Yes people the king is back! The man who only needs one name, Steven, is back amongst us once more with a new album, new single and more chances to see him in the flesh.
Morrissey has announced three UK live dates for May 2009 when he will play London’s Royal Albert Hall on the 11th and two nights at Manchester’s Apollo on 22nd and 23rd.

Tickets for all three shows went on sale today, Friday 5th December, at 10am (see ticket info below).

Morrissey’s new studio album “Years of Refusal” will be released on 16th February 2009 on Polydor/Decca, preceded by the single “I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris” one week prior. The single will be supported by two new songs “Because Of My Poor Education” and “Shame Is The Name”, the latter featuring additional vocals by Chrissie Hynde.

“Years of Refusal” was completed earlier this year at Conway Studios in LA with the late Jerry Finn, producer of Morrissey’s acclaimed 2004 UK No.2 album “You Are The Quarry”. Morrissey describes the new album, the follow up to 2006’s “Ringleader of The Tormentors” (a UK No.1), as his strongest work to date. The 12-track album includes a clutch of new songs played live in recent months including “I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris”, “Something Is Squeezing My Skull”, “Mama Lay Softly On The Riverbed” and “One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell”.

THE HOOKHAM BOYS: THE SUPEREST OF SUPER GROUPS

Some of Britain's indie royalty, with members from bands such as Massive Attack, Spiritualized, Suede, Placebo, Goldfrapp and Echo & Bunnymen will form a Supergroup called the Hookham Boys for a forthcoming charity gig.
They will play at new venue The Library on Upper Street. It promises to be a unique performance with a healthy dose of Countrybilly and a sprinkle of Johnny Cash. A line-up not to be missed:

The Fratellis will DJ at the Little Noise Sessions closing party following their performance on Tuesday 18th November and entry is by donation to MENCAP.

The party will round-up the series of events organised by Radio 1's Jo Whiley and MENCAP and will be held at new Islington venue, The Library, situated opposite the Union Chapel on Upper Street.

The night will also feature an auction of signed memorabilia, hosted by The Sun's Gordon Smart, proceedings from which will go to MENCAP; and a DJ set by Robbie Knox (Soccer AM, Channel B).

RIZLA PLAN BIG BASH FOR THE INVISIBLE PLAYERS

It’s been another big year for the Rizla Invisible Players and to round off this year’s tour, a big night is being plotted in the Capital. On Friday 14th November, ‘The Rizla End of Year Party’ is set to go off at East Village, Shoreditch, London. The 2008 tour has played host to such legends as Graeme Park, Hot Chip and Maurice Fulton, and the line-up for this shindig promises to close the year off in true banging style.
In the main room, getting proceedings underway are much-hyped London pair Heartbreak who’ll be treating us to a rare DJ set. Fusing the modernity of electro with the melodic drama of early 80s Italo Disco, their powerful synth-pop has been described by Vice magazine as “how the ’80s would sound today if the ’90s hadn’t got in the way”.

East Village resident and part of London’s legendary Faith collective, Stuart Patterson, will take over the controls ensuring the dancefloor is in top gear for the arrival of Chicago house legend Derrick Carter. Derrick, an internationally recognised big hitter and one of the pinnacles of the 90’s House scene, will get pulses racing as he brings the party to a close.

Upstairs, two of London’s legendary record labels go head to head as Heavenly Jukebox jump into the booth alongside the boys from 1965 Records.

Next up are a massively popular Dundee based DJ duo, Autodisco DJ’s who played the Rizla Arena at Rockness Festival packing the dancefloor to capacity. Headlining upstairs will be electrofunk maestro and Invisible Player Greg Wilson with his unique rare edits and samples.

Greg Wilson had this to say: "It's been a really incredible year, the whole tour generated such energy and positivity, culminating in the massive mudfest that was Bestival! I can't wait to round things off with this big London finale, and look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces out on the dancefloor.”

THREATMANTICS TALES OF UPBEAT LOVE

Threatmantics are a rock and roll band. They are not quite like other rock and roll bands. This is mainly and probably due to their lead guitar being a viola and their drummer and keyboardist being the same person. At the same time.

Heddwyn and Huw (brothers) hail from the Neath Valley in South Wales, Ceri hails from Hertfordshire. They met in a lay-by on the A470 and decided almost immediately that they should, at the very least cut each other’s hair….and then form a band. Sometimes… that’s just how it happens.

And this is how it all came out in the wash:

They have released two singles so far (Don’t Care - on the Ciwdod label - and Sali Mali - on AM) telling tales of ugly, lovely, dirty places and thoughts of joy, unruly body-hair and the sweet consolation of loose-fitting trousers.

