	22 Aug	City Direct are encouraging bus use by offering free September travel for a child to the first 50 people who respond. Details.
	10 Aug	Bus Éireann are splitting the Galway-Dublin Route into routes 20 and 20X (X20): the express service stops at Loughrea, Ballinasloe and Athlone, Dublin Airport then Dublin City. Each route departs once every two hours. Starting 15 August. Press release. Timetable.

The map shows the routes of city buses which cover this area. All buses leave from Eyre Square and travel via Eglington St, Salmon Weir Bridge and University Rd (brown on the map).

Routes 2d, 2w, 34, 35 (blue on the map) turn left and go past the south end of the hospital
Route 4w and 4X5w at night (green on the map) turn right and travel the length of the campus - there are stops at various points along the road.
Route 5w (red on the map) turns right and travels part way along Newcastle road, before turning left and heading towards Westside, Rahoon and Dunarus.

Public Transport Information:

The south-bound bus-stop is directly outside Orantown Centre (5-10 minutes walk from the centre of the village). The northward bus stop is immediately across the road.

There is a second bus-stop in the village outside the astro-turf pitch: this is mainly used by Bus Eireann's Oranmore Shuttle buses.

Most of the village is within walking distance of the bus-stop. This includes Oranmore Business Park,although you need to cross a two-lane dual carriageway to reach it. However the footpath does not continue to Deerpark Industrial Estate, and it is not recommended to try walking to it.

Bus Éireann services from Galway to Dublin (route 20), Cork, Limerick and Gort (route 51), Cliffs of Moher (route 50) and some worker/shopper services stop in Oranmore. Bus Éireann also run route 418/427, which is a shuttle service between Galway and Oranmore - some services continue through to Athenry.

CityLink's Dublin, Cork and Shannon routes serve Oranmore.

Healy's Loughrea services stop in Oranmore.

City to Ballybrit Racecourse

Bus Éireann are running shuttle buses from Eyre Square, leaving from outside the Skeffington Arms Hotel (map).

Mon, Tues and Fri from 3pm
Wed, Thus, Sat and Sun from 11am

Fares: Adult single €5, return: €9. Child single €3, return €5

Galway city services

Bus Éireann Route 9 city buses serve the back entrance to the racecourse - number (5) on the Parkmore area map.

However they will turn around at the Lynch Roundabout between

4pm - 6pm on Monday, Tuesday and Friday
12:30pm - 4pm on Wednesday
11:30am - 3:30pm on Thursday

The last bus-stop serviced during these times is at the top of Doughiska Rd - number (1) on the Briarhill area map.

People working in Parkmore Industrial Estate, Galway Technology Park, Racecourse Business Park and Briarhill Business park (or travelling to the racecourse using the regular bus) will need to walk for approx 15-20 minutes from this stop. There is an underpass beside the Clayton Hotel, instead of crossing the dual-carriageway.

Regional services

Claregalway Hotel is sponsoring Paul Nash travel to provide a free night-rider service between from Galway city and Corofin, Annaghdown, Headford, Oranmore, Abbeyknockmoy (and villages along the way). Starting on Sat 24 July. Bookings and details phone (091) 738-300.

Burkes Buses have cancelled several regular early-morning and evening services. See their website for details.

Bus Éireann have advertised these service changes for Wed 28th and Thurs 29th:

2:30pm Galway to Athenry - cancelled
4:15pm Athenry to Galway - cancelled
4:25pm Galway to Longford - delayed until 5:15pm
5:45pm Galway to Castlerea - delayed until 6pm

Non Catholic churches and houses-of-worship

Left Luggage services in Galway

There are no left luggage facilities at the private coach station.

Ceannt Station:
There is a limited left-luggage service in Ceannt Station / Galway Railway Station, which is also used by Bus Éireann.
Hours: 9am - 6pm, Monday - Friday. No access is possible outside these hours.
To find it, use the Platform entrance beside the ticket office: the luggage office is at the far end of the platform. (Railway-station site map).

Private Services:
The taxi-office in Eyre Square (number 3 on this taxi-services map) is open 24 hours, 7 days, and offers a left-luggage service. It is approximately 5 minutes walk from the railway & bus station, 7 minutes walk from the private coach station.

14	Rinville Cemetery, AKA Renville Cemetery	See the Regional buses pages for information about getting to Oranmore village. The cemetery is approx 1.8mi (2.7km) from the village: a local taxi may be the best option.

