and shop for women’s clothing secure in the knowledge that you know just what characteristics help in distinguishing poor quality items of female clothing from those that are of high quality.

In order to save money buying Women’s clothing and fashion Jewelry, try http://www.accessoriesmagickingdom.com and your bank account will thank you!

As is to be expected, there are many different astral projection techniques which people can use in order to help them astral project. Of course, because all people are different, it only stands to reason that while a certain technique may work for one person, it may not work for everybody. Strangely enough, most people who experience difficulty, do so because they are unable to relax sufficiently, rather than because of the techniques not working.

One thing you need to bear in mind right from the very beginning, is that total relaxation is essential, irrespective of which technique you choose to use. Unfortunately, because there are still many misconceptions regarding astral projection, many newcomers experience a certain degree of fear and this in itself prevents them from being able to relax. Contrary to what you may have heard, one cannot be harmed and neither can you die from astral projection. In fact, the Canterbury institute even went as far as doing some research involving 2,000 people, in order to squash such fears.

All the people who took part in the research had participated in astral projection and institute determined that not one of those people were harmed in any way after having followed the various techniques. Furthermore, having followed the 2,000 people for no less than three years, the institute also established the fact that nobody reported any problems.

So, now that we’ve managed to brush aside any fears related to astral projection, let’s take a look at some effective astral projection techniques which are relatively easy and which have helped scores of people. The first technique, known as the ‘Monroe Technique’ consists of seven basic steps.

* Relaxing your mind and body is essential. There are of course numerous relaxation techniques which one can use, but the easiest and the most popular one involves deep breathing and the relaxing of your muscles. This requires you to inhale and exhale deeply and also to tense and release your muscles one at a time starting at your toes.

* Reaching a hypnotic state. Essentially you need to reach a point where your mind and body is just on the verge of going to sleep, although of course you don’t want to actually fall asleep. This can be achieved by using the gazing method. Simply lie on your bed and begin staring at something until such time that your eyes close and yet you’re still able to see the object.

* You will then need to deepen the state of mind you’re in once you reach the point where you can see the object even when your eyes are closed. At this point it may be possible to see different light patterns and you may even notice that the room appears to be immersed in a purplish light. There is no need for you to pay any attention to the purplish light or the light patterns, but instead, you’ll know you’ve entered a deeper state once you stop seeing the lights. Furthermore, once you reach this point you’ll be so relaxed, you won’t even be aware of your physical body anymore.

* This next step which revolves around a state of vibration is extremely important according to Monroe. Also, most people who are involved with the actual projection to indicate that these vibrations become noticeable in the early stages of projection. In fact, it is said that these vibrations signal the time when your astral body begins to separate from your physical body. This is a perfectly normal phenomenon and as such, there is no reason for concern.

* Controlling your state of vibration. You can control the vibrations in such a way that they move through your body. By using your mind you can direct these vibrations so that you can feel them all over as if there were waves washing over you. However, it will require a certain amount of practice before you are able to bring on these waves at will. Once you can create these ways at will, you’re ready to leave your body.

* It is undeniable that the key to successful astral projection and astral travel lies in having control, in that it’s your mind which has the power. In fact, Monroe actually recommends that you practice partial separation in order to strengthen your level control. While maintaining focus on the concept of leaving your physical body, one should first only allow a hand or foot to separate. When you can do this you should go ahead and attempt to stretch them towards an object nearby, whether you choose the wall, the ceiling, or even a random item in the room. If you manage to do this successfully then you should allow your hand or foot to return to your physical body. Now go ahead and begin slowing down the vibrations in order to bring your session to an end.

* In this last step you will get to separate from your physical body. You can simply follow all the steps already mentioned but this time, instead of only allowing your hand or foot to leave the physical body, you will allow total separation. Apart from a minor adjustment, this is virtually identical to step six. In this case you need to imagine that your body is weightless or that it is made up of feathers and that they are being blown around in the wind. As your astral body starts leaving your physical body you should begin to feel as though you are flying or perhaps floating.

Other methods and techniques include the Anchor Technique, the Gazing Method, and the Rope Technique. Ultimately, one should be willing to try the various techniques in order to establish which one works best for you, because you can be rest assured that everyone can find a technique which works for them.

What you do need to bear in mind however, is that not everyone can astral project immediately simply by using one of the techniques mentioned above, because after all, it does take practice.

Fortunately for those who are impatient, rapid advancements in sound technology have resulted in various audio tools becoming available. One such tool makes use of sound waves of different frequencies, known as ‘binaural beats’, in order to synchronize the two hemispheres of the brain. This in turn allows one to enter into a meditative state almost instantaneously, and of course this is the ideal state of mind for astral projection.

