Scientists Invent 30 Year Continuous Power Laptop Battery

Your next laptop could have a continuous power battery that lasts for 30 years without a single recharge thanks to work being funded by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory. The breakthrough betavoltaic power cells are constructed from semiconductors and use radioisotopes as the energy source. As the radioactive material decays it emits beta particles that transform into electric power capable of fueling an electrical device like a laptop for years.

Although betavoltaic batteries sound Nuclear they’re not, they’re neither use fission/fusion or chemical processes to produce energy and so (do not produce any radioactive or hazardous waste). Betavoltaics generate power when an electron strikes a particular interface between two layers of material. The Process uses beta electron emissions that occur when a neutron decays into a proton which causes a forward bias in the semiconductor. This makes the betavoltaic cell a forward bias diode of sorts, similar in some respects to a photovoltaic (solar) cell. Electrons scatter out of their normal orbits in the semiconductor and into the circuit creating a usable electric current.

The profile of the batteries can be quite small and thin, a porous silicon material is used to collect the hydrogen isotope tritium which is generated in the process. The reaction is non-thermal which means laptops and other small devices like mobile phones will run much cooler than with traditional lithium-ion power batteries. The reason the battery lasts so long is that neutron beta-decay into protons is the world's most concentrated source of electricity, truly demonstrating Einstein’s theory E=MC2.

The best part about these cells are when they eventually run out of power they are totally inert and non-toxic, so environmentalists need not fear these high tech scientific wonder batteries. If all goes well plans are for these cells to reach store shelves in about 2 to 3 years.

Skype is Dead?

Skype users around the world on August 16, lost access to the service. Its work has not yet been restored. In Skype explain the breakage problems with p2p- networks and software. It is not known when the Internet-pager will fully recover.

On August 16 the most popular VoIP service in the world, Skype, the entire day had problems with connectivity. For the first quarter of 2007, the number of Skype users was about 196 million and the average number of users online in the network is approximately 7-8 million. Currently, the number is about half a million.

The official message posted on the website, initially stating that "trouble p2p- network." Later came other information : "Our team found that the problem is in the software." The company apologized to customers and advised to run Skype and expect connection.

Occasionally, users can connect for a short time with the service, after which Skype- client again is passed in off line - regime. Skype representatives promised to correct the problem during the 12-24 hours.

It will be recalled that not so long ago a similar global problem experienced ICQ users. Within a few hours on March 30, 2007 instant messaging network ICQ did not work all over the world. Problems continued in April-ICQ users around the world were still experiencing great difficulty with the service.

Web 3.0 - Don't Follow the Japanese Model

There is a tsunami size change coming to the Internet called Web 3.0 and it is simply defined, not as artificial intelligence, but as Web 2.0 moving out-of-doors. The Internet is no longer about being inside at your desk in a social network. The defining act, of this new phase, will be the masses of currently disconnected and disinterested populations joining on-line for the first time from all parts of the world, leap frogging past all previous Web iterations and landing in a nearly seamless mobile communication environment with the physical world. The goal of this article is to bring attention to how one part of this act has started to unfold in a flawed manner. That concern is focused on how we choose to hardlink (hyperlink) from the objects in our world.

Learn about the object in front of you
The Japanese are already well underway in both experimentation and real world use in their communication with physical objects and maybe it's too late to alter their course, but the rest of the worlds countries can learn from their contributions. The process they use, as pioneered by at least one Japanese company, works something like this: You take a picture of a special tag (barcode) with your phone as it is found on some object (box of cereal), and that act then redirects your phones Web browser to the manufacturers site. See QR Code for more information. This is of course only one simple example of application and hardware.

The concept itself is absolutely wonderful and I hope that we can all use our imagination and visualize how this has the potential to educate and elevate people everywhere in education. There are not many concepts in the human experience that have the potential to contribute to our well being with the magnitude that this one does – we have to get it right.

Wrong Turn because we saw something shiny
My concern, my waving of arms, is to bring to the attention of as many as I can that we are on a train that has veered in the wrong direction, simply because we saw something shiny.

The problem that I am so concerned about is the use of tags (barcodes). From a purely academic perspective I am fascinated that tags have become as popular as they have in their modern incarnation. Interestingly enough, it was an idea that was born not out of utility, but rather novelty. It was cool to do this Internet barcode thing with your phone (e.g. The shiny) and it has since taken on a life of its own entailing overkill comparable to hunting quail with the USS Missouri.

My argument against tags is founded on a number of issues, but possibly the most critical is that the current tagging model is no where near capable of covering what we need to accomplish with hardlinking. It's just not broad enough, not to mention you have to make your own tag. For example, it's just not practical to ask your little league team players to stick barcodes on their uniforms, only to find they are too small or move to fast for your camera to focus at the correct angle – you can imagine all the application problems here from farming, extreme climates, efficiency and many more. By using tagging, we are in a sense putting lip stick on a pig – they are barcodes for heavens sake!