Bus Transport for School Pupils in Galway

The Department of Education provides a range of school transport. Schemes for this are administered by Bus Éireann, who provide some services themselves, and contract some out to other public transport operators.

GalwayTransport.info does not directly collect or maintain any individual data about users of this site.

Administrative data collection:

All web servers store some information about visitors, including (at least) IP address, browser and its configuration, the date and time of the visit and and details about how the visitor reached the site (from a referring page, or using what search-keywords).
This data is tracked for administration and maintenance purposes, and lets me know what articles readers are interested in. It is also used for administration and site-maintenance, and for promoting the site to potential advertisers. A key point is that it cannot personally identify visitors to this site, so is not considered as personal information.

Comments

There are, or may, be sections on this site where it is possible to leave comments. Users who leave comments are required to be logged in, and may therefore leave personally identifying information. The only information that is collected or stored by Blogger-hints-and-tips is the login account that is provided by the comment-er, and this is used only to respond to the comment(s) that are left.

Free Advertising Programme Details

GalwayTransport.info (Galway's public transport information site) has two advertising "slots" which are provided, free of charge, to small businesses and/or non-profit organisations.

Who is it suitable for?

This programme is suitable for organisations that want to communicate with:

Local people, and tourists who are currently in Galway, who want information about public transport services, or quality-assured information about local facilities.
People in Ireland (Galway and elsewhere) who are trying to find a specific community facility or a location within an industrial estate. Some of these people are not interested in public transport.
Potential tourist and/or immigrants, currently based overseas, who are researching the public transport and other services available in Galway: these are approx 10% of visitors to the site, and they tend to look at a lot of pages on the site (and so see the sidebar advertising many times).

In the three months to 20 March 2010, the site averaged over 650 visits/month, with visitors looking at 3.59 pages per visit. 82% of these visitors were from Ireland. (Source: Google Analytics).

Public transport operators and large companies will not usually be accepted for participation in this programme - exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for companies providing new services or charitable activities. What do advertisers have to do?

To take part in this programme, potential advertisers firstly need to contact the editor, to discuss potential timing and advertisement content.

Once we agree dates, advertisers need to:

Provide an image file which contains the advertisement to be shown.
Provide the name (URL) of a website to be loaded when someone clicks on the image. If a website is not yet available, provide a second image file with more information.
Look at the advertisement in a testing-website, and send the editor a letter or email agreeing that it can run between the agreed dates
Mention GalwayTransport.info at least once during the time that their advertisement is running. This could be in publicity materials, on a website, in a newsletter or verbally at an event.

This "mention" will not be audited - it is simply a goodwill gesture, in the spirit of this overall programme.

Advertisements typically run for one month, but this can be varied to suit particular circumstances.

The advertising image file:

The image file that is supplied must comply with the terms and conditions in all way.

It should be a standard, non-animated graphic format (.bmp, .gif, .png or .jpg - or other format as agreed). PDFs are acceptable - they will be converted to an image, so must be high-enough quality for this process to work.

When the image is displayed, it will be shrunk to approx 200 px wide. The preferred width:height ratio is 5:2, therefore an image that is 200px X 80px will be shown as-is, while larger ones will be shrunk accordngly

Before being put onto the GalwayTransport.info site, all image files will be tested in a load environment that is very similar to the main site. The load environment will be available on the internet (so advertisers can see what their image will look like), but will not be indexed by Google.

Why this programme?

GalwayTransport.info was founded on the basis of "giving forward": providing something that is useful, even though there is no immediate expectation of a reward that is commensurate with the effort put in to it. The paid advertising that the site has is expected to to pay for the web-hosting and publicity materials: it's not expected to be a viable businesses. The free-advertising programme is an extension of this.

Also, the site is currently made up mainly of text and maps, with some tables. There are few existing graphics. Receiving agreement to show an organisation's graphics provides some visual variety on the site.

Terms and Conditions:

Acceptance of any potential advertiser into the programme is solely at the discretion of GalwayTransport.info and its editor(s). We will not enter into any correspondence about why particular potential advertisers were or were not accepted.

No liability is accepted for any consequences of participating in the programme, or not participating in it. This includes, but is not limited to, business consequences (too many referrals, not enough, the wrong type) and website/technical consequences (unwanted visitors to your website, spam emails, lack of exposure due to website unavailability etc).

