Are You Prepared?

With it being winter, while it's been quite mild this year (yes, I knocked on wood as I wrote that). I'm always worried about our power being out for extended period of time. Last year when we were in the direct path of hurricanes (yes in NJ) I was a nut. Worried about everything, particularly food storage. Not to mention actually having emergency food.

I'm definitely thankful that we live where we do, because we aren't in extreme places like Tornado Alley, or Florida with all the hurricanes. I'm sure I'd be a wreck living in those locations. But thankfully there are many options out there.

The hubs and I have a neighbor who is a great friend that does all kinds of automotive work. Mainly repairs. We also know a few people that work on cars as a hobby. While we were at dinner with one of them last week, they were talking about how they like to get customized horns for their cars.

We had never thought about that. He particularly was looking for train horns. I had absolutely no idea that there are actual train horn kits that you can get to put on your car. Or train horns for trucks, for that matter.

Who knew what existed in the outside world! lol. It's like we are in a whole different dimension when hanging out with them, because we are always learning about new and different things.

Just a Simple Band

This past weekend, the hubs and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary. We just enjoyed each other's company, and relaxed for the weekend. I had to work on Saturday evening (our actual anniversary) so we enjoyed a few drinks afterwards with a co-worker, and then had dinner.

I'm always getting comments about how lovely my engagement/wedding ring is. It truly is exquisite. My hubs did a great job. But it got me to thinking, how much thought really goes into men's wedding bands? I know my husband is not the picky kind of guy. He just wanted something basic for a wedding band. Simple is all he wanted.

But then, there are other guys that like to stand out a little, and they have these awesome black tungston rings which can be found at Men's Tungston Online. There plain doesn't have to be the answer, and men can have their own unique identity in their ring, just like us ladies!

Where Would You Live?

Are you shocked that isn't a picture of Cinderella's Castle at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World? I knew you would be. Billy and I often talk about, where would we live if we won the lottery. Aside from getting of course a place close to our "happy place" in Disney, we've often discussed moving out west.

Especially to secluded places, with breathtaking views, mountainside. We definitely get that "bug" to do so when we are watching the Travel Channel. Lately they've been showing some extreme "glam-ping" and other great wilderness/mountainside escapes.

I'm drawn to the zen of the mountains and serenity. So I decided to do some research, and have already found some great spots. I even found Park City vacation homes like Rustler.

Weekend Wrap Up - Fall Showers

I guess it was only fitting to go to my cousin's baby shower, while it was sleeting/hailing/snowing out! lol. Can you believe that? Snow in NJ in October? I'm definitely not ready for this winter.

At the end of my very first week on my new job, I was exhausted. But a good, over-stimulated, lots of creative goodness, exhausted! I headed over to my sister's house for a bow party that she was hosting. Such adorable bows, and even better prices. You should go check Heather's site out, let her know that I sent you over - here's a link to her Etsy Shop. What was even better than the bows, was I got to see some great ladies I haven't seen in ages. To see one of those special ladies in particular warmed my heart, and gave me a big smile. She's a very wonderful woman, and I am blessed to call her a friend! :) Mrs. C.

When I woke up on Saturday and saw the weather, I definitely wanted to not leave my bed all day, but we had bigger and better plans! Nicole's Baby Shower. (she didn't want to leave the house either - but it's a good thing she did)

Then, sadly, there's really nothing interesting to report for Sunday. I spent the day doing laundry, dishes, and cleaning. I helped my neighbor make a gory dish for a Halloween Contest she's having at her work tomorrow. Then I looked over materials for work for a while, and enhanced some of my tech needs to help my productivity, then blogged for a little bit, all while the hubs was at the Eagles game. Which thankfully they won, so I can have a happy husband for the next week.

It's The Most Wonderful Time... with Tiny Prints

With Halloween pretty much out of the way, and the fact that I am already on bypass mode for Thanksgiving, that means - it's ALMOST CHRISTMAS!!! My favorite holiday.

I can't wait to start decorating the house!! I swear our townhome is always bursting at the seams with Christmas decorations, and I can't wait to break them out this year. I'm happier than I have been in a very long time, and I can't wait to celebrate this season with friends and family.

