Mekar (from the Indonesian word meaning "flowering") offers a range of seven products that are made of the best natural and organic ingredients combined to maximize their properties and beneﬁts. Since harsh products are quick to make my sensitive skin reacts with eczema flare ups, I shy away from chemical face cleansers and favour milder, non-foaming one, which is why I enjoyed the Velvet Cleanser ($30). Suitable for all skin types and enriched with the beneﬁts of organic aloe vera and lavender, this milky and non-foaming cleanser eﬀectively removes makeup and skin impurities, while leaving it soft and supple. The action of glycolic acid removes dead cells from the surface of the skin and closes pores while respecting the lipid balance. I like how my skin is never left squeaky clean after using this product, but still, it is great at removing most of my makeup directly in the shower.

Both nourishing and protective, the Regenerating Hydrating Cream ($45) is rich in moisturizing and anti-aging ingredients - hyaluronic acid retains moisture, argan oil protects and repairs, meadowfoam softens and rosehip helps improve the appearance and texture of the skin - while being lighwight and non greasy. I can't say this is the most moisturizing product I have used, but I really like how it instantly soothe my dry, irritated and eczema-prone skin, leaves it soft and supple, with a pleasant feeling of comfort.

Applied morning and night, the lightweight Firming Eye Cream ($42) is claimed to gradually decreases puﬃness, wrinkles and dark circles for a more youthful and rested look, although I can't really talk from experience since I don't suffer from these problems. I use eye creams as prevention and the only thing I require is that is has moisturizing properties - this one nourishes, ﬁrms and smooths the delicate skin around eyes, although it is not the most moisturizing eye product I have tried.

I appreciate how all of the Mekar products I had the chance to try comes in a convenient and mess-free pump bottle, and how they are all fragrance-free, which makes them prefect for sensitive skin.

Cooking | Black-Bottom Cookie Bars

I know I am a bit late on the Pinterest bandwagon but the main reason why I finally took the plundge and created an account is the neverending collection of recipes you can find on here. I have created a board for vegetarian recipes and another for desserts, and it is really fun to experiment with the countless recipes! I can never resist a recipe mentionning "cookie" or "cookie dough", and these beauties are heavenly soft, chewy and gooey!

You will need:

1 cup unsalted butter, melted (plus more for baking dish)
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 & 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon fine salt
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cups semisweet chocolate chips (I used a Valentine's Day chocolate heart instead)

Preheat oven to 350° and lightly butter an 8-inch square baking pan. Whisk together butter and both sugars in a large bowl. Whisk in eggs and vanilla.

Gradually add flour and salt, mixing just until moistened.

Divide batter in half, and transfer one half to a separate bowl. Stir in cocoa powder and chocolate chips until combined.

Place chocolate batter in baking pan, spread evenly and smooth top. Spread plain batter on top of chocolate batter and also smooth top.

Bake 25-30 minutes, or until top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Do not overbake!

Crest & Oral-B Pro-Health Challenge

In April, I was asked to take part in a fun challenge, which involved using Crest Pro-Health and Oral-B products for a month, in an attempt to help prevent plaque. I was sent Oral-B Professional Care Deep Sweep + Smart Guide Triaction 5000 Rechargeable Toothbrush, Crest Pro-Health Clinical Plaque Control Toothpaste, Oral-B Glide Pro-Health Clinical Protection Floss, and Crest Pro-Health Invigorating Clean Multi-Protection Mouthwash. These products are conceived to protect teeth and gums against problems such as cavities, gingivitis, sensitivity, tartar, plaque, stains and bad breath.

Before trying out these new products, I was using my all time favorite electric toothbrush, Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000, and I was also trialing Kiss My Face Spearmint Breath Blast Mouthwash, which I will probably review soon. I am a bit shy to admit that I was never a regular flosser though - I am so lazy - but thanks to this challenge though, I was able to make this habit stick!

