I’ve always found it interesting that we can all look in the night sky and see the same moon every day no matter where we live on planet. I’ve also always found it a bit intriguing that we only see one side of the moon and I have often wondered about the dark side (more recently known as the “far side” of the moon.) After all, I hear the dark side has cookies. NASA has released some awesome video which shows off the seldom seen dark side of the moon.

The video was released this week but was actually filmed back in January. It begins in an impact basin known as Mare Orientale. That impact basin is massive at 560 miles wide. To capture the footage, NASA used one of the Grail spacecraft and the camera it’s equipped with called the MoonKAM.

The coolest thing about that camera is that NASA will allow students on earth to snap pictures the lunar surface as part of a project for education. MoonKAM is the first camera ever sent on a NASA probe that is completely dedicated to educational use. Camera control will be given to Middle School students starting in March.

The iPhonograph takes things back to a simpler, more civilized age, giving you the old mixed with the new. Michael Greensmith’s creation includes a handmade wooden base, along with brass components to give it just the right look.

If you like your gadgets to look all old-timey and retro, you can build an iPhonograph yourself. Instructables will show you the steps to make your own. You’ll need to go hunting for supplies like an old Cutlery box, a brass horn and a Mini Stereo Amp to name a few, but the end result should be worth all of your hard work.

When I type using my iPad, I become a one-finger typer. I usually type with at least four to five fingers when I’m using a regular keyboard, so that’s saying something. Instead of being able to bang out sixty-five words a minute, I’m now limited to approximately just somewhere around the fifteen word mark.

However, that can soon change with TypeWay. In fact, you can get back to typing using all ten of your digits, if that’s what you’re used to or if that’s what you’d want to do. The virtual keys in this app for your iPad will automatically change position and placement in order to adapt to your hand position and typing habits.

TypeWay isn’t just a keyboard app; rather, it’s text editing software complete with basic iOS 5 features like cut, copy and paste, spell-checker, suggestions for word correction, and multi-touch features. The developer made it this way since you can’t replace the regular virtual keyboard that comes with your iPad (though we wish that Apple would some day allow for this.) One other caveat is that the TypeWay keyboard currently only supports an English international keyboard in landscape mode.

The Super Bowl is almost upon us. That means that people are getting ready and buying their snacks. Wives and girlfriends are getting ready to bake all kinds of special football treats for the guys. Well, you can all just stop. No matter what you do, this single-serving deli platter shaped like a football stadium has you beat.

Just stop now and throw in the towel. This thing is the Holy Grail of football food setups. Of course it won’t last more than a few minutes if you have your football buddies over. Still, it’s a work of unhealthy artery clogging art and I wish I could dig into it right now.

Finally, a charging cable for the obsessive compulsive people who keep on checking to see if their gadget’s charging or fully charged. Dexim’s Visible USB cables are embedded with electroluminescent material, so the whole thing lights up Tron-style while your device juices up.

Aside from looking neat, the lights also serve another purpose. As you’ll see in the video below, the blinking animation gets slower as the battery of the device being charged nears its capacity, finally fading out when charging is complete.

The Dexim Visible USB cables are available on Amazon, but for some reason the USB-to-micro-USB models are being sold for $60 (USD) – way more expensive than the iOS-compatible variants, which are priced at $15-$20. So if you have an Android phone or any other device that has a micro-USB charging port, you should consider importing one from Sanwa Direct(JP) instead.
