Disruption to Photocopying and Printing in Library Friday 20th April 9am-1pm

Award-Winning InfosmART Portfolio Released by Glasgow School of Art Library

The Glasgow School of Art Library’s award-winning InfosmART portfolio is now freely available to the UK’s art and design communities, following Innovation and Development funding from the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC.
InfosmART is the Glasgow School of Art Library’s portfolio of online interactive modules in information and research skills, specifically designed for creative practitioners. It has been produced for the learning, teaching and research communities in art, design and architecture, and helps artists and designers to develop and improve their research capabilities and information handling, at either undergraduate, postgraduate or research levels. It does this through an easy-to-follow 5-step programme: Define, Find, Evaluate, Cite and Use.
In 2010, InfosmART was recognised at the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards, where its development team was named Outstanding Library Team of the Year. In 2011, its lead developer was named Information Literacy Practitioner of the Year for his work on the resource.
InfosmART was developed in-house by the Library of Glasgow School of Art. It has now been released for free non-commercial use and adaptation under Creative Commons licensing at http://www2.gsa.ac.uk/library/infosmart

Artwork layouts and how to prepare for laser cutting
This week's class will be looking at Adobe Illustrator. It will focus on how to artwork layouts and prepare files for use with laser cutters. This is a great class to turn up to, especially if you want to use the laser cutter as part of your degree show. The class is being re-run due to high demand. Please turn up early for this so that we can accommodate as many people as possible.

Remember you can bring your own laptop along if you have Adobe Illustrator installed! No need to book, just turn up and grab a seat in the iMac training room on Thursday just before the 5.30pm start.

Additional IT Twilight Classes Added To The Schedule

Due to popular demand Learning Resources have added additional classes to the Thursday evening IT twilight classes. We will also be running the artwork layouts and how to prepare for laser cutting Adobe Illustrator class, on the 22nd of March, due to the high turn out that we had when this class was run. There will be two classes on Adobe After Effects. These will take place on Thursday the19th and 26th of April. Classes will be in the big training room upstairs in the Computer Centre from 5.30pm as usual.

Introduction to CSS and Dreamweaver, Thursday 15th March 5.30pm, Computer Centre

This week's class builds on last week’s introduction to HTML and Dreamweaver. We will look at the basic relationship between HTML code and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and discuss why you should use CSS when building a website.
We only have an hour so you won’t get a chance to build a site at the workshop, but this should give you some good pointers to get you started. All the information will be posted on the VLE under “Learning Resources IT Twilight Classes”, in the materials section under Dreamweaver.

This week we look at the basics of HTML code, discuss important things to consider before you start actually building a site and have a quick look at the Adobe software application Dreamweaver which generates HTML code for you.

The Magazine

GSA Archives and Collections have recently conserved and digitised an important 4 volumes of student work by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries, dating from their time at the School in the mid 1890s.
Known simply as 'The Magazine' these volumes continue to provide important source material for researchers, with individual volumes loaned to a number of major exhibitions in the UK and overseas. The dedicated website now allows these volumes to be searched and accessed online for the first time.
