It also lets you keep your Facebook feed set to Recent News and display as many extra Older Posts as you want without having to click Older Posts. And it have lots of other handy filters to control exactly what you want to see in your news feed.

Suddenly today the Facebook feed started hiding FarmVille posts in huge hidden groupings marked with a “SIMILAR POSTS” link, which you have to click to see the posts. I just saw one grouping that contained 74 hidden posts! Anyone who plays social networking games like FarmVille knows that this means we can’t see all the posts of collectibles, Mystery Eggs, bonuses, gifts requests, etc. It’s so easy to miss the little “SIMILAR POSTS” headings.

The groupings also seem to change, so if you go to another page and back to your Home page, the “73 SIMILAR POSTS” grouping might now be a “49 SIMILAR POSTS” grouping, with the remaining posts showing up individually now. Who can keep track of which posts we’ve seen or not??

I know that non-gamers don’t always want to see the constant deluge of gamer’s posts, but is this really the best solution you could come up with? What’s up with that, Facebook?

How much time could you save by working your FarmVille farm 9 plots at a time? Exactly. But the last thing most of us need is yet another game to learn and keep track of. Wow, was I surprised that it took less than one day to reach Level 10 and unlock the Hot Rod Tractor! And I only spent about 2-3 hours actual playing time on Mafia Wars. [Note: You must be at least Level 12 in FarmVille to unlock the Hot Rod Tractor.]

Steps to Reach Level 10 in Mafia Wars and Unlock FarmVille Hot Rod Tractor

[Disclaimer: I am not a Mafia Wars expert. I'm simply sharing what I did to reach Level 10 in less than a day.]

1. Start playing Mafia Wars. In FarmVille, go the the Market and click Vehicles. Under the Hot Rod Tractor with the big M next to it, click Get This. On the pop-up message, click PLAY. [If you get a "Page not found" error, you need to unblock Mafia Wars in your applications settings.]
2. Create your screen name. Choose a good one, just for fun, since you’ll have to pay to change it later. A street name or something like a Sopranos character, maybe.
3. Do jobs. The goal is to earn lots of Experience Points so you can level up quickly. To do this, click Jobs under the Mafia Wars logo and start doing jobs. Pretty soon you’ll run out of energy (shown along the top, under the Mafia Wars logo), and you’ll have to wait for your energy to refill. To do jobs, you’ll also need cash. You can earn cash from jobs, but you’ll earn more if you have lots of neighbors (members of your Mafia) because you get money from their activities, too. Keep doing jobs until you reach the level you want. I suggest doing the jobs that don’t require you to buy expensive items first.
4. Add to your Mafia (add neighbors). Go to the following Facebook Fan Page to find FarmVille players who also play Mafia Wars:

   I recommend this source of neighbors instead of Mafia Wars groups because  these neighbors all play FarmVille, so you’ll get the added bonus of all their FarmVille goodies posted to your Facebook feed.

5. Increase your Energy capacity. Near the upper-right of your Home page in Mafia Wars, it says Profile. Anytime Profile has a +1 or + any number after it, click Profile and then add all your available points to your Energy. Energy is the main thing you need to do jobs so you’ll earn experience points and level-up. Your energy level is displayed below the Mafia Wars logo (look for the little lightening bolt).
6. Visit your Mafia Wars Home page often. If you’re ever lost, click Home under the Mafia Wars logo (don’t click Home in the Facebook menu). Your Mafia Wars Home page will usually point you to what job to do next. If in doubt, just keep doing jobs until you run out of energy and then wait a while until your energy restores itself.

How to Unlock All the FarmVille Hot Rods

• Unlock Hot Rod Tractor: Play Mafia Wars to Level 10
• Unlock Hot Rod Harvester: Play Mafia Wars to Level 18 and Travel to Bangkok

How to Get FarmVille Neighbors to Help on Your Farm and Keep Coming Back

In FarmVille you earn more experience points (XP) and FarmVille coins when you harvest crops your neighbors have fertilized. You also get more coins and a greater chance of Mystery Eggs when neighbors feed the chickens in your coop. You benefit a lot when neighbors to help. So, here are some strategies to entice them to keep coming back to your farm:

Have a Lot of Neighbors

The more neighbors you have, the more likely all your crops will always be fertilized and your chickens fed. You can have up to 300 FarmVille neighbors.

To get maximum XP and coins from fertilized crops and fed chickens, you need neighbors who play FarmVille often, are motivated to play, and are likely to help on your farm often. The ideal neighbors will help on your farm every day, which is the maximum allowed.

Block in Your Farmer

Some FarmVille players won’t help on a farm where the farmer is not blocked in because it takes too long to wait while the farmer walks all over the place. By blocking your farmer into his/her initial position, you also block in your neighbor’s farmer when they visit, which means they earn their XP and coins as fast as possible. This is a courtesy to your neighbors, but it also makes your farmer much speedier when planting and harvesting on your farm.

Always Have Crops Growing or Plowed Plots

Make sure your farm always has something to fertilize (crops or plowed plots) so neighbors always earn maximum XP and coins, to make it worth their while to visit. Otherwise, they may not bother to come back.