Its not a matter of IF but When
It's interesting that most folks walking the streets today have no conceptual idea of what a physical hyperlink is, but in about 5 years it will be as common as the cell phone itself. It is fairly easy to speculate on this because the advantages of pulling information from an object when you need it is a powerful concept that we now have the technology to make happen.

In my humble opinion, I think we should all hold hands and pray that a natural linking system is the model of choice for the countries that are just learning about it. A natural linking system or model is one that will not require you to load proprietary software on your phone and it does not require that you print or buy RFID's or barcodes to put on your target object. It is a system that will use text in the form of an objects natural name, part number, model number, barcode number or even the image of the object itself. I was so nervous about this outcome not evolving that I have entered my own horse in the race – but he's quite insignificant to the big players.

One of the big players is Microsoft. I am not the biggest Microsoft fan, but some interesting things are going on in Redmond, Washington related to this topic that are encouraging. In the first week of May 2007, Microsoft told those remaining workers in the AURA project that it was being shut down and that has indeed happened as of the end of June 2007. This is important because the AURA project is one of many fledgling barcode projects in development around the globe, all with their own proprietary software. In my small corner of the world, this was great news. Why Microsoft did this I don't know, but they are still working on an image based linking system and this is also good news. An image based linking system could be the ultimate natural system if they can pull it off without undue licensing requirements and vendor entanglements. Such a system would allow a user to take a picture of the object and that would then be resolved in a database returning information relating to that image.

Pleasing Images and Artificial Intelligence Theory

Much work is currently being done in the scientific community to fuse non-human or artificial intelligence into a mold, which will be accepted by their human counterparts. You might understand that a soon to be or someday inferior human may be a little upset working along side an advanced robot or artificial intelligent android.

How the android looks will be a big factor, its facial expressions will also be important as well. One might even consider the types of visual images that are pleasing to humans now. Think about the visual imagery used in advertising today, lots of research goes into this, because non-pleasing advertising will not sell products or services.

The future of these psychological truths will be evident also in Artificial Intelligent Robot Androids mimicking human behavior and adjusting to personalities. Thus a whole new set of research papers are now re-affirming what is now being discussed in advertising images and its relation to the future.

At MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, Cal-Tech, Texas A & M, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and so many other schools they are considering this. A recent study from the University of Riverside in California not only confirms advertising theory, but says the exact same thing about online images and computer human interfaces for online marketing, with all the empirical proof which cannot be put into any small and tight well-written article on the subject. Perhaps you will consider all this in 2006.

What Jobs Will Be Hot in the Future?

Have you ever consider which jobs will be in the most demand in the future? Sure you probably have guessed a few. You see, there will be many jobs in the future that will be necessary to continue to probe tell our economy and run our civilization. For instance we need more engineers right now and in the future we will need even more. Therefore it behooves the United States of America to make sure the kids take math and science classes in school and that we focus on these issues.

It is estimated currently that between 35 and 45% of the companies and corporations, which hire people have one or more categories that they cannot satisfy currently. Without skilled labor to do those jobs or the knowledge required the corporation cannot run efficient way and that can be problematic. In the 23 countries, which are considered the top first world countries most of the jobs needed will be about the same. Therefore the United States will be competing with other nations to get people with certain job skills to come and work in their country.

We will be competing on the global market for employment just so we can get all the work done. And it is not just engineers, as we will need computer programmers, salespeople, technicians, truck drivers and air-traffic controllers. In fact there will be no end to the need in those categories. Please consider all this in 2006.

Last mile communications have been the most talked about feature over the past decade, as it really had a very thin line separating the consumers from the technology. That is the reason why last mile communications to home and most business establishments did not employ optical fibers due to cost implications. The best alternative was copper wires, which the DSL and cable internet communication technologies favored a lot. DSL and cable modem technologies still rule the roost in many developed and developing countries, while the developed countries are slowly moving towards having an ubiquitous network infrastructure facilitated by wireless LAN technologies.

Wireless Interoperability for Microwave Access, fondly called as WiMax, is gaining momentum as this technology has the potential to replace DSL and cable modem infrastructure. The most fascinating aspect of WiMax is the coverage and the data-rate it offers, rivaling most DSL and cable technologies.

WiMax will primarily form a part of the backhaul network, while the wireless mesh technology would provide a resilient, pervasive and self-healing network, which is ultimately cheap and easily accessible. Computer Ergonomics And The Office Of The Future - Part 1

Since I have been working with employees of large companies for many years helping them to reduce pain and be more comfortable I often wonder what it will look like in the future. Will companies be willing to spend profits to help their employees be more comfortable and hence increase company profits even more. Here is what I see!

