The original Halo has been called the game that sustained the original Xbox. Due to the fame and popularity of the Halo franchise and the unexaggerated idea that Microsoft's foray into gaming may have failed without Halo: Combat Evolved, the Halo series has become something like the money-making child star for Microsoft. The problem with most child stars, however, is that they cannot continue their success when their cuteness wears off. This analogy translates over to video games, where few games can continue to generate and sustain a following throughout various iterations. Halo 3, however, bucks this trend by giving gamers nearly everything that they could hope for in the finale of the Halo 3 trilogy.

Halo 3 picks up where Halo 2 left off, following Master Chief and his team as they attempt to defeat the Prophet of Truth and his Covenant followers. This time around, the Arbiter, the surprise co-protagonist from Halo 2, is also along for the ride, although his role is completely secondary. Master Chief and friends must battle their foes to recover Cortana, who was captured in Halo 2, and protect that galaxy from the threats that arise to endanger life everywhere. Without getting too in depth and revealing anything, fans of the first two titles will know what to expect. There aren't too many surprises where the story is concerned, although the trilogy is given the decent sense of closure sorely missing from Halo 2. However, anyone jumping aboard Halo for the first time will be completely lost by the story's close, so if the narrative is an important part of the game for you, consider getting backstory before starting.

One area of concern for most gamers since the beta released were the visuals. The graphics in the beta failed to impress many gamers who were expecting Halo 3 to rival Gears of War in its presentation. However, those concerns can be laid to rest as the graphics have improved considerably from the beta. There is an incredible level of detail in the environments and characters from the start of the game to the finish, and it feels great to see the characters that we all know and love given their next-gen upgrade visually. The appearance of the cutscenes has improved as well. There is a lot to appreciate as well, as the environments in the game are varied, running the gamut from a trek through the snow to the lush, green jungles that your team starts in.

The controls are probably an area of concern for the purists of the franchise. The control setup, which has been fairly unchanged since the beginning, has seen some of its biggest alterations to date. Actions have been moved to the bumper buttons, so you now press right bumper to open doors and activate switches as well as reloading the right hand weapon. Left bumper switches the grenade type that you have equipped or reloads the weapon in your left hand. This setup allows you to reload your dual wielded weapons independently of each other and also frees up the X button to deploy the new equipment. While the setup takes some getting used to for those who've religiously played the first two, it feels eventually begins to feel like a natural evolution of the series. Inevitably, there are going to be some that don't like the new control scheme and are either unable or unwilling to relearn their controls, but those willing to take to time to readjust won't regret it.

The sounds in the Halo series have also always been among the best, with an orchestral score instantly recognizable to most gamers. Halo 3 also doesn't disappoint in this respect. Each of the voice actors in the game does an excellent job in reprising their various roles and the playful banter between the marines is as realistic as ever. The soundtrack is still incredibly done and rises and falls appropriately, giving the game a cinematic feel as the correct times.

The gameplay also doesn't disappoint, giving the player an epic experience from start to finish. Most of the game you'll have a team with you, but the bulk of the fragging is done by Master Chief. There are times that you'll feel as if you're really in the middle of a battle with your team rallying behind you as you charge the Covenant teams with the scale of and types of battles shift throughout the game as well, keeping the experience fresh. You'll find yourself battling Scarabs on more than one occasion, which will give you to opportunity to take out the vehicle from Halo 2 in a non-scripted and more satisfying fashion.

The new weapons, vehicles and equipment also bring a lot to the table. The new additions are spaced out in a way that keeps the experience fresh, as you won't encounter some of the new additions until the last few stages. The new equipment, which consists of the new famous bubble shield, which protects you from projectiles but is porous to enemies, a regenerator, which replenishes your shields, and even old favorites like active camouflage, although you can carry it and activate it at will now instead of using it as soon as you pick it up. The equipment adds a new level of strategy to the gameplay, allowing you to deploy cover or initiate temporary invincibility in times of need. Your enemies can use the same equipment however, so caution is warranted.

Speaking of the enemies in the game, the A.I. is as incredible as it ever was. The enemies will do their best to outmaneuver you, acting intelligently at all times. If you kill the enemy commander, the subordinates all flee or lose focus, but you can distinctly hear the orders being barked and see the enemy doing their best to outflank you.

Beyond the single player campaign, Halo 3 also offers co-op for up to four players. This means that you and up to three friends and hop on Halo 3 using split screen or through Xbox Live and play through the campaign. This is a lot of fun and adds replayability, especially considering that many people play the Halo games repeatedly anyway. To add icing to the cake, Bungie has included a Metagame that gives each player points for kills and various actions, which basically allows you to play against your co-op team and brings a bit of friendly competition to the game outside of multiplayer versus.

The multiplayer versus is where a vast majority of gamers are planning on spending their Halo 3 time. Halo 2 is one of the most widely played Xbox Live games ever, and there is little doubt that Halo 3 will take and maintain that title, especially considering the additions that Bungie has crammed into the game. Perhaps in appreciation of their huge fanbase, Bungie has included the ability to record, save, and share video files of multiplayer and campaign. You can also create game types and share them with others online. Perhaps one of the most anticipated features, however, is Forge, which is a map editor that allows you to reconfigure the maps and share them with others. Forge is a great addition to Halo and is simple to use as well, allowing the player to switch between "god" mode and normal with a button press, so that you can create objects, move them around the map, and then test them out immediately.

All the new additions to the multiplayer greatly enhance an experience that is incredible to begin with. Halo 3 allows up to sixteen players to battle one another on eleven maps in a variety of modes, including the popular Slayer and Team Slayer as well as CTF. Each of the various modes all have different variants and different variables that you can tweak, from infinite grenades to damage modifiers to allowing the players to leech shields from one another. Bungie even included a Zombies game, acknowledging the online favorite with an actual game mode. This brings almost unlimited possibilities to the gameplay, but the game is fun if you only try good old fashioned Classic Slayer.