Every year I'm always looking for a new way to display the abundance of holiday cards we receive. A few years ago, I used an adorable wrought iron display. Much like the one below.

I did search high and low for a cute wreath-like one. But couldn't find one to my liking.

Last year, I adorned my staircase with them, much like this.

This year, with the help of great sites like Pinterest, I'm sure I'm bound to find some cute ideas. How are you planning on displaying your Holiday Cards?

And while I'm asking, how are you designing your holiday cards? Or, where are you finding the best holiday cards to fit your budget or your family?

Are you doing the cute holiday photo card? That's my favorite kind, I love getting them from all my friends. I love seeing the adorable holiday photo cards with smiling happy families, or cute pets.

We did that with our wedding picture when we were married 4 years ago. That's the only holiday photo card we ever did, because we had some pretty amazing photos to share. This year, I don't know if everyone wants a picture of Jenn, Bill, and our fury little girl, Lexi.

I always feel kind of conceited sending people pictures of us, but with adorable cards like these, I really want to.

Weekend Wrap Up - This Past Weekend

Now, ya'll are super lucky to get not one, but two Weekend Wrap Up posts this week. I am always saying how I feel like I get away from the personal side of my life. I enjoy writing about it, and I sometimes feel like I don't do it enough. But, then again, I'm not quite sure what my general audience comes to my blog for - do you like the personal memoir style posts?

Well, let's get caught up with last weekend. We went to one of my best friend's house for a BBQ on Saturday. I'm officially certain that she simply just lives way too far away. It's sad that I have to drive an hour and a half to go see her. It was great, her husband smoked some ribs. The men hung out, on the deck. While us ladies gabbed in the kitchen. There were kiddos galore, they even put on a talent show for us! It was super cute.

Sunday was my in-law's 40th Anniversary. My brother-in-law, sister-in-law, husband, and myself surprised them with a limo, and took them to Atlantic City to eat at Carmines in The Quarter at Tropicana. Everyone had a great night, it was a nice night out.

Melanie channeled her inner jersey housewife with her sassy shoes.

I think they were surprised and happy! At least I hope so.

Weekend Wrap Up - Two Weeks Ago!

Two weeks ago, it was my sister, Christie's birthday. We went to a favorite local farm that we've gone to since we were kids to go pumpkin picking, then had cake at my parents house for her. My youngest sister, Brittany, was home from school so it was great to spend time with her as well.

I'm going to just let the pictures do the wrap up for ya'll. It was a great time.

As Seasons Change - So Does The Menu

A few weeks ago along with the lovely ladies from GLO Network, Tina - Life Without Pink, Erica - Mommy's Fabulous, my sister-in-law Melanie Gaffney, and I got to meet the lovely Liz Henry - Six Year Itch got to sample the new Seasons 52 Autumn Menu Launch! It was a wonderful evening with amazing food, wine, and conversation.

The launch of the Autumn Menu was pretty fabulous in my opinion. Here's the delicious selections we sampled. Honestly, I could tell you everything was my favorite, it was that good. I'm very much looking forward to a special date night out with the hubs there.

In the meantime, it's you, me, and this lovely gastronomical journey!

First up was the Portobello Mushroom and Four Cheese Flatbread - leaf spinach, roasted garlic, and truffle sour cream - Yum. I'm such a huge fan of flatbread and mushrooms - so it was perfection. It was also paired with one of my favorite wines of the evening Monte Oton Garnacha, Campo de Borja-Spain 2010

Next up was one of my very favorites - Ahi Tuna Seared Rare - sliced and served chilled with Asian cucumber salad and sesame crisps. I love Ahi Tuna seared, love it, the texture, the taste, everything. It was paired, with another one of my favorite wines - Selbach Riesling QBA, Mosel-Germany 2010

Then, I was pleasantly surprised to try Maple Leaf Farms Sesame Duck Salad - apples, mint, cranberries, butternut squash and toasted pecans. Which was served with Anna's Merlot, Slovenia 2009

Next up were the entrees, that were served sharing platter presentation style, they were all fabulous and were as follows,

Manchester Farms Grilled Quail - mashed sweet potatoes and burbon-chili glaze. OMG YUM! Another first for me, if duck wasn't enough, the quail was AH-MAZING!