Those looking for further assistance with regards to relaxation can also make use of hypnosis recordings which have been created specifically for the purpose of astral projection. These recordings work by targeting the subconscious mind in order to reinforce the idea that it’s perfectly acceptable for you to leave your physical body.

One thing you can be sure of; astral projection is a life change inexperience, and the beauty of it is, anyone can do it, especially if you use some of the techniques mentioned.

Sports book futures bets are an increasing popular and potentially profitable way to wager on the outcome of a full season. There’s a few common mistakes that novice players make that can be easily avoided by paying attention to the following:

Don’t bet at the first place you look: In other words, shop around for the best price. This is essential to all aspects of sports betting, but especially important with futures wagers. You’ll find more disparity between prices from book to book on futures than any other betting proposition. From a theoretical standpoint, a little work can yield much better value. From a practical standpoint, that means a higher payout should you win. The reason for this is that individual sportsbooks’ aren’t as worried about what the other guys are doing as they are with most other bets. Once the futures “market” is set books move the lines almost exclusively on their own financial position. The market simply doesn’t respond as quickly to futures wagers as it does to individual game lines so it is essential to do the extra work to get the best price on your proposition.

In a competitive field, don’t obsess with picking the winner: This may sound like a strange concept, but once you understand the theory behind it it makes perfect sense. In a large field–the NCAA basketball tournament is a perfect example–the top few favorites are invariably priced at odds that are less than the ‘true odds’ of them winning. On the other hand, there are always teams that fly ‘under the radar’ available at higher prices that present a betting overlay.

In more theoretical terms, the ‘true odds’ of a Duke or similar top team winning the tournament are almost always higher than the price offered. Think of it this way–say we’re betting Duke to win the national title at 2/1. This means that the Blue Devils would have to win more than 33% of the time to break even. So lets say, for the sake of argument, that we could play the tournament over 100 times. Would Duke come out on top more than 33 of these times? If not, they represent a poor value. Let’s say that they win 30 of 100 times. This means that any price under +333 or thereabouts is a poor wagering value.

In a less competitive field, there can be instances where even a big favorite is a good value. For example, lets say a book was to take action on a bikini contest between a Victoria’s Secret supermodel and three members of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The model would essentially be a 100% probability to win the contest, meaning that even a high chalk price would be a good value. Risking a lot of money to win a little is a tough thing to justify, however, even if the math makes sense.

Don’t go for the big killing: Sports wagering is not a good arena in which to make a ‘big killing’. It may happen from time to time, but it is extremely rare. A perennial doormat can come out of nowhere to win a championship at a big price, but the fact that it happens from time to time doesn’t make it a good value. If you’re a recreational player and want to throw a few dollars at a big long shot, no real harm. If you aspire to any degree of seriousness as a sports better, however, you need to maintain your discipline and commitment to value at all times. If you want to hit a big jackpot play the lottery or the slot machines, but don’t try to do it in a sports betting paradigm.

Wagering value is just as important at the bottom of the barrel as it is at the top. Just because you’re getting a huge potential payback on a big dog doesn’t make it a good value. Make sure that the payback you’re getting presents an overlay situation–even on a huge underdog.

Don’t bet one-sided futures or propositions: Though many of these are not futures per se, a lot of sportsbooks offer silly propositions on nonsport events as a way to get publicity, or just to be funny. Its important to make a distinction between this type of silly bet and more realistic nonsport propositions which frequently present good wagering value. Im talking the really outlandish stuff here. Not too long ago, a sportsbook posted a line on Martians landing on earth and painting the White House red by the end of the year. The “YES” was +2500 or thereabouts, which is far from reflective of the “true odds” of this unlikely event. Even if you’re the type that collects classic Art Bell shows on tape and believes in UFOs you wouldn’t place the probability of this happening at more than a fraction of a percent. The book only offered the “YES” side of the proposition, meaning that you couldn’t lay even a huge price on the more likely outcome. Another book had a futures offering for what would happen first with Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. All of the options were very unlikely–Ashton and Bruce fighting on PPV and my favorite–and the longest odds–Ashton, Bruce and Demi hopping in bed together and releasing a porno video documenting the event. You’d receive a sizable payback if any of the events ever transpired, but I’m not exactly sure how to compute the “true odds” on “when pigs fly.

With so many ways to buy DVDs and so many different DVDs to choose from, it should be hard to find one of your favorites. There are many places you can rent DVDs and its like getting to try it before you buy it.

There are so many places on line that you can buy DVDs for cheap prices. There are used DVDs and new DVDs they range from different prices depending on if the movie is new, old or even just a rare movie.

