A book I came across written by Ram Dass - Be Here Now. He talks about four noble truths from Buddha.

Time and suffering Anything that is in time is going to pass away because time passes away. That is the cause of suffering.

Desire and craving Crave not temporal things. Beauty, achievements, possessions are temporary. Desiring that? How Poignant!

Give up attachment Get un-attach and get un-stuck. Attachments keep you stuck.

Get your life straight Do your work. Do everything you've got to do. Watch your speech, your thoughts, your environment, your calmness and stay calmcentric.

Robert Kiyosaki had a different version of this. That is to "Mind your own business!"

Why all this? We all know about this company who mastered consumer technology and is a leader in creativity, and we very well know the celebrity founder of Apple, Steve Jobs. He had a spiritual side too.

Past and future instills fear, be here now!

I was talking to my friend the other day when we stumbled upon a discussion which helped me gain a different perspective.

We were getting to this that in most of the projects; the client is the one who calls the shots, while I argued, “not necessarily”. In Apple, Steve Jobs called the shots and he always said, “People don’t know what they want until you show them”.

What my friend said really made me think. He said, “Most people don’t”

Sure he built a billion dollar company. But he did not build what consumers asked for; he built what consumers just bought. But the point I am getting to here is Steve Jobs had a clear vision of what he wanted to build and the courage to take it through. He had an idea and then built on it every single time.

The fact is, everyone can’t be Steve Jobs, but they can sure be themselves.

So instead of being blinded, take a moment. Instead of beating around, beat through. Instead of wandering, ponder. If you’re not the idea maker, be a service provider. If you’re not a leader/initiator, be the follower. This will help solve one more problem, that is, you will know where you have to go.

It’s time for a reality check!

Change is un-acceptable

Really?

If you have realized, by nature and in nature everything is undergoing constant change.

The air molecules are somewhere moving, somewhere not. The seasons change constantly from summers to winters to summers. The water bodies have high tides and low tides. The earth is revolving around 24/7/365. The matter and mass on earth is experiencing change. The plants shed leaves, fruits and flowers one season and grow the other.

Moreover, we humans undergo biological change day after day. We have a brand new body every 3 years. We give up our old and dead cells and are equipped with new ones.

From the smallest of particles to galaxies that make up the universe, when everything is constantly changing in shape, size and matter, why is it "for us humans" difficult to accept change in our lives and in organizations?

Here is what to take - Invite and accept change. Nothing stays the same.

Everyone has resolutions at the end of the year for the new year.

You set goals for the year, 'master plans' every quarter, 'plan A' and 'plan B' every month and task lists everyday (to accomplish your goal).

Year end you derive a simple formula: Plan = Fail.

All the quotes and motivational tips wouldn't help until you apply them. Commit to ship something that matters, go get something done.

You don't need a plan for the next year, you need a commitment. Simple ?!

Persistence

I read this on one of my friend's Facebook status last week, "The year is almost come to an end. Time flies."

See that's the thing with time, "It ticks by 1 every second and refuses to give up." That's persistence.

The way I look at Steve Jobs might not be the way many people do. So here is my perception and what I have learnt from him:

Your customers don't know what they want

Steve used self talk to create the next big thing. He always created products that he wanted to use. He said, "Customers only need a better and faster of what they already have". They don't want anything revolutionary.

Experts are clueless

Consultants, Journalists, Business Analysts and Sales Gurus are experts who can talk, advice and pitch. They cannot "do". They are there to tell you what's wrong in your product and that's about it. They'll never go out and create one.

Raise the bar and raise it yet again

Apple always sets the bar high with each of their products and before anyone could reach it, they raise it yet again. He always believed in creating the best and again better than the best. His competition was himself.

Steve said, "For Apple to win, Microsoft doesn't has to lose"

Don't ship junk

Apple's goal is to create products that one can be proud of and recommend them to their family and friends and they kept up their remark. Here is what he said.

Keep it simple

There is this little truth - "There is genius in simplicity, but simple is hard".

Now Steve was a genius (no debate). From his thoughts....... to products, he kept everything simple. Be it his vision, his talks, his presentations or product design to name a few. His genius was in simplicity.

whining, and the truth is; It just does not work!

You can whine about your job or your boss or your colleague or the government or your family and you are not better than yesterday except you waste time, sabotage your brain and you are exhausted.

Here is the reality; you are good at it and the more you do, you get better.

Instead choose - to learn a new word each day, post a post every week, work on the project you've deferred for long....... By the end of the year you have learnt 365 words, written 50 plus posts and completed 2 projects.......

Steve Jobs first changed the computer industry and then the way we listen to music. He re-thought a phone and changed the phone industry. One thing he couldn't change was his destiny.

Did you explore a new gadget today? Are you the reason your client is happy?

The problem is most people do none of this.

Easy to say, hard to do but if you did, you sure are better off than yesterday.

What efforts do you make to come out of it?

Most of us have our passions to release stress. Many are into reading, writing, music, dance, painting, cooking. You might have kittens or dogs or any other pet for that matter. Some meditate, practise yoga and calmness.

Ever tried a human, a baby? A rather happy one. :)
Such innocent face, a smile, one hug, a pretty kiss or simply a touch. It just releases your negative and stressed cells and fills in positive energy.

I bet you go saying, Gawwwd, you've gotta have a God in you. Muaaahh!
