“When you buy from a small business an actual person does a happy dance”, a fellow entrepreneur and friend shared this quote with us. It is completely accurate and succinctly personifies the entrepreneur. It resonated so deeply with us that we will endeavor to purchase our holiday gifts this year from only locally owned or small business internet companies, while passing over the big box stores and chains. We challenge others to join us, make an actual person do a Happy Dance!

After re-launching www.fussbudget.com this February, we have become keenly aware of what it takes to start and run a small business, it’s not your grandmother’s internet. Our hats off to these entrepreneurs, many of them women owned businesses. There is pronounced appreciation of community amongst entrepreneurs. Offering one another guidance, following each other’s social media (@fussbudgetcom on Instagram and Facebook) (of course, we like and comment to offset the algorithms that tip the scales to larger chains and “influencers”) and much more.

The entrepreneurial spirit is in our blood as Americans. Free Commerce is our countries standard, it’s what has shaped us into a thriving nation. We are so grateful to the countless friends who have supported our business this year as well as our clearly brilliant new customers. Customer service and quality are the backbone of Fussbudget.com.

If you are the friend of an entrepreneur or small business owner, what can you do to help? Buy from your friends, like and follow their social media support them!!!

Make someone do a Happy Dance, shop local or shop small e-commerce!

In a few months, my middle daughter is about to go through an important rite of passage—graduation. As a mother, it’s both a happy and sad time for me. Though I’m sad to see my “baby bird” leave the nest, I’m happy for her opportunity to soar and I can’t wait to see where she goes in life!

Her graduation inspired us to create “For the Graduate” on Fussbudget.com. I have been searching far and wide for the perfect graduation gifts. From the iconic monogrammed towel wrap and beautiful sterling silver keepsakes, to rich leather goods and the utilitarian tool box (can’t forget the guy grads), we have some wonderful items. And, for the chic dorm room (guaranteed to be “grammed”), we have peel and stick wall murals—coming soon!!

Since I’ve been to this rodeo before with my oldest daughter, I can speak from experience when I say there are some things that are absolute must-haves for the graduate. I’ve come up with a short list below. And, coincidentally, you can find them all on Fussbudget.com!

Some dorm room musts that make great gifts:

1. Hand-held steamer
2. Slippers
3. Robe
4. Towel wrap
5. Wedge pillow for bed
6. Leather tray for change
7. Utilitarian gifts (like a tool box)
And the most important thing of all…
8. Monogram, Monogram Monogram!

Follow us on Instagram @fussbudget.com or Facebook @fussbudgetcom for the latest updates!

Stay Fussy,

Jennifer

When my late husband, Tom Pierotti, passed away in February of 2010 he had been receiving the Social Security Benefits that he had been contributing to and paying for his entire working career for ONLY A MONTH. Tom lost his battle with this horrendous disease a mere eighteen (18) months after diagnosis. I believe the ALS Disability Insurance Access Act will grant IMMEDIATE relief to patients and families enduring not only the ravages of this horrific disease but also ease the burden of carrying all the new financial uncertainties that accompany ALS.