You can also buy DVDs directly from department stores and even some gas stations. Although gas stations usually charge a pretty high price typically. I prefer to buy DVDs used because you can get them in brand new shape.

You can get DVDs at places that rent movies, these places will sell pre-viewed DVDs to you. Pre-view DVDs are the ones that they have already rented out and they have taken a few of them off the shelves to make room for other new releases, so they sell the ones they take off the shelves.

In order to watch a DVD you have to have a DVD player, but there are also some game systems that allow you to play the DVDs on them as well, but not all game systems are like this. DVDs have come a long way since they first came out with movies and soon DVDs will be obsolete.

If you choose to get a DVD make sure it has very minimal scratches on it and that you have already seen that movie because you don’t want to get something that you don’t enjoy or like. Some people choose to burn their own DVDs offline and this sometimes still costs to buy and download the DVD.

Before you buy DVD and BluRAy online, make sure you check DVDfort.com to hunt for Ebay’s hidden treasures just like the CSI in Bluray which at times offered for less than $5

With more people investigating ways to support their immune system, and perhaps go so far as to actually prevent infection from influenza viruses (Swine flu, for example), a primer on essential oils and infectious illness is in order. There are several natural medicines available which have solid backing in flu prevention: zinc lozenges and elderberry extract are two very popular items. Though little attention has been given to the use of essential oils for this purpose. It is the position of many leading aroma-medicine practitioners that the use of oils for the treatment and prevention of infectious illness is the area of medicine where these products will be of greatest help to mankind. AND, there is a growing body of scientific evidence revealing true antiviral and immunostimulating effects of essential oils. Here’s a look at the research, and some easy-to-use recipes and techniques one can use to protect the immunity of themselves and their families.

Essential Oils’ Antiviral Activity: The Research

In the last few years, more laboratory research has been performed revealing the ability of essential oils to actually destroy viruses. In addition, a limited number of papers have been presented noted that oils alter our cells in such a way as to prevent viruses moving between cells, thereby preventing the spread of infection. All the data referred to in this paper is available online through the Pub Med database, free of charge. To see these yourself, simply search for Pub Med, then enter terms such as “antiviral essential oil”, “essential oil virus”, “essential oil immune” and the like. This is an excellent way to further motivate yourself to get the most from aromatherapy oil use.

Interpreting the Data: Many Oils vs. Many Viruses

With more than one hundred published research papers on the subject, a summary is in order. What scientists are finding is that many of the essential oils commonly in use today have antiviral properties. Whether an oil is effective against a particular virus depends upon the natural chemical makeup of the oil and the structure of the virus being studied. The data, without a doubt, is very encouraging. One study performed in Germany this year concluded with the note that Tea Tree was able to “reduce viral infectivity by greater than 96 percent”. The same study went on to clarify that the whole, natural oil, rather than any single chemical synthetically extracted, was up to TEN TIMES more effective as an antiviral agent. The precise reason for this is not known — it is clear that some of the most chemically complex oils exhibit the greatest antiviral effects, and perhaps this mixture of nature’s chemicals attacks the virus AND supports immune function is several ways at once.

One Pandemic Virus and The Oil of Laurel Leaf

Many of the studies utilize the Herpes Simplex Virus as a “test subject”, because of the widespread prevalence of infection, along with the relative ease of testing. However, if one digs into the data, many papers present information relevant in in influenza pandemic. SARS ‘Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome’ is caused by the highly infectious SARS-CoV virus that made world-wide news in 2003. A study in the March 2008 Journal of Chemical Biodiversity noted Bay Laurel essential oil to have significant antiviral action against this virus. They’d also noted the natural constituents of this oil, which are also found in a great many other essential oils. This is why you’ll see MANY essential oils noted as antivirals — because many oils share similar natural chemical constituents. So while this next oil is not readily available, the data is very interesting. In 2005, Chinese researchers evaluated the anti-influenza potential of the essential oil from a root used in Chinese medicine, concluding: “In vivo…it prevented influenza virus-induced deaths in a dose-dependent manner”. And the list of oil/virus combinations goes on and on. But this begs the question: how do we derive a formula for Swine Flu prevention?

Selecting Oils For Daily Flu Protection

It is this sharing of natural compounds that supports the literature’s assertion that there are a great many oils in use today that are antiviral — one reason you’ll typically see several oils, not just one, in an antiviral formula. But which oils to use for your needs? This is where the long-time historical practice of aroma-medicine therapists helps us choose. The antiviral and immune-supportive essential oils have been categorized by the symptoms the infection produces. The Cineol-containing oils, like Eucalyptus and Ravensara are chosen where the bronchial system is affected. Melissa and Tea Tree are most commonly used for viruses infecting the skin — though their antiviral action for other parts of the body should not be ignored, because their synergistic effects with other oils creates a formula with a complex mixture of natural chemicals — similar in respect to the balance found in the single oil Bay Laurel. Other oils are highly regarded for their positive effect on the immune system overall: Frankincense is considered by some to be the most potent immunostimulant, and Melissa has this property as well.

