While browsing I came across Power and it immediately grabbed my attention. It’s the new book by famed photography Platon, who’s best known for his portraits of presidents and world figures. Needless to say the photography is amazing, but equally so is the book itself. I especially love the cover typography, straight and to the point in a documentation/archeologist style.

I was thrilled to come across the work of South African artist Diane Victor, who tackles social issues through her art.

Lovelies is a concept brand developed by design student Lindsey Nichols. The intent of the brand is to communicate the idea of handmade and hand crafted. Her execution does this very well through the use of hand-stitching and collage all to focus on the idea of well-crafted pieces. 

Hassan Rahim is a Los Angeles-based art director, designer. This is a small sampling of his work which includes the work for FLAUNT magazine. Check out more of his work and provocative blog here.

I’m not a comic book reader or anything but Strange Suspense: The Steve Ditko Archives Vol. 1 published by Fantagraphics Books caught my attention. I love the typography and the cover features iridescent metallic stamping.

Graphic Designer Ron Wan redesigned this classic children’s novel. It’s a nice surprise to see this contemporary approach to designing for children, not everything for kids needs to be bright colors and bubbly typography right? Yes, I agree.

I typically leave the pattern/print stuff to Pattern Pulp, but I couldn’t resist this one. First, I love the color palette and second I love the Navajo inspiration on fashion. See more at Trois Couture.

Found this excellent excerpt from a larger menu redesign project for the famous Ivy in London by United Creatives.

Just came across this nice piece of work by Graphic Designer Lucy Hargrave. It’s a 2-color self sealing DVD mailer printed on a recycled, textured stock and constructed in a sustainable way.

I was lucky enough to come across David Janes brilliant work on Twitter. I was immediately drawn to his drawings. After browsing his site in more detail I was even more delighted other work and hand-writing style.

This limited edition letterpress CD package was sent to music journalists and bloggers, promoters and radio stations and was sold at shows. The package design helped Rabbit Children’s debut album cut through the clutter, standing apart from comps music critics typically see. The fold-out insert contains illustrations inspired by the band’s lyrics.”

The concept the client was looking to execute was the place where punk meets 1960’s Madison Avenue. This contrast proved to be the challenge without coming across as too contrived or excessive. Our exploration consisted of copy machines, found typography & wheat pasting, in contrast with businessman ephemera and flourish wallpaper from the 60’s era and an elegant yet simple color scheme.”

Mini & Maximus is creative and collaborative outlet who’s ideas manifest themselves as super cute clothing and art for kids. Their products are designed to spark the creativity of children and sprout their curiosity and creativity.

In addition to a strong creative foundation, Mini & Maximus are eco-minded that’s why their t-shirts are either 100% organic cotton or made of a unique blend of recycled polyester, organic cotton and naturally occurring rayon and are screen printed with water-soluble ink. The neck tags are printed on organic cotton fabric screened with water-soluble ink. Their hangtags are printed on recycled paper with water-based ink and our packaging is recycled paper grocery bags.

It’s summer, and most of this week I’ve been blogging summer related things I find interesting. While I tend to cover more edgy pieces of art, design, illustration and photography, today I’m feeling a little romantic and that’s why I’m sharing this hand-drawn nautical themed wedding invitations by the very talented Diane Faye Zerr of Faye + Co. Exquisite self promotional piece around the subject of Beer by a boutique Denver design firm called Barnhart. They apparently love beer like I do and who doesn’t love a concept that reflects contemporary life like their “Bailout Strong Ale” Good stuff, more images after the jump.

Finally got around to flipping through the latest issue of Esquire Magazine and I got a nice surprise. Featured in The Best Bars in America 2010 article are a these coasters illustrated by none other than Sam Soulek aka Soul Seven. Kudos to Esquire for tapping this massive talent.

A while back I shared some of the artwork of Gabriel J. Shuldiner who’smixed media work I find very interesting. Gabriel has now expanded his work which his foray into Jewelry design and construction. His current line is made up of molded and distressed acrylic polymers and his de-constructive process yields unique shapes and textures.

There’s a certain quality about the illustrative style of Mark Allen Miller that has me looking at it over and over. He has a great sense of color, composition and texture. More work below —

WooFus is a brand of very limited handmade T-Shirts designed and created by a sole designer from Mainz Germany known as OOFUS. I love the organic look and feel and his use of color, the photography is pretty high end and fashion-esque in a tongue-in-cheek way.

I really appreciate the  these elegant package design for Grown Botanical Alchemy, a line of  organic skincare products. This typographical based work seems busy at first glance, but the layout and use of scale reflects the organic nature of the product itself.

Rioja Artist Series is an initiative of Rioja Wines for increase the brand internationally. In each country, a local artist was selected to illustrate the character of these wines. Borja Bonaque created these fine illustrations for to represent Spain.

The 9th issue of A5 Magazine looks to be quite interesting. This time around its dubbed the Remix issue — 77 artists from around the world present works inspired by music and their favorite songs. The issue comes with 82 postcards in a special die-cut corrigated cardboard box printed in black, white and highlighted with blue.
