Public Transport Directions

Either:

Catch the 3 - Ballybrit bus (bus details). This travels from Eyre Square via Wellpark and Monivea Rd.

The last stop on the outward journey is outside the Clayton Hotel.

Cúirt Na Rásaí and Tir Na gCapall are beside the Clayton Hotel. When you get off the bus, turn left and walk up Monivea Rd: Cúirt Na Rásaí is the first set of red brick buildings on the right, and Tir Na gCapall is the second set. (Cuirt Na Rasai)

Many of the other places on this page are within walking distance: cross the road, go around the corner into Doughiska Rd, and reverse the directions below.

(NB not everyone gets off the bus at the last stop, because the inward journey takes a different route. So keep an eye out for the Clayton on the left hand side).

Catch the 9 - Parkmore bus (bus details). This leaves from Eyre Square and travels past Renmore, GMIT and Roscam

After the bus passes Merlin Park Hospital /Woods (very large green area on the left), and the Oranmore turn-off (to the right), it makes a right-hand turn at the bottom of Doughiska Rd.

Amber House Hotel is the first non-residential complex on the left hand-side, and there is a bus-stop outside (This is approx the third bus-stop on the road, but you may need to ask the driver, as it's hard to see in advance)

Doughiska Park / Merlin Woods Play Area is a little further up the road, also on the left: there is a bus-stop just after it. Merlin Woods Primary School is at the north end of the park.

Doughiska Neighbourhood Centre is the shopping complex with the Centra in it, while Merlin Industrial Park is the side road on the left side (between the school and the Centra).

Briarhill Shopping Centre is immediately across the road from the Clayton Hotel, get off the bus at the top of Doughiksa Rd, and the main entrance is around the corner.

For Briar Hill Business Park get off the bus at the stop after BriarHill shopping centre: this is around several corners, and immediately after a roundabout.

Public Transport Information:

City Direct route 35 runs a few times each day between Eyre Square and Barna village. This is mainly targeted at commuters.

Bus Éireann's route 424 (Spiddal, Carraroe and Lettermullen) and 410 (Carna) buses call to the bus stop in the village, and also stop at other city bus stops along their route - note this does not include the Cappagh and Ballymonneen Rd stops shown on the map.

City Direct's route 34 goes up Cappagh Rd: the bus stop at the Cappagh/Barna rd instersection is approx 20 - 30 minutes walk from the places in this map.

Bus Éireann's route 2W and 2d buses go along Ballymoneen Rd: the bus stop at the Ballymoneen/Barna rd intersection is approx 25 - 40 minutes walk from the places in this map.

As you walk from Ballymoneen or Cappagh Roads toward Barna village:

Rusheen Bay is on the left: there are various entrances marked for the riding school, the picnic area etc.
Barna woods is a park area on the right hand side of the road, a little after the petrol station on the left.
After the woods, the next turn-off to the left leads down to Silverstrand beach. It's a narrow road with no footpath: walk on the right hand side of the road so that drivers can see you.
Tobar Eanna is in a small clearing on the left side of the road down the beach: the entrance is in the middle of a hedge and is not marked.

Public transport and parking:

Walking:
Most of the sites on this map are 5-15 minutes walk from Eyre Square.

Buses:
Bus routes 2W/2D, 4W and 5W leave from Eyre Square (sometimes after coming from the east side of the city via routes 2E,4E and 5E). Travel past the Franciscan Church before turning left and going over the river. The first bus stop after Eyre Square is outside the church, and this is the stop to use for the courthouse, threatre and national schools.

Bus route 7 leaves from Eyre Square, and travel past the Franciscan Church (bus stop outside), before turning right and heading through the north of Woodquay and on to Terryland. It also stops outside the church, and the next stop is opposite Woodquay Court.

Parking:
There is an on-street car-park in the middle of Woodquay. Other car-parks close to the area include the Cathedral, Newtonsmyth, Black Box and Corrib Court Shopping centre - see the City Car Parking map for details.

Vehicles can exit either through the main estate road, or onto the dual carriageway

CityLink Dublin-Galway commuter services (not non-stop services)
Bus Éireann Galway - Dublin route 20 and x20 (express) services
Healy's commuter services to/from Galway
Some rural-transport services

The west-bound bus-stop is near Piggot St. The eastward bus stop is across the road and approx 130 metres to the west.

Most places in the town are within 10-15 minutes walk of the bus-stops. However at the east end of town the footpath only extends to the Cathercourt complex, so it is not really safe to walk to the IDA Business Park or East Point Business Centre.

There is no taxi-office, but there are several taxi companies based in the town.

Ballybrit Industrial Estate "factory run" bus schedule and details

The following timetable shows the schedule for buses serving the Ballybrit Industrial Estate, Ballybrit Business Park and City East Business Park. (Hewlett Packard, Boston Scientific, etc)

These services are not listed on Bus Éireann's website, but are in the printed timetable (Nov 2009 edition).

However:

The 8:05am service to Ballybrit and the 5:35pm service from Ballybrit to the Railway station appear to have been cancelled.

The 5:35pm service to Seacrest is still running, but most drivers appear to believe that the bus is scheduled to leave at 5:30pm, or even 5:25pm.

There is a route 9 bus from Eyre Square at 6:30am, which travels to Boston Scientific via Bohermore and Monivea Rd.

There is sometimes a bus leaving from Seacrest at approx 6:30am. I have not been able to confirm whether this is as well as the 7:05am service, or instead of it.

Service Details:

These buses are usually labelled "Compaq / Hewlett Packard" - or perhaps "APC", and may use with either accessible city-service buses, or less-accessible inter-city coaches.

They charge the regular city fares, and weekly and monthly passes are accepted.

The morning services pick up and drop off at all regular stops along the route (and thus serve Coviden and Thermo-King). The city-centre stop is at the north end of Eyre Square, at the stop labelled "Stad" on the city-centre major bus stops map.

Afternoon services pick up from the stop outside HP only, and drop off at any regular stop along their route.