Have a Chicken Coop

Neighbors get 1 XP, 4 coins, and a chance at a Mystery Egg when they feed the chickens in your coop. Some FarmVille players won’t bother to visit a farm without a coop.

Fill your Coop with Golden Chickens

A neighbor who discovers a Golden Mystery Egg while feeding your coop will likey make it a point to return often. The only way your coop can produce Golden Mystery eggs is if it contains golden chickens, and a coop full of only golden chickens produces only Golden Mystery Eggs. Post a FarmVille Invitation Asking Neighbors to Fertilize Your Crops

Each time you begin planting seeds in FarmVille, after a minute or two you should get a prompt asking if you want to invite neighbors to fertilize your crops. Also, when you’re helping on neighbors’ farms, you’ll get prompt at the first farm you visit after you’ve fertilized the crops asking if you want to tell neighbors about your good work, and maybe they’ll return the favor.

Ask for Help in Your Facebook Status

You can occasionally post a request as your Facebook status asking FarmVille neighbors to help on your farm. You can also post requests asking your non-FarmVille friends to start playing and become your neighbors.

Help on Your Neighbors’ Farms

Whenever you help on a neighbor’s farm, they should get a notice that you helped, which may prompt them to return the favor.

Send “Thank you” Notices

When your crops have been fertilized, click the two current-offers icons along the left edge of your FarmVille screen until you see one that says, “Send your friends a message to thank them:

The way it works is you respond to a friend’s request for a Valentine and you get a reward of 1000 coins, 20 XP, or other items – up to ten times a day.

But what you may not know is that a programming “feature” enables you to:

• Send 10 valentines and get all 10 gifts for yourself even if you have only one Valentine Request
• Send all 10 valentines to the same friend and still get 10 gifts for yourself

Here’s how:

1. On your Facebook Requests page, find a FarmVille Valentine Request and click Send Love.
2. On the page displaying the gift options, click Send underneath the type of valentine that give you the type of gift you want (XP, coins, etc.).

Having lots of FarmVille coins makes it easier to earn fast XP, but there are also a lot of free or cheap ways to earn XP. To earn XP, you either have to spend time working or spend FarmVille coins, or a combination of both.

Which Methods Earn XP the Fastest?

If your priority in FarmVille is to earn XP quickly, you’ll want to get the most XP per minute of time you work in FarmVille. We’ve ranked the XP-earning methods below by how fast they earn XP per your amount of effort, in XP per minute or XP per FarmVille coins spent. (Our ratings are based on estimates of actual time spent working rather than the full elapsed time including waiting for crops to grow, etc. For example, growing soybeans requires only a few seconds of actual work per plot, and the rest of the time you’re waiting for them to grow, during which you can do other things to earn XP.)

Buy Items at the Market

[225 XP/minute, costs 1 XP/20 coins for hay bales]

When you buy items in the market, you usually earn XP. The cheapest item is a hay bale, which costs 100 coins and earns 5 XP.

TIPS: Buy lots of hay bales. Delete them if you want, but keep them at least until you earn the Pack Rat ribbon (click here for best ribbons to earn XP), which earns up to 425 XP for having up to 250 decorations (hay bales or otherwise) on your farm at once. If you have lots of coins and want to level up really fast, you can buy buildings, but you’ll pay a premium price of 100 coins per XP, instead of the hay bales cheaper rate of 1 XP per 20 coins. Buildings will also get you Architect ribbons, which earn up to 1875 XP by having up to 30 buildings on your farm at once (click here for details).

Trade in Collections

[150XP/minute, FREE]

Gather items to complete each collection, and you can trade in each collection for 250 XP, 5000 coins and 5 gallons of fuel. Get collectible items as gifts from FarmVille friends, or when friends post them to the Facebook feed, or when they randomly pop up as you work on your or your neighbors’ farms. You can trade in each collection over and over, anytime you have all 6 items in the collection. (To see what’s in your collections, click the trophy button at the lower right of the FarmVille screen, then click Collections.)

TIPS: When you click a friend’s post in the Facebook feed to get a collectible, and then you see the confirmation screen showing what item you got, the item is already in your FarmVille gift box. You don’t need to click OK or go into FarmVille, just click your browser’s back button. This saves a lot of time. (The same is true for adopted animals, Mystery Eggs, or anything else your friends post.) Also, you can trade in the same collection over and over. Save up to 10 of each item in your Collections box, and you can even save more items in your gift box to replenish your collection after you’ve traded one in. Grow Crops

[120 XP/minute for unfertilized strawberries, 240 XP/minute for fertilized Level-3 Mastery strawberries]

You can make a whole lot of XP per hour growing crops, especially if you have the largest number of plots possible, your neighbors fertilize your crops (adding 1XP per plot at harvest), and you’ve reached Level 3 Mastery of the crop you’re growing (adds more XP at harvest). Planting, plowing, and harvesting each plot requires about 1 second per plot using farm machinery or 4 seconds per plot without a tractor. So, growing strawberries using a tractor, seeder, and harvester would earn 2 XP per plot, plus more XP if they’re fertilized and you have Level-3 Mastery of strawberries.

