Some of you might remember the other day when we reported on the Coolerbot, a way of exploring the outdoor wildlife from remote control while indoors. The Beriscope is a way of looking at undersea life from remote control.

Designer Jaewon Choi's "Beriscope" is an interesting blend of aquatic technology. It's a fishing rod that isn't for catching the critters, but instead for viewing them without ever having to enter the water yourself. Instead, you cast a camera out into the water and then use the Beriscope like a periscope, watching from the shore. It's just a concept, but it seems like it'd be a pretty good way to kill some time by a lake or river.

Here’s how it works: The ball shaped thing on the left side of the device can separate from it, but is still tethered to it with some cable. The user throws this ball into the ocean, and it has a camera on it. From there, the user can look into the visor itself and get a view of the life aquatic.

The goggles look like the type from a Viewmaster, but it doesn’t look like you can view stuff in 3D. I mean, after all, I’m surprised that the ball has a 2D camera on it.

When you are finished with your underwater viewing by a lake or river, you can just pull it back with the handle. At this present time, there doesn’t look to be a way to record the footage.

Ikkar Transforming Yacht

Calling all evil (but eco-friendly) movie villains: Julien Anglade’s 150-meter Ikkar yacht concept is not only powered by solar sails but can transform into a larger vessel while at sea.

If ever there were a yacht version that can actually bridge the gap between man and sea, it has to be the IKKAR hybrid yacht. Designed by Julien Anglade, a design student at Strate College, who came up with a cruise ship concept that changes shape depending on navigation, stationary or at anchor offshore, the sides of its hull open at water on almost all its length, creating huge space to be enjoyed while cruising. Measuring 150 meters in length, the IKKAR includes a streamlined hull, adding to its energy-efficient design along with its rigid photovoltaic cells that can harness solar energy to sail in positive wind conditions.

USB Sonar Speaker

As usual in our hunt for the geekiest gadgets there has been a lot of cool gadgets that we just didn’t have the time to feature. So here comes the USB Sonar Speaker.

This small dish-shaped USB speaker connects to portable audio players, laptops and other products using a standard 3.5mm stereo audio plug, and it uses “sonar” technology to produce and deliver the sound picture to the listener.

It is a speaker using vibration to produce sound. It differs from traditional speakers that you need to have 2 big holes so that the sound could comes out.

It means, no matter where you place the speaker on, it plays. As it does not need a big holes for the speaker, so it can be seamless. For this speaker, it just has a hole for inputer (both power and audio signal) and a hole for the LED.

Sawed-off USB Flash Drive

Here’s a really cool DIY project for creating a USB Flash Drive that looks like a sawed off old cable. It is the bomb when it comes to fooling people from removing it without your knowledge.

Without knowing any better, most folks will think that this is a ripped and broken USB cord where the owner is nutty enough to leave it hooked up. It’s the ultimate in “Shabby Geek” style gizmos. It just looks like you wouldn’t want to touch it for fear of zapping yourself but inside that old wire is a fully functioning (albeit small) USB flash drive. As far as DIY projects go, this one is not too difficult at all- no soddering required.

Mexican designer Joel Escalona is offering new concept of USB memory drive or other any USB storage device. Our Transportation Safety Administration officers won’t think this iconic trinket is very funny, no matter how many “all your base” jokes you crack in the security line.

I'm sure this flash gadget will be very popular between spies and James Bond will be satisfied from solutions.

Now, this is only cool idea, but we will hope to see Bomb USB drive in future.

Designed by Mexico City industrial designer Joel Escalona, the USB bomb is unfortunately a prototype at this point in time.

iPill Microphone for iPod

I’m not sure if it’s a genius idea to make a microphone shaped like a pill or the stupidest idea ever.

In fact, it seems so much more convenient to simply use an iPod with a microphone to record interviews and conversations. Chances are that you already own an iPod (or two), so we think that you should check the iPill out.

Whereas ThumbTacks sounded like a slightly muffled, less sibilant version of Apple’s Earphones with Remote and Mic at the same general volume level, iPill is dramatically louder: it is set to a volume or gain level that makes near-proximity voice recordings much easier to hear without having to turn up the volume on headphones. While there’s a little sibilance, it’s not as pronounced as in Apple’s microphone, and the overall voice balance is more natural—like a less muffled version of ThumbTacks.

It's a $13 microphone that is said to be working better than Apple's.

Realistic Sculptures by Ron Mueck

Ron Mueck (born 1958) is an Australian hyper-realist sculptor working in Great Britain. Born in Melbourne, Australia, to parents who were toy makers, he labored on children’s television shows for 15 years before working in special effects for such films as "Labyrinth", a 1986 fantasy epic starring David Bowie.

Mueck moved on to establish his own company in London, making photo-realistic props and animatronics for the advertising industry. Although highly detailed, these props were usually designed to be photographed from one specific angle hiding the mess of construction seen from the other side. Mueck increasingly wanted to produce realistic sculptures which looked perfect from all angles.

