May 2010 Prayer Update

Just getting ready to send out our Spring 2010 newsletter but just in case I don't get it done before June 1st . . . we really wanted to get the following prayer requests out to you:

1. Please pray for our 2010 Conference for ministry leaders here in Manila - June 1, 2 & 3. Pastor Rick Holland from Grace Church is flying out to be our Keynote Speaker. Others from California are also joining us to be special break-out session leaders, including Dr. Lisa LaGeorge and Pastor Felix Ballon (he is already here. LIsa will be flying into Manila this Saturday).

- for God to continue to bring in the registrations in advance, so that the morning of the conference things will go smoothly.
- for God's hand on the continual planning for the conference (yes-it is still going on every minute! from snacks, to time schedules, to handouts, etc.)
- for the speakers to faithfully finalize their presentations to bless the delegates and glorify our God
- for travel safety, not only for our speakers, but for our delegates. At this point we have more than 300 coming from outside of Manila (traveling by boat, plane, train, and bus-rides from hours away).
- PRAISE GOD for the 650 delegates he has made known to us so far. We have facilities to accommodate 1000+ and we trust Him to bring as many as He moves.
- PRAISE GOD for the many volunteers he has called to serve (more than 50 from our host church, Greenhills Christian Fellowship - this is many times more volunteers than last year)
- PRAISE GOD for providing sponsorships for the hundreds of delegates who cannot afford the $7 (aprox) conference fee. It is a thrill to see Him provide donations from within the local Church Body here in The Philippines.
-PRAISE GOD for enabling us to get a website up for the conference with online registration, and for getting people to begin to use it.
-PRAISE GOD for the donations of materials such as clothing, books, and food from organizations such as Grace Church, Action International, CSM, among a few.

2. Please pray for our family as we prepare to leave for the U.S. on June 7th.

-The kids are still finishing up school (finals for the big boys!) and
- we are busy with the conference, house guests, and packing

3. Please pray for the continued healthy pregnancy for Jessica, now 7 weeks away from our due date!

- She sprained her ankle a couple of weeks ago, but praise God she is doing better
- She is also scheduled to speak during two break-out sessions for the ladies at the conference
- She will be giving birth (Lord willing) sometime around July 19th

4. Please pray for Sean as he wraps up his TMAI classes and prepares for the conference.

- He and Felix Ballon are teaching a one week module (all day, each day until Friday) right now.
- Sean and Felix are also each scheduled to teach twice during the conference
- Pray that when we are in the States, Sean will be able to dedicate time to working on his Doctoral requirements as he has planned.

5. Please CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR OUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT. We are still critically under-supported and at this point, we do not have the tuition yet for our children to continue enrollment at Faith Academy in August when we return to Manila. We trust God completely to work this all out, and that He will build our support team according to His own will and perfect plan.

On August 27-29 we participated in our 3rd annual Shepherd’s Conference which was sponsored by our partners the PETRA foundation and Greenhills Christian Fellowship. After going to the Shepherd’s Conference at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley California earlier this year, our team from PETRA/GCF was full of ideas to enhance the conference here in the Philippines. Over 650 ministers enjoyed three days of hearing God’s Word being preached and break out sessions on various topics including expository preaching, local church ministry, conflict resolution, missions, ministry to the poor, and three sessions for women taught by my beautiful wife Jessica Ransom. She will also do a follow up class on parenting using the book “Shepherding the heart of a child.”

I taught on preaching and interpreting the Bible to a few hundred eager ministers and will follow up the conference with two 14 week classes on those topics. I spent time with them showing them how to discover the main idea of the original author and encouraging them to proclaim that rather than focusing on what people want to hear. Several of them shared their appreciation for what they had learned and expressed their desire to enroll in our TMAI classes to learn more.

A few things that we learned and implemented from Grace Community Church's Shepherd's Conference were getting members of the church involved in serving and supporting the conference. Members helped provide food, rides, clothing, medical/dental/vision care as well as serving at the conference. Elder Mike Asperin taught on ministering to the military and elder Dan Cura taught on Worship, while pastor B.J. Sebastian taught on preaching

Other speakers for the conference included TMS graduate Roger Ng from Singapore and Pastor Chris Chia (also from Singapore). Pastor Chris taught on 1 Timothy 2 regarding the walk of a christian leader and Pastor Roger taught on confronting false doctrine and preaching with passion and purpose.

It was an added joy to see several of our friends and students at the conference and the joy that they were experiencing as the fellowshipped, worshiped, are were further equipped for ministry.

Pastor Ogie and Gina suffered a tragedy a few months ago and we were eager to minister to them at the conference and into the future. Click here to read their story. Join us in praying for the many ministers who attended this conference. Pray that would continue to fell refreshed, challenged and encouraged in the Lord. Also pray that God would continue to build them up and that He would gain more glory as they grow in their passion and abilities to teach God's people and make Him known.
