Print2Skype update:

I am testing the print2Skype option of our printer driver. I have included a screenshot. Its pretty simple:
1.)Connect to your Skype session
2.)Select the receipients of the printed output.
3.)Press the print button.

Scan2FusePad

I am currently testing a multipage tiff scan module that will work with any twain scanner and includes adf feeder capability with the option to scan to pdf or multipage tiff.

In the first release , Scan2FusePad will allow you to scan directly to your remote storage or to a local file, similar to Print2FusePad.

In later versions, I want to give users the ability to index their documents with custom templates. In my experience with other document imaging systems (Captiva, FileNet, and Documentum), the ability to create and search custom indexing templates was a high priority.

FusePad PDF Printer Driver Released

The free pdf printer driver has been released. It works on both xp and vista. There are currently 2 options: Print2File and Print2FusePad.

I am considering a 3rd option for printing directly to Skype users; However, I am currently neck deep in development of a backup solution for FusePad.

I have decided to make the backup option both online (backup directly to online storage) and to dvd and cd using using UDF (Universal Disk Format). This will give you maximum flexibility with cd and dvd drives and make it VERY SIMPLE for end users. Just stick in a dvd or cd and click backup.

Left navbar update:

I am currently updating the left navbar of FusePad with an outlook stye navbar.

As you can see, there is a new option on the left nav: Online Backups

I am currently working on upgrading the FusePad software services to include backup, which is a natural progression for the software.

Some of the backup serice features:

The ability to control backup scheduling for multiple machines from one FusePad account.

Asynchronous service to run backups in the background.

256 bit encryption.

Access to backups at the file level, meaning you can just copy one file out of a given backup without restoring the entire job.

Remote file storage still functions in the same manner, just double click a file, edit it , and save it back to the online storage.

Updated screenshots of the "FusePad PDF Printer"

The "free" pdf printer driver for FusePad will work with xp and vista and consist of 2 options initially:

First Tab consist of the basic local print2file option, not much different than most pdf printer drivers here.

The next tab consist of an option to print directly to your remote FusePad document storage.

I have been expermenting with a third option, print2skype, which will show your contact list and allow you to print directly to Skype users.

Currently , you can print to one or both options. Eventually, you will be able to print to one , two, or all three options (local file, FusePad storage, and Print to Skype users).

The printer driver is coming along. I am testing printing to remote document storage and am looking at adding a little more functionality to the whole "free printer driver" for pdfs. The printer driver will be free of charge and allow you to print to either your local drive, or your FusePad remote document storage.

I am also modifying the left nav bar of the main window in FusePad. This will become an outlook style nav bar with the following options:

View (your .box file view)
Local (your local drive)
Remote (your remote document storage)
Backups (your remote backups)

The right nav bar will stay the same as the options vary depending on
1) whether you are connected to skype
2) you have search results
3) you just started FusePad (getting started)

Full text search capability for pdf, doc, xls, and many other file formats is now live.

You can now create research databases out of a single FusePad .box file.

It's as easy as 1,2,3:

1.) Just import your documents into a file cluster and they are fully indexed when importing.

2.) Click the "Find" button and enter a search string, and viola, you have your results right away.

3.) Double click the result and it will launch the file in its native application.

pdf printer driver (print2skype, print2fusepad):

The pdf printer driver is coming along well. I currently have it printing out nice pdf files. The next step will be to integrate it with fusepad so you can print directly to your shared drives.

I will also have a second printer driver that will allow you to print directly to skype users. There will be two tabs when the dialog pops, one for printing to skype, one for printing to fusepad. You can do one or both.

The print2skype interface will be a wizard style that is easy to use, show your contacts in a nice list format, and allows you to print any printable content directly to anyone in skype.

document database , .doc database , pdf database ....

I am currently working on integrating fulltext search capabilities for word documets, pdf documents , excel files, and any ascii format.