Before starting to use the new Crest and Oral-B products, I had to go to my dentist for a check up, and I am happy to report that I don't have any major problems, appart from my wisdom teeth that I will need to have pulled out soon - I am so scared!

I then proceeded to use all of the Crest and Oral-B Pro-Health products at least twice a day for four weeks, and I quite enjoyed my experience. Oral-B Triaction 5000 Rechargeable Toothbrush is just as nice as my old one, with its unique brush head design with 3 cleaning zones and its 5 customized modes - I use the whitening mode every day and I do notice a big improvement on my naturally yellow teeth! I like that Crest Clinical Plaque Control Toothpaste not only reduces plaque but also helps keep it from coming back, while also whitening teeth and freshening breath. Although I was pleased with the Invigorating Mint flavour, I honestly can't say Crest Multi-Protection Mouthwash is the most freshening and long-lasting mouthwash I have tried - I have yet to find a mouthwash that beats Scope Outlast on this point!

I am happy to report that when I returned to see my dentist after a month, she had absolutely nothing negative to say about my teeth - she still insisted that I get my wisdom teeth pulled out though - argh!

Guest Post | An Approach To Holiday Packing

I don't know about you but I find packing for a holiday a truly overwhelming experience. Inevitably I leave it to the last minute and inevitably forget something. When pressing the 'confirm' button to complete a booking for a holiday in Malta, I vowed to be a new woman. A new woman who packs her case like I expect Mary Berry would do - with perfection! A new woman that even has time to organise a ‘aeroplane outfit’ and look fabulous at 6am in the harsh lights of Stanstead airport - I would be that woman!

With my new approach packing, and life, all sorted I turned my attention to what would actually go in the case - what would I actually ware?! I reached for my copy of Elle magazine from last summer - I figured it was still relevant inspiration material, it was summer after all! With a head full of inspiration, I took to Oxford Street with a budget of £100. Easy, I thought.

I first visited River Island and instantly saw a lovely purpley-grey long, soft, linen shirt. I instantly fell on love with the colour and when it fit, it had to be mine. Then I headed to one of my favourite shops that actually I've brought very little from - Cos. In here I fell in love with a super-soft, crisp, white t-shirt with a wonderful neckline. Lovely. Next I headed to the fail-safe clothes heaven that is Zara. In here I was actually looking for something in particular - a pair of sandals I seen on Pinterest. As an aside - I've actually become a much better shopper since I joined the site - if you’re not on it, I would really recommend it.

Armed with my Zara sandals, I retreated home. When I got all my clothes out to do a fashion show for my boyfriend to reluctantly enjoy - I soon realised that I had in fact brought a complete outfit by complete mistake. It was never my intention, but it worked out rather well. It must be my subconscious 'summer' Pinterest board in action I thought!

On said holiday in Malta, this was my fave outfit. The outfit also looked great with a tan! I paired it up with some gold hoops I'd had for years and my new gold Pandora charms that were a recent birthday present. I also found all the pieces really versatile and was able to make numerous outfits. Whilst sipping a piña colada cocktail I vowed to always approach shipping this way. My wardrobe and I are now much happier as a result and it’s really easy to keep in budget.

It has a nice light consistency that is spread easily and absorbed super quickly.

Project No 'Poo | Hair Care Routine

Hi ladies! It has been around three months now since I started the no 'poo regimen, and I am happy to report that the worst is now behind me - I am not scared anymore to wake up to a greasy mess on my head and I ~~almost~~ don't freak out if I don't have any baking soda on hand. The transition period lasted a bit longer than expected for me (around three months), but it's nothing I could not overcome if I made sure to take proper precautions, and in this post, I want to share with you the products I have been relying on since the start of this journey.

In my first month update post, I mentionned that my preferred way of applying the baking soda and water mixture was my Roots Only Hair Color Applicator Comb, since the comb allow the right amount of mixture to be applied directly to the scalp and roots trough hollow teeth, not touching the rest of the hair. Since it is guaranteed not to leak, it is virtually 100% mess-free!

