Zhang Ziyi is considered one of the Four Young Dan actresses in China, along with Zhao Wei, Xu Jinglei, and Zhou Xun. With a string of Chinese and international hits to her name, she has worked with renowned directors such as Zhang Yimou, Ang Lee, Wong Kar-Wai, Chen Kaige, Jackie Chan, Seijun Suzuki and Rob Marshall.
In 2005, Zhang landed the lead role of Sayuri in the film adaptation of the international bestseller Memoirs of a Geisha. There was a slight controversy in Japan about a Chinese woman portraying a Japanese Geisha. For the film, she reunited with her 2046 co-star Gong Li and with her Crouching Tiger co-star Michelle Yeoh. For the role, Zhang received a 2006 Golden Globe Award nomination, a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination and a BAFTA nomination.

Zhang has also been known to sing, and was featured on the House of Flying Daggers soundtrack with her own musical rendition of the ancient Chinese poem, Jia Rén Qu (佳人曲, The Beauty Song). The song was also featured in two scenes in the film.

On June 27, 2005, it was announced that Zhang had accepted an invitation to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), placing her among the ranks of those able to vote on the Academy Awards.

In May 2006, Zhang became the youngest member to sit on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival. In the fall of 2006, Zhang played Empress Wan in The Banquet (Yè Yàn 夜宴), a film set in the Tang Dynasty.

Zhang provided the voice of Karai in the TMNT movie that was released on March 23, 2007. She later starred in Forever Enthralled (Mei Lanfang) (2008) and will appear in The Horsemen (2009) with Dennis Quaid.

Despite the fact that Annie has not played many lead roles throughout her career, she has gained much popularity and won the hearts of many. Perhaps she is best known for her trademark youthful look which belies her true age. However, according to some reports, it is widely believed that Annie’s baby-faced look becomes a major limitation of her acting career as she gets older. Annie is also a very talented actress, often portraying her character wondrously without over-acting; indeed, Annie has hardly been one for the limelight and thus rarely appears in the news, which can sometimes lead to frustration for her adoring fans.

Throughout her 6 years at ATV, Annie has been featured in a total of 22 series and took on the lead role on numerous occasions. In 1998, she was even voted by fans as one of the top 10 actresses in ATV.

 TVB (1999 - 2005)
Shortly after signing on with TVB, Annie was cast into a major series, The Legendary Four Aces where she played a prominent role. Her major break came in 2001 when she was cast as the lead actress in Colourful Life alongside Frankie Lam (whom she had previously partnered with at ATV). Annie’s character in the series, the lovable princess with a heart of gold called Dun Zhu (顿珠), had such a lasting memory on the audience that she became instantly recognised by the name of her character.

Later in the same year, she took on yet another lead role in Whatever It Takes (co-starring Benny Chan). Despite being seen by many as a promising young actress, her talents had not been recognised and she was thereafter reduced to supporting roles.

Belinda was very well-liked in school and in church. In her early teens, she aspired to be a famous model. Nobody expected the then chubby teenager to gather up the courage to participate in the Miss Asia Pageant held in Hong Kong. The Miss Asia Pageant is organized by the Asia Television Limited (ATV, a broadcast company in Hong Kong).