Originally a demo, then an EP, then a mini-album, Upbeat Love sure has grown up fast. From the lusty conception, the excitement of the birth, the awkward adolescence to now - finally leaving the nest to find a new home in other people's homes. After a lengthy delivery, spread over three separate sessions, all present were pleased with the result – a short, sharp 8-track album packed to the brim with skuzzy, mind-blowing rock and roll.

It’s been a busy year for Threatmantics who have performed at Glastonbury, Green Man and End Of The Road Festivals, and have toured with the likes of Euros Childs, Clinic and Times New Viking. The band will perform at Concrete and Glass at the Vibe Bar on Friday 3rd October as well as various other live dates throughout the month, and have just been invited again by Clinic to open up for them on their November tour. SELFISH C**T are releasing the single ENGLAND MADE ME II from the hotly anticipated album, English Chamber Music, with a full UK tour beginning at the end of November. Their come back this summer was blisteringly hot as they packed venues including London’s ominous 100 Club.

ENGLAND MADE ME II tells of the self-destructive tendencies of those who feel politically impotent, unable to take out their aggression on the powers that be. It’s intensity batters through from the opening riff to the last breath.

The album, ENGLISH CHAMBER MUSIC, is a thorn in the flesh of UK’s current music scene and reinstates the band as a force to be reckoned with. Bringing a rhythm section on board in the shape of Joao Pires (drums) and Matthew Saw (Bass), has helped refine and tighten their sound. Singer Martin Tomlinson exercises complete lyrical indulgence while Patrick Constable, freed from the drum machine, is enabled to express himself fully on guitar. The band has hit upon a new strength in song-writing and ambition.

With tours scheduled for the UK, Japan and Europe in the coming months, the future is far from quiet in Cunt Camp. Frothing at the mouth, hungrier than ever, SELFISH CUNT are back. Deal with it.

Bad news unfortunately, Jim from My Morning Jacket has been injured and this has forced the band to cancel upcoming European tour dates. Here is the official statement from the band.

"It is with great regret that we have to announce the cancellation of My Morning Jacket's up-coming tour to Europe due to injuries suffered by Jim James in Iowa City. For the fans who have purchased tickets, we would like to extend our gratitude for your support and understanding. Our hope was to merely postpone the tour, but as our scheduling does not allow that to happen in the immediate future, we feel it is best to cancel this tour in hopes of re-scheduling at some point. RAY LAMONTAGNE ANNOUNCES FULL UK TOUR FOR FEBRUARY 2009

Ray LaMontagne has announced an 11-date headline tour of the UK through February 2009, commencing at the Opera House in York on February 7 and including London's Barbican on February 15.

The news follows the UK release of Ray LaMontagne's highly anticipated third album Gossip In The Grain through 14th Floor Records on 13 October. To coincide with the tour, the album's opening track 'You Are The Best Thing' will be given a full single release on 23 February 2009.

Recorded with returning producer, Ethan Johns in Box, England, and touching upon a range of styles and musical settings Gossip In The Grain proves to be LaMontagne's most creative and emotionally expansive collection to date. Whereas LaMontagne's two previous albums, Trouble and Till The Sun Turns Black, were largely solo affairs, with Johns serving as multi-tasking instrumentalist, Gossip In The Grain sees him joined by members of his touring band, bassist Jennifer Condos and guitarist Eric Heywood (with Johns largely handling drum duties).

LaMontagne's 2004 debut, Trouble, became one of that year's most acclaimed debuts, spawning an instant classic single in the album's title track and led to LaMontagne being nominated for a Brit Award for Best International Breakthrough Act. LaMontagne returned two years later with the stunning Till The Sun Turns Black a deeply personal work haunted by a complex and compelling melancholy. The album received plaudits on both sides of the Atlantic, including a four-star review from Q, which described Till The Sun Turns Black as a 'mesmerising, beautiful record'.

SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM ON THE SKINS TOUR

Sneaky Sound System have announced some new October dates on the Skins Tour, which features a rotating cast of acts including The Teenagers, Brendan Long and Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly. The dates come ahead of their previously announced headline UK tour in November, and hot on the heels of their tour as special guests to Sam Sparro, as well as their own sold-out headline shows at London's Scala and Proud Galleries.

In addition to all their touring, the launch of Sneaky Sound System’s now infamous club night ‘Sneaky Sundays’ will take place at London’s Cargo on 26 October. ‘Sneaky Sundays’ has gained notoriety in Australia and quickly attracted high-profile guests including Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem and Tiga and still packs in up to 1,000 people each week. Special guests for their London Cargo launch will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Sneaky Sound System's new single ‘UFO’ will be released on 3 November 2008 through 14th Floor Records. A Top 10 hit in their native Australia, ‘UFO’ will be the follow-up to their debut UK release ‘Pictures’, which was described by The Sunday Times as “a blast of sugar-rush electro, stealing hearts” and made Jo Whiley’s Record of the Week on Radio 1. The single release will include mixes from Van She, Goodwill and Bimbo Jones. ‘UFO’ has already received several spot-plays on Radio 1, including Pete Tong’s ‘Essential Selection’ and Zane Lowe, who invited the band in for a Maida Vale session for his show.