I have had Raw Gaia Shikakai Hair Wash in my stash for some times now but to be honest, I tried it only once (more than a year ago, probably) and I thought it was just too messy so I totally forgot about it, until last month! Shikakai means "fruit for hair" and is a 100% natural shampoo powder. It is an excellent cleanser, naturally removing the dirt and excess oil accumulated on the scalp, but it does not strip the hair of its natural oils. Moreover, it detangles the hair and works wonders as a natural conditioner. Shikakai also provides new life to hair strands, strengthens hair roots, increases bounciness and silkiness of hair, promotes hair growth and slightly darken hair.

Now that I am used to non-traditional ways of washing my hair, I thought it was time to give this product another try, and I can only be mad at myself for not using it regularly sooner! Of course it is a bit messy, just like washing with baking soda, but once you get used to it, it is really simple and easy to use. You simply create a thick paste by mixing a small amount of Shikakai powder with water, gently massage it into the scalp and hair using your fingertips, wait 2 to 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water. Each time I use this product, my hair is left super soft and full of volume - what more can I ask for?

Another product I am sorry I did not use regularly sooner is Marc Anthony Salon Expert Sea Kelp Extreme Rescue Mud, which is a weekly deep repair for extra dry, damaged hair. It is formulated with sea kelp to correct, hydrate and strengthen, while the power of antioxidants, protein and silk amino acids promote healthy, rich color. Advanced Color Care Technology prevents hair from dulling.

Now this is not your typical hair mask - since it is made with mud, it feels very runny and it has a ~~rather interesting~~ grey-brown color. It is designed to be used on damp scalp and hair after shampooing and conditioning, one to three times a week. It feels really good to massage into the scalp and I like to leave it on for as long as I can, usually when I take a bath. I swear my hair has never felt this soft or looked this glossy after using this treatment!

After washing my hair with baking soda or with water, of course, I never skip conditioner, but since they are always on rotation in my shower, I chose not to feature a specific one in this post, and to write about two of my favorite leave-in conditioners instead. I have had Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Leave-In Conditioning Cream in my stash for such a long time (before going cruelty-free!) and in an attempt to use it, I try to use it after each wash on the ends of my hair.

I like to spray Marc Anthony Salon Expert Keratin Miracle Frizz-Smoother Leave-in evenly on my damp hair to ensure easy detangling and super smooth hair - it never fails to leave it incredibly soft, hydrated and manageable. I have been using it every time I wash my hair since I got it, and I can really certify that it is a miracle product! This is really my favorite product of the Salon Expert range.

I try to apply oil on the ends of my hair every night before bed and my current favorite is Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Treatment, which is a daily, lightweight oil for strong, glossy, frizz-free hair. I only need one small drop for my shoulder-length hair, but even though I sometimes use too much product, it never leaves greasy residue! The day after, I wake up to extremely soft, smooth, shiny and tangle-free hair - the first times I used this product, I could barely believe how well it worked!

Beauty Box 5

Hi ladies! If you have been reading my blog for some times, you probably know that, unlike most of my fellow beauty bloggers, I am not really a fan of those beauty box subscription services, because I guess I am just too hard to please - I have never been completely satisfied by one of these boxes. I have had the chance to test GLOSSYBOX (February 2012, March 2012 and February 2013), Luxe Box (August 2011) and especially Julep Maven (long rant here). However, I always get excited when a new box comes out, because I keep thinking it can only be better than the others, and let's be honest - curiosity always gets the best out of me!

When I was offered to be sent a Beauty Box 5, a new and affordable beauty box sampler, I could not resist! Unlike GLOSSYBOX or GLYMM, Beauty Box 5 is delivered to your door in a cute little cardboard box that is sadly not re-useable. On their website, Beauty Box 5 states that you will receive 4 – 5 samples of a variety of makeup, skin care, fragrances and everything in between, so I was happy to receive 5 items, two of which were full-sized products.

