We’ve also brightened homes with over 80 lamps—and so much more.
Our mission has always been to furnish 100 homes a year. Some years, we’ve reached that goal. But this year, thanks to incredible community support and a dedicated team, we’re on track to serve over 125 families. It’s a milestone that reflects more than numbers—it’s about restoring dignity, comfort, and a sense of peace to those starting over.

As the furniture was being brought into Chrisa’s apartment, the look of joy and relief on her face reminded us why Furnishing Hope exists. After years of unimaginable loss and instability, this moment marked a fresh start.

Chrisa’s journey has been anything but easy. In 2021, her eldest daughter, Trinity, was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 Disorder. Strong, bright, and full of promise, Trinity faced her challenges head-on. But in October 2022, Chrisa’s world changed forever. Trinity died after unknowingly taking a counterfeit pill laced with fentanyl—an unspeakable tragedy that shattered their family and left a hole that can never be filled.

The grief was overwhelming, especially for Chrisa’s youngest daughter, Paz, who lost not only her big sister but her best friend. In the wake of that loss, Chrisa’s life spiraled—she fell into depression, lost her home, and had to make the heartbreaking decision to move in with her abusive father for shelter. Even then, safety was fleeting. By the end of 2024, Chrisa and Paz were homeless, living in a motel and doing everything possible to keep some stability in their lives.

But Chrisa is a mother of incredible strength. With time, therapy, and persistence, she found work again and never gave up on finding a home. Eventually, a landlord gave her a chance—not based on credit, but on character—and she finally had a place to call her own.

Still, that apartment was empty. No beds, no table, no warmth. That’s where Furnishing Hope came in.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, Chrisa and Paz now have a fully furnished home—a real home—a soft place to land after a hard day, a dining table to share meals at, and cozy beds to dream in. Even their dog seemed to know—tail wagging, exploring the space with delight—that this was the beginning of something better.

Chrisa told us that for the first time since losing Trinity, she finally has the space to grieve, not just survive. That’s what home should offer: safety, dignity, and healing.

Stories like Chrisa’s are why we keep showing up. Every family we furnish is more than just a delivery—they are reminders that hope can be restored even in the darkest of times.

Thank you to everyone who makes moments like this possible. Together, we are helping families write new chapters filled with comfort, connection, and love.

While in the Marines, Lance Corporal Bonet served as a generator mechanic, while also providing security for convoys and bases where they were stationed in Iraq. Additionally, he was part of a group of Marines that was in charge of emptying and destroying Saddam Hussein’s ammunition bunkers. While on these convoys and providing security, Lance Corporal Bonet endured multiple attacks, roadside bombs and being shot at daily from mortar fire. He suffers from tinnitus and PTSD due to these events during his service.

Originally from New York, Lance Corporal Bonet settled in California after his service, and has run over 100 races and marathons as therapy and to cope with his PTSD.

What does it mean to Lance Corporal Bonet and his family to have a home furnished by Furnishing Hope? He explains, “ I spend all my time at home, and it would mean a lot because we just moved into our first home and we used all our savings for closing costs and to move. This opportunity will greatly help make our home complete.”

It was our honor and privilege to furnish this home for Lance Corporal Bonet, his wife, and two beautiful daughters. We wish this family all the best, health, and happiness in their home.

He served in various roles as an infantry rifleman, team lead and squad leader. Sergeant Nguyen deployed twice to Iraq, once to Afghanistan, and once to the South East, Asia region. While taking indirect fire from rockets and mortars, in Afghanistan Sgt Nguyen suffered a severe concussion and sustained a traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress. Even after his injury, Sgt Nguyen still had aspiration to do a 3rd reenlistment as a combat instructor. As his symptoms became worse, he was reassigned to Camp Pendleton and the Naval Medical Center San Diego for treatment.

When asked what it meant to have a furnished home Sgt Nguyen said, “I lost my service dog of 6 years that I was paired up with when I was at the Wounded Warrior Battalion in Camp Pendleton. It added a lot of increased stress and anxiety before I got into this condo. I moved into my new condo about 3 weeks ago and was not at place financially to furnish my place. Without any furniture, it felt a bit empty and not a real home. I am hopeful to get back on my feet again once I get everything situated with my home, eventually get another service dog, go back to school, and then get back to working again. Having my home furnished by Furnishing Hope meant the world to me. It’s the first step of me getting back on my feet.”