BEAR HANDS ON UK SHORES

Hailing from Connecticut via New York- where they now call home. Bear Hands formed in 2006 after meeting in a small NYC practice room to initially flesh out some demos Dylan Rau (vocals/guitar) had been working on but each instantly saw the potential for something special to form.

From that point, Bear Hands got together and have steadily been writing & fortunate enough to share the stage with bands such as MGMT, Ra Ra Riot, Ambulance Ltd, Vampire Weekend, Die! Die! Die! and more.

The 4 song EP entitled ‘Golden’ which was produced by Andrew Schneider (Cave In, Pelican) which will be released on UK indie label Guerrilla Music on 27th October 2008. The EP is a stomping indie rock dance party with contemplative lyrics, hypnotic drumming and guitar lines that get right under your skin. GOLDFRAPP SPECIAL TREE & AUTUMN TOUR

Sublime pop magicians Goldfrapp announce a Special Edition of their latest album ‘Seventh Tree’ to be released by Mute on 3rd November 2008. Released on CD with bonus DVD, the Special Edition will contain the complete original "fantasy-fabulous" album.

The DVD contains tracks filmed live on the Summer Solstice at the magnificent De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Sea earlier this year plus backstage footage from the show. The DVD also features the fantastic videos for hit singles ‘A&E’, ‘Happiness’ (which has just been nominated for a Q Award) and ‘Caravan Girl’ as well as live performances of ‘Clowns’ and ‘Road to Somewhere’ from a TV special on Goldfrapp.

On 22nd October Goldfrapp undertake what promises to be a very special performance when they play Cecil Sharp House, home English Folk & Dance Society in London, for the BBC Electric Proms. For an audience of just 200 people the show forms a key part of this year’s Proms and will be broadcast across numerous BBC platforms including radio, TV and online. 2008 has seen Goldfrapp cement their reputation as one of the best and most thrillingly inventive British live acts around and the Proms show takes the experience to a new level with a specially extended stage to accommodate their choir and orchestra.

In addition, Goldfrapp will release an iTunes Originals Session on 30th September 2008. Recorded at NYC's Electric Lady Studios, the session includes newly recorded versions of longtime Goldfrapp favourites such as ‘Strict Machine’, ‘Ooh La La’ and ‘Paper Bag’ and newly recorded versions of songs from Seventh Tree such as ‘Eat Yourself’, ‘Road To Somewhere’ and ‘Little Bird’. The session – which is available exclusively through iTunes – also includes selected album tracks from the full Goldfrapp catalogue as well as commentary and anecdotes from the band.

The Proms show is the first on the latest leg of their UK Seventh Tree tour, taking place through October and November 2008.

Starting the year with unique acoustic show at London’s Union Chapel (which was, according to The Observer, “A privilege to witness”) through to spectacular main stage/headline performances at Glastonbury and Lovebox, the band have wowed audiences across the UK, US and Europe this year.

Live highlights so far include special performances at Royal Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall complete with orchestra, choir and full band, and the Goldfrapp dancers – pole dancing lovelies and the surreal Rag Men – who thrilled and amused in equal measure. Their sold-out UK tour in June culminated with an electrifying Royal Albert Hall show that saw 5,000 people joyously singing along to recent hit single ‘Happiness’.

Kelli Ali, formerly of The Sneaker Pimps, has announced the first of many UK dates in support of Rocking Horse, her lush and whimsical solo effort due out via One Little Indian on November 24th. Here's some information on the album:

"A departure from her trip-hop and electronic catalogue, Rocking Horse signals pastures new for Kelli Ali, as focus is placed on whimsical vocal work and sparse arrangements, crafting unique explorations into modern folk, medieval melodies and contemporary classical music.

Rocking Horse is a stark abandonment of an electronic past, but this is how it penetrates: Abandoning style for substance, crafting hauntingly ethereal mood pieces adorned by Richter’s richly melodic, textured production skills. This music is timeless, but only is such that time is irrelevant. Medieval and baroque sensibilities playfully combine with dark nu-folk to conjure a haunting tapestry of powerful folk.

Utilizing Richter’s classical background, Rocking Horse shimmers with string quartet and flute arrangements, cor anglais and vintage organs, alongside the masterful acoustic guitar playing of Marc Pilley, Richter’s own piano work and Kelli’s endearing vocals.