PC, Laptop and Docking Station

Smaller CPU's or laptops will create more space in the workspace as well as create a more visually appealing look. Flat panels will add to this look and create more space on the desk as reduce glare.

The additional room on the desktop and below the work surface equates to a clearer mind. A clearer mind is sharper, more creative and innovative.

Computer users will find it much easier to focus if the backgrounds of monitor screen were yellow with blue writing. It basically has a lot to do with the cones and rods of the eyes. Right now, pull out your marker and try it out on paper! Are any computer monitor manufacturers reading this?

I see many more people using with card readers they slide into their keyboard that will enable them to work from a computer on the other side of the world and still be able to view their desktop. This is being done in many large companies now and is very beneficial to those that travel frequently for business.

The computer of choice will be a laptop and working in comfort with a flat panel monitor, ergo mouse and keyboard.

For those that use the laptop on the road I see accessories that will enable the computer user to work in more comfort… ergonomic mouse, ergonomic keyboard, and traveling "table."

People will learn the importance of not using the laptop in they exact ways that it is used now. I believe we will see laptops that are designed to fit each computer user.

Some of these adjustments include screen height and distance from eyes, a built-in ergonomic keyboard that comes out and adjusts to each person's shoulder width and a screen brightness button that works in many types of lighting to reduce glare.

Keyboards and Mice

I see most people using ergonomic keyboards and mice. They will not just settle for the traditional, flat keyboards from the manufacturers' anymore. They will demand more comfort at and adjustable keyboards that fit their body. Ergonomics will just be much more understood and accepted (if I have anything to say about it!).

There will be ergonomic keyboards designed with built-in mice in the front and center so that it is easy and comfortable to use. No more reaching to the mouse on the left or right.

Plus there will be lightweight, fold-up ergonomic keyboards designed for laptops for those who have not purchased their ergonomic laptop yet.

The more keyboard adjustability features, the easier to adjust to shoulder width for comfortable and neutral posture.

Resting Reminders

I see keyboards that play your choice of music to gently remind you to rest your hands and body after you have typed a certain amount of characters or typed for a specific length of time.

Your mouse will also "sing" to you to rest! It will alert you when you have clicked a specified amount of times or moved the mouse a certain amount of feet. It will also sense how long you have been using the mouse no matter what you are doing with it and tell you to rest.

Who would have seen this just a few short years ago? This is so important because when the body rests, the mind also rests, giving it more capacity to create, produce and increase profitability.

Stretch and rest software will be more readily acceptable in the workplace as a way to remind workers to take a break from work and rest and stretch. You can follow along with the software and complete stretches picked especially for your aches and pains.

There will be free versions or paid versions and it will become a standard type of software in the workplace and at home. It will also contain ergonomic information to help people understand what might be causing their pain.

With global warming, general pollution and rising fuel prices, our future energy needs are a hot topic. Fuel cells may represent a solution, one coming sooner than later.

Future Energy Concepts – The Fuel Cell

A fuel cell is a fairly vague phrase thrown around by those in the know and those that know relatively little. Regardless of the particular design, a fuel cell is essentially a cell similar to a battery in which a chemical process occurs to produce electricity. In this case, however, the fuel is hydrogen. The basic idea is to combine hydrogen with oxygen in a process that produces electricity. This electricity is then used as we would normally use it in our lives.

If you read the paper or watch the news, one would think the concept of hydrogen fuels in a new one. In fact, it is not. The first one was created in 1839. The problem, of course, was it was inefficient and there wasn’t much interest since fossil fuels were plentiful and our energy needs were tiny compared to today. It wasn’t until the 1960s that much interest was shown in the energy platform. As with many advances, NASA decided to use fuel cells to power the Gemini and Apollo spacecrafts. Unfortunately, the trick has been translating this limited use to wide spread applications in daily life.

A common misconception is a fuel cell represents renewable energy. Very clearly, it does not. It is a device, not an energy platform. It is like saying a hydroelectric dam is a renewable energy. The dam is a machine to harness a renewable energy resource, but not an energy source in and of itself. The fuel cell works much the same way. It is a methodology for harnessing energy from hydrogen. The particular method can be clean or dirty, to wit, one can use water or coal for the base material. Obviously, coal is not much help.

Fuel cells can be run, in theory, on any material containing hydrogen. This means renewable energy sources such as hydrogen, biogas, and so on. The primary goal is to focus on water and other renewable sources because of their inherent clean advantages. When hydrogen is used, for instance, it produces no tangible pollution or greenhouse gases. The byproduct, instead, is simply water.