Ultimately, Halo 3 will not disappoint fans of the series. Halo 3 takes everything that made Halo a favorite game and tweaks it until it has achieved near perfection. The single player experience is a thrill ride from the beginning to the end and the multiplayer will probably be the king of Xbox Live until another game in the Halo series releases. Halo 3 is the undoubtedly best in the series and a game experience that shouldn't be missed.

Use the following trick to get a Spartan laser with unlimited ammunition in the "Halo" mission. Play through the level until you meet up with Sergeant Johnson. Shoot him until he falls down and drops the Spartan laser. Quickly pick it up, and shoot it at him. Keep shooting him until he kills you. When you respawn, knock him down again, and pick up his laser. He should get back up with another laser on his back. When he does, shoot him down again, and pick up the new gun he drops. This laser should now have unlimited Spartan ammunition. This makes it easier to destroy the Guilty Spark 343. -From: Camuel
# Katana

Successfully complete all achievements (1000/1000) and find all Skulls to unlock the Katana.
# Alternate ending

Successfully complete the final mission on the Legendary difficulty setting to view an alternate ending.
# Super fast Spartan laser fire

In Forge mode, get a Spartan laser. Charge it until it is almost about to fire. Before you fire, turn into the Monitor. Fly around until you find a target. Before you turn back into a human, hold RT to fire the Spartan laser almost instantly (if done correctly). You can use the Monitor's aimer to aim the laser.
# Smarter respawning

When playing in Co-op mode on the Legendary difficulty setting, it is best to have one player keep their distance from the enemy at all times. By doing this, if the rest of the players die, they will respawn around the player that is farther back, rather than having to restart at the checkpoint.
# Easy experience in Multiplayer mode

Note: This trick requires four active accounts on your console that are all able to play on Xbox Live. Enter the matchmaking lobby, and choose "Social", then "Rumble Pit". Sign all four of your accounts in the lobby. In free for all modes, you have to be in the top three to earn experience points. Start matchmaking, and it should find two additional players. Once the game begins, you can simply do nothing. Once the game ends, all four of your accounts will tie for third place, giving all of them easy experience points. -From: Brandon Adkins
# Getting in the same ranked Lone Wolves game

Go to the Xbox 360 Dashboard. Change your language to the second option from the bottom, then start Halo 3. Invite four other friends that are about the same rank as you, and have them change their language to the same one as you. Get everyone in the same party; everyone must search at the same time. Everyone must then make a game in Lone Wolves. Before you go to start the countdown, press X to change the search options to the bottom one, which is to search for the same language. If done correctly, you should be in the same ranked Lone Wolves game as your friends. You can now get achievements or level someone up.
# Extra grenades

In Multiplayer or System Link mode, when you kill someone, slash their dead body with the Energy Sword for more grenades come out of it.

# Skull locations

You can only collect Skulls on the Normal, Heroic, and Legendary difficulty setting. You must start from the beginning of the mission. You will not be able to see the Skulls if you load from a checkpoint, unless doing so after dieing. In Co-op mode, as soon as one player picks the Skull up, all players will receive the achievement if there is one. Not all Skulls earn an achievement; only nine of them do. To use Skulls, press X at the lobby screen. This will give you a bonus multiplier for Co-op mode and go towards earning the Guerrilla, Demon, etc. achievements.

Black Eye Skull: At the start of the "Crow's Nest" mission, without moving anything, you can see a huge pipe above you. Walk up the stairs, then up the next set. Turn to your left and jump up on the shelf unit. Jump to the red cross beam, then up onto the pipe. Then, just walk to the end. Walk over the Black Eye Skull to collect it. You do not have to pick this Skull up, it does it automatically. The Skull description reads "Bash your way to better health." When this Skull is active, your shield will instantly charge when you use melee attacks, and will not auto-recharge anymore.

Blind Skull: In the "Sierra 117" mission, when you get to the area where you see the Phantom overhead (one of the marines will point it out), jump over the rocks, and keep following the path on the right. When you get to the cliff, there will be a rock over the side. The Skull is on the end of the rock. The Skull description reads "Shoot from the hip." Note: This Skull has to be activated before you start a campaign map.

Catch Skull: In "The Storm" mission, go to where the first anti-air Wraith tank is located. There is a large gray cylinder in the that area on the ground on the far side from where you enter. The Skull is on the top of the silo. To get up there, perform a grenade jump off a Warthog or use a vehicle to push a large crate to the side of it; jump on the crate, then the silo. Note: Do not destroy the Wraith near the door or the Skull will disappear. The Skull description reads "Pull pin. Count to three. Throw." When this Skull is active, every NPC will carry two grenades and throws them often.

Cowbell Skull: In "The Ark" mission, pick up a Grav Lift from the small building near where you fight the Scarab. Then, proceed through the level until you reach the second sloping hallway (stairway). You should see some partitioned risers (platforms) halfway down. The Skull is on the top level. Throw the Grav Lift on the right side of the hall so it lands on the fourth little green dot from the door. Then, run, jump, and use the Grav Lift to propel you to the top. You should reach a checkpoint just as you enter the room, so if you miss you can try again. When this Skull is active, explosive force is increased.

Famine Skull: In "The Ark" mission, when you first go into the valley to the right after the wrecked Phantom, look to your left to see a huge boulder. Use a Ghost to get to the side of the boulder that is closest to the bridge overhead. It is easy to pilot the Ghost up the side of the wall using the thrust. To get the Skull, pilot two Ghosts up the wall to the top of the bridge and stack them on top of one another next to the beam where the Skull is placed. Then, jump from the top of the Ghosts towards the Skull and land on the beam. The Skull description reads "Trust us. Bring a magazine." When this Skull is active, dropped weapons will have very little ammunition compared to normal.

