Thinking about that Ryu vs Sagat diorama

Been thinking about you ever since I saw you at the toy store...

SEXY. Unfortunately 500 SGD bucks isnt so easy for me to fork out for a diorama so I have to think twice. And Ive been thinking HARD about it. If I get my bonus salary at the end of this month, I would most definitely bring this piece home and shower tender loving attention on a daily basis.

Im a bit slow on this piece, seems like it was released back in jan this year. Limited to 400 pcs worldwide and standing at 19.5" tall, this Ryu vs Sagat diorama from Pop Culture Shock Collectibles is like every SF fan's wet dream (me included). Only complaint is that Sagat looks abit stiff, but then again he's probably in shock from getting shoryuken-ed and getting a nice oblique scar across his chest and abdominal wall.

Haven't been to Statue Forum for some time, saw this stunning 1:2 scale Incredible Hulk.

Man Im loving those weathered jeans. I think the sculptor has a couple of these up on E bay, including a purple pants version. It's 1:2 so its a pretty damn big Hulk you'd be paying for.

Don't you just want to pick this predator up and cuddle? Adorable - that's the word to describe him with the puppy eyes, until u pry off the mask to reveal the typical ugly predator face.

What's a Venomsaurus

WTF is a Venomsaurus - that was the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw the teaser on Sideshow's website a couple of weeks ago. They've just released some new pictures of this new statue up for pre orders. I did some research, and apparently, it's off a Marvel spinoff called Old Man Logan. The Venom symbiote spies on Logan bonds with a T-rex (awesomeness!) and pursues him.

Not sure how well this statue will sell though.

Idonkeyphone DIY iPhone Dock

This is awesome.. A DIY miniature model of a Donkey Kong arcade machine that not only looks aesthetically pleasing but also doubles up as an iPhone dock. They should build plastic replicas of this thing - Im loving the idea and the graphics.

Not liking that Prince of Persia Statue

Sideshow's new Premium Format Dastan from Disney's latest Flopbuster Prince of Persia. I can't deny I enjoyed the show, though not as much as I expected to. Seems like the movie's getting some pretty nasty reviews out there. But anyway, Im definitely not loving the statue of Dastan. On top of an awkward pose, blank drugged out stare, it's got a hefty price tag of 300 USD slapped on top of it.

The details are this figure's saving grace, I sure hope the paint job holds in mass production. Bleeding paints would be the last thing you would want to see on top of Dastan's armour.

Hot Toys Iron Man Mark V sneak peek

Saw this on the SGcollect forums today.. Couldnt imagine Hot Toys pulling it off given the complexity of the suit, but it looks pretty awesome so far! The only complaint I have is that the suit appears more scalloped, like scales in the real version in the movie:

While the sculpt shown above seems to have the scales appear as grooves in the armour. It's too small to judge and perhaps I may be wrong. Anyhow, Hot Toys nearly always delivers the good stuff (except maybe the whole issue with the BD Ironman head sculpt).
Ive watched the video below about a hundred and times and still, its awesome.

Hot toys War Machine

This is an absolutely STUNNING piece from Hot toys. A 1/6th scale (12 inch tall) replica of War Machine from Iron Man 2. The pics are enough to get my salivating. I've already made my pre order 2 months ago with the shops and its taking forever to arrive. Hot toys has a bad habit of teasing us. I may even buy 2 of these just because it looks so awesome.

Some specs off the Hot Toys website:

- Over 36 points of articulations
- Movable and detachable parts on shoulder and waist

Probably not for the faint hearted. Another crazily complex paper model that would probably take up days of handling tiny bits of paper and attempting to spread glue with trembling hands. Castle Crashers Papercraft

My friends on Xbox Live have been bugging me to play this game, but I'm too lazy/broke to force myself to buy some Microsoft points to purchase this. Apart from the fact that everyone is raving about how fun this game is, the little knights also make some excellent paper models. I swear I was staring at the Castle Crashers banner and thinking that those little buggers would be perfect for card modelling.

Paper Hellboy Samaritan

I had no idea the Japanese dig Hellboy, but anyway, this Japanese dude has made a paper replica for the Samaritan.

Very detailed as you can see, even loadable with papercraft bullets lol. A well designed model, no doubt coming from the Japanese. Personally, I would give it some puttying and a paint job to get get rid of those irritating white lines that come with all paper models. But hey, one of the upsides of paper models is that you get to print the designs on. Most kids just print, some adults do paint so it all depends on how far you want to take it.

My Starkiller Sculpt Part I

Have you heard? Star Wars: The Force Unleashed got released today. Gaming critics hate it, but everyone else thinks it kicks ass, me included. However, I'm not getting it just of yet because I completed the demo freakin 20 over times and now Im officially bored of toying with Storm Troopers and flinging them into deep space.

So... I've been sculpting Darth Vader's Secret apprentice aka Star Killer for some time, on and off... here's the progress so far:

This baby's 1/6th scale and gonna be 12" tall. I hardly work in any other scales now... Think the chin needs some elongation, but I swear it looks better in real life. Might be the camera angle.

Storm Trooper heads make good designer papercraft

Wow, this has got to be the sweetest designer papercraft project I've seen! Some Jap guy had the brilliantest idea of taking a storm trooper helmet and transforming it into a skinnable toy. The result = a cool library of Storm Trooper helmet skins that'll look extremely cool on any Star Wars fans' desk.

What makes this project even more awesome is that, the template isn't based off polygons that are unrefined and untweaked. Instead, you'll notice that it's actually pretty well designed, making use of the curves of paper to achieve the contouring of the helmet, rather than polygons.

Retro Gaming Stuff in paper

From Paper 2.0 comes these nifty little gadgetry from your distant childhood memories - old school Gameboy modules and stuff from the very first 3D FPS ever built - Wolfenstein 3D.

I thought these were pretty cool (heck, everything retrogaming looks cool these days), even though they're pretty simple to build.

Sideshow King Leonidas from 300

Wooooo~ This looks freakin sweet, trashes the NECA action figurine that can't even balance itself on my desk.

I can't decide if the second row of abs look normal, or abnormal. They look a teeny weeny bit over split, like Leonidas has some sort of abdominal wall hernia. Also, the nips and umbilicus make a sad face lol. If you stare at it for too long, the abs really start to grow on you.

The pose also looks a tad effeminate, like Leonidas is having some sort of mega wedgie, but overall, this is still a great statue to have if you're a 300 fan like me.

Freakin beautiful DC character sculpts

Saw this over at Shiflett Brothers and ConceptArt, done by the same sculptor, Tim Bruckner. Think they are absolutely stunning, tasteful takes on DC characters Penguin and Catwoman.

It's really nice how he's so daring on adding the skin folds onto the face, yet able to achieve such a nice sneering effect.

Catwoman just looks subtlely playful:

Good God, while professional sculptors like these focus on bringing out expressions and emotions, I'm still stuck on getting a simple good looking sculpt that looks proportionate. PRACTICE.

Also, a friend of mine remarked this morning how interesting it was that villains from the Batman series all had some kind of psychiatric background to their behaviour. Catwoman is probably a kleptomaniac, Joker is probably someone with an antisocial personality disorder with an appetite for chaos. And Two Face is likely a bipolar rapid cycler or multiple personality disorder, and Penguin is just fat and ugly lol.