There are a few hurdles that must be overcome before hydrogen fuel cells really become a viable energy platform. First, the technology is such that the fuel cells are far too large and heavy to be used for practical purposes. The infamous hydrogen car is not currently viable because of this, although test cars from primarily German manufacturers are being evaluated. The second problem is efficiency, which is to say fuel cells are not. Currently, fuel cells produce energy at a cost of about 10 times that of fossil fuels, and that is a positive estimate. Again, not a viable option.

While these may seem like significant hurdles, they actually point to the viability of hydrogen fuel cells as a power source. These problems are focused on technical aspects of delivery, not on whether the process works. If there is anything we are good at as a species, it is making technological breakthroughs. If we can build a hydrogen nuclear weapon, surely we can build a hydrogen fuel cell.

The Future Of Football (soccer)

In recent decades football has gained popularity around the globe and is now enjoyed by millions of people both at the stadiums and in the grounds. Although the sport has a global following, all the main club teams are based in Europe, and this is where they can contest the greatest club competitions. Players from Russia, Africa, USA, South America and as far a field as Australia all cite their ambitions as to play in Europe where they can contest the greatest competitions as well as earn the most money. Traditionally South American players migrate to the Spanish League where there are cultural ties and within Europe as well you can see Scandinavian players often moving to the Premiership where the weather is similar. Obviously the time is always ticking on the time players can compete at the top level and you will often see players moving back to their own countries towards the tail end of their careers or in some cases moving to the ‘Major Soccer League’ in the US or to Japan where the teams are always for stars to promote the game on home soil.

So what of the future of the game. As globalization takes hold I think we will see successful national teams from countries across the globe. Where previously only teams from Europe and South America could seriously contest trophies I can see a time where any from a number of teams have a chance. There has been a rising of standards already in places such as the Far East and Australia and I can see now reason why the trend won’t continue. Less glamorous nations are taking much more professional outlooks on the game, often attracting the likes of experienced coaches which can only improve them further. The money there is in the game these days too can only act as a motivating factor as well for people, possibly from poorer nations to make it a career goal.

Although for many years the USA has dominated in the world of track and field athletics as well as obviously in sports such as baseball and basketball they have never competed on the same level in football. I have it on authority though that the game is gaining popularity in the states producing in recent times some exciting talents. And on the back of a relatively successful World Cup campaign last time round we may well see growing standards from what is, after all, the richest country on earth.

With globalization and increased industrialization around the planet one country in particular is seeing massive monetary growth. China has in recent times used this growth and it’s massive population to push for greater sporting excellence. The last Olympics proved this and I can see them dominating to an even greater degree when they play host to the next Olympics. Their club football teams have of late also attracted some international talents in terms of both players and coaches, albeit possibly ones at the wrong end of their careers but it is an obvious sign of the ambitions of the nation. Riding this upward trend we may well see China too competing in international football tournaments in the future.

The future of identification technology is long and rich, just as its history. From the days of not even being able to read finger prints, we've come to retinal scans, fingerprint identification and even body scans. And as identification technology continues to evolve, it will become increasingly more sophisticated.

Today we traditionally use a laminated ID card alone or in conjunction with biometric technologies of all types, depending on the situation and industry. The increased use of ID cards with biometric technologies is in direct response to higher security concerns and an atmosphere that greatly values identity.

A huge part of the identification technology of the future is RFID, or radio frequency identification technology. Using RFID technology, a number of things are possible, including full body scans—at home. For example, say you and your family are going away for the weekend and you've engaged your neighbor to care for your animals, but want to ensure only your neighbor can enter.

Instead of a key, all you'd need to do is program their body information into your scanner and set it exclusively to them. Upon scanning, your door would open. While this sounds like science fiction, it is a very real possibility that, according to popular science, will be available in the 2020's.

Or how about the already available laptops that offer biometric security technology? All you do is place your thumb on the reader and your laptop is unlocked or locked, allowing for maximum security even if it's lost or left somewhere.

Additionally, experts are predicting that within the next ten years, the US will see a national identification card system. It's conceivable that such an ID card would use various technologies together, such as RFID, thumbprint identification, and a rewritable microchip that contains your history, medical background, insurance information and other statistics combined into one license or national ID card that would outdate even a license.

Thus, the future of ID technology is rapidly expanding and growing at a startling rate. Within the next ten to twenty years, advances in biometric and RFID technology may grow to the point that even regular homes will have technologies like body scanning and much, much more.

The Past And Future Of Contact Lenses

Have you ever wondered about the history of contact lens? How have they been invented? And how do contacts correct vision?

Your vision depends on light beams hitting the retina (the back of your eyeball) at the same point. When the light does not meet at the same point, vision becomes blurred.