Organic Salmon Roasted on Cedar Plank - whole-roasted sweet carrots, fresh asparagus and red bliss potatoes - while I'm not a salmon fan, I was told that it was wonderful.

Paired with Ramey Chardonnay, Russian River 2008

as well as Mauritson Cabernet Savignon, Sonoma 2007

Roasted Harvest Squash Trio - with honey mint glaze. Awesome combination.

Half Moon Bay Brussels Sprouts - with roasted garlic. I love brussels sprouts! So good.

Finally, it was time for Mini Indulgence Desserts which I'll let speak for itself, O-M-G so good! That was served with Warre Otima 10 Year Old Tawny Port, Portugal.

Sweet Love Story

Mr. Gaffney's Gabs and I met over 11 years ago, while working for a local restaurant, that happens to be our favorite - The Library II. As most of you know, we are 9 years apart, and when we met, me being 17, and him 26 - was just all wrong. I thought he was an old man, he thought I was cute, but timing was not right.

We were friends, and he even took me to get my belly button pierced - there's a bit of saucy-ness in this sweet storry. Regardless, the love interest just wasn't there. However, after time had passed, and I had gotten back from the Disney College Program, experienced quite a life altering experience after that, I found myself back at The Library II, and the rest - is history.

What a year has passed, you can certainly say that your heart is much fuller this birthday than any other birthday before! Even though you are my younger sister (I reserve "little" sister for Brittany - much to her dismay) - you have a wisdom beyond your years.

Thank you so much for constant support and guidance. I wish that this coming year is nothing less than amazing. May you make many more memories with the blessing of a family you have. May you continue to nurture your friendships as you do, and be nurtured in return.

What I Learned from #SheStreams

Besides ~~being completely star struck with some women~~ meeting many amazing ladies, I learned so much at SheStreams a few weeks ago. I was in NYC for the conference from Thursday, September 22nd through Sunday, September 25th, courtesy of #GMNortheast.

Seeing as the day got started off way later than I would have hoped for, and some issues that needed my attention - I was not very comfortable driving into NYC in the wonderful Malibu loaner on my own at like 8pm at night. I did drive it to lunch with my mom earlier in the day, and the funny thing was, as we were walking out to our cars, she didn't even notice that it matched hers! My family is a big Malibu family - my mom has a black one, my sister has a black one, and my mother-in-law has a champagneish/mocha one. I said "ahem... I'm going to get into my nice car now", then she looked up and said "Oh wow! lol. We match!"

My husband did, however, drive me to the train station in the Malibu, and got to enjoy it all weekend while I was away. Then I got to bask in it's glory for the days following. Taking it to King of Prussia to meet a friend for lunch at the mall, and running errands. It got great gas mileage, and had great pick up when we I was heading up the Schuylkill Expressway - which surprisingly allowed me to cruise at a nice speed given the time of day I was driving (read - not during rush hour)

I was a little nervous to travel all by my lonesome to the Big Apple, but I "put my big girl pants on" and was more than excited for the amazing opportunity in front of me. Once I got in, I laid my head down on the comfy bed at the NYC Hilton Times Square - and fell fast asleep, excited. I was mostly excited for the Day 1 - the business track, because I was very curious about what it is that companies should be marketing towards.

I also get nervous around meeting new people, which I'm told you would never be able to tell, but I do. When I saw the lovely Joyce Brewer of Mommy Talk Show, and Audrey McLelland of Mom Generations, also co-author of The Digital Mom Handbook (with PSMM's own, Colleen Padilla of Classy Mommy) while we were all trying to find our way to registration - and their nice personalities were the first encounters that I had, I knew it was going to be a great day.

After breakfast, Maria Bailey started off the conference, with opening remarks, which was followed by a panel that gave the "State of the American Mom: Focus Technology, Buying, and Social Media". I learned so much within this panel, that I was pounding away on my iPad Evernote.

A lot of the information can be found on www.marketingtomoms.org - the statistics were overwhelming about how many women/moms are the sole decision maker in the household, and how much technology drives their decisions/moods.

Next up was Reaching Women via Video with Molly Gold, Jendi Pagano & Audrey McClelland - that gave me enough insight to continue working with my flipcam, and putting videos together -(I definitely will be following Simple Vlogging Tips - because Jendi helps make it look so easy) Considering that YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine, and you can see the authenticity in video - no wonder women go there to research anything!