Furnishing Hope, a non-profit organization based in Orange County, CA announces the launch of their November 2020 Campaign – 50 Home in 50 Days, as a way to help 50 families find sanctuary before the end of the year.

Funded from a combination of in-kind donations from national brands, wholesale manufacturers and with the support of community volunteers. Furnishing Hope helps to provide a fresh start for California families with children and wounded veterans who are transitioning into independent living. Transforming empty spaces into peaceful and comfortable homes, by installing new furniture, mattresses, bedding, bathroom, and kitchenware which lessens the burden caused by homelessness.

Founder Beth Phillips, Executive Director, Furnishing Hope shares, “Our philosophy is Nothing is more important than home, we believe that having a place to feel safe and secure while looking after one’s health and well-being is of utmost importance. For over 30 years, we have turned empty houses into homes, with design and care. Establishing a nurturing environment so that families can recover from loss, adjust to disabilities and regain independence, dignity and stability. Empowering families and the communities they live in to stop the cycle of homelessness and give people the tools to build a brighter future.”

Robyn Phillips, Program Director, Furnishing Hope, commented “Creating this initiative, 50 Home in 50 Days, actually started as an ambitious goal at the beginning of the year when we accomplished something we had never done before. Starting in April, and finishing in June as the world literally came to a stop, we installed 75 homes in 3 months.

Stating that due to California’s shutdown due to Covid-19, Furnishing Hope saw an opportunity to ramp up their installations and help even more families while there was less activity and traffic. Further sharing that adapting to coronavirus safety protocols and physical distancing was managed by gaining access before each family moved in. Instead of installing spaces that were inhabited by family members and also worrying about how to keep everyone safe.

Robyn added, “As we approach this holiday season, and have made it through one of the toughest years in our nation’s history – it’s truly heartwarming to know that with our efforts 50 more families will be sleeping in homes and finally feeling secure. That each of the families we are fortunate enough to help may have the opportunity to share a meal with their loved ones instead of being in a shelter or living on the streets. Brings an overwhelming joy as we continue to help people start new chapters and rebuild their lives.”

To donate in support of Furnishing Hope’s 50 Homes in 50 Days, drop off locations and local pickups are being scheduled for new furniture, lighting, mirrors, children’s items, toys, rugs and wall decor. For an appointment to donate call their FH Home Retail Store at 949.524.5937.

Turning unwanted furniture into fresh digs.

Our KNX Hero of the Week is re-purposing high-quality furniture headed to the dump, to brighten the lives of those in need.

For years, Justine Mackey battled challenges, including homelessness. The single mom says it took some time to get back on her feet. But, she eventually found a solid place to live. But her apartment was empty, and not ideal for raising a son. That’s when an organization called Furnishing Hope stepped in, and everything changed.

“I couldn’t stop crying!” Justine tearfully exclaims. “I almost had a heart attack, I was crying so hard, for so long. Each room they brought me too, I was crying harder and harder, because it was so amazing!”

“I love my apartment and I am very proud,” says Justine. “Being chronically homeless, this is my first apartment, and my first time having a real shot at life. I work two jobs. I work really hard, and I just want things to be normal for my son.”

Furnishing Hope is the brainchild of long-time Orange County designer, Beth Phillips.

“I just saw a lot to the things that my clients were wanting to get rid of when their homes were ready to move into,” says Beth. “It would [just go into] the landfill.”

“I thought there ought to be some way to connect the people that don’t have enough… with the people who have too much.”

“So, I took an opportunity to start a 501C3 when I had three clients that were just changing the whole interiors of their home. And with that, I furnished six homes with Habitat for Humanity.”

Since 2004, Beth and Furnishing Hope have furnished hundreds of homes, many that have gone to wounded veterans. Beth says having a kitchen table, a sofa, a bed… can be life-changing. Especially for young people.

“It’s such a part of your self-esteem,” says Beth. “You know, at the end of the day, you can just go home, and you can just be yourself. And, it’s so important for the children, because they need their own bed, and their covers, and their princess pillows.”

Turning an empty space into a furnished home, filled with love. We are honoring Beth Phillips as our KNX Hero of the Week, for bringing light to those who need a little extra!

KNX Heroes is presented by California Resources Corporation, saluting our military veterans, and all of our heroes!