To correct this vision problem a lens needs to be placed in front of the eye to compensate. The lens then becomes a 'perfect' eye and light beams converge together at the retina.

Even though eye glasses have long provided the needed correction for vision problems, contact lenses were a marvel of science allowing individuals the freedom to forgo the hassle of slipping, fogging and distracting eye glasses. The inside surface of the contact lens is fitted to the shape of your eye so it stays in place. The outer surface is shaped to the corrected curve (as in eye glasses).

Originally, these contacts were made of hard plastic that required saline solution drops on a regular basis to keep moist. They were also prone to 'popping' out and causing discomfort when blinking. Newer contacts are made from a soft plastic that allows the eye to 'breathe'. They are much more comfortable to wear and because of the high water content of the material they require less maintenance during use. Soft contacts cling to the layer of tears covering the cornea and move slightly with each blink. This ensures that the eye stays moist and foreign materials can be safely washed out.

Basically, the purposes of contact lenses are to correct common vision problems like short-sightedness (myopia - when a person can focus on objects close to them but not far away) and far-sightedness (hyperopia - where the individual can see well at a distance but has trouble focusing clearly on print and other close objects). Now even individuals with astigmatism (where the shape of the cornea is elongated) or presbyopia (an age related condition that used to require bi-focals) can find contact lenses to suit their unique needs.

Currently, contacts are now developed in a disposable variety that means no cleaning is required. There are also contacts that can be worn for a week or even a month without being removed and cleaned - great for those who hate the daily hassle.

Many contact lens wearers are experimenting with changing the color of their eyes. While older versions produced harsh colors, new versions of color contacts (which can even be worn by individuals who have no vision problems) can be found in subtle shades and can even change dark eyes to light.

The contacts will be improved in the future. There is even talk of contacts created to prevent conditions like myopia from developing in children. Whatever happens, those with vision problems can count on new solutions being added to the currently available options all the time.

There are three main languages in the world today, and they are English, Chinese and Spanish. These three languages currently dominate the literate world. In this article we will attempt to look at the future of languages and what it means for human communication.

In our world, English is of course the dominant language. Chinese is second of the large population of China while Spanish is the third most common language because of its widespread use around the world. Today we are seeing the start of the mixture of English and Spanish in the US, and it is likely that this trend will continue to rise and the English language in the US will use many Spanish words. Of the surveys viewed during the time of writing, the most popular language that people were interested to learn was Spanish. This not only applies to the US, but also in Europe.

‘Spanglish’, as is the term for the combination of English and Spanish, will certainly become more and more popular in the future. In time to come, as many as 30% of words used in the United States may be Spanish.

Meanwhile, in the future, it is predicted there will be software that will help translate spoken languages. These are called voice synthesis programs. A person speaks into the program, and the listener will hear the translation in the language of his choice. Will this mean less people will start studying foreign languages? Probably not. Software can’t help you away from the computer after all, and foreign languages remain an interest to many who like to experience different cultures and expand their horizons.

Global Warming Poses Serious Consequences For The Environment In The Future

In case you have been out of the loop, global warming is gradually becoming a serious concern to our environment and our planet as a whole. In general, global warming is caused by carbon dioxide and other air pollution that is collection in the atmosphere. As it collects and builds up, it is little by little trapping the sun’s heat and warming up the planet.

So what does this mean for the environment? It is indeed warming up, but not so much that it is considerably noticeable. However, scientists predict that at this rate the average global temperature will be 3 to 9 degrees higher by the end of the century. In result of these rising temperatures, many states in the U.S. are already showing signs of the effects with some of the worst wildfire seasons ever in 2002.

In the same year, drought caused severe dust storms in states like Montana and Colorado, and floods created millions of dollars in damage to the states of Texas, Montana and North Dakota. Because of the continuous rise in heat, many mountains have been affected by their snow totals. Since 1950, snow accumulation has declined by 60 percent in some mountains and many winter seasons have become shorter.

Outside of the U.S., global warming has caused more than 20,000 deaths in Europe just in 2003 because of extreme heat waves. What is the scariest of all facts is the decline of the Arctic’s perennial polar ice cap. At this rate, it is declining at 9 percent per decade.

Every year, scientists learn more about the direct effects of global warming on the environment and what society can do to help the cause. There is no denying the fact that global warming is a serious issue and if it continues on the path it is heading, there is much more devastation to come. Some of the consequences that are to come include melting glaciers and severe droughts causing water shortages, rising sea levels will flood the Eastern coastal seaboard and warmer sea surface levels will fuel more intense hurricanes.

