The
new Akai MPC Fly will turn your iPad 2 tablet into a full track
producer. The controller works in conjuction with the the MPC App, which
provides several effects such as delay and compression. This app also
enables you to share music tracks on Facebook, Twitter and SoundCloud.
What’s more, the Akai MPC Fly pad controller is compatible with
virtually any Core MIDI app. Sadly, there is no info on pricing or
availability so far. PowerTrekk
has unveiled the water-powered smartphone charger at the International
CES 2012. This gadget is ideal for use for users who spend time away
from the electricity grid. It is easy to use. You just need to pour
water in the tray, place a cartridge in the tray and then connect with
your smartphone via USB port. This eco-friendly smartphone charger
provides around the same energy as four AA batteries and delivers around
10 hours of phone battery life. The PowerTrekk water-powered smartphone
charger will be launched in May or June 2012 for approx $250 each. The
replacement cartridge retails for around $4 a pop. The
Trax Mark II from Tokyoflash is a unique timepiece because it displays
the time using a belt system of tracks. There are three of four tracks
with the belts on the left tell the hour, while the belts on the right
display the minute. The Trax MkII is also available in a variety of

this week, we told you that Telus is readying the launch of Samsung's
Galaxy Note. Now the Canadian carrier has put the 5.3 inch LTE-capable handset up on its official website (here). Unfortunately, it doesn't provide a launch date (or a price) for it, only saying that it's "coming soon."

The Galaxy Note will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board. But don't worry, an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is scheduled to arrive sometime after launch.

Rogers and Bell will also release the Galaxy Note in Canada, but they haven't got the handset featured on their websites yet.

A few days ago, when Nokia announced the Lumia 900 for AT&T, it said the smartphone would be released "in the coming months."

Now,
thanks to the official Nokia Developer Newsletter (see the screenshot
below), we know that the new handset should be out in March. Of course,
that's when AT&T will launch it in the US only, as there's still no
word if or when we're going to see the Lumia 900 on other carriers / in
other markets.

The Lumia
900 is Nokia's third Windows Phone Mango handset, and is pretty much a
larger Lumia 800 with LTE connectivity. It features a 4.3 inch WVGA
ClearBlack AMOLED display, 1.4GHz
single core processor, 512MB of RAM, 8MP rear camera with 720p video
recording, 1.3MP front-facing camera, and a 1,830 mAh battery.

I'm
really curious to see how well the Lumia 900 will sell. The Lumia 800
and Lumia 710 haven't done great until now. Can a launch via a major
American carrier do wonders for Nokia? Well, we'll find out later this
year.

Apple
has always been known for their clean cut user interface in their
operating systems, being seemingly intuitive right from the get go.
Well, Cupertino is known for not resting on their laurels, and it seems
that the US Patent & Trademark Office has just published a patent application
from Apple that points towards a new 3D GUI for iOS mobile devices.
This new user interface will function with proximity sensor arrays,
responding in kind to hovering gestures. Guess an advanced 3D graphical
user interface is something reserved for a future iMac or iPad, and how
that will change the way we interact with our computers remain to be
seen.

I guess there is only so far one can develop a traditional
graphical user interface before the improvements become less and less
pronounced, just like how gaming controllers have evolved from strategic
button placement and ergonomic design to motion controls. It is an interesting time up ahead in the world of computing, so brace yourselves!