Please take the time to click this link and contact your Congressmen and Senators. <span>When my late husband, Tom Pierotti, passed away in February of 2010 he had been receiving the Social Security Benefits that he had been contributing to and paying for his entire working career for ONLY A MONTH. Tom lost his battle with this horrendous disease a mere eighteen (18) months after diagnosis. I believe the ALS Disability Insurance Access Act will grant IMMEDIATE relief to patients and families enduring not only the ravages of this horrific disease but also ease the burden of carrying all the new financial uncertainties that accompany ALS.</span><br><br><span>Please take the time to click this link and contact your Congressmen and Senators. I am very grateful for the Bipartisan efforts on both sides of the aisle for the Senators and Congressmen who may make this a reality for all the families currently suffering with this brutal thief of a disease. Please act in memory of our beloved Tom!!! </span><br><br><span>Click this link to pass this act </span><a href="https://alsa.quorum.us/campaign/18492/?fbclid=IwAR2Z6TFTO891pxSM74Ccpcx2yQMwUdJtD-Yc5-co-dgOFENw2merN3CJOqI" target="_blank" data-ft='{"tn":"-U"}' rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" data-lynx-mode="origin" data-lynx-uri="https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Falsa.quorum.us%2Fcampaign%2F18492%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR2Z6TFTO891pxSM74Ccpcx2yQMwUdJtD-Yc5-co-dgOFENw2merN3CJOqI&amp;h=AT0uRnqbdXJzNgI7tt2qAC5VqyLODSzCkiZIV6OgYlwRQv6lLAwh4iJcVZlI7b29A3I33FrDdETVzZNKtPMhwlUdafziSVPasyYIUrgI6h8HdVLkxG5eEOGvem39k_ibPXvli-ZeTXZFkaLGyaxtMRJVERSUGZW1I-Urk8dM5ra_RMzgjPSGmeRY0ro2iMfD-o1Nnft1OvNPHpgdd7OKB8MGVQPmHFCHGGqzOZgWsJpTB3H-iPahlHDaYEnGPagQcouRb7E8PbrHMCSANvCMAINPzAXFL5TLHzcG-BvDM4AClDo3lSS5uNYf8spuQS2IgWo6ZKaxlbNBz2vfZN7DWWLw1iuLiavK5RgmAwtVmaB4we1zfpfZBNpblkLm3q8W1KgxQ0EQQEy33C75xmJ4KjAXzt5ACEIZEdn03PY4gtVDKuFJCrFzUem58D5ST8lTSIMuIFDo4JAe6yFTLvICzZ-XDDx2AKtxjP-15SIGTrhNVS-VgyxYgzXXow0iNK5jogSbrU6domnj9__eTuelVfCUaH_5ylqA6Cbv6lnbkGLwUqqjSrdI3jNnU2XnSh-LXdWqg5zYdKaeQFG99TqILFBqfugsmatbPOnMs8ZFSvSk_dH3zjAZkL1BwSvQf6lRK23DsC4">https://alsa.quorum.us/campaign/18492/</a><p><a class="read-more" href="https://fussbudget.com/blogs/fussiness/the-als-disability-insurance-access-act-was-reintroduced-in-the-116th-congress-this-week-introduced-with-strong-bipartisan-support-from-40-senators-and-90-representatives-learn-how-you-can-take-action-as-an-als-advocate-in-today">More</a></p>

I’ve invited two of my dogs to be our guest bloggers today because who better to review one of Fussbudget’s favorite new products (dog beds) than the pups who sleep in them?

As a way of background, Izzie is a Westie and is eight years old. Her favorite food is dog treats and she believes she is a giant outdoor farm dog. Foots is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever and is three years old. His favorite food is anything on the kitchen counter and one of his claims to fame is not being able to stop himself from a full gallop speed inside the house trying to stop himself he ended up and scraping a twelve-foot path in hardwood to the bamboo table and soup tureen he shattered that were impaled in the dry wall it went through (He is still very loved).

Hi Fussy Friends of my Mom!

This is Izzie. Foots and I are super excited to post our first “Dog Blog”; mainly because we spent a blissful night on our new denim lounge bed and the chill pad. Boy do we feel rested!

As experts on finding a good place to sleep (including people beds, couches and chairs) we can tell you that these dog beds are the best. They were so comfy!

Last night Foots and I traded places a lot, because we couldn’t decide who got which bed. I ended up in the Denim Lounge for most of the night; while Foots really got some serious z’s on the Chill Pad (Between you and me, Foots is high energy, so chilling is a good thing for him).

Since we have a few more dogs in the house, Mom says she’s going to buy Taylor (Havanese) a chill pad too while Scooter (a Morkie) gets the Snuggle bed. The Snuggle bed is ideal for those of us who like to snuggle into a tight space.

And for, Statler, the giant of our family, Mom is going to get the California Dreaming Memory Foam Bed (he’s a Great Dane). He’s super excited about it. I’m hoping maybe I can curl up on a corner and test it out myself.

Overall, Foots and I agree—we give the dog beds five paws up!

Stay Fussy,

Izzie and Foots

Happy President’s Day!

Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, today’s holiday became popularly known as Presidents Day after it was moved as part of 1971's Uniform Monday Holiday Act. This was an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation's workers (Wahoo!).