I have never tried anything from ModelCo before, but I remember reading on a few beauty blogs that their products were a bit expensive for the quality - still, I was still happy to see that I received a full size Shine Ultra Lip Gloss ($16/0.14 fl oz) in a shade that appeared to be a lovely nude, but Strip Tease turned out to be completely translucent on my lips, although highly reflective and shimmery. I like that the non-sticky formula glides on lips evenly and leaving them smooth. The sleek bottle completed with an handy inbuilt mirror is awesome!

I don't use makeup primer since I don't like the idea of clogging my skin with silicon and other chemical craps, and I don't really wear foundation, so I can't say I was excited to receive a sample of Bodyography Veil Foundation Primer ($30/1 oz) in Clear in my box. This primer does contain anti-oxidants, vitamins A and E, Green Tea and Grape Seed extract, but it also contains dimethicone and cyclomethicone. Since this product is said to fill in fine lines and wrinkles, and prevents collagen breakdown, I already gave it to my mother.

I have never been a fan of perfume oil since most of them do not last long enough on the skin, but as soon as I smelled Demeter Roll On Perfume Oil ($10/0.29 fl oz) in Apple Blossom, I was hooked! Apple Blossom is a mouth watering warm, delicate floral scent with just a hint of sweet apple - yum! Since it is just so yummy and it comes in a handy and cute glass roll-on applicator, I don't even mind re-applying it through the day.

I was really disappointed to receive The Brush Guard Sample Pack ($5.50/4 pack), which includes three brush guards - one extra small for shadow brush, one small for blush brush and one medium for foundation brush. I personally think these items are very gimmicky and nobody really needs them - I never had trouble getting my brushes back into shape after washing them, and I can see how they could come handy for makeup artists, but I personally don't travel with my makeup brushes.

I have always enjoyed taking take of my hair, and I have been especially careful since I started Project No 'Poo, so Coolway Boost Serum ($39.95/8 oz) is a welcomed adition to my hair care products stash. This serum, which is part of Coolway Smoothing System, claims to infuse your hair with moisture and lock in that straightened style before you even get out of the shower. I have not tried this product yet, but I must say I am a bit sceptical about the whole Coolway thing - just have a look at their website...

Although I can't say I was blown away by this Beauty Box 5, I must admit that I enjoyed that it contains a nice selection of makeup, skin care and hair care items that could suit everyone, and, correct me if I am wrong, but all of the products included have not been tested on animals. I am a bit disappointed that there was only one full size product included, but the sample sare big enough to get more than one use out of each. What makes beauty Box 5 stands out from the others beauty subscription services to me is that they partner with less known brands, which, to me, is a nice refreshing change.

Beauty Box 5 ships to the United States and Canada and it is available monthly ($12), quarterly ($30) or yearly ($100).

Project Pan Them All | April Empties

My mother gave me this super cute and delicious smelling gingerbread cookie soap she found at Winners some times ago - it was actaully really good, it did not melt super fast like most bars of soap I have tried, and I can't get over how nice it smelled!

I had the chance to try Liz Earle 4 Piece Essential Discovery Collection and I really enjoyed both the Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser and the Instant Boost Skin Tonic - I have never used anything like this cleanser, which leaves me skin feels perfectly clean, soft and smooth when I am I done exfoliating it with the muslin cloth, and I enjoy finishing the cleansing routine with the toner, which does not contain alcohol and is enriched with cucumber and vitamin E - it smells sooooooo good!

I had never tried anything from Crabtree & Evelyn before but I received a sample of this lightly scented Tarocco Orange Eucalyptus & Sage Ultra-Moisturizing Hand Therapy Sachet in the February Glossy Love GLOSSYBOX, but I am afraid that after only two uses, the only thing I can talk about is its smell - yummy!

I am getting really good at using up my LUSH bath products before they all loose their smell, because I keep being disappointed! I had high hopes for Creamy Candy Bubble Bar, and although it did leave my skin moisturized, I totally missed the vanilla and cotton candy scents and the foam disappeared after only a few minutes. Same for Ma Bar Bubble Bar!