Eventually Mueck concluded that photography pretty much destroys the physical presence of the original object, and so he turned to fine art and sculpture. In the early 1990s, still in his advertising days, Mueck was commissioned to make something highly realistic, and was wondering what material would do the trick. Latex was the usual, but he wanted something harder, more precise. Luckily, he saw a little architectural decor on the wall of a boutique and inquired as to the nice, pink stuff’s nature. Fiberglass resin was the answer, and Mueck has made it his bronze and marble ever since.

Eager to make more personal sculptures, his extraordinary Dead Dad, a small-scale hyper-real sculpture of his dead and naked father was the surprise show stopper at the London Royal Academy’s controversial show Sensation (1997) which featured works from the collection of Charles Saatchi.

Mueck’s huge 4.5m crouching Boy was the centrepiece of the Millennium Dome in London and of the Venice Biennale in 2001. The artist’s work is becoming ever more intriguing, ranging from smaller-than-life size naked figures to much larger, but never actual, life size. Consequently his hyper-realistic sculptures in fibreglass and silicone, while extraordinarily lifelike, challenge us by their odd scale. The psychological confrontation for the viewer is to recognise and assimilate two contradictory realities.

Pregnant woman is Mueck’s most ambitious work to date. The sculpture is monumental (2.5m high), utterly imposing and even intimidating when first experienced by the viewer. After a while, however, this majestic Earth Mother becomes familiar, unthreatening and endearing. She is exhausted, hands held back over her head; the face is tender and vulnerable. Her presence is a powerful one indeed, and she evokes a multitude of thoughts, ranging from the wonder of maternity and procreation to population control and the burden of female responsibility. In 2002 his sculpture Pregnant Woman [1] was purchased by the National Gallery of Australia for AU$800,000.

New iPhone 3GS Unlock - Purplesn0w

George Hotz the guy who brought us the purplera1n iPhone jailbreak software has now revealed a new unlocking solution for the iPhone 3GS called Purplesn0w, which does sound very similar to the iPhone Dev Teams solution Redsn0w.

It seems that George wasn’t happy with the latest version of the iPhone Dev Teams unlock tool so he decided to release his own.

First off, what is purplesn0w? It’s a soft unlock for your 3GS that I’d actually use day to day. It’s not a daemon that takes any resources, and it doesn’t add a task to your baseband. It’s very close to a true unlock. All it does is patch three files, CommCenter, lockdownd, and your wildcard activation plist (which you need, activate w at&t sim first, no hacktivation support yet). That’s it, no other files are installed.

So as you can see Hotz needs to do some more tweaking to get purplesn0w in pristine full working condition. If you do choose to use this software now be prepared to jump thru a few hoops such as having a legitimately activated AT&T sim card. On the bright side - Hotz claims that all of the issues people have had with ultrasn0w, such as Wi-Fi loss, battery fails, unlock fails, etc… are now gone if you use his unlock. If you can hold off for a day or two, do so as Hotz will release an update according to his twitter account.

iPhone 3.0 Pwnage Jailbreak Tool Now Available for Mac OS X

We've all known the iPhone Dev Team had decided not to release the jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS until the next iPhone OS (3.1) update was released.

GeoHot ( the guy who discovered the hole) has decided he doesn’t want to wait for the iPhone Dev Team to release it and has decided to release it himself, check out what he has to day about it below.

Normally I don't make tools for the general public, and rather wait for the dev team to do it. But guys, whats up with waiting until 3.1? That isn't how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes, we find new holes. It isn't worth waiting because you might have the "last" hole in the iPhone. What last hole...this isn't golf. I'll find a new one next week.

This time, Hotz got some help from two fellow coders to be able to please the Mac folks, but he also made some improvements to the Windows version.

Our Ultrasn0w program uses the at+xlog crash as an injection vector of our unlocking payload — and it does so on the 3GS in exactly the same way as on the 3G! But this injection vector will be lost if you update to 3.1 using the official Apple IPSW, which updates the baseband. So stay away from official 3.1 IPSWs until we release the tools that let you update the firmware without updating the baseband.

But this jailbreak is not yet out. iPhone Dev Team is still waiting on the OS 3.1 update to release its jailbreak. You might have to wait for another 1-2 weeks.

So there you have it expert users. And for those less certain of their skills, more and more jailbreak options will be available to you in the near future. Sit tight and be patient.

I have to agree with the chaps at the Red Ferret Journal when it comes to this Spy Shaver Camera. No one on Earth, not even a bona fide spy, has any use for a video camera hidden inside a razer which gets the same idea with the Spy Camera Wath.

The Omejo Spy Shaver Camera DVR appears at first glance to be just an ordinary electric razor. But wait, there’s more. Inside this manscaping device lays in wait a mini recording unit capable of taking in 7-8 hours of 640×480 quality video onto its internal 4GB storage device. OK, let me get some more of the specs out of the way:
