Weekend Ride [04.28.2012]

2012-05-02T09:45:00.006-07:00

We are up for our next bike ride...

and pledged to have this on a weekly basis...

For us Bike Ride is a Weekend Ride

I was planning our ride and tried to map the route out finding the safest route as possible...

Plan and re-plan the route. Choose the safest route. With less traffic, plain and less inclination.

I was estimating that our weekend route will just going to be under 15km..

I was so convince to the plan that I prepared the bikes 3 days before the ride.Making sure the tires are properly flated, the gears are oiled... the bikes were cleaned and ready.

Weekend Ride Adventure: Let's go conquer 15km....

The weekend ride was a successs.

Using google map I tried to remap our route and checked the total distance travelled...

WHAT THE?.... it was not 15km.... it was 21km....

hahahaha.... it seems we are fitting ourselves for a tough ride distance :D

Well until then....

Why Walk ,when you can RIDE?

2012-05-01T06:45:00.000-07:00

I modified the title since its from an old commercial I've heard from a shoe company "AirWalk". years ago...their catch phrase was "Why Walk when you can FLY!"

So for me and our new found hobby :D

"Why Walk when you can RIDE!"
~ yup me and my meh are pedaling our extra time :D

My priority was to do things together :D

Photography = Together

Labrador Retriever = Together

Food Trip = Together

Movies = Together

being cute and mushy = Together :D

ok .. ok ... ok.. (let's spare those)

continue...

Running = Together

Weight Loss = Together

....

Now...

BIKING = Together !!!

I bought 2 bikes for us to start with.. it took months to decide on whether or not to buy a bike, to which type of bike to buy, to which store.. to even to what possible upgardes to buy soon after the bikes arrived. I have talked to ALOT of people, searching the net, going thru all the classifieds to find bike sellers, calling from Manila to find a rare bike... WHEW and not to mention still up until dawn to follow up on classified updates and weekend store visits...

The time has come to end the procastination about weight loss and get my butt out to look for the bikes and bring them to us. I decided one weekend to scout and be ready (Meh already gave me a signal to buy the bikes YES!!!) ... So I decided that this day I won't go home empty handed. Need to scout 3 possible stores and if not go to the online seller and have the bikes delivered from Manila..(online was my last resort since I am not into online deals.. and I need to see the units first before buying it ~ fun at test run). I started my scouting around 8am and move around the city, and checked the 3 sites for bike units. I am running out of time. it was almost lunch that the scouting ended.. and I am still empty... I was slowly driving back when I managed to pass by a surplus bike shop. A friend told me once to visit that shop... I didn't include that shop on my list. I was thinking that I might be paying to more on a surplus item and might turn up to be a disappointment.... and plus the shop has no parking space... my car might get towed if I park there... but it seems my gut is telling me otherwise...

I was circling around and passed by the store for 4 times... and said to myself if that car that was in-front of the store would move then I will park there and look at the bikes and decide... (there were a few bikes display on the side of the road..) .. on the fifth turn it seems that the car I was talking about moved and left me an open parking space...hmmmmm...... (ok then park and move in)

I was asking a person whom I thought was the seller of the bikes, he told me that I must go inside the green gate(which was a few feet away from the bike display and ask there...and so I did)... When I opened the gate... WOW it was like eutopia of bikes :D ahihihi... not much space though but the bikes.... are these all for sale??? are these surplus bikes??? all the bikes are surplus, squeaky cleanned and I can't wait to have two of those :D A kind gentleman approached me and said, "Sir dayun"(Sir come in..).. I heard him well but my eyes were everywhere... (I think he noticed that...) my first words was Sir are these for sale? I was pointing to the ones hanging on the rack... He replies.. "hehehe no Sir those are my collections.."

My mind popped! COLLECTIONS???? I think he has about more than 20 bikes hanging... all from Dahon, A Bike.. size 20,16,18,12,8......whoooooo....... this guy has indeed alot of time in his hands...

I asked again.. pointing to the bikes covered with a plastic sheet.. how about those... He said yes.. those are for sale... and like a child I move in and flipped the plastic cover and saw the bikes... haha! I found it!