The ability to create searchable knowledge bases based on these common file formats should make it easier for users to keep track of and manage their file clusters.

All your documents, pdf files, excel files, text ect... can be imported into our .box file format. They are fully indexed and searchable upon import.

pdf printer drivers -

We are currently working on a pdf printer driver that will allow you to print to pdf from any application on your desktop that supports printing.

This driver will contain two tabs, one for printing to a file on your desktop, and a second tab for printing remotely to your FusePad file folders.

We put the latest update to FusePad out today. It contains remote file storage and collaboration. Users can now collaborate via FusePad and Skype sharing views between users and groups.

Remote file storage cont...

Ok, I debated adding a note feature for files on the remote drive. This is useful for a good revision system keeping track of documents, source code file changes ect...

Users will have the ability to collaborate (yes...i know, its a buzz word) on files on the remote drive and save revisions, add notes external to the file and viewable in the interface...

I will have some screenshots of the note feature later this week.

Remote file storage cont...

I am currently knee deep in developing the remote file storage feature for FusePad. I have a great persistance mechanism built that pulls from the same logic as the filecluster objects in FusePad.

You will be able to double click on a file to open it similar to windows explorer. When changes are made to the file, you will be prompted to save file back to the remote drive with two options:

1.) save back as the same name, nothing new here.

2.) save back with a revision option, this will create a new file on the drive under a revision name. This will make editing files and "collaboration" more functional.

I hope to have some beta code out in the near future.

Remote File Storage and Collaboration:

Yes, I know it is an often used phrase "collaboration"...

I am currently adding a view option for remote file storage for users of FusePad.

Users will have a View/Folder structure similar to the local file option. You can add what ever files you want to the folders, and the look and feel is similar to windows explorer.

I am currently working on the ability of sharing views with other Skype users in your contact list. This option will allow you to assign either a group or set of users to
a specific view in your share.

You can assign the following access rights to your view per user:
1.) Read only.
2.) Read, write, delete.
3.) Read, write, delete, share with others.

You will be able to double click the files to open them in their native application.

You can add multiple files in a single operation.

Security: All files are encrypted with 256 bit rijnadel with a dynamic key per file, similar to our current stream options for sending files to users "in box".

You can enter notes on specific files. This will allow work groups to collaborate on projects, set up task lists, directions on file changes ect...

There are a few changes with the latest version. Most noticable a change to the main gui. I have added the explore functionality to the main interface. A simple "alt p" will give you the full functionality of the windows file system within the fusepad interface. You can select files and directories and either click "send" or "alt s" to send the selected items.

You can toggle between the explore functionality and your current view. I will be releasing the latest changes next week.

Busy with family...
My wife's brother passed away in October. November was a hard month for her and her family as they tried to struggle with the reality of her brother Rob's 9 month battle with cancer. I can honestly say that during the 18 years I knew Rob, he had a profound effect on my life and seeing him battle cancer and deal with others during the process was truly one of the most humbling experiences of my life, including marriage and 4 kids. Needless to say, my motivation was seriously low, sleep, the daily routines, but no drive to even care about fusepad or software development. I am starting to gear back up for battle and I have a few cool screenshots coming up, so stay tuned.

FusePad will be out of beta this month...We have two new features that we think will be useful:

1.) Explorer interface for sending directory structures to users with a single click. This will be useful for sending an entire project to a single user or group of users in your workgroup.

2.) Enhanced pdf creation from a single .box file. This will allow you to create bookmarked pdf files with attachments included in the pdf.

Here is a shot of the Main interface. I moved the inbox the right of the screen to give the main workspace more room. I also created control keys for the contact and inbox for easier navigation between the two.

I also added the ability to schedule transfers. If you are sending a gig of binary files... you may want to queue them and send them in off peak hours... In this shot, I have selected a directory from the c:\ drive to send to a single user. The directory and its contents were placed in an encrypted (Rijndael 256bit) compressed package for transfer.