I must admit I maybe judged Dior Diorshow Extase Mascara too quickly - when I first started using it, I hated the weird brush shape and I always ended up with tons of mascara all over my lids, not to mention that there was way too much product on the wand when I took it out of the tube. At first, the formula was way too wet and it took forever to dry, but a bit like Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils*, it dried out very quickly and although it was easier to apply for a little while, it quickly became unuseable and I had to throw it away. It's a shame because it made my lashes look incredibly and it did hold a curl all day!

I am still not sure what to think of conditioners that come in box hair dyes, but I guess Garnier Rich Nourishing Conditioner Cream* did an OK job.

I received a sample of NUXE Body Fondant Body Scrub with an Apothica order, but I am really strict when it comes to scrubs because most tend to not be abrasive enough and I hate when they make and oily mess in the shower. This one has exfoliating grains of various sizes, but it is too gentle for my liking.

I finally made the decision to throw away the Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller* which I have been using daily for years, but it seems to be impossible to use up! I recently tried to see how much product was left, and I realized it looked a bit dirty and I figured out it did not really make much of a difference for me anyway. I have a backup of this eye roll as well as similar products in my stash such as Olay Regenerist Anti Aging Eye Roller* and Marcelle Hydra-C Eye Roll-On Anti-Puff & Dark Circles that I am really excited to try anyway.

I don't know why I never got around publishing a review of Montagne Jeunesse Chocolate Masque, but I guess now it's too late because I used it up... but it was absolutely scrumptious - ~~I think I even tasted it!~~ It just feels like slathering on chocolate all over your face... its just so rich, moisturizind and decadent... perfect!

I was very kindly send EthicBioskin Organics Hair Elixir to try, which is an holistic hair and conditioner treatment oil entirely made with natural and organic ingredients such as raw coconut oil, broccoli seed oil and Moroccan raw argan oil, but I was able to get only two uses out of it because I the product is just so hard to get out! I am sad to report that I did not notice any improvment in my hair condition after use though.

Although this product effortlessely removes eyeshadow and eyeliner, I struggled really hard to remove all traces of my mascara, but maybe it is because of my current mascara's formulation. At least, it is non drying!

FOTD & OOTD | Yeah you've crossed the line, I've got a knife behind my back (just sayin')

Hi ladies! I recently attended a party and of course, I did not get to take proper pictures even though, for once, I was free all day and I took plenty of time to pamper myself... oh well, I was browsing through the pictures in my camera yesterday and I realized I did have a few pictures, although they might not be the best ones, but I figured out I had not posted a FOTD or OOTD in some times so I thought, why not?

I was delighted when PUPA 4SUN Bronzing Powder landed on my doorsteps since I am a huge lover of bronzers, especially when they are as big as this one! This bronzer includes four shades to suit every skintone, but I prefer to simply swirl my brush on all of them at once and dust lightly in a '3' shape on my face (temples, cheekbones and jawline). Reviews of theBalm Mett Matt(e) Eyeshadow Palette kept popping on my blog reading list recently and they made me want to dig mine out of my stash and use it more. Since I kept the rest of my face neutral, I decided would do a dark green smokey eye, and 'Matt McDonald' turned out to be perfect for this since it is the darkest green in my collection - it is almost black! KissPat Faux Feather Hair Extensions

I have always been curious about feather hair extensions but of course, there was no way I would be encouraging the massacre of thousand of roosters for the sake of beauty, so after trying some NuMe Faux Feather Extensions and being impressed with the results, I knew I had to get some more! When I was given the opportunity to try some faux feathers from KissPat Feather Store, I did not hesitate a second!

I was very kindly sent a selection of synthetic Grizzly feathers and neon hair extensions along with some micro rings and a hair hook, and after struggling for a few days, I finally managed to get some in my hair - the process is actaully quite simple when you get used to it.