Today’s unstable weather and the futures predicted weather pattern can certainly cause a major catastrophe if we as society don’t stop it today. Things as simple as using a fluorescent light bulb over an incandescent light bulb can preserve energy. By saving energy, it will eliminate a ton of carbon dioxide pollution that is released into the air.

Little by little, more information is being released to the public about global warming and people are gradually becoming more aware of the problem. There is no room to wait for tomorrow to begin saving energy because the future lies within our hands. All it takes is a little effort from everyone in the world to save the future of the planet from the horrific consequences global warming could potentially have.

Distance learning online has become the ultimate hi tech alternative to the old school classroom teaching.

What is distance learning?

Distance learning as a term is normally used when talking about teaching-learning where the student is located in one place in the world and the school/teacher in another place.

Why use it?

There are many good reasons why a school would choose to use distance learning or e-learning.

1. The school has students from a large geographical area. And to be able to increase this area (and the number of possible students), without the need for a bigger campus or more dorms, the online long distance study methods works very well.

2. The school has multiple campus areas, located at large distances. This is one of the newest ways of using distance learning. The student actually is located in a campus area, but as the school has several campuses and the student (and teachers) would have to travel for hours to reach each one of them, the classes have been altered into distance learning experiences.

3. Fewer teachers. This is possible as a teacher without travelling can teach in several places around the country (and the world) without leaving his or hers own room!

Tools used

There are many different levels of technical tools as well as teaching methods applied when using distance learning.

Everything from email and a simple bbs , to streamed live video and advanced meeting areas where students and teachers can work together in an interactive way.

Tests and work papers can be mailed or fetched and re saved via filesharing directly from the schools servers.

And by combining things like high resolution webcams and skype, the cooperation can be taken to a completely new and never before seen level.

There will be a lot of advancements in the area of distance learning in the future. Who knows, your kids may even have the option to take some classes from home, using tools integrated in your tv in the future.

All nations should consider the use of military Unmanned Ground Vehicles and their various uses. Yet at the same time those in charge of such initiatives for future military assets must also be completely realistic of their capabilities, vulnerabilities and liabilities. It must be determined how they can best serve and when they should be deployed.

Fully autonomous fighting vehicle technologies are now available, yet problematic if they are to be counted on for defense or relied upon for offensive objectives when the stakes are high. It might well be possible that in the future these units are considered to be safer bet than the use of humans on-board the fighting vehicles and although that day is not here yet, it most certainly will be some day and some day soon. Unmanned Vehicles will change the future of warfare.

For tele-robotic unmanned ground vehicles the weak link is indeed the communication systems. Still more discussion, dialogue and strategizing will be needed to adapt to the new paradigm of robotic warfare. Electronic Attack and protecting against electronic attack must be considered. The future is now upon us, do you have a plan?

It seems that not so long ago, electric cars were a very distant possibility. However, in today’s world, electric cars are becoming extremely popular and may very well be a large part of our not so distant future. Electric cars have been produced, tried, and tested by many manufacturers and consumers are excited about the prospect. Let us take a look at the many positives that can go with the future of electric cars and why we should consider it as a possibility in our own future.

Electric cars are all together cleaner and safer for our environment. By driving electric cars, our generation will virtually eliminate air pollution and make the air cleaner for future generations. Cleaner air to breathe is a necessity and electric cars can work to provide that.

Electric cars are more affordable than fuel powered cars. Studies on electric cars have shown that for a passenger vehicle it will cost less to run the electric cars, than filling your car up every week with gas. In fact, for about $30, electric cars can operate for one full month. With the price of fuel on the rise at a consistent speed, electric cars would offer our finances a nice break. Maintenance is more affordable as well; you will not have to worry about changing the oil, submitting your car for a smog check, or having a tune up performed on electric cars.

Noise pollution is something we all complain about, especially within the bigger cities. Electric cars provide a quieter environment for everyone concerned. The future of electric cars mean no more 3 AM wake up calls by our neighbor’s loud cars. Furthermore, those that live close to busy streets and highways will sleep and live easier without the extra noises from the cars driving down the streets.

One problem about electric cars is at the present time it cannot travel extremely far without needing a charge. 25 to 60 miles on one charge is about all you can expect at this point in time. However, some areas offer “charging stations”, for example those in California can stop at a charging station and charge their electric cars for longer trips. It takes about three hours to fully charge the electric cars before you are ready to go again. The technology of electric cars is still being manufactured and research; we can expect great things in the markets in the future.

In the end, we all live here on earth and are all responsible for its preservation. Everyone needs to do their part, however seemingly small that may be. Use of electric cars is only one possibility to consider in preserving quality of life on earth for ours and future generations.

Music is incredibly an important part of our day to day lives. Be it home, office or any place, the soothing sound and lyrics of an enchanting music track refreshes our whole day’s tiredness and stress. Music business is not the same as it used to be and it has changed many fold times. Future music, in the same way is going to be different from what we get today.