Fog Skull: In the "Floodgate" mission, as you are walking down from the anti-air gun you destroyed in the previous mission, there will be a ramp (next to a missile launcher). Around this ramp, there is a checkpoint. At this point, you should also hear a marine yelling, “There! Over There!”. Look up and to the right, directly at the roof of the building next to the missile launcher. There is a Flood form (not to be mistaken with the two other Flood forms jumping in front of you), which is holding the Skull. Kill him before he jumps, and he will drop the Skull down to the ground where you can retrieve it. Note: Correct timing is required because if you kill him too early, the Skull will get stuck on the roof. The Skull description reads "You'll miss those eyes in the back of your head." When this Skull is active, your motion sensor disappears.

Grunt Birthday Party Skull: In the "Crow's Nest" mission, immediately after the first objective, while en route to the barracks, you will fall down to a pipe. Go to the end of that pipe, then look over the edge to find a small space a few feet below. Drop over, then quickly pull back to land under the floor you dropped from. The Skull is at the end of this area. When this Skull is active, it makes Grunts explode in confetti when they are headshot. There will also be some cheering, like a birthday party.

Iron Skull: In the "Sierra 117" mission, after freeing Johnson and killing all the Covenant that come in the Phantoms, walk to the Pelican that arrives to pick you up. Face the cargo bay, but instead of going in, turn left and follow the path. Once you hit the wall, jump up to your right to eventually reach a walkway. Walk all the way to the end. Take a left, then a right. At the end of this, a little bit to the right is a dark corner. Press Up to turn your light on and you should see the Skull. If you cannot see it, you are probably standing on it. The Skull description reads "Death carries a heavy price...". When this Skull is active, instead of losing 25 points when you die, you will lose 75.

IWHBYD Skull: In "The Covenant" mission, go to the last tower. Before you get to the Prophet of Truth, there are a series of bridges with Halos. Do not jump through any yet. First, kill the Prophet of Truth, and defeat the bridges of enemies. Then, jump through the Halos in this order, with "1" being at the entrance and "7" being the end near where the Prophet of Truth was located: 4, 6, 5, 4, 5, 3, 4. Alternately, jump through the Halos in the following order: 4, 5, 6, 5, 7, 6, 5, 4, 1, 2, 3, 2, 7, 2, 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 5, 4, 5, 3, 4. This is much easier in Co-op mode with three or four people. This is the Halo theme if it was played on a phone by dialing the numbers. If done correctly, the Halos will start flashing, and the Skull will appear near the Prophet's ramp. If the Halos do not flash, try again. The Skull description reads "But the dog beat me over the fence." When this Skull is active, there is bonus dialogue throughout the game. IWHBYD stands for "I Would Have Been Your Daddy", which is a level chapter from the original Halo. -From: crimsontwist

Mythic Skull: In the "Halo" mission, follow the normal path until you reach a cave. Follow the right wall until it branches off into a small path. At the end of this path is some rubble, and in front is the Skull. The Skull description reads "Coverage under the Covenant health plan." When this Skull is active, you will get a 3x score multiplier for all kills.

Thunderstorm Skull: In "The Covenant" mission, after you shut down the first tower and get access to the Hornet, fly to the second tower (the one the Arbiter shut down). While walking up the stairs, go to the middle part that connects both, and there should be stairs leading up to a platform where the Skull is. The Skull description reads "Field promotions for everyone!" When this Skull is active, enemies will be much stronger.

Tilt Skull: In the "Cortana" mission, when in the circular type room with all the Flood, look for a small structure piece next to two archways. Jump on top if it, then go up on the rocks to the top left. Turn left and jump up again, then turn 180 degrees and jump to the rocks across from you. Then, follow the rock sticking out and leading up on top of the original circular room. The Skull is in a pool of blood. The Skull description reads "What was once resistant is now immunity." When this Skull is active, enemies will have different body parts that are resistance to certain bullet types.

Tough Luck Skull: In the "Tsavo Highway" mission, once you get past the part where you are forced to leave your vehicle, you will go through a tunnel and onto an open freeway. Immediately after coming out of the tunnel, you will see a huge pipe with two yellow ladders. Climb the second ladder. You should see a Regenerator power-up. Proceed to your right onto a small platform ledge where the yellow chain link fence is located. Jump onto that ledge, crossing over the fence. Directly behind you should be a large column that is holding up the giant pipe you were just on. Below that is a walkway. Fall off the ledge onto the walkway. Walk to the end of that. You should see a hidden ledge with the Skull on it. A few attempts may be requires to jump across. The Skull description reads "Your foes always make every saving throw."

# Terminal locations

The following is a list of all seven Terminal locations. To accomplish the "Marathon Man" achievement, when you find each Terminal, press RB to view the journal. The screen will eventually start to turn red. Wait until it turns blue again and a new entry will appear. You need to view both entries in all Terminals for it to count towards the "Marathon Man" achievement. -From: Jared

The Ark

1. Start the mission, then once you enter the first building, go left into another door. You should now be in a curved corridor. On the inside is a Terminal.

2. After activating the bridge to let your comrades across the gap, turn 180 degrees, and you should see a Terminal (it does not open until you activate the bridge).

3. In the third building after defeating the Scarab, kill the group of sleeping Covenant, then follow the corridor downwards. Once you reach a door in front that is locked, immediately on the left there is an open door. Go through and walk straight off, then turn 180 degrees to find a secret room with a Terminal.

