Kozo encaustic scrolls

A pair of encaustic scrolls (12 x 92") created on kozo paper. I am working in encaustic monotype on my new hot box. It is amazing what happens -- no need for a press -- the heat of the hot box fuses the encaustic medium onto the kozo paper.

I've been working in encaustics for about two months now and I am thoroughly in love with wax. Encaustics allow me to work thin or thick, transparent or opaque -- I can scrape, carve or etch into the surface. I've been using original drawing transfers to embellish the surface to create paintings which reflect my love of nature.

I've been working like mad on a series of drawings: "Documenting 195 Lake" -- ball point pen drawings 36x24 of my little bungalow in Saratoga Springs. The house just sold and the drawings are a fairwell to my life in Saratoga Springs. It's been a difficult move but a necessary one -- life in Bonita Springs, Florida is pretty nice.

Gallery 100 already is busy this season, creating a permanent exhibit for a business that has an ideal public space to showcase fine art. I’m looking for regional artists to include in the collection, which will be local. Specifically, I am looking for paintings, prints, and mixed media works that reflect the beautiful region where we live. Consulting Work at Last

I've just been hired to put together a collection of artwork -- they want local artists - meaning artist from Saratoga County, Washington County and vicinity. This is such good news that I can hardly believe my ears. Someone is actually interested in purchasing original artwork -- this must mean something. That maybe the economy is changing and getting better. I'm excited!!!

I just returned from a delightful trip to St Thomas. I spent 3 weeks enjoying island life and ended up painting a series of 9 oil paintings on board. Since I haven't painted in over a year, it was intimidating at first brush stroke. But, as I progressed and started experimenting with paint, Kunstler's famous wax medium, etc. everything started falling into place. I painted a series of some of the beautiful West Indians I met during my stay. I will post the work soon.

Life After Gallery 100

It's been almost four months since we closed our doors at Gallery 100 in Saratoga Springs. It was bitter sweet -- I loved the gallery but it was apparent at the time that we were in for tough economic times. So, the decision was made and we closed. Now we are ready for a new venture. My friend Lynda and I are starting Sterling Home Watch in Bonita Springs Florida. It is not exactly the most creative endeavor but it is something that is needed in southwest FLA. And it will leave time to paint -

Closing Gallery 100

Closing Gallery 100 is definitely a challenge. We are still shipping artwork to clients, still shipping artwork back to artists, and still shipping artwork to customers who paid via our gallery 100 lay-away plan. Paying bills, paying artists and paying shipping costs are still part of our program. It's a good thing we sold some major artwork before our grand closing last month.

Showcase House

Gallery 100 was invited at the last minute by Deborah Savage Interiors to install artwork in one of the Saratoga Builders Showcase Houses this year. We scrambled around and found a group of beautiful paintings by some of our wonderful gallery artists. William Brian Hibbard's Horse paintings and his Bird paintings were among our favorites. Incidentally, the owner of the house just had to have his two Bird paintings -- which looked just fabulous over her fireplace. It's one of those instances where the paintings made the interior of a house come alive.

Goodby Retail

We've been working at Gallery 100 like mad for the last week -- closing accounts, artists picking up unsold artwork, shipping artwork to buyers, shipping unsold artwork back to artists -- it's a long tiring list. Yesterday, we moved the last piece of Gallery 100 out of our space at 462 Broadway. It was both a relief and sad at the same time. A relief because of the terrible state of our economy -- artwork is not exactly a necessity for some. (for me it is but that's beside the point) It was sad to close our retail space because I loved Gallery 100 and our artists who put up with me for 8 years of exhibitions, parties, openings, sales, projects, etc. I will miss the excitment of the gallery and miss our artists. Most of all I will miss working with Nancy -- our gallery manager.

Gallery 100 announces new FOCUS

Gallery 100 is changing focus. We are closing our show and sale space, morphing into a unique exhibit venue, and reinvigorating the art-consulting aspect of our business. The retail gallery at 462 Broadway will close in mid-September. Already, I have begun cultivating select individuals, designers, architects, developers, and corporate clients who are enthusiastic about collecting and hanging outstanding art in diverse venues.
Our past experiences with Ayco, Saratoga Hospital, AKA Interiors, Deborah Savage Interiors, and others, have secured our expanding foundation for full-time consulting. Gallery 100 services also will include helping to choose and install artwork and curating and hanging exhibits. One show (to be announced soon) already is planned for next summer.
In private presentations, print and electronic marketing to clients, we will spotlight artists who have a relationship with Gallery 100. Our website http://www.gallery100.net/ and our blog will be featured components of our marketing program, extending our reach.

Sunday was a perfect day - translated - no rain. We all headed out to enjoy a day at the Saratoga Race Track. We enjoyed the races in our box situated right over the winner's circle and finish line. It was a fabulous day. Zoe managed to be our big winner but we all had a fabulous time. A thank you to our friends who help out at Gallery 100

Rain, It's Raining, It's Raining Again

In Saratoga Springs, it is raining every afternoon --- complete with heavy rains, strong winds, hale, thunder and lightning-- last Friday it was washout and NRA actually closed the track after the third race. Which was good for us -- track goers filled the sidewalks of town looking for something to do. We obliged them with our beautiful equine exhibit - ART HORSE

True art fans braved the weather last night to attend our artists reception at the gallery. It turned into a very profitable evening for all of us. Our clientel were captivated by the amazing paintings of Patricia Powers and loved Brian Hibbard's richly textured paintings.

Another Benefit in Saratoga Springs

It's that time of year in Saratoga Springs -- our calendars are chock full of events. Tuesday evening it was Anne Palamountain's Skidmore by Twilight -- an annual scholorship fundraiser attended by everyone who is anyone. No polo - the polo fields were too wet from all the rain. Last night we went to the annual Saratoga Hospital And We're Off! fundraiser. It was held on the grounds of The Lodge and thank heavens they had an airconditioned tent -- it was a steamy night. It is always a fun event with lots of interesting silent auction items and great auction packages -- I lusted after Gretchen Hunt's Designer Jewelry and Private Cocktail Party for 10 at Historic Jumel Mansion. It went for $$$$$$$.