After a few talks I was guided but another gentlemen and suggested a few bikes for me to choose from..I said to them I will be back, just hold the bikes for me, for a couple of minutes and I will be back with the payment ... hahaha... 20mins after the bikes are prep, folded and loaded to the trunk :D (YIPEE ... not empty handed after all YES!!!).. called my Meh on the phone and told her that the bikes are here and ready :D (actually I was already riding and testing one of the bike while I was talking to her on the phone... hehehe)

Before I left the store, the gentleman informed me that there will be a Fun Ride (Earth Day Fun Ride), on the next day , and invited me to join.. (Well who could resist, Let's get metal guts to the pedal!!!)

So there goes our first 20km Ride :D

I modified the brake levers and added rear carriers on the bikes :D

and bought blinkers and helmets :D

WHEW!!! our First Bike Adventure :D

Stay tuned for more!

Until then

L I G H T S T R E A K F I X E D

2012-02-25T07:09:00.001-08:00

I had to sacrificed one roll of film to repair the light streak. This is caused by broken light seals. This could only be seen on film cameras. If you are wondering what is the effect of a broken light seal... This is what the effect is(*)... imagine if this is not repaired or checked prior to an assignment.. example weddings... Geeez! a nightmare!

(*)This is the effect

One Roll to sacrificed for others to be saved ....

I searched the net for DIYs, and one site came to the rescue...

The answer... the foam of a black mouse pad :D

After the fix, loaded a fresh roll and see the results... Whalaaaa !!!

(All were converted to Black and White)

Happy Viewing :D
Until the next blog!

Digital VS Analog

2012-02-25T00:56:00.002-08:00

Gabrielle Weekends: Digital VS Analog

Search the net, and there will be an ocean of sites that elaborates even to its technical details about the medium comparison [Digital versus Analog]. Now a days, a DSLR is already marking down some of its prices, and if not most of the people( in fact) quite very visible during parties and events, the presence of the DSLRs. From entry level kits to the most expensive kits money could buy.

For this episode, I am showing you that whether digital or analog, all of those are just tools. There are simple tools for simple task, while there are expensive tools with automatic features for a more elaborate tasks.

What I am telling here is that... How will one get the full capacity the tools got?

From my perspective, its the person behind the lens.

The same person who sees the art and captures it.

It is the biggest factor of a varied and complicated equation...

So I encourage all of those who have a camera, whether digital or analog, whether SLRs or compacts, bring them out, bring your creativity out. Fused that creativity to the tool. And don't limit, explore, re-learn. Don't be afraid or get intimidated if you see a more expensive camera that might shoot next to you, might not know he is also looking or intimidated with your camera, who knows.

Just learn to focus two things:

1. How to fused your creativity to the tool.

2. How will you get the full capacity of the tool.

And soon enough you will create wonders.

I can guarantee that.

For I am still on this road.

I wish you luck and if by chance I will shooting with you soon, I will be very happy.

Lets shoot, sit and have a chit chat :D

By the way, Let me introduce my model for this week

Harold Konig

From Germany, Half Pinoy!

A good friend and a good colleague. This guy has a dork energy, way beyond scale. HAHA! Last week I asked him about a photo shoot, if he was game to be a model. It was out of the box plan to do such. Harold haven't tried these stuffs before, well except for IDs taken of course.. other than that - none. Our common friend Neilvert, offered a location. Three of us were laughing about the idea, but HEY let's do this.

Harold took about 30mins to get into the zone of fashion feeling..

The photo session lasted about an hour and a half.

We are quite excited to see the output..

Cameras used:

Nikon D40 with kit lens

Nikon EM 50mm f1.8 lens (KODAK ProImage 100)

Canon EOS 888 80mm f4 lens (KODAK ProImage 100)

YN-560 flash, wireless triggered

shoot thru umbrella

Model for the week :

So can you determine which was taken from an analog or from digital ?

Again, let the creativity fuse with the tool you have..

For those who wants to model for a weekend

Message me on my facebook account :D

2ND ROLL

2012-02-12T07:45:00.000-08:00

Fresh from the oven

The good thing was that on a 36 frames per roll I got 38 frames, a simple bliss on manual loading a 35mm.The bad thing though was that some of my shots has some light streaks/blurr, I think I know the reason, and probably after I will be finished with the 3rd roll. I will fix the issue.