The Covenant

4. When in the first tower standing on the lift, face the access panel and turn left. Jump over to find a Terminal.

5. Land your Hornet on the second tower, walk towards the entrance, but when you see the locked door, turn 180 degrees. A Terminal should be right in front of you.

6. When in the third tower standing on the lift, face the access panel and turn right. Jump over to find a Terminal.

Halo

7. After reaching the end of the first cave, follow the right wall, and you will see a building. Jump up on the walkway, then go left once inside to find a Terminal.

# Multiplayer medals

Successfully complete the indicated task in Multiplayer mode to unlock the corresponding medal. Once you unlock most medals, they will be displayed in the corner of the screen and at the end of the match. You can view all earned medals on Bungie's official website. Note: There are two medals (Linktacular and Steaktacular) which will not display a confirmation once you unlock them, but they will still appear in your medal history.

Assassin: Hit and kill an opponent with a melee attack from behind.

Beat Down: Hit and kill an opponent with a melee attack.

Bomb Planted: Plant the bomb in an Assault gametype.

Bulltrue: Kill an opponent who is in the act of a sword lunge.

Death from the Grave: Kill an opponent after you have died.

Double Kill: Kill 2 opponents within 4 seconds of each other.

Extermination: Get an overkill on the opposing team, wiping out all of the members.

Flag Kill: Get a melee kill with the flag in a CTF gametype.

Flag Score: Capture the opposing team's flag in a CTF gametype.

Grenade Stick: Kill an opponent by sticking him/her with a Plasma Grenade or a Spike Grenade.

Hail to the King: Kill 5 consecutive opponents in a single life from inside the hill before it moves in a King of the Hill gametype.

Hell's Janitor: Kill 10 zombies in a row as a human without dying in an Infection gametype.

Highjacker: Board an enemy ground vehicle.

Incineration: Kill an opponent by using the Flamethrower.

Infection Spree: Kill 5 humans in a row as a zombie without dying in an Infection gametype.

Invincible: Kill 30 opponents in a row without dying.

Juggernaut Spree: Kill 5 consecutive opponents in a single run as the Juggernaut in a Juggernaut gametype.

Killapocalypse: Kill 9 opponents within 4 seconds of each other.

Killed Bomb Carrier: Kill the opposing bomb carrier in a Assault Gamtype.

Killed Flag Carrier: Kill the opposing flag carrier in a CTF gametype.

Killed Juggernaut: Kill the Juggernaut in a Juggernaut gametype.

Killed VIP: Kill the opposing VIP in a VIP gametype.

Killimanjaro: Kill 7 opponents within 4 seconds of each other.

Killing Frenzy: Kill 10 opponents in a row without dying.

Killing Spree: Kill 5 opponents in a row without dying.

Killionaire: Kill 10 opponents within 4 seconds of each other.

Killjoy: End an opponent's killing spree -- any spree.

# Driving vehicles through invisible walls

In certain levels in Campaign mode, you may want to take your vehicle through most of the level. However, there are invisible walls that keep the vehicle from moving past where it is needed. To pass through this, drive your vehicle through the doorway, gate, tunnel, etc. where the invisible wall is located. Just before you go through it, jump out and let the vehicle pass through the wall. This allows you to take the vehicle through the rest of the level if desired.
# Go under map in Construct multiplayer map

To do this trick, you must be in Forge mode. Make sure you sell a respawn point before doing this glitch. Start out as the Oracle. Go down the pink Grav Lift by using your boost (press LT). There should be a few holes. You cannot fit down these as the Oracle. Start boosting into one of the holes that is not a closed circle. The Oracle should go slightly lower into this hole. Make sure you keep holding boost, then turn into either Spartan or Elite. You should fall underneath the level. Make sure you drop a respawn maker on a place where you can stand so you can get back whenever desired. To confirm you are under the level, try to fly up without going through the Grav Lift. There is an invisible wall just like in the "Foundation" level in Halo 2, except on the bottom. Note: This may require a few attempts.
# Dribble Skull in Crow's Nest mission

At the beginning of the mission, grab the Skull on top of the large pipe near the ceiling before you pick up any weapons. This is easier in Co-op mode. Press RT repeatedly. This will cause Master Chief to drop the Skull, but because he has no weapons, he will immediately pick it back up, making it appear as though he is dribbling the Skull like a basketball.
# Red vs. Blue reference in Crow's Nest mission

When you begin the mission, you will find a large roadway with many Covenant forces. You are supposed to fight your way to a door that will lead you to a room with two turbine-like objects. Instead of going through this door, follow the road all the way to the end, killing all the Covenant on the way. Once you reach the end, there will be a Marine knocking on a door wanting to get in. If you listen closely, you can hear that it is actually an excerpt from Red vs. Blue where Simmons is talking to Griff trying to get into the base. Note: There is a different message for each difficulty setting:

Easy: None

Normal: Two Marines copying Red vs. Blue.

Heroic: Simmons and Griff from Red vs. Blue.

Legendary: Church and Caboose doing a "remake" of Simmons and Griff.

