This month has been rife with blatant examples of government overreach and intrusion. The Obama administration’s blatant disregard for the First Amendment and government transparency only emphasizes the importance of GOPAC’s mission.

Here at GOPAC, we’re inspired to work harder than ever to educate and elect conservative leaders who believe in smaller, less intrusive government that is more accountable to the people. Read on to learn more about what we’ve been up to and our plans for the coming months.

First Amendment Petition

The recent revelations of the Obama administration’s abuses of power and the rights of the American people have been appalling. Here at GOPAC, we believe that the culture of political manipulation inside Obama’s government must come to an immediate end.

If you agree that this administration obviously needs to be reminded of our basic rights laid out by the forefathers, sign our petition, and we will send them a copy of the constitution along with the names of everyone who has signed.

GOPAC Announces 2013 Emerging Leaders

Late last month, we announced our 2013 Emerging Leaders. These 21 individuals represent the best and brightest of our party from across the nation. These young legislators are already making a stir, and we can’t wait to see all that they will accomplish in years to come. This year’s Emerging Leaders are:

Florida State Representative Jason Brodeur
North Carolina State Representative Justin Burr
Illinois State Representative John Cabello
Virginia Delegate Peter Farrell
Tennessee State Senator Mark Green
Georgia State Senator Tyler Harper
Connecticut State Representative Tony Hwang
Ohio Representative Stephanie Kunze
Iowa State Representative John Landon
Colorado State Representative Polly Lawrence
Michigan State Representative Tom Leonard
Oklahoma State Representative Charles McCall
California Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez
Colorado State Representative Clarice Navarro-Ratzlaff
Ohio State Senator Larry Obhof
West Virginia Delegate Amanda Pasdon
Ohio State Senator Bob Peterson
Wisconsin State Senator Tom Tiffany
Texas State Representative Scott Turner
Indiana State Senator Carlin Yoder
New Mexico State Representative Monica Youngblood

You can learn more about our Emerging Leaders for 2013 by watching the video below or visiting our website.

In case you missed it, here is some of the coverage of our announcement:

“A freshman lawmaker in the Iowa House was named an “emerging leader” by a national Republican campaign group on Monday. … State Rep. John Landon, of Ankeny, received the designation from GOPAC, the Washington, D.C., based group that works to elect Republicans. As an “emerging leader,” Landon will take part in a year-long coaching and development program and attend a summit in New York in June. … Accompanying Landon to New York will be fellow state Rep. Walt Rogers, R-Cedar Falls, a former emerging leader who’s now an honorary co-chair for the summit.” (Jason Noble, “Iowa Rep. John Landon named an ‘emerging leader’ by national GOP group,” Des Moines Register, 4/30/13)

“Representative Jason Brodeur has been selected by GOPAC, the nation’s conservative political action arm, for the 2013 Emerging Leader class — a yearlong initiative to coach, develop, and promote promising state legislations. … Brodeur, the only representative selected from Florida, follows his colleague Majority Whip Dana Young, who serves as an honorary co-chair for this year’s class.” (Karen Cyphers, “Congrats to Jason Brodeur, named as a GOPAC 2013 Emerging Leader,” SaintPetersBlog, 4/30/12)

“Tennessee State Sen. Mark Green has been named one of the nation’s 21 “Emerging Leaders” for 2013 by GOPAC, the Republican Party’s education and training center. … Since 1978, GOPAC has identified and provided training to promising young leaders within the GOP to create a “farm team” with a proven commitment to limited government, increasing private sector jobs and economic growth. Its graduates have gone on to lead their communities in state legislatures, Congress and Governors’ offices.” (“GOPAC names Green one of ‘Emerging Leaders’,” Clarksville Leaf Chronicle, 4/30/13)

“A national political organization has named Rep. John Cabello, R-Machesney Park, as one of the up and comers in the Republican Party. GOPAC announced its 2013 Emerging Leaders today, including Cabello among 21 Republican state senators, representatives and delegates recognized as future party leaders. Cabello was the only person chosen from Illinois. … National attention for someone from the Rockford area will hopefully translate into a good thing for the region, Cabello said in a brief phone interview today.” (Kevin Haas, “Rep. John Cabello named one of GOP’s emerging leaders,” Rockford Register Star, 4/29/12)

“Tuesday, GOPAC picked Machesney Park’s state rep as the only Illinoisan on the national Republican group’s 2013 Emerging Leader list. GOPAC announced its 2013 Emerging Leaders, comprised of promising state legislators who have shown a commitment to limited government ideals being implemented by Republicans at the state level throughout the country, leading to more private sector jobs, more effective government at lower costs, and increased prosperity.” (“GOPAC’s 2013 ‘Emerging Leaders’ Includes Illinois State Rep John Cabello,” Illinois Review, 5/1/13)

2013 Emerging Leaders’ Summit

Next month, we will host our Emerging Leaders’ Summit in New York which will feature seminars on campaign and legislative strategies. We are looking forward to hosting, not only our promising Emerging Leaders, but also many esteemed experts in the field.

We are especially grateful to our four former Emerging Leaders who have signed on as Honorary Co-Chairs for this year’s event: Virginia State Senator Bryce Reeves, Florida State House Deputy Majority Leader and Majority Whip Dana Young, North Carolina State Representative Tom Murry, and Iowa State Representative Walt Rogers.

The Summit will ensure our Emerging Leaders have the tools necessary to lead and also provide them with an opportunity to collaborate, share best practices, and swap ideas for keeping America strong.

GOPAC’s Emerging Leader program is a yearlong initiative to coach, develop, and promote promising state legislators. The program’s cornerstone is the Annual Emerging Leaders’ Summit, taking place June 16-19, 2013 in New York City, which provides attendees with interactive seminars, leadership training, and networking opportunities. Aiding GOPAC with this event are four former Emerging Leaders who have signed on as Honorary Co-Chairs: Virginia State Senator Bryce Reeves, Florida State House Deputy Majority Leader and Majority Whip Dana Young, North Carolina State Representative Tom Murry, and Iowa State Representative Walt Rogers.

Tennessee State Sen. Mark Green. has been named one of the nation’s 21 “Emerging Leaders” for 2013 by GOPAC, the Republican Party’s education and training center.

“Once again, this year’s ‘Emerging Leaders’ represent the brightest up-and-coming leaders from states across the country,” said GOPAC Chairman Frank Donatelli in making the announcement. …

A former Army Ranger Medic and Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran, Green has just completed his first session in the Tennessee Senate, during which he secured more than $800,000 in funding for the 22d District and successfully spearheaded legislation to create an exemption in the statute of limitations on rape and other violent crimes where law enforcement is able to identify the perpetrator by the individual’s DNA profile. Green also wrote and passed legislation increasing the penalties for assault on law enforcement, paramedics, firefighters and healthcare workers.

When Hemlock Semiconductor in Clarksville announced the layoff of 300 manufacturing workers earlier this year, Green launched an innovative program that uses the Internet to help match up local unemployed workers with available jobs throughout the community.

Today, GOPAC announced its 2013 Emerging Leaders, comprised of promising state legislators who have shown a commitment to limited government ideals being implemented by Republicans at the state level throughout the country, leading to more private sector jobs, more effective government at lower costs, and increased prosperity.

Members are nominated by GOPAC’s Legislative Leaders Advisory Board for their potential and ability to have an impact in their state and the Republican Party.