The rest of the day offered so much more amazing information from podcasting to live radio show, and using your digital content to build brands and communities, as well as gaming, and storytelling.

I know I also learned a ton in the Moods of Moms session. It was amazing to me to learn about how there are really 6 seasons for a mom, instead of 4. That her year starts in September, getting the kids ready for school vs. January, the start of the fiscal year. That how her moods with the seasons reflect her purchasing decisions. Pretty amazing!

Then, we had an amazing Keynote Extravaganza from Maxine Clark! CEB (Chief Executive Bear) Build-A-Bear Workshop. Talk about a pretty amazing woman! She is truly inspirational, and how she just followed her passion to build such an amazing business is so motivating.

While the video is a little long, you can see what an amazing dynamic woman Maxine is. How passionate she is about her business, and how that transcends through to every single employee. We got to see this first hand that evening at the Dream With Us Build-A-Bear After Party, where we got to Build-A-Bear for Toys for Tots. Snoopy was even there!

That evening I met a good friend that lives in the city for much needed girl-time, at a great Mexican Restaurant - Toloache! The guac was delish, tacos were incredible, and drinks were fabulous. But the time I got to spend with a good friend, priceless.

Day 2 was filled with so many amazing moments with as equally amazing women. Everyone was lovely and dynamic in their own ways. I have to say that to start the morning off with the lovely Rene Syler, Good Enough Mother. To listen to the spirit of this beautiful woman, to go from loosing her job, loosing her breasts, and her hair - to go completely through a transformation to love her self - and realize that good enough is just perfect. Her nuggets of wisdom, she calls GEMS -- I will always keep with me! And because sharing is caring, I'll share them with you!

Listening to Lisa's story on how she just found her passion and literally ran with it, making every moment count, and prioritizing what's important to her, was so relate-able.

I was very fortunate to meet her and spend few minutes chatting, from that conversation, about putting myself first. I make sure I WPM (Wake, Pee, Meditate) everyday. Some nuggets of her wisdom that I have to share are:

Find the story of your business
What ever you are passionate about and you love - should be your business
Partnerships are important
Followers should be able to trust you and see your integrity
When you look at a way to giveback, your followers will see the authenticity.
Synergy - within everything you do.

Then the rest of the afternoon was filled with breakout sessions, and the Expo that was fabulous. I got to meet the great ladies of Robin Leedy & Associates that I've worked with so often, and see those great ladies of GM Northeast that I've missed so dearly!

Oh and yours truly also won a $50 Disney Gift Card for knowing Mickey Mouse's original name, which, I got to go over to the Disney Store with the lovely Kelby Carr and do some shopping!

Overall, it was such an amazing conference. I've learned so much, met so many wonderful ladies, and am still on an information overload. I am so thankful for the wonderful opportunity.

Have you heard of Cerra? It's a pretty incredible website, that is devoted to helping you find your #metime. "Me time" is so important, whether you are a woman, mom, teen, man, etc. I know for me that it helps me stay grounded, and be true to who I am. That is very important to me, to have self-actualization and support my needs.

For me, "me time" is a ritual/routine that I try to stick by that helps me unwind from the day, and shut off my brain. I usually get a bath, read a book, have a cup of tea, and get into bed. I've been trying to shut down all my digital sources, and put them away - which is a difficult task, since I take my iPhone everywhere, and am constantly on my laptop, and when I'm not doing that I'm on my Kindle (which is allowed for "me time") or iPad (which is not - too stimulating)

Now you'll hear more about Cerra and the amazing community, and education it offers tomorrow. I know that I've asked this before, but I feel we can always be evolving, and everyone does something different. But it leads for my #Aloha Friday question - What do you do for "Me Time"?

How is this possible? You might be scratching your head, thinking that it all seems so overwhelming, it's not. It's so simple. There are Seven Intentions that guide you. Those intentions are Grounded, Creative Energy, Gratitude, Loving Kindness, Courage, Wisdom, and Inspiration.

