So after my chasing the loss I’ve taken most of the last week off, especially as it was my daughters birthday and we had a wedding to attend. I did try and following the Betfair Trading Expert System picks however found it a little difficult while out and about. Zoombet on my Android mobile certainly helped out.

Where possible I played Matt’s picks and as always they came through, unfortunately one of my own ended up not coming through and wiped out the small profits this week. Out of his three picks I managed to trade only two, however three were winners. I didn’t find time to trade his numerous tennis picks.

As a result I’m going to start a fresh this week and draw a line under what’s happened.

I intend to only trade others picks for the next few months, and have been chatting to a number of more experienced traders who are happy to assist in this area. I’ve also picked up some books and newsletters etc to read through to hopefully teach me some more discipline and get me in the right mindset.

Onwards and upwards.

I’m posting this here more as a diary rather than an informative post. Last night I made the mistake of chasing a loss. I’d read about it, swore I wouldn’t do it, but a small loss led to poor decisions and I ended up losing a large amount of my profit last night.

In a way, I’m glad I’ve done it. Not that I’ve lost the money, but that I’ve experienced it and felt it. Now I feel I truly understand and can learn from it, and move on with caution.

Anyway, to explain what happened…

I’d bet a small amount on the 0-0 draw on Ukraine -v- France as well as placed a lay bet on the draw. The game was very boring, very little happening and it looked unlikely something would happen. Instead of accepting the loss I concocted a terrible plan

Place a larger bet on the 0-0 draw, accept a loss on the lay the draw, then trade out on the 0-0 draw. Guess what happened? The 0-0 bet was instantly matched followed within a split second by a goal…. shocker!

Instead of again accepting this loss I continued to chase the loss to make it up. Same strategy again, but the game ended in a draw.

By this point I was tired, exhausted, but was sure given the Odds Velez v Godoy Cruz would be a great game to make this up in, a 1:30am kick off (I have work this morning at 9am).

This game got to half time, and I got tired and scared and finally came to my senses and traded out for a total loss of around £300, which is massively annoying as there were 2 goals in the second half.

You live and learn, I’ve now learnt some important lessons I was told about, but really have learnt them now:

- Never chase the loss
- Learn to accept your losses
- Never trade when tried
- Never trade when you could be interrupted etc

Hopefully this post will serve as some future reference for my frame of mind, and remind me, a small loss occasionally is fine. This is a numbers game and as long as the wins outweigh the losses everything is ok.

I’ve decided to start putting up a bit of a review of the previous weeks betting each Sunday to highlight to myself, and any potential readers how I’m doing and what systems are doing well etc. First time I’ve done this so if anyone wants to see me break something down drop me a line on Twitter or leave a comment.

I missed a few Tennis trades this week from Betfair Trading Expert Systems as they fell during my business hours, and I missed a footy trade too trying to get better odds – silly mistake.

It should also be noted that I got completely distracted whilst one of the Betfair Trading Expert soccer picks ran, this meant I ended up losing the entire liability when this should have been a winning trade.

I note this as the results below make Matt’s picks look bad, when in actual fact it is quite the opposite, Matt’s picks are very successful as you’ll see over the coming weeks as I break this down.