Start by separating a small section of hair a bit higher than your crown but not too high on your head if you don't want the end of the extensions to show. Be careful not to place the extensions too low on your hair though if you don't want to have to trim it for it to fit with the rest of your hair.

The next step would be to pull the small section of hair through the micro ring with the hair hook, then simply position the micro ring at or near the roots of hair (I put it just a bit below the roots as I have found that if I position it at the roots, my hair tugs quite a bit and it hurts) and insert the end of the hair extensions into the micro ring. Carefully - I pinched my fingers a couple of time - pinch the micro ring closed using a crimping tool (or, in my case, small pliers). Do not apply too much pressure because you might break the ring! To remove the extensions, carefully pinch the micro ring the reversed way - you want to open it instead of closing it.

I do miss my long hair sometimes...

I would not recomment sleeping with these extensions in since they tend to poke my head and I would wake up in the morning to a headache, but overall, I am very happy with these faux feather hair extensions.

Murad Pore & Line Minimizing Hydrator

Hi ladies! I have never used anything from Murad before so when I was given the opportunity to try their Pore & Line Minimizing Hydrator, a quick look at its claim was all I needed to say yes! Specially formulated with lental seed extract, cinnamon extract, witch hazel and kombucha collagen, this product is a multi-action moisturizer that reduces acne and turns back the clock. The Pore & Line Hydrator helps you maintain clear, youthful skin by refining and tightening pores, delivering essential moisture and boosting collagen levels.

I like that this product comes in a squeezable tube, which is more hygienic than a jar, although it can be a bit hard to get all of the product when it is almost empty without having to cut it open. The Pore & Line Hydrator is really lightweight but it has a nice consistency, and I really don't need a big quantity of product at a time. The moisturizer goes on smoothly on the skin and it is absorbed incredibly quickly, leaving my skin feeling super soft, smooth and plump.

I have not really noticed my humongous pores being refined or my the appareance of my fine lines being reduced, but my skin does feel tightened after use, allowing for a smooth makeup application. Luckily, I don't suffer from blemishes often, so I can't talk about how the Pore & Line Hydrator repairs skin breakouts. This is probably not the most moisturizing product I have tried, but I can see how nice it will be in the summer when the weather calls for a lighter moisturizer.

Awards season has come and gone, so it’s time to look back at the glitz, glamour and gossip that graced the red carpet during the most anticipated star-studded events of the season. Let’s not kid ourselves; no one tuned in for those teary-eyed acceptance speeches – thanks to programmes like E!’s Live from the Red Carpet, it’s all about the fashion.

The Golden Globes got the party started in January, and the great British weather didn’t deter the A-listers from stepping out in this season’s finest at the BAFTAs at the beginning of February. This year has been all about the floor-length, flowing gown.

Perhaps inspired by Angelina Jolie’s famous ‘leg bomb’ at last year’s Oscars, there were no shortage of legs on show this year. Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley, model Miranda Kerr and Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria were just some of the celebrities flashing a bit of thigh on the red carpet at the Golden Globes.
The SAG Awards showcased the best of monochrome, with leading ladies Claire Danes and Tina Fey leading the style stakes in stunning black floor-length gowns.

Anne Hathaway has been winning awards for her style as well as her turn as Fantine in Les Mis, and she continued her winning streak in a Burberry gown with stud detail at the BAFTAs. The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence kept things edgy yet classic in a nude, embellished column dress by Dior, and Laura Bailey stunned in a minimalist evening maxi dress.

For the Oscars themselves, Jessica Chastain wowed in a strapless Armani Prive gown while Amanda Seyfried impressed with an elegant Alexander McQueen dress in lavender. The style exchibited by these two, plus Kristen Stewart and Reese Witherspoon, showed that leading ladies will continue to pull out all the stops for the Academy Awards, even if they aren’t lucky enough to leave the Dolby Theatre with a statuette.

Is every day a bad hair day for you? Can’t seem to be able to tame your mane? Try those five simple tricks, and you’ll be a few steps closer to having flawless hair!