# Leave level boundary in Highground multiplayer map

Go down to the beach area in Forge mode, and get in a Mongoose. Have the person in the Mongoose accelerate at the barrier. Afterwards, have the Wraith boost at the back of the Mongoose from a short distance. For a brief moment the Mongoose will be past the barrier. When this happens, get out. You will then be outside of Highground. This trick works in all ocean maps.
# Evil duck in Isolation multiplayer map

In the "Isolation" multiplayer map, go to the Flood cave where the Ghost is located. Go in front of the Ghost, look up, and walk a short distance slowly. You will see a big smudge on its face, but look carefully for the duck's body. You can partly see its face and the horns on its head. This is related to the picture in Zanzibar in Halo 2.
# Leave level boundary in Isolation multiplayer map

While in Forge mode, get as high as possible as the Monitor. Spawn a teleporter on the ground. Then, hug any wall while still being as high as possible, and spawn another teleporter. If the teleporter beneath you is lit up as it should be, turn back into a Spartan or Elite, then go through the it. You should now be outside the level boundary.
# Stretchy Master Chief in Last Resort multiplayer map

While in Forge mode, move to the two Mongooses next to the building on the far side of the map from the beach. Change into the Monitor, and place six or more Fusion Coils near the side of the bridge coming out of the building. Change back to Master Chief, and stand on top of the coils. Position yourself so that when they detonate you will fly into the side of the bridge. This may require a few attempts. Then, end the game. Go to the theater and watch the movie. Play the explosion slowly by tapping A quickly to pause and restart the movie. If done correctly, upon impact Master Chief will stretch out.
# Flipped Elephant message in Sandtrap multiplayer map

Note: This trick is best done with two players. In the "Sandtrap" multiplayer map in Forge mode, first try to get as many pre-placed Fusion Coils and Plasma Batteries before starting. Place as many Fusion Coils and Plasma Batteries as possible in front of an Elephant, then drive into the pile. Then, shoot at the pile until it explodes. It will either just jump a little, stand up on the rear, or turn all the way around. When you get close, the message "Hold RB to flip... wait, what? Get two Elephants to collide into each other. Have one flip the other over. When one is flipped over and you get close, the message "Hold RB to flip... wait, what? How did you do that?" will appear.

Drive the Elephant on a hill so it stays on it. Put exploding crates around the hanger. Blow up the crates with a plasma grenade. When it is flipped over and you get close, the message "Hold RB to flip... wait, what? How did you do that?" will appear. You can keep flipping it back and forth.
# Breathing under water in Sierra 117 mission

At the end of the level, when the Pelican arrives after you have rescued Johnson, it destroys the two Covenant ships, one being above the water just outside of where Johnson is held. The other one is above the water in the place just before the Pelican lands. You can climb in. Once the Covenant ship is destroyed on the side where it picks you up, the debris that remains will float on the water. Jump onto it, and let it sink. After that, all you can do is just jump from one piece of debris to the other. If you touch the ground, you will die.
# Monkeys with teddy bear in Sierra 117 mission

After you come into contact with the snipers in the woods, follow the left rock path to find a strange family of monkeys holding a teddy bear.
# Hidden area in Tsavo Highway mission

After the part where you exit your Warthog, jump across the bridge, and kill the Brute and two Grunts that are attacking your men. Turn directly around, facing toward where you came from. Look to your left, and you will see a structure. Go up to the wall on the structure, and look to your right. There should be a pathway. Follow the path until you get on top of a bridge-like structure. There should be some dead UNSC Marines, a sniper rifle, and some other ammunition.
# Leave level boundary in Valhalla multiplayer map

Go to the ocean barrier (the side with the ocean). Then, you and another player must get a Mongoose and Wraith. Have one player drive the Mongoose into the barrier. Keep accelerating, and have the other player get into the Wraith. Drive behind the Mongoose inside the Wraith, and use the boost. You must be close for the Mongoose to go through. Once you hit it, the other player must jump out once he or she is pass the barrier.

As a franchise grows, several titles are made they become stale. When another developer takes over for the original, it almost always spells disaster. Transferring a hit series on a console to a handheld is sketchy at moments. With those three things in mind, here is only one thing that must be known about Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters - everyone needs to buy this game. Not out of a desperate plea to bring the game back to the console before it is forgotten in handheld limbo. No. Its because Rachet and Clank: Size Matters is one of the best PSP games to date and with High Impact Games being new to the developing thing, it would be easy to harp on everything about the game. However, the truth is there are not that many things to harp on. In fact, Size Matters, instead of doing the same old same old, has brought a few nice additions while giving you the same great gaming experience.

The story begins after Deadlocked, the last installment of the series on the PlayStation 2, with our heroes on a much needed and a well deserved vacation. Much like all games that begin with the heroes on vacation, Ratchet's and Clank's rest and relaxation time is cut short as they are drawn into a whole new adventure. A young girl, Luna, a self-proclaimed fan of theirs, wants to see more of there hero-ish ways. Once she is kidnapped, your journey begins. Along the way, you will rediscover the forgotten genius inventor race called Technomites. Soon you will discover that there is more to the story than just rescuing a kidnapped girl. However, the storyline is not anything new. Much like its predecessors, Size Matters follows the same formula of "do something good - discover the deep underlying truth of the quest" that has become more of a staple than the arsenal of the franchise.

One of the doubtable aspects of this PSP title was that it is a PSP title. Since the console version uses both analog sticks and the eight buttons on the controls, one would think that a PSP Ratchet and Clank wouldn't be able to do the things we have grown to love about the series, and they would think wrong. The beauty of the game is the fact that High Impact made Ratchet not only do all the things he had done before, but made it easier for his controller as well. The only problem is it might take some time to get used to the switch between the one analog stick, for moving, to the directional pad, which is for strafing. Even this is minor because after a few minutes of play you'll be switching between them with ease. Aside from getting used to this new way of playing, the only other action that takes a little practice is the long jump (L+R a brief pause then X), but this is equally quick to become accustomed to. Cycling through your vast array of weaponry is extremely simple as well, you just hit the triangle button and then you have a new weapon. Speaking of the weapons, you can upgrade them with add-ons and use experience points to make them bigger and badder. This increases the longevity of your weapon and makes them more fun to use.

One of the other cool things is that you won't just be controlling Ratchet the whole time; Clank gets some playtime as well. In a limited amount of levels, which is unfortunate, Clank skyrockets into space where you will control him, ala Starfox style, for a really fun, albeit, reflex heavy gameplay experience. Also, with Clank, you can control other robots to help solve problems and use Clank to make your way through smaller spaces. With the WiFi multiplayer feature, you can download exclusive missions and collect bonus items that you can trade back and forth between friends.