Entertainment in the beginning was in the form of song tracks distributed in plastic tape cassettes. Then CD’s were invented that provided much better quality of sound and was easily distributed. With the recent advent of MP3 which allows large data to be compressed without affecting the original melody of the music, it has really become the future of music business.

MP3 music has become so popular that now it is easily available through different websites. Consumer is now in a much better state to listen good quality music through mp3 downloads and songs as these cost much less than the other audio forms available. This at the same time has brought huge threat along with it, in the form of music piracy.

When a music company launches an album, it makes some copyright laws that disallow a third party to imitate or publish the same music record in any form. Since music could be easily downloaded and recorded in the form of Mp3 files, it is a main source of music piracy.

There are several laws being imposed making piracy an illegal act and fineable too. But threats still moves along with times as more and more Mp3 and forms of audio develop different methods to access music.

Have you noticed a lot of changes happening around you, some of them which seem to be not very good ones? With the major changes in weather patterns and the accelerated pace of world events, most people nowadays are aware that something is going on! The topic of world change is on the minds and in the hearts of many people who are witnessing what is happening and not sure how to respond in a positive way. World events appear to be spiraling towards more negativity and violence, and many beautiful and kind hearted souls who hope to change the world with positive actions are frustrated by the difficulties they encounter, or by the apparent lack of effect of their good works.

To understand the process of world change from the spiritual perspective, it is necessary to understand the current times we live in. Never before have human beings been more interconnected. The acceleration pace of communications technology has created what is truly a global community, where we are becoming increasingly aware of all of humanity. The spiritual teaching that we are all One is rapidly manifesting on the Earth, as the reality of our interdependence and interconnectedness reveals itself daily, and will reveal itself even more so in the times to come.

The extreme imbalances in our world are being revealed, and it is no longer possible for us to shut out the reality of the needs of the human family of which we are all a part. World change is greatly needed in a world where most people lack basic resources for survival, and where a relatively small number of people have an overabundance of resources.

As spiritual transformation on the Earth progresses, it will become apparent to more and more people that these imbalances, where one part of our human family suffers at the expense of another, are actually detrimental to everyone. This awakening of planetary consciousness has not yet happened, but it will. The present time of world change has been prophesied in many different cultures and religions, and each of us who are here today is an important and essential part of this evolution in human consciousness.

World change is happening at an ever accelerating rate, and each individual who opens their heart to God's love and embraces the spiritual calling to awaken, adds their light and love and consciousness to the planetary collective consciousness. It is through many individuals awakening that world change will manifest and transform the current global situation, bringing into manifestation a new era for the family of humankind.

The past, present, and future of cell phones

Just in the last few years cell phones (usually called mobile phones outside the US) have become de facto standards for most of the population. What once used to be a luxury item for a select few that was carried around in a large leather bag and was the size of the brick, is no longer.

Technology has advanced the mobile phone industry to the point where the phone is a mere commodity for vendors, meaning that's not where they make the real money. It's in the service plans, which require 2 year commitments usually, where companies like Sprint, Nextel (now Sprint Nextel), AT&T (now Cingular), Cingular, Verizon, and T-Mobile make the revenues that enable the cycle of technology innovation and marketing to continue.

While the downsides of cell phones have focused primarily on the annoyance of public conversations and the small possibility of brain damage due to cellular coverage near the ear, these pale in comparison to the benefits derived from cellular technology. For those who have had cell phones most of their lives (think anyone under 25), it's hard to imagine life before cell phones. Writing down numbers in a paper directory, having change on hand (first a nickel, then a dime, then two dimes), knowing how to make collect calls, and finding pay phones in new cities were frequent logistic challenges. Not to mention the inconvenience of not being able to get access to those you need at any time.

At this point, corporate employees, sales professionals, parents, young adults, and anyone in industries where communication among many is critical could hardly imagine life without the benefits of mobile phones.

As technology matures, ringtones, cameras, GPS features, music, and multiple other features will be added to the hardware. And the software on phones will progress to include easier web access, advertisements, news downloads, and easier chat and email features - becoming the only piece of technology most use. In fact, in many countries in South Asia (where the industrial revolution never occurred) they have gone from agricultural industries right to technology, bypassing an entire type of economy. It is in these countries where the cell phone is an essential tool, enabling communication among millions who don't own a computer.

As technology advances, and people respond positively to resulting changes, we will all benefit.

This concept comprises several core features which have been determined due to some surveys conducted in order to construct a housing place where everybody would feel happy and secure.

One of the biggest obstacles to the provision of affordable housing in the locality is the high cost of land for building, therefore new homes would still be out of reach of the significant population with low incomes and those who have reached the retirement age or the aged.