Either party may terminate the agreement to advertise any time during the advertising period, or the time leading up to it. No explanation about reasons for the termination is required, although one will be given where possible.

If the agreement is terminated by GalwayTransport.info, the advertiser will be told by email at the time when the advertisement is removed.

If the advertiser wishes to terminate the agreement, s/he should contact the editor by email, with the expectation that the advertisement will be removed from the site within 24 hours. (NB it may not be removed from some cached materials in search engines for some time after that.

Both the advertising materials supplied, and the underlying product, service, cause or organisation must comply with the terms and conditions of GalwayTransport.info's web-host and other advertising partners. No adult material
No offensive / hateful material (violent or advocating racial intolerance)
Only use content (text and images) that you own the copyright to, or have permission to use.
Nothing that might confuse readers into thinking they are looking at AdSense advertisements.

Also, the advertising image supplied must not unduly encourage readers to click it.

Information supplied to GalwayTransport.info will be managed in accordance with the site's Privacy Policy. In general, we require a contact name, phone number and email address before considering a potential advertiser. We will research potential advertisers to validate their, either on the internet or by other means.

GalwayTransport.info reserves the right to vary these terms and conditions at any time. Advertisers are responsible for remaining up to date with the current conditions, which will always be displayed on this page.

Bus Services for Third Level Students

This page has information about bus services that are specifically for tertiary students, and staff of third-level educational facilities.

A number of Galway city bus services are mainly for university, IT (institute of technology) and other 3rd level students. However if they operate as public services, they are listed on the City Bus Details page.

Services which run from other counties/towns either daily, or at weekends only for students who travel weekly are listed on the Regional Bus Services page, since they are open to the general public. Many regional morning and evening services run to or from the GMIT or NUIG campuses during term-time.

Dunaras Student Village Shuttle:
Contracted service for resident students, between the village and NUIG, and sometimes the Cathedral - details.

Corrib Village Shuttle:
Bus Éireann run a shuttle bus Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings - details.

Dangan Carpark Shuttle:
NUIG are trialling a shuttle bus between the Dangan car-park and the main Newcastle campus (Orbsen Building terminus), from 11 Jan - 28 May 2010.

Mornings: A bus from leaving from every 10-15 minutes between 8:15 - 11:01am
Lunchtime: 1:05pm from the Orbsen Building, 1:55pm from the Dangan car park
Afternoon: A bus leaves the Orbsen Building every 10-15 minutes between 4:15pm and 7:05pm
Night: Three trips from the Orbsen Building to the Dangan car park: the first leaves at at 10:20pm.

Neighbourhood maps show the key facilities in an area, and directions about how to reach them using public transport.

We try to have between 5-10 facilities on each map, so some suburbs are split across several different maps.

Businesses aren't generally included. But there are exceptions for commercial sites that are important reference points (eg "turn left beside Dunnes Stores"), or which regularly host conferences or community events (mainly hotels).

Public Transport Directions:

Catch the 4w - Newcastle bus from Eyre Square.

The bus goes over the river, past the Cathedral (on the left) and then past the University (on the right).

Outside the hospital, the bus make a right-hand turn. There are still university building on the right for some time.

St Francis Nursing Home is on the right, after the last of the university buildings (ask the bus-driver to stop at the closest stop, it's difficult to describe otherwise).

Then main entrance to Corrib Village is at the next bus stop. (Note: there is another foot entrance inside the university campus as well).

The bus makes a sharp left-hand turn outside the Westwood Hotel: there is a bus stop immediately around the corner:

Galway Business Park is across the road again
The driveway entrance to Dangan House / Dangan Nurseries is a little way down Newcastle Rd (to the south of the business-park).
For the Regional Sports Centre, walk a little further up past the business-park, and take the next entrance on the right.
Bushypark Church is on the left, approximately 1 mile further up Newcastle / Dangan Rd.

The bus may wait a few minutes at this stop, as it is the terminus. It then continues down Thomas Hynes Rd. The 2nd bus stop is immediately outside St Joseph's Special School, and Galway Educate Together National School (GETNS) is behind it (access down the driveway at the right of St Joseph's).

Evenings and Sunday:
After 7pm, and on Sundays, the bus route number changes to 4x5W, and the route is combined with route 5w - Rahoon. However the Newcastle section is visited first, so there is no change to the directions given above.