The graphics really shine on Size Matters. With it being a handheld title, you would expect less from the graphics. Here, on the other hand, Size Matters equals, if not surpasses, the graphic experience of its PS2 big brothers. The environments and characters are slick, clean, and very pleasing as the camera whips around the action. The camera system itself is refreshing. Not to say it is not without faults, because it has them, no matter how small, the camera for a majority of the time is spot on with where it needs to be. Even if it gets stuck, which is a small amount of the time, you can always readjust with the L and R triggers. In addition to the advanced graphics, the sounds and voice acting are also great, but there is a problem. At certain parts of the game, if you switch between menus too quickly, or resume the game from sleep mode, you will have a brief silence while the game readjusts. This small glitch should not have even been present.

Even with its small glitches, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters accomplishes one thing with ease - a fun and enjoyable time. The replayability is high, and since it should only take about five hours, it is also frequent replayable. After you play through one time, you will be able to play through with the upgraded weapons you had at the end. Size Matters proves that size really isn't all that important all the time - even a gaming world full of "large and in charge" gaming consoles. Most importantly, Size Matter reminds us why we bought a PSP.

# Easy Bolts

Get as high of a Bolt multiplier as possible, then enter or reenter the Dream Realm. You should appear on a small island. Break the boxes and the small shack to get about 5,000 to 10,000 Bolts (50,000 Bolts in Challenge mode). Go to the second island and kill the birds that fly through the wall, then destroy the two shacks and boxes on the island. From that you should get about 30,000 to 40,000 Bolts (120,000 in Challenge mode). In Normal mode, jump in the water and get eaten by a fish and repeat. In Challenge mode, go to the white portal on the first island (which should be there after completing the Dream Realm). Exit the Dream Realm through it, then reenter and repeat as many times as desired.

Start a Challenge mode game. Once you get your Polarizer Gadget, go back to Metalis. Next to your ship is a grid in the wall. Use your Polarizer on it, then go through the level to get your Titanium Bolt. Then, use your teleport to get back to your ship. Continue until you get to Dayni Moon, but try not to finish this level. You will need the boxes at the start. First, try to get your Bolt multiplier up as high as possible without getting hit. Try going on the Clank platform over from the ship and use the Titan Deadeye Mine weapon to kill anything that moves. Then, get in the ship and go back to Metalis. Use the teleport to go where your Bolt was and get the boxes. One hyper strike should do it. Then, teleport back to your ship and go to Dayni Moon. Get the boxes at the start. If you need to do the same thing with the Deadeye Mine weapon to get your multiplier up, do it quickly. Then, go back to your ship and travel to Metalis to repeat the process.

Is MLB 07 "major-ly-boring" or did Sony find a way to revamp baseball games?

Sony is stepping up to bat once again with MLB 07: The Show. Although the series has always presented baseball as a fun game with great controls, the series has given us little to talk about lately. Sony always introduced little mini-game style modes with each game lately, but nothing serious to change the game or make it better. This time, it's different. MLB 07: The Show gives us the king of all baseball games.

The PS2 version of MLB 07: The Show delivers all the same goodies as the PS3 version, but with lower res graphics and no tilt controller, of course. It features the usual modes in a baseball game such as Season and Exhibition, etc., but it delivers a much deeper MLB experience thanks to the following modes and additions:

# Road to the Show (A role playing game which forces the player to complete both offensive and defensive goals.)
# Online League Play (Allows a player to create their own league of baseball teams for online play)
# Enhanced MLB Ticker (Online stat tracker which now tracks who is on which base, etc.)
# Real Time Rosters (Allows a player to use the exact same lineup as a team had on a certain day they played)

Besides being extremely accurate in the roster and stat area, the gameplay is now more realistic and accurate than ever, making the gameplay a bit more difficult, but more enjoyable for the baseball simulation fan.

Unlike last year's focus on batting accuracy, this year's MLB game has a huge focus on improved pitching. Even though your pitcher may be skilled at throwing certain types of pitches, if you rely on one type too much, the rest of your pitches may lag a bit in performance. No, that may not keep you from using the same pitch repeatedly, but the fact that your opponent will catch on will certainly keep you from repeating pitches. If you're a noob and don't know much about reading a batter, then you'll certainly benefit from the advice from both your catcher and the umpire. Also, pitching the ball is still easy as SCEA isn't copying EA's analog stick swing mechanism. You'll still be using triangle, X, circle, and square to perform pitches. One other new feature is a rating system which gives you an idea of what pitches are your strongest, based upon the pitcher you are currently using.

Your catcher will study the batter and give you advice on what types of pitches to throw, while the umpire's personality will give you an idea on how he will call the game. The batter benefits in this game as well, as the game will tell you if you missed a hit due to being early or late or due to being too far from the base. You shouldn't always worry about batting if you end up with an umpire who loves calling balls. You'll probably walk without having to try too hard.

Fielding has changed a bit due to a meter that determines how hard you throw the ball. The longer you hold a button down, the harder the throw will be. Unfortunately, sometimes the CPU will force you to throw with light strength no matter what. I suppose it makes certain a ball doesn't go past its intended point in case a fielder misses a catch.

Stealing bases before fielders can tag you is much easier as well, as base stealing is now programmable via the new Baserunner targeting system. Instead of worrying about trying to get your first basemen to run from 1st to 3rd, you just hit a button to direct a runner to a base. No physical button mashing work for you.