Use Argan Oil

Argan oil is great for the skin, but it is also great for the hair. It rejuvenates it, makes it smooth and shiny, without weighing it down. It also nourishes your scalp, and enhances your hair’s elasticity. About a half hour before you take a shower, massage some argan oil in your air and scalp, making sure you distribute it evenly, from root to tip. Wrap a warm rag or towel around your head and keep it on until you hop in the shower, then wash your hair thoroughly. Do that argan oil cure about once a week, or once every couple of weeks. You can also mix a few drops of argan oil with your shampoo and/or your conditioner, or simply use it as an anti-frizz lotion on dry hair.

Don’t Use a Towel to Dry Your Hair

A nice, fluffy and soft towel is made of a porous material which, when it meets the mostly porous consistency of your hair, creates frizz. Instead of using a towel, try and use something smoother like an old T-shirt, for instance. And, regardless of the tool you’re using, avoid scrubbing your hair dry.

Always Keep a of Dryer Sheet In Your Bag

Dryer sheets are not just good for making you clothes smooth, soft and smelling good: They are also good for fixing hair problem instantly. Not only will they –obviously – rid your hair of static, they’ll also make your hair frizz-free and smooth. Ideal for a quick fix! Just tap the dryer sheet on your rebellious locks for an instantly slick look. Do not overuse, though, cause they could make your hair heavy.

Rinse Your Hair With Apple Cider Vinegar Once a Week

Apple cider vinegar is great to eliminate product build-up in your hair and is a good, natural alternative to store-bought conditioner. Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water, and keep that mixture in a spray bottle in your shower. After shampooing your hair, spray your vinegar/water mix onto your hair, massage it in and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing. Your hair will be smooth, clean and frizz-free!

Wash It Less Often

Over washing your hair is bad for it; it accelerates the formation of split ends, plus it dries your hair out. You should definitely avoid washing your hair everyday, and if you could push it to washing it once or twice a week only, it’d be ideal. For fixing oily looking hair, try natural homemade dry shampoos. They work wonders and don’t damage your hair. If you have blond or pale locks, baby powder or cornstarch will act as an effective and cheap dry shampoo. Just sprinkle some on your roots, let sit, and then brush off. For brunettes, cocoa powder mixed with cornstarch will do the trick and won’t leave a noticeable white residue on your hair.

OOTD | Don't make me, cause I'll do it, red button and we'll all go

I was over the moon to have been able to go see my favorite band, Billy Talent, for the second time in my life at Montreal's Bell Center on April 13! My boyfriend was able to buy tickets for the Dead Silence tour before they were sold out, and it was awesome that he came to see them with me since we don't really share the same musical tastes (~~in my opinion, Justin Bieber is not music, for example~~). Billy Talent always puts on quite an epic show and this time was no different! They played an interesting mix of old and new songs to keep the crowd entertained all night long, and I never wanted the show to end! I was a bit disappointed that Sum 41 have been forced to drop off the remaining dates of the Dead Silence tour because of Deryck's recurring back problems, but at least Monster Truck took over and they were great!

I don't have much of an interesting outfit to show you but I wanted to be comfortable and not get all hot and sweaty when I would be jumping everywhere, so I put together something really simple. I also had the opportunity to wear my leopard print flats for the first time since I bought them last year!

Project Burgundy Hair | John Frieda Precision Foam Colour in Deep Cherry Brown

Hi ladies! Some times ago, John Frieda were giving away coupons on their Facebook page to try their new Precision Foam Colour, and of course, I am late on this, as always! At the drugstore, I was a bit disappointed to find only one shade in their Radiant Red collection, Deep Cherry Brown, which appeared to be more red than purple when I am looking for the opposite. Since it was free, I figured out I would pick it up anyway just to try the foam formula, even though I was not happy with the only other foam hair dye I have tried, L'Oréal Sublime Mousse.