I was fortunate enough to receive a sample kit through SheSpeaks (if you are not a member, definitely check it out). The kit was full of all kinds of goodies, that I couldn't even wait to open it. I don't even know where to start to tell you how much all these items have been integrated to help me "Be Aware, Act, Reflect". I've already been a user of sensory oils to help me relax, I use at yoga, and when meditating, and every night when going to sleep. However, I've never had one that was for "energy" or Creative Energy.

I know that the sensory oils kit is on my list for Christmas this year. It's a gift that will definitely keep on giving in my opinion. It gives me the gift of balance, and in return I can be a better "me", benefiting everyone else around me.

Actually a good friend indicated her tween daughter was having anxiety issues and couldn't sleep. I suggested that these might be a good way to put her anxieties to rest. Or at least quiet them for the evening to settle down.

Overall, I'm in love with the concept of Cerra™ I try to take more moments out each day for myself. I do find myself spending more time on their site, and in the community that they offer.

I'm loving all the books that I've received. Honestly, I'm definitely that person that you find scouring the self-help sections in book stores. I'm always trying to find books to help better my outlook on myself and others.

The first books downloaded were:

Do The Work (Stephen Pressfield) and Poke the Box (Seth Godin) - both books that definitely provoke calls to action, to not just learn more, but to do more. That the status quo is not necessarily acceptable any more, but static. That to accomplish standing out, and everything that comes in between to make your dreams a reality.

The next book Self Reliance, which is one of Ralph Waldo Emerson's most famous works. Having read that, and trying to adopt his belief that everyone has greatness. This book was downloaded at the perfect time in my life. Being at the brink of a life/career change. It was exactly what I needed to read at the time to help shift my perspective.

Followed up with Anything You Want, while this is not so much life-centric but more so a "how to succeed in business" book, it definitely is filled with messages that hit home for me. Having worked for companies like Disney, and Target, I know the importance of guest services. Putting your customers first, always, is definitely a mantra that I've come to know. So that point was well taken, and I felt that Derek Sivers message was relatable.

Then a surprise came in snail mail - Pick Four by Zig Ziglar - now I was already a fan of Zig Ziglar - and I'm definitely a plan of workbook style personal enrichment plans. I love the way that he breaks things down simply, and strategically. It makes even huge steps feel attainable.

The next book that's was downloaded to my Kindle is Read This Before Our Next Meeting by Al Pittampalli - while I haven't had the opportunity to delve completely into it yet. I am definitely interested in the way that he explains that success can be easily attainable by anyone, just by asking the simple question of "what small change could I make to make this better that does not require anyone else's permission but my own".

The last book downloaded was End Malaria - which $20 of the proceeds goes directly to Malaria No More, so it's for a great cause. To describe this book, I would do it no justice. It's probably my favorite of all of them. The description will perfectly explain why it's so valuable.

I'm hooked on Multigrain Cheerios. So is the hubs, although he wouldn't admit it because, then you might believe that he actually eats healthfully. I also like the Total. Hanes® launches comfort-sharing Facebook App for

Breast Cancer Awareness

I know that I happen to giggle my tooshie off when I see the Hanes Comfort Socks commercial. You know the one, with the dad and the son dipping their feet in paste, because their socks keep falling down and they are "sick of it". I think it's too cute. Finding out that Hanes has launched a comfort sharing facebook app - for Breast Cancer Awareness no less, I knew that I had to do my share to help spread the word!

Hanes new Virtual Comfort application allows users to share comfort with those who need it most. Fans of Hanes on Facebook can personalize and send free virtual Comfort Packages to friends and family via a digital tool on the Hanes Facebook page. For each package sent, Hanes will donate $1 (up to $25,000) to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. to promote early cancer detection and provide mammograms for those in need!

Hanes created the Comfort Packages to bring a smile and help spread comfort to fans’ social networks in a small, but impactful, way. The free virtual Comfort Package can be sent from music and messages.

Sending a Comfort Package is one of the Pink tab on the Hanes page. The Comfort Package is fully customizable with photos, videos, recipes, T-shirt designs, many gestures that can brighten someone’s day and help provide support and comfort to a loved one.

Along with the Comfort Package, the Pink tab on the Hanes Facebook page includes a video of interviews featuring Hanes employees who have been affected by breast cancer and the Words of Comfort Wall where fans can leave thoughts of hope and encouragement to those touched by this terrible disease.