The other features in the game haven't changed, but they don't need to. MLB's main focus is on enhanced pitching and delivering a truly realistic MLB experience, even outside of the physical aspect of the game. One mode that was altered, though, was Road to the Show. Instead of traditional team focus, you'll focus on the create-a-player of your choice and do whatever he has to during the season. Some players have more benefits than others. Outfielders are at a disadvantage since they play based upon how far a batter hits or how far the basemen throw the ball. There's hardly anyway to improve the stats of such a player when there's no way to play constantly.

Most of 07 is incredibly realistic, and the only major problems you'll see in 07 is bad camera angles in Road to the Show mode and graphics that can't quite compare to the PS3 version. On the plus side, since you'll probably want to be logged in during your gameplay no matter what you're doing, you can do it free as most PS2 online games have always been free.

The new features add depth to a game that's already on top of its league. MLB is the only officially licensed baseball game currently available and has little competition even from 2K Sports and EA.

If MLB 07: The Show sounds too overwhelming for those who are used to simple pitching, I won't recommend it, but for those never bought a MLB game or those who love collecting each game in the series, I must recommend it for MLB 07: The Show delivers more realistic baseball action than any game I've ever played.

Major League Baseball 2K7 is in the ballpark, but it's not what I would call a home run

Year after year, the game of baseball remains unchanged, but until a video game reaches perfection, it better be offering new features.Marginally improved, but far from perfect, Major League Baseball 2K7 is certain to disappoint hardcore baseball fans. At least the ones that care about reality and attention to detail, as far as facts and stats are concerned. Major League Baseball 2K7 is incredibly inconsistent with its presentation. The players' stats are full of errors, the announcers make comments that would make you believe they are watching another game, and there are some impossible animations that will have players facing in the wrong position. Some of these animations are harmless, but others, such as the fielder with his back to the ball, can cost you the game. The good news is that the gameplay is pretty good.

Major League Baseball 2K7 would definitely not be my choice for game-of-the-year. It appears to be in a transition stage. It contains many of the same elements of '06 but not enough new features of its own. Adopting these elements and slightly refining them is certainly commendable, but there should be a lot more to this title. As it is, I would liken this version to an expansion pack or re-title it 06-and-a-half. Personally, I would wait for next year's version because there's little here that you haven't already played. What I really like about the game is that it allows you greater control over a variety of often-neglected elements such as fielding, base running, and the ability to move the catcher in the optimum position. Batting and pitching are also more accessible and fun. The controls take a little while to get used to, but after the learning curve, you'll feel as though you're playing a great arcade game. There's plenty of challenge as the A.I. is unpredictable and capable of a variety of pitches, hits, errors, and general nuances which make them appear almost human. They can be quite aggressive at stealing bases, and as soon as you're on to them, they'll act all conservative. They will play off the batter, waiting for the best opportunity to make a run for it. Even when they do start running, they don't run any faster than your top players. The problem is trying to get your fielders to dive for the ball. Oftentimes, you won't be given the option, and when you force a dive, you're almost guaranteed to come up empty handed.

Who doesn't like the hit stick system? It's a great concept that breaks from the traditional button-mashing system. It feels more natural using the stick, and even though there are several moves, it eventually will feel like one flowing action instead of a combination. First, you have to predict where you imagine the ball is going to be thrown. You can move this target area immediately after the pitch. The action button swings the bat and the stick is used to add some power and direction to the hit. Pressing up increases the power of your hit, and by moving it to the left or right, you can attempt to have that ball land right between the fielders, instead of handing them a gift. Those that prefer the old-school style of batting have that option, so nobody should be complaining.

Pitching is done exactly as it was in last year's version. You can have a third-person perspective or use the batter's view box. It all depends on whether you want to see the pitch coming or going. I can't tell you which I liked the best, but it was fun to mix it up. Both perspectives work well, and I always felt in total control. Throwing curves takes a bit of practice, as you have to allow for the break. Throw the ball higher than normal and off to one side. It feels weird at first but once you adjust to the game's physics, it will all seem second nature. It almost feels like curling - in space. Yes, I am Canadian.

Some of the plays that you'll see will remind you of a great Major League game. There are some incredible high-flying catches, grand slams, and runners thrown out by players throwing the ball between their legs. But there are some pretty awful animations as well, such as some pitches and the dives that just don't seem to register regardless of how close you are to the ball. The game looks fine at first glance or from a distance, but the closer you get, the more generic things look - especially the players' faces. Crowds and ballparks are well represented with just enough detail to appease me, even though it's not much different than last year's graphics.

Joe Morgan provides the color, and along with his partner, Jon Miller, you've got a duo on hand that is the baseball equivalent of Brooks and Dunn. Unfortunately in this game, the duo is more closely associated with Laurel and Hardy. It's not the commentators' fault, it's just that some of their comments are triggered at the wrong time. They will often get the number of innings and games in a series wrong. Their lines are delivered convincingly enough, it's just too bad that they lose credibility because of the flawed game. The stadiums are a little subdued as far as ambient noise goes, but the soundtrack rocks.

If you can live with the flaws, and it's not impossible, then you're likely to get enough replay value out of the multiplayer components to warrant a purchase. There are online tournaments that will pit you against other fanatics. Keep in mind that they will face the exact same limitations as you, so you can be assured that you'll be evenly matched even though you might not feel that way against the A.I. However, my advice is to wait until the spring and see how some of the other baseball games compare. I don't know about you but I'm still shoveling snow up here. It's too early to be thinking about baseball anyway.

A great title for Yu-Gi-Oh! fans! All others need not apply.

Before the review gets underway, there are some essential questions you must ask yourself before continuing: Have you watched the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime in it's entirety? Are you a Duel Master? Do you know what a Duel Master is? Do you attend anime conventions and spend your time in the cardroom playing Yu-Gi-Oh!?