In recognition of this special day, we are pleased to offer a 20% Savings with Code Lincoln (excluding watercolors and pencil portraits)

To get your holiday and shopping started, here are 45 inspirational quotes from all 45 of the U.S. Presidents:

George Washington "Associate yourself with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for 'tis better to be alone than in bad company."

John Adams “To be good, and to do good, is all we have to do.”

Thomas Jefferson "Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude."

James Madison “The circulation of confidence is better than the circulation of money.”

James Monroe "It is by a thorough knowledge of the whole subject that [people] are enabled to judge correctly of the past and to give a proper direction to the future."

John Quincy Adams "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader"

Andrew Jackson “Any man worth his salt will stick up for what he believes right, but it takes a slightly better man to acknowledge instantly and without reservation that he is in error.”

Martin Van Buren “It is easier to do a job right than to explain why you didn't.”

William Henry Harrison "Times change, and we change with them."

John Tyler “I can never consent to being dictated to.”

James K. Polk "The gratitude ... should be commensurate with the boundless blessings which we enjoy."

Zachary Taylor "I have always done my duty. I am ready to die. My only regret is for the friends I leave behind me."

Millard Fillmore "An honorable defeat is better than a dishonorable victory."

Franklin Pierce "While men inhabiting different parts of this vast continent cannot be expected to hold the same opinions, they can unite in a common objective and sustain common principles."

James Buchanan “The test of leadership is not to put greatness into humanity, but to elicit it, for the greatness is already there.”

Abraham Lincoln “I don’t like that man. I must get to know him better.”

Andrew Johnson “If you always support the correct principles then you will never get the wrong results!”

Ulysses S. Grant “In every battle there comes a time when both sides consider themselves beaten, then he who continues the attack wins.”

Rutherford B. Hayes “Every expert was once a beginner.”

James A. Garfield “Right reason is stronger than force.”

Chester A. Arthur “Be fit for more than the thing you are now doing. Let everyone know that you have a reserve in yourself; that you have more power than you are now using. If you are not too large for the place you occupy, you are too small for it.”

Grover Cleveland “It is better to be defeated standing for a high principle than to run by committing subterfuge.”

Benjamin Harrison “Great lives never go out; they go on.”

Grover Cleveland “Unswerving loyalty to duty, constant devotion to truth, and a clear conscience will overcome every discouragement and surely lead the way to usefulness and high achievement.”

William McKinley “In the time of darkest defeat, victory may be nearest.”

Theodore Roosevelt “If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn’t sit for a month.”

William Howard Taft “We must dare to be great; and we must realize that greatness is the fruit of toil and sacrifice and high courage.”

Woodrow Wilson “The object of love is to serve, not to win.”

Warren G. Harding “There's good in everybody. Boost. Don't knock.”

Calvin Coolidge “If you see ten troubles coming down the road, you can be sure that nine will run into the ditch before they reach you.”

Herbert Hoover “Be patient and calm; no one can catch a fish with anger.”

Franklin D. Roosevelt “Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds.”

Harry S. Truman “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.”

Dwight D. Eisenhower “Pessimism never won any battle.”

John F. Kennedy “Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.”

Lyndon B. Johnson “Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.”

Richard M. Nixon “Remember, always give your best. Never get discouraged. Never be petty. Always remember, others may hate you. But those who hate you don't win unless you hate them. And then you destroy yourself.”

Gerald R. Ford “Never be satisfied with less than your very best effort. If you strive for the top and miss, you'll still 'beat the pack.'”

Jimmy Carter “You can do what you have to do, and sometimes you can do it even better than you think you can.”

Ronald Reagan “Heroes may not be braver than anyone else. They’re just braver five minutes longer.”

George Bush "No problem of human making is too great to be overcome by human ingenuity, human energy, and the untiring hope of the human spirit."

Bill Clinton “If you live long enough, you'll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you'll be a better person. It's how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit.”

George W. Bush “Use power to help people. For we are given power not to advance our own purposes nor to make a great show in the world, nor a name. There is but one just use of power and it is to serve people.”

Barack Obama “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

Donald Trump “In the end, you’re measured not by how much you undertake but by what you finally accomplish.”

Hope you enjoyed reading those as much as I did. And the last quote is from the President of Fussbudget (me): “Stay Fussy!”

We are growing and changing every day and a big part of this is the vendors who have agreed to partner with us. Most of our vendors are small family-owned (and many women-owned businesses like we are) who are focused on quality and craftsmanship.

Fussbudget’s vendors are invested in the excellence and workmanship of their goods. I am so proud that we are building a community; giving each other advice, entrepreneur to entrepreneur.

So, today’s blog takeaway is this: I LOVE WHAT I DO; and I WON’T STOP UNTIL I’M PROUD(ER)……. guess I’ll just keep on going!!!

Stay Fussy,

Jennifer

Good morning Fussy Friends,

A friend asked me the other day, “How do you select the items for Fussbudget?”

Well, the answer is simple: I love art and beauty.

Each vendor I approached has products that are both artistic and beautiful. So, of course I would be—and am—a customer myself. In fact, most items on our website can be found in my own home. (Just so we have our stories straight, I tell my husband I am “product testing.”)

Hearing feedback from Fussbudget customers, I realize they see the value too!! Just last week our best sellers were the Handcrafted Dolly Parton Pillows (custom made with care by an artisan with needle and thread), our beautiful Pear Blossom Copper Cuffs (designed and created by the phenomenal artist Ben Caldwell) and, of course, those darn cute and amazingly realistic children’s duvet covers.

An item that I’m excited to “test” in the coming weeks: our luxurious bamboo sheets. My set is in the mail and I promise to devote an entire blog to my first blissful night’s sleep.

And for those of you who want to let others know who the bamboo belongs to, monogramming of sheets and throws will be available soon! (You can always send them to Fussbudget.com for their own set 😊).

Stay Fussy,

Jennifer

Fussbudget.com Your Unique Online Boutique offering Luxury Gifts for the Fussiest of Friends

<meta charset="utf-8"><span>A friend asked me the other day, “How do you select the items for Fussbudget?”</span><br><br><span>Well, the answer is simple: I love art and beauty. </span><br><br><span>Each vendor I approached has products that are both artistic and beautiful. So, of course I would be—and am—a customer myself. In fact, most items on our website can be found in my own home. (Just so we have our stories straight, I tell my husband I am “product testing.”) </span><p><a class="read-more" href="https://fussbudget.com/blogs/fussiness/how-do-you-select-the-items-for-fussbudget">More</a></p>

Dear Fussy Friends,

As many of you may not know, I originally created Fussbudget.com in my garage in 1998 as a basket purse company. I had the fondest memories of playing with my mother’s purse as a child. So, I hired incredibly talented artists who would paint your home & family on a basket purse (with a penny glued inside for luck).

About the same time, my oldest daughter went to her first sleep-away camp. Talking with other parents, I learned loved ones receive much joy giving “happies” to their campers. So, Fussbudget expanded to become a camp care package company. My family assembled hundreds of packages, much to the delight of campers across the country. Though fun, it was hard work, too. After working a full day my late husband would become my number one stocker; we spent hours in our garage turned warehouse.

When I experienced the phenomenon of going to market, Fussbudget morphed again. Fussbudget 3.0 was born. Our best sellers became our gorgeous indoor sleeping bags and lap desks. (Keep an eye out—we are about to reintroduce one of our favorite sleeping bag lines within the next few days).

During my husband’s illness, he and our daughters were my priority and had to come first. I was fulfilling orders late in December and I thought “something has to give.” While I did not shutter it completely, I allowed the website to go dormant.

So, after a 10-year hiatus I feel renewed and reenergized. Blessedly our children are healthy and happy; and I’m invigorated with my renewed entrepreneurial spirit. Time for Phase Four of the ever-changing Fussbudget.com!

Like Ponce de Leon I went to market in search of the most amazing lines! I love them all so much, you’ll find almost all of them in my home (much to my new husband’s chagrin)!

Stunning Copper and Silver pieces from an Artisan Metalsmith, silky soft bamboo sheets, luxurious bamboo throws, exquisite pencil portraits of your home, custom-made commissioned pillows of your pets, children, home or favorite memory, pillows of “Women We Love” (one of my personal favorites) and the most GORGEOUS decorator pillow line I have ever seen. Last, but not least, imported balance bikes from France!!

I would love to hear from you!!!!

Stay Fussy,

Jennifer