A short list of essential oils that one can select from to support immunity against influenza infection includes the following: Melissa (having significant anti-HSV activity, it is also thought to be a potent immunostimulant — boosting the ability of our immune defense), Tea Tree (a very broad spectrum antiviral/antimicrobial), Rosalina (also known as Lavender Tea Tree, with a natural chemical profile containing constituents of both these oils), Lavender (commonly used as an anti-stress agent — which itself supports immune system function — and also having antiviral action), Bay Laurel (Laurel Leaf, reported effective against SARS-CoV), Ravensara aromatica, Eucalyptus Radiata (one of many Eucalyptus species, this one is most often noted as “antiviral”), Frankincense (considered by some the most effective immunostimulant oil available), Thyme, and Hyssop decumbens (a highly regarded antiviral, with a highly complex natural chemistry makeup).

Influenza Prevention Recipes

An example blend including these oils: 2 parts Melissa, 1 part Thyme (Thujanol, Geraniol or Linalool), 4 parts Lavender, 3 parts Ravensara, 4 parts Eucalyptus Radiata (Narrow Leaf), 3 parts Hyssop, 6 parts Rosalina (Melaluca ericifolia) and 3 parts Bay Laurel. A “part” can be anything — a milliliter, a drop, an ounce — just as long as they’re consistently the same volume. For children between 2 and 13, use 4 parts Lavender, 3 parts Rosalina, 1 part Ravensara, 1 part Eucalyptus and 3 parts Bay Laurel. This recipe is excellent as a lower-cost version for adults as well — and has been made more gentle for the young ones (consult Valerie Worwood’s “Aromatherapy for the Healthy Child” for more on using essential oils with kids).

Diffusing Your Oils for Best Results

The best way to use these oils is through diffusion, which is essentially “rapid evaporation”. A nebulizing aromatherapy diffuser will make a fine mist of essential oil which cleanly evaporates in your surroundings. This method allows a low concentration of the oils to be inhaled regularly. The effect is to actually disinfect the air in your home, as well as getting the oils into one’s lungs and bloodstream in small amounts. A feature of oils’ activity is that they are reported to reduce the ability of viruses to penetrate cell walls, so the lungs and sinuses become protected just by breathing the oil-infused air. Be careful not to overdo it though — the aroma should never be overwhelming or irritating, and your body will tell you if you’ve had enough. The oils do their immune-supportive job in subtle ways, which require only the smallest amounts of oil. The casual inhalation of the oils also gets them into circulation throughout the bloodstream, penetrating all the organ systems, and most importantly the lymph system — home to our immune function. A cold air nebulizing diffuser (as opposed to an ‘ultrasonic’, which dilutes the oils with water) would ideally be run 5-10 minutes every hour for this purpose.

Lymphs, Baths and Foot Rubs, Oh My!

Immune-protection topical oil blends can be easily mixed, putting the essential oil formula in a carrier oil such as Coconut or Jojoba. This concoction can then be massaged daily into the feet (a highly receptive area of the body) or into regions of lymph nodes: the neck, armpits and sternum. Adding the essential oils to a carrier at a 5 to 10% concentration is suitable (10% would be 1 part essential oil mixture to 9 parts carrier oil). If you’d like to use a topical formula for children, use the “children’s” recipe above, and lower the concentration in the carrier oil to 1% for ages 2-4, 2% for 5-7, 3% for 8-12 (a 1% concentration is 8 drops total essential oils in each fluid ounce of carrier, 2% is 16 drops per ounce, etc). Soaking in a bath with oils added to the water is also an excellent way to gain their benefits — for young kids, add 2 drops essential oil to a teaspoon of ANY carrier oil (olive oil from the kitchen will do fine), then swirl this into the bath once it’s been drawn. 4 drops essential oil blend for older children, and 6 drops for adults.

The Future of Aromatherapy: Aroma Medicine

While we cannot be certain of the direct effects of essential oils for our needs, it appears to the lay practitioner that the evidence supporting their use is just and solid as for any other natural medicine choice. Recall that the world’s leading aromatherapists suggest that it is in the prevention and treatment of infectious illness that essential oils will find their place in our medical systems. Given the data that so many essential oils offer antiviral activity against a variety of viruses, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that they will be effective as Swine flu prevention. And with their relative ease of use, and ready availability, there’s little reason not to see what they may have to offer for you and your family.