If you answered "no" to one of these questions, you still might be able to play this game. If you answered "no" to two, then you should probably start looking at another game. This game is A+ material if you rock at Yu-Gi-Oh!. However, if you are not a huge fan of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise (like myself), expect to feel dazed, confused, and otherwise bewildered by this title.

Of course, the game takes into account the possible Yu-Gi-Oh! newbie who may inadvertently pick up the title out of sheer curiosity. Woe to that newbie. There is a tutorial section that is buried in the main menu (the game thrusts you into the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe by helping you to create your own Yu-Gi-Oh!-styled character almost immediately, so you'll have to do some backtracking). The tutorial explains things pretty well, the only problem is the sheer magnitude of information required to play this game. I must say I have newfound respect for the Yu-Gi-Oh! kids I see playing at anime conventions. I never realized how much there was involved. If you decide to go through the tutorial mode, expect to set aside at least two hours of your time. And that's if you're a quick learner (regrettably, I was still completely lost at this stage and probably should have gone through the entire tutorial again).

However, with what information I did have, I started up the CPU duel function of the game. I picked from a handful of pre-made decks (I was definitely not ready to make my own yet), and tested my newfound skills against the computer. And got creamed. However, I found myself learning (albeit incredibly slowly) about some type of strategy and how I could play some of the cards from my deck. Although I was still far from good, I felt at least competent.

Controls are very simple and literally involve picking up cards with the stylus or an on-screen pointer and playing them on the correct spot on the board. The gameplay is exactly the same as playing Yu-Gi-Oh! cards in other settings, so it's really uncomplicated as long as you know what you're doing.

From here I decided to try to make my own deck. I think now would be a good opportunity to mention that the game features 1600 Yu-Gi-Oh! cards to make decks with. Of course, you don't start out with this many, but there are still a lot of cards to choose from. And because decks can contain anywhere between 40-80 cards, it can take quite awhile to create a deck. I'm not gonna lie; I threw in the towel at this stage. Because I was such a newbie, I kept making mistakes and putting things in the wrong places. I decided that the pre-made decks were still the way to go for me.

If you do want to gather all 1600 cards for your deck-making pleasure, expect to do some work. You'll have to earn money via tournaments, and buy packs of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards from the game's store. The store experience is wonderfully realistic because it requires you to buy different packs from different series (just like you would in real life) without knowing what's in them. I bought a few packs from one of the series and was dismayed to see that most of the packs contained duplicate cards that I already had. But it adds to the realism of the whole Yu-Gi-Oh! experience, and that's pretty cool if you ask me.

Another play mode besides the CPU play is the challenge mode. This mode offers the real Yu-Gi-Oh! player a world of choices to challenge themselves to different Yu-Gi-Oh! puzzles, and different handicap modes of play. This mode is really great if you want to hone in on certain skills that you might be lacking in and provides a great practice arena for different modes of specialized play.

Duel Monsters: World Championship 2007 on the first Nintendo DS. Then, join the chatroom through Yu-Gi-Oh! Nightmare Troubadour or Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Spirit Caller on the second Nintendo DS. If you joined the chatroom with Yu-Gi-Oh! LP Survival mode

All the power of Goku without the Hunger Pains

For many years now, Dragonball, as a whole, has captured the imaginative need for brutality in our minds. It seems that every year we are granted with a new sampling into the world of DBZ. Granted, the shows have been over for a while now, and the movies have regrettably stop coming out, but that does not change the fact that we love Dragonball.

Most will always say that Dragonball Z was the best, due to the intense fighting sequences, albeit some went on forever and ever, most notably the Frieza fights. Well, Atari and Dimps agree with the fans. Which is certainly why, year after year, we receive another offering of chaotic anime fighters with some of the best fighting moves this side of Tekken.

In fact, it should come as no surprise that after the first installment on the PSP a little over a year ago, we now have a brand new anime fighting game to carry around with us. However, the main question should be: why should we waste our time on yet another Dragonball Z fighter? Simply put, because you know you want it.

Dragonball Z: Shin Budokai - Another Road, aside from being a mouthful to say, offers a different take on the Dragonball mythos. The story follows what might have happen if Majin Buu was awoken in the Future Trunks Timeline. The end result might actually surprise you. Of course, according to that storyline, most of the other Z fighters had perished and only Gohan and Trunks were left to defend the Earth. Then that would mean that none of the other Z fighters were there, and then the androids would still be there, and 18 would not be on the sides of angels. Of course, I could go on as to why certain things should not be available in the game, but the main idea behind this story is that this is a "what if" scenario, so everyone remove any context of continuity from your mind since this is Another Road.

The gameplay is the same tried and true formula of the previous installment. Meaning that, just like before, you can dive right into the battles on this installment, whether you are an experienced DBZ fighter fan or new to the world of Dragonball. The beauty of the game is that the button mashers will have no problem advancing in the game. Still, on the other side of the coin, the ones that are looking for a challenge to the game, you're in luck. You can spend time on mastering the different combos for devastating moves. In addition to hours of mastering the combos, we will also be able to transform our character during battle, very much in the same vein as Tenkaichi 2.

The modes resemble all of the standard modes of gameplay. Of course, Another Road will be the storyline of the game. In arcade, you will be able to hone your skills before taking on rivals in the DBZ universe. The networking returns this time with the same wireless player versus player, which is kind of disheartening considering they could have advanced on this aspect, even if just a little. Finally, there is the Z Challenge mode. Here you can test your metal in three different match types. Survival has you fighting as many enemies as you can before being defeated. Time attack has you defeating you enemies as fast as you can and challenge. The most interesting of the three has you squaring off like normal, except you must achieve a certain goal in order to defeat the challenge.

Successfully complete Arcade mode with any character to unlock the "Bonus" option under the options menu. This option allows you to listen to game music and play the Dragon Click mini-game.
