After being on hiatus for so long, I’ve decided to close out this podcast with the last episode being our monumental chat with Dan Shotz, Robert Levine, and the leaders of the Jericho fandom. I’ll keep the podcast feed up, as well as the site, so that new Jericho fans can enjoy the discussion and interviews herein.

We understand that the extreme wait betweenissues is worse than a season-ending cliffhanger, but we want you allto know that it is still currently being worked on and will soon be inthe hands of all of you that have stuck with Jericho.We know the fans and the show (& book) have been through a lot and asmost of you know, Devil’s Due has also undergone some changes since wefirst put out issues 1 – 3 of the series. Most notably our split fromthe comic distribution company, Diamond Comics.So while we may not have definitive dates and we can’t say too much atthis point, we are working closely with CBS and you will most likely behearing something from them very soon. It appears that DDP is continuing to help work with CBS to get thecomic out sooner rather than later. It was nice to see Michael Gaston (who is, to me, a mix of J.K. Simmons and David Koechner) appear as the elusive Donald Bloom, though I couldn’t help but think of his role on Fringe every time I saw him, possibly because he was a high-ranking government agent in both roles. He was solid in the role, though, which probably explains why he’s twice had such a role.

The Daily Show” to Tape at D.C.’s Shakespeare Theatre Company in October
Washington politics, theatre and television should mix in a lively mish-mash when “The Daily Show with John Stewart” tapes four episodes at The Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Sidney Harman Hall this October. The episodes will air Oct. 25-28 at 11 PM ET on Comedy Central.

“The Daily Show” is taping at the Shakespeare Theatre as part of its “Indecision 2010″ coverage of the midterm elections. The show has traditionally left its usual Manhattan taping studio for “Indecision” coverage of both the national party conventions and of midterm elections. The show previously taped episodes in Washington during the 2002 midterms.

“The Daily Show” is hosted by Jon Stewart, and its team of reporters include stage vets Samantha Bee (Love, Loss and What I Wore) and Aasif Mandvi (Oklahoma!, Homebody/Kabul), in addition to Wyatt Cenac, Jason Jones and John Oliver.

Law and Order: Los Angeles: The pitch: In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate but equally important groups. That show was awesome. However, they’ve now cancelled the original and kept all the crap it left in its wake.
My take: While I usually try to avoid ripping the LAO SVU faithful (they are almost as vicious as the NCIS posse), I can’t help myself. Each spinoff got worse. I will say that L.A. is a nice touch and I am more optimistic about this one than all the others combined. This show hinges on one good smartass cop and one cut throat district attorney. I will reserve judgment until I see the cast in a preview, which I can’t find, but Skeet Ulrich is playing a detective (can’t see him being funny but he was great in Jericho) and Oscar nominee Terrance Howard will be deputy D.A.
Competition: The Whole Truth, The Defenders.

Undercovers: The pitch: The official pitch…….a sexy, fun, action-packed spy drama that proves once and for all that marriage is still the world’s most dangerous partnership (Read: Mr. and Mrs. Smith, with black people).
My take: I’ve put a positive spin on too many NBC shows – but this sorry excuse for television, not so much.
Supporting cast shoutout: The lone bright spot is Gerald McRaney (Johnston Green from Jericho, George Hearst in Deadwood, and of course, Major Dad).
Competition: Survivor, America’s Next Top Model, Lie to Me.

Each week, alongside the publication of the newest JEBS announcement, will be a short “Jericho Bulletin” episode of the podcast. This will cover pertinent items as put forth in the JEBS announcements, for our listeners who may not get the information any other way. This will be a weekly installment, and as such, our news segment may mostly disappear from our main show.

What about our main show, you ask? We’re shifting that about, too. In order to accommodate busy schedules and the amount of audio editing that goes into every podcast episode, we’re going to shift our main episodes to once a month. This will give us time to produce a longer podcast that maintains the quality we want to strive for, but allows us time to do so with our busy lives.

We hope you, our listeners, will enjoy and appreciate the change in format, and we can’t wait to continue spreading on the Jericho goodness! We’ve got some great things planned for upcoming episodes, so stay tuned!

We believe that we will be getting some type of announcement at Comic Con regarding Jericho’s future. We all need to be patient and let’s see what news will come out at the end of July. The producers and DDP went silent with communication immediately after Wondercon, back in April. Prior to that we had been communicating with them very frequently. When we kept pushing them for a release date the tfaw website link appeared on the Save Jericho Facebook Page.

Ratkeeper will be at Comic Con in July, manning the Jericho Fan table, with 3 other Rangers. We will get live updates.

DB Sweeney’s (John Goetz) online web series “Universal Dead” launches first episode

Universal Dead (UnDead for short) started out as a movie idea that was kicked around for a while by Vernon Mortensen and Kelly Parks.  The original idea was to make it into a feature film and distribute it through Unconventional Films’ sister company, Rogue Arts.

In the mean time, Kelly and Vernon, along with their business partner Neil Trusso, began production on Unconventional Films’ first web series, “The Crusader,” starring Stargate SG-1’s Colin Cunningham and featuring Star Trek Enterprise’s Gary Graham.

Then one day Kelly wrote a short film called “The Presentation,”  which took some of the ideas for Universal Dead and melded them together with Kelly’s theory about how zombies function (”It’s not a virus!”) and suddenly Universal Dead the web series was born.

Skeet Ulrich’s (Jake Green) new show not on CBS’ schedule yet but there is still hope

The show, starring Sissy Spacek, Rachelle Lefevre and Skeet Ulrich, was produced by “ER” producer John Wells. Despite that pedigree, CBS apparently wasn’t impressed enough with the show, which follows a team of doctors who travel around the country helping in emergencies.

A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind and water. Hello Fellow Rangers

We have been hearing from many Fans via email, on Facebook and Twitter, exactly how the comic sales are going. We reached out to Dan Shotz and he sent us a response.

Dan Shotz email: 01/21/2010

“There will be more comics after the first chapter… we are trying to build a story structure with the comic that will lend itself to be the plot of a movie down the road.”

“And btw, the first issue – the distributor had a sell out of all three covers… the books are doing great. Good sign. The fandom wants more… so we are working hard to keep it alive.”

We also have heard that the international carrier of the comic has sold out of issue 1 and issue 2 which is great news for the continuation of Jericho.

We continue to see things happening with Epix, several of the major carriers will be starting to carry Epix starting in early April. We also have noticed that Jericho episodes have been removed from Youtube, Netflix and most importantly CBS.com itself, only Season 2 with commentary remains. We feel that this may be tied into Epix as we do not know why they would pull Season 1 from CBS.com as they own the website and the product.

We need to continue to purchase the comics and keep Jericho in the Face of the bean counters at CBS. The fact that CBS has approved more comics after the first chapter is key.

As I have said for almost 2 years this is a long marathon and not a sprint and we need to Keep the Faith.

John Stahl is no stranger to Future Traditions listeners, having been interviewed in Episode 10. In this article, he speaks to why he feels that Jericho as a television series is so interesting, saying,

“This reminded me of a camp counselor telling me more than 30 years ago that she did not watch television because the people that she knew were more interesting than those who were on television. I would say that this is true of the majority of modern television programs, but that I would love to have a beer with most of the “Jericho” characters and that this group has more “goodness” in them than a large portion of the population in which I would place myself.”

“Turtletaub’s comments could simply mean he’s pondering the idea and thinking of scenarios for the movie. At best, he’s in discussions with other Jericho producers and talking to potential studios. Either way, it’s too early to start accepting a Jericho movie as reality.” – Tim Surette
