Snappy Dresser was born out of the idea of a wardrobe that doesn’t act only as a piece of furniture but also a smart home appliance. Living in a small space can be a bit challenging to some people, however organizing small living space can be easily done if you know how. One of clever tricks to make your small living space feels more spacious is by having objects that serve multiple functions. Snappy Dresser rejects the idea of a wardrobe as a mere piece of furniture, it takes traditional wardrobe to a new level via cutting edge technology that offers a wide range of functions.

Have you ever had a problem when choosing what to wear for a particular event? Well, we think most of us do. We just simply stand in front of our wardrobes, imagining would this outfit look good on us for the special occasion. Snappy Dresser addresses this problem by giving suggestions based on user’s history. The system is able to mix and match clothes styles and functions needed for any context. Snappy Dresser utilizes RFID tags to recognize user’s clothes where all information such as brand, material, color, etc. are kept to later be used to suggest the outfits to its users.

The main feature of Snappy Dresser would be virtual rehearsing of clothes. Before deciding which outfit to wear, user will have the ability to see how he or she will look in that outfit without actually having to wear it. In this way, user will have the ability to try many combinations of clothes without having to take all clothes out of the wardrobe. For this feature to work, Snappy Dresser will have to get input from 3D scanner of user’s body measurements. In fact, user can also take feedbacks and advices from friends as this futuristic wardrobe can also connect its user to the internet.

A prayer rug is a small and portable carpet that Muslims put on the floor when they perform their prayers. Its main function is to provide a clean and isolated platform for the prayer. With the specific patterns on its surface, it also aims to bring the atmosphere of a mosque to wherever they take it.

Muslims pray five times a day. The only product they need to perform their prayers is a prayer rug. And there is one thing they need to be careful about: the holy city of Mecca a” the direction towards which they should perform their prayers.

As one of the main aims of a~Sajjadah 1426′ was to emphasize the values of the patterns on the prayer rug, lighting those patterns up was considered as the main approach from the very first stages of the concept. There were several technology alternatives to achieve this effect: mini LEDs, fibre optics, EL wire embroidery and EL panel. After the experiments done, the most appropriate one turned out to be the Electro Luminescent Phosphore Printing technology. EL wire embroidery has also been explored during the research part and a~mini glow wire’ was ordered from the UK-based company Surelight Ltd.

‘Sajjadah 1426′ indicates the direction via the data coming from a compass module embedded inside it. The closer to the direction of Mecca it is turned, the brighter the patterns illuminate.

‘Sajjadah 1426′ enriches the praying experience with the illuminated patterns on its surface. The word ‘sajjadah’ is a Persian/Turkish word meaning ‘prayer rug’ and the number ’1426′ stands for ’2005′ in Islamic calendar.

The touch sensitive panel on the table lets you watch TV, listen to the music or surf internet with the touch of a finger. You can use USB-card if you want to open your file or save any information while working on the touchscreen computer. Though the cabin just measures one meter in length, but you can regulate the slope of the chair back to work or stretch your body in comfort.

It reminds of a desk I saw in The Island. Some of you might not remember this film, because it was an intelligent Michael Bay film that didn’t involve giant robots beating each other up. I believe that the villain in The Island had a desk with projections, and he even had Ewan McGregor draw on it with a virtual stylus. Ever thought that one day you’ll be cooking on a device just like a table cloth inside your house or even outside, in your very own backyard? This ingenious cooking device, was designed by Sara Laczo, a young designer from Hungary. Being a product oriented to Philips’s design language, Sara had to create a feminine, simple and natural shape, but not too futuristic. It’s very interesting that from all the cooking accessories that are present in an everyday kitchen, Sara picked up the table cloth for her inspiration. The simple shape of the table cloth and its ability to be spread on a table, were the starting points. The Magic Table, as the designer named it, is composed of layers, stacked one on top of the other to create the perfect cooking tool. It has an edge that can light up to interact with the user. When the light is red the magic table is switched on, the light is blue when the product is on, but the cooking surface is not hot and when the light turns orange the product is warm, but the cooking surface is touchable.

Around this lighted edge, the designer has fitted a tangible edge. This has been colored in oxide green to create a contrast and is made from PVC or silicone. Cooking on the table magic is like having a mobile kitchen which you can push in the backyard to cook on a sunny day. The next layers are the Teflon coating and the heaters. The Teflon ensures that the food won’t stick to the surface making it easier to clean. The heaters are made from silicone and are arranged in such a way that can be heated up separately. The operating temperature is up to 260 degrees Celsius, pretty awesome for a 1,5 mm thick heater. The wire grid is built in the insulation, this insulation is a silicon foam and has a grid etched in its surface for the wire grid to fit perfectly.Going further though the layers, we find the Teflon insulation. This is the most important part of the device, as this gives it the ability to be folded or bended. The device has attached on one of the corners an operational panel. This panel can be fitted when the user wants to use the device and remove it after he/she has done cooking. The panel has a touch screen interface so the user can easily adjust the time and temperature.

The always present in a contemporary kitchen, the table cloth, has been redesigned and given a new role. Sara also won the second prize given by Philips Design Department in Amsterdam, Holland with the Table Magic, design that was submitted to the Quick and Healthy Cooking category.
