<itunes:summary>This episode of fyi: health marcomms focuses on a bread and butter topic for people in the health marketing and communications industry: writing. A poor writer is a substandard communicator. Luckily, there are experts like Meredith Gould, PhD with years of experience available to help health organizations and individuals in health become better writers.

We were inspired to contact Gould after seeing an interview focusing on her published in Ragan's Health Care Communications News in late 2011. In it she offers tips on how to write content that captures attention, reassures and has impact. She was kind enough to expand on her writing tips in this podcast.

As a sociologist and working writer, Gould has been focusing on health writing related to patient education and empowerment since 1990. With decades of research, editorial, and strategic communications experience she offers insight into the effectiveness of writing in a friendlier tone, time saving and clarity tips for the writer and what to do when it comes to social media; all related to health marketing.

For more information about Gould's work please visit her online at www.meredithgould.com or follower her on Twitter: @MeredithGould.

<itunes:summary>This episode of fyi: health marcomms marks the third of a special series of podcasts dedicated to the innovators who participated in our most recent unNiched(micro) event which was titled Scratch, Sniff & Learn. unNiched(micro) is a breakfast series dedicated to knowledge sharing among professionals, students, and educators within the health marketing communications industry.

Scratch, Sniff & Learn was designed to showcase innovations in health marketing communications. Seven organizations presented recently developed innovations designed to advance mobile health, public health, gamification in healthcare, and more.

Attendees were then able to experience (or scratch and sniff) these innovations first-hand during the event. Instrat Global Health Solutions and The Anadach Group have come together to create One World Dr., a mobile health based platform which continuously monitors patient conditions and then provides specific tools for physicians and medical workers to respond appropriately to the patient's needs via SMS technology. The idea behind this platform is to not only encourage positive health behavior change in the patient, but also manage the patient's conditions before they become emergent. Through sending a simple text message to One World Dr., patients can ask questions and monitor health conditions in an easy and effective manner. The platform is currently being used in Nigeria and will soon expand to other countries throughout Africa.

In this podcast interview I discuss the project with Okey Okuzu, Founder and CEO of InStrat Global Health Solutions. Okey provides insight into the back story of creating One World Dr., specific accomplishments the project has seen thus far and his ideas for expanding One World Dr. in the future.

<itunes:summary>This episode of fyi: health marcomms marks the second of a special series of podcasts we'll be posting over the next few weeks. The series is dedicated to the innovators who participated in our most recent unNiched(micro) event. unNiched(micro) is a breakfast series dedicated to knowledge sharing among professionals, students, and educators within the health marketing communications industry.

In October we hosted a special unNiched(micro) event, Scratch, Sniff & Learn. The event was designed to showcase innovations in health marketing communications. Seven organizations presented recently developed innovations designed to advance mobile health, public health, gamification in healthcare, and more. Attendees were then able to experience (or scratch and sniff) these innovations first-hand during the event.

Today's podcast feature's Michael Spitz of Ignite Health. In this episode Michael discusses the gamification of healthcare and how gamifying tasks that seem tedious, boring or repetitive can improve health and wellness. He points out that adding engaging and competitive components into day-to-day health activities can enhance game users' health. Gamifiying health is becoming increasingly common as products are developed for both mobile devices and computers. During this podcast Michael discusses successful examples of health gamification such as Ben's Game, Fit Bit and Wii Fit.

<itunes:summary>This episode of fyi: health marcomms marks the first of a special series of podcasts we'll be posting over the next few weeks.

Today's podcast features Ubiqi Health, a company developing patient assistance and educational mobile applications. At Scratch, Sniff and Learn, they featured their flagship mobile application designed to help migraine patients track their triggers, medications, diet and treatment strategies.

<itunes:summary>Earlier this year Andre Blackman, began implementing an idea he had for a film festival dedicated to refreshing the ongoing conversation regarding the past, present and future of public health. Less than a year later his brainchild is being born. Tonight marks the inaugural Fast Forward Health film festival in Washington, D.C.

This episode of fyi: health marcomms features a conversation with Andre and David Haddad, co-founder of the film festival. We discuss the impetus for the film festival, key topics the films being screened tonight will address and other details about the event.

While the event is sold out, keep your eyes open for a Fast Forward Health festival near you soon. We have a feeling that this event in DC will be the first of many.

Here at The Path of the Blue Eye we're longtime supporters of innovation in public health and communications. To access some of the knowledge we've published on our wiki and social news site over the years, please click here.

Today’s edition of fyi: health marcomms marks another very special edition of a new series we’re producing focusing on advanced marketing and measurement techniques. In today's installment, we conclude our series of interviews with Nedra Weinreich, noted social marketing and social media expert, who works with a range of non-profits and government agencies to foster positive health behaviors and social change.

This podcast focuses on alternate reality games as well as Nedra’s perspective on the difficulty of both attracting appropriate audience participation and measuring the effectiveness of transmedia storytelling.

Bonus: Experience transmedia storytelling by reading the Path of the Blue Eye Project's (first-ever) graphic novel for health marketing communications professionals.

Today’s edition of fyi: health marcomms marks another very special edition of a new series we’re producing focusing on advanced marketing and measurement techniques. In today's installment, we continue our series of interviews with Nedra Weinreich, noted social marketing and social media expert, who works with a range of non-profits and government agencies to foster positive health behaviors and social change.

In this interview, Weinreich expands on her remarks regarding transmedia storytelling, which is defined as “a process where integral elements of a fiction get dispersed systematically across multiple delivery channels for the purpose of creating a unified and coordinated entertainment experience.” Stay tuned for additional installments of our interview series focusing on transmedia.