Having grown up in a consumer society, people will want the best they can afford that is more space, en--suite bathrooms and additional bedrooms for family to stay in or a live in carer. Many will be influenced by the size of the accommodation. Those buying their homes are increasing as the proportion of owner--occupier increases in the population. There will also be older people unable to exercise similar choices. The trends indicate that the traditional clients of social rented sheltered housing falling in relation to an increase in owner--occupiers and so providers of rented sheltered housing will need to be aware of changing expectations.

The next feature is security and safety. Those who are socially isolated or vulnerable or in poor health will appreciate the sense of support from being part of a like minded community, with on-site staff geared to their specific needs and accessible faculties. One of the main reasons people give for moving into schemes is security. Although the fear of crime if greater than the actual risk, security is paramount but should be discreet. The last thing people like is the feeling that they are living in a prison.

Future housing inhabitants have also claimed about support needs. The kind of support they need ranged from help claiming welfare benefits, managing finance, supervising health and wellbeing. Those who currently receive care and support services indicated that their support was provided by Social Services or Voluntary bodies but the majority was supported by family, friends or neighbours. Only a tiny minority received support from both services.

How The World Will Look Like In The Next 50 Years

People have always been intrigued of what the future will look like. The answers are quite simple and here you have them for the next 50 years.

How can we know what the future will look like?
To be able to understand the future, you must know the past. What has taken us to where we are today and what has changed along the way. The world has changed a lot in the last 150 years, but we humans are driven by the same basic needs as we were 150 years ago, food, sleep, sex, the feeling of being appreciated and loved. Will this change in the next 150 years? No.

What inventions have really made a difference in the last 150 years?
If you take away all gadgets that people in some part of the world are using for entertainment, the inventions that have affected most people around the world for everyday living are the telephone, electricity, radio, television, computer, the car and the ability to communicate through Internet. Then we of course have a lot of inventions that have made life easier, like new medicine, faster transports etc.

In general the inventions for the last 150 years have been a human strive for freedom and communication, to be able to get in control of the time and world. Since there is still much to do in this area, this will be the focus at least for the next 150 years.

But why do we need to predict the future?
Predicting the future is important for two reasons; first we need to start to think about what kind of future we would like for ourselves and to pass on to the next generation, and then we need to know what decisions we need to make today that will give the best result in the future.

Will we ever get those flying cars in the future I saw in pictures as a kid?
Flying cars is an example of a scenario that has been pictured for the future for a long time. It is a great and exciting concept, but is it realistic? To start with we must find out if there’s a basic need for it, what are the pros and cons. Then we have to think about the system we have today, cars going on the ground, and the transition to a new system. To make it work in this example we need two parallel systems, with a road network for the flying cars simultaneousely as the common road network. Even if the flying cars are improved to be suitable for city traffic, the investments would be huge for a city to implement this, as well as for households to get that extra vehicle. So even if all the pros are there the practical steps for such a new route is too hard to overcome, so I’m sorry, there will be no road network for flying cars in the next 50 years.

How about the virtual worlds, do I need to go on vacation in the future or just have all the cells in my body experience an artificial vacation?
It might be possible in the future to experience the sand between your toes, feel the salt from the ocean on your lips, hear the waves and smell the seaweed, just lying in your bed at home. But we will not be able to fool the mind in the way that no matter how real the experience will feel, you will always know that it haven’t happen for real. That will make all the difference. You can tell people today that you have seen the pyramids in Egypt because you have seen a picture of them, but you will never get the feeling of being there. So, even if a great invention is there for an affordable price, it will never replace the common experience if it is not genuine.

Please tell me we will get in contact with some aliens in the near future...
It is most likely that there are other life in the Universe considered there are billion solar systems. In the aspect that our solar system is about 4.6 billion years, other civilisations could be 10 million or even 1 billion years ahead of us. With these numbers in mind there is no greater chance that they will make contact with us within the next 50 years than in 100,000 years, and with the size of the Universe we will not likely be able to make any contact with them during this time.

So what will the future look like then?
What we will see in the next 50 years is the transition from an oil-dependent society, new medicine, the first steps in the development of artificial intelligence, continued exploration of space, more people to die from AIDS, hopefully a better state for the poor people in the world, challenges in the climate change, and new inventions that make life a little easier and entertaining for some.

How should I do then to make the future great?
Well, as you know the winner in life is not the one with the most money when he dies, the winner is the person who sleeps best at night. To feel good about yourself and the people around you, listen to them and show them the love and respect they deserve as fellow human beings and help those in need. That is what will matter when you go to bed at night in 50 years from now, and hopefully will give you a good night’s sleep.