Foam is unlike traditional home hair color - it is very easy, but different from what you would have used before, hence why there are a few "rules" to follow, such as tilting the bottle to mix instead of shaking, since it will cause the foam to become runny. The bottle should also be kept upright, for the same reason. It is nothing complicated, but you simply have to get used to it.

The rich, non-drip foam formula spreads quickly and easily into roots and hard to reach places, giving you complete coverage without patchiness. It is much quicker, easier and less mess than traditional hair color! The only thing that had me worried a bit is that even though I was careful to work with the foam exactly like it was mentioned in the directions, I did not end up with a frothy head like it said I should have, but I am not sure what difference it makes?

After rinsing the color and applying the nourishing conditioner, I was left with a rather natural-looking dark brown hair color with only a slight hint of red, mostly at the roots, and noticeable only with a flash or in direct lighting - disappointing!

The result

Fortunately, the brown washed out a bit after a few washes, and the red peeked through a bit more with time. Feel free to have a look at my hair in this post to see the results just after the dye, and this one, to see what it looke like after a few washes. It did end up turning an horrible red-brown/rust shade though, even if I made sure to use the conditioner every time I washed my hair - so much for "long-lasting tonal richness"!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas From EdenFantasys

Hi ladies! I am so proud to not be able for once - I know Mother's Day is in about a month, but I really did not want to forget to post about it, so I thought, better publish this now than never, right? I am not really familiar with Principessa Beauty although I recently ordered their Doccia me satin shower cap and their Bianco breeze dry shampoo for lighter hues, but I thought the Belleza Box was just too cute with its cute pink re-useable git box! Of course, you know I had to include at least one Cake product in this list - Cake Beauty Sweet Scape Desserted Island Duo will make you look forward to your daily bathing ritual with its seductively delicious vanilla cake smell and amazingly luxurious soapy lather - who does not enjoy smelling like a cupcake?

4. I am still in love with my eos Lip Balm Smooth Sphere which is just so adorable! It has the perfect consistency, it keeps my lips moisturized for a long time and I don't feel the need to constantly re-apply this lip balm. Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Powder Bronzer

Hi ladies! I know, it seems that I keep repeating that I want to feature more makeup products on Gaby's Beauty Blog, but you know, skincare is really my first love! I figured out it would not be too hard to talk about some of the products I reach for almost on a daily basis, and one of them is Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Powder Bronzer - ~~doesn't it bother you how most of Physicians Formula have incredibly long names?!~~

I must start by saying that this bronzer is nothing special or over the top, and if it was not for its faint 'violet' scent - which is more fruity to me - I probably would have not cared much about it at all, but I was curious. This bronzer is infused with Physicians Formula' Happy Boost Blend, which features natural plant extracts to promote a feeling of happiness by mimicking the effect of endorphins and helping protect the skin from environmental stress - sounds gimicky, right? Well, it is - no, the scent did not provide a feeling of joy when I applied this bronzer, and don't worry, the smell is so subtle that you - or others - won't be able to catch a sniff of your bronzer thorough the day.

This bronzer is really ultra-smooth and the complementary palette of color blends together to even out skin tone with satin finish (despite its shimmery appareance in the pan), a flawless radiance and healthy glow, although I wished it was darker, since I have to build it up for a good two minutes. Also, the little pink heart bugs me a little since I personally don't use bronzer directly on my cheek, and I really don't want a hint of pink if my bronzer is going to be applied all over my face!

I quite like the cute - but bulky - plastic compact that includes a mirror, but don't be fooled by its size, because you are not getting that much amount of product - there is a small, flat and not so soft brush that I probably won't use, but I will keep it in case of emergency touch-ups, housed in a separated compartment underneath the bronzer.

I am not overly in love with this bronzer since it is mostly a waste of time to me - yes it is buildable, but it is so subtle, it barely shows up on my naturally pale face without at least two applications, and at 4:45 in the morning, I really don't need this! I really prefer my Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Pressed Bronzer, which provides a dark, natural and uniform tan with only one swipe of product.