The 2nd roll, and my first on the Nikon EM was quite a thrill.

I am quite excited how an ISO 100 works on low light scenario, and I am impressed! The Nikon EM handled pretty well.

I am eager to finish my 3rd roll and process it by the end of the week and fix the light streak issue.I think my 4th Roll would be the ISO 400 KODAK Ultra. We will see how it works on night time :D

So for this episode:
2ND Roll
KODAK ProImage 100
Nikon EM
50mm [aperture range f1.8 - f4]

ENJOY!!!

To NEW Possibilities !!!

Until the

Let's go back !

2012-01-29T09:12:00.000-08:00

Let's go back...
It is hard to go back, most especially if the future is quite exciting.
But in my photography, I want to re-learn and re-focus.

I want to shoot film back.
Yip! 2012 will be analog.

Well of course, I will still have my Digital but I want to master the craft ,and want to take it an extra mile
more. I want to show more of what I could do with my camera, and show case the results...

So to Kick Start !

First 2012 Roll ISO 100 Kodak Ultima
I have a few shot taken at night, I know ISO 100 will not perform well , but let's see...

OK!
ISO 100 (Kodak Ultima)

I just love the grains, gives more textures, not to be flat.
So YES, I want to go back and redo everything and hopefully take my chosen craft even higher than now.

So for the next months, I will show case everything RAW !
And you will be the judge if I made it or not....

Until the next ROLL

Gabrielle :: Holiday of Giving...

2011-12-30T23:02:00.000-08:00

Gabrielle

Unto the road of GIFT giving...

This is the only time of the year that people flock to the market place(changi2x), to malls, to any bazaars. This is also the only time of the year where, every mall has their own styles of customer attractions, may it be from family activities to good sales.

But everyone knows this time is the time of gift giving... So Gabrielle also went into the flocks and grabbed the opportunity in seeing the new stuffs on the gift market :D

Enjoy!!

Preparing for gift shopping is like a blurred vision, most especially if

one is not quite ready on what to buy. For us, it was quite of a blur and clear

Well, we know our targets but, there are just so many of them

that our eyes can't focus fast enough :D

First stop was the sewing store. Every year this store amazes us not only for the products

they are selling but also for the quality.

I took this photo since I saw a drawing of a Labrador .. hehehe

This one in particular is about a size of a shoe box

Cheap bags: This store was the only store that brings quality bags with cheap prices

range: 30 - 600 pesos

While my Meh was busy for the serious stuffs

I on the other hand was in for the toys...

Believe me ANGRY BIRDS were every where

Here's Mator from Cars Movie

See... Angry Birds ....

Can't find Mr. Bean.. only Teddy

Nifty Fifty's

Flash of glasses: 50 pesos :D

Boxers

Here's a special ANGRY BIRD fever !!!

For next year. probably I will get one of these....for the house

Soon... very soon :D (evil grin...)

After more than 3 hours of looking, buying, asking for a lower price

The gift lists were done..

And we were both exhausted !!!

All for the gifts :D

Until Next Year :D

Merry Christmas to all

and Happy New Year !!!

Gabrielle Weekends: JERRY @ 60

2011-11-20T08:14:00.000-08:00

Jerry @ 60

It felt good to be back in the rim light of event coverage but still some rust are still clinging into my senses, but it really felt good to be back. The rush of feeling within, the trigger finger always ready, composition sets in head.. Man! Though its nice to be back, I want to clean up my system to prepare myself for a next assignment.

It's nice to be back: Gabrielle Photography

For this episode, I will share my photos from my latest coverage: Jerry @ 60

This family is my second family, I've know them for so long. So when the call came and ask for a coverage. I told them I will not accept any sort of fee. Instead, let me give this coverage as my gift. For all the kindness and moral support this family gave to me, my gift was just a fraction.

To Uncle Jerry, your kids already planned this way long. There were a few secret meet ups in order to pull the event according to plan.

Uncle Jerry Happy 60th birthday, keep the young heart young and the age even younger!

From Mike,Espie and family

So to my Gabrielle readers: Here are the photos...