TIPS: For the most XP, plant crops that earn the most XP in the shortest time. Usually, this will be berries, but check for special seasonal crops (such as Super Berries, Super Pumpkins, and Fire & Ice Roses), which can earn XP much faster. Once you’ve chosen a crop, keep growing it until you reach Level 3 Mastery to give you the extra XP at harvest. Also, invite your neighbors to fertilize your crops often for even more XP. Plus, you’ll earn even more XP from crop-related ribbons, such as Green Thumb (up to 180 XP for harvesting at least one plot of 17 different crops), Cream of the Crops (up to 250 for harvesting crops), Vegetable Virtuoso (up to 900 for harvesting vegetables), and Foremost Fruit Farmer (up to 900 for harvesting fruit crops), Lord of the Plow (up to 1800 for harvesting with a harvester), and Need for Seed (up to 1800 for planting with a seeder). Get Lots of Neighbors to Fertilize your Crops

When you harvest your crops, the plots that neighbors have fertilized earn an extra 1 XP per plot.

TIPS: To encourage neighbors to fertilize your crops, send an invitation to fertilize your crops (you’ll see a prompt when you’re planting seeds), or post a request as your Facebook status, and help on their farms and see if they repay the favor.

Work Towards Crop Mastery

[1 or more bonus XP per plot at harvest, FREE]

Once you have mastered a crop, meaning that you have planted enough plots of it to reach Level 3 Mastery of that crop, you’ll earn bonus XP on that crop every time you harvest it. If you’re growing crops anyway, using this method earns extra XP at no extra charge.

TIPS: The number of bonus XP varies by crop, but mastery of berries is supposed to give the greatest boost in bonus XP.

Help at Your Neighbors’ Farms

[23 XP/minute, FREE]

Each day you can earn 11 XP each for the first 20 FarmVille neighbors you help, and fewer XP for each additional FarmVille neighbor you help. It takes an average of about 28 seconds per neighbor. For each neighbor you earn:

• 5 XP for raking leaves, weeds, etc.
• 5 XP for fertilizing crops (1 XP per plot fertilized )
• 1 XP for feeding the chickens in the coop

TIPS: Earn XP fastest by not waiting for the chicken coop results message to appear before visiting the next neighbor (you’ll still see the message after you arrive at the next farm). Also, you can work fastest on farms where neighbors have blocked in their farmer so your farmer doesn’t have to take time to walk around. For the most XP per minute, visit only neighbors who have crops planted or plowed plots, a chicken coop, and who have their farmer blocked in.

Earn a total of 3 XP per plot when you plow, plant soybeans, and then delete them, at a total cost of 30 coins per plot. Planting soybeans earns 2 XP and costs 15 coins per plot, and plowing earns 1XP and costs 15 coins per plot.

TIPS: Delete plots faster by occasionally repositioning the screen so you don’t have to mouse very far from plots you’re deleting to the OK button on the “Are you sure you want to delete this object?” pop-up.

Plow and Delete Plots (No Planting)

If you’re buying decorations to earn XP, keep them all on your farm until you earn this ribbon.

How to Get Top Dollar from your Ready-to-Harvest Chickens

To make the most FarmVille coins from your ready-to-harvest chickens that aren’t in your coop, try the Lonely Chicken Method. This method appears to pay more per chicken than harvesting them inside a coop full of chickens or outside the coop. Then after you used up your ready-to-harvest chickens, you can make more coins again and again using the Unlimited Coin Method (click here for details).

Note: If your coop has been fed by neighbors (to find out, mouse over it and it will say if it has been fed by friends), and you want to make Mystery Eggs, fill and harvest your coop first before using the Lonely Chicken Method. Your friends’ feeding increases the chances of getting a Mystery Egg, but your chances are greatest when you harvest a full coop. Don’t let your friends’ work go to waste.

How the Lonely Chicken Method Works

You earn more FarmVille coins per chicken when you put one “ready” chicken (with a pink indicator above its head) into an empty coop and then harvest the coop. Then when you remove the chicken from the coop, it will no longer show as “ready” and you can repeat the process with another “ready” chicken.

The Lonely Chicken Pays More Coins than Any Other Harvest Method

Harvesting a coop containing one golden chicken averages about $296 coins per golden chicken, versus harvesting a coop full of chickens at an average of $184 per golden chicken. The only way you can harvest a single chicken in a coop is by putting a “ready” chicken in by itself. (If you put a “not ready” chicken in, the coop won’t be harvestable.) Therefore, you should get the most coins out of your “ready” chickens by harvesting them as the only chicken in a coop than by harvesting them outside the coop or inside a full coop. You can use these methods with any color chicken, but golden chickens earn the most.

THE LONELY CHICKEN METHOD

1. Remove all the chickens from your chicken coop. (To do this, click the coop > Look Inside > Remove)
2. Move a ready-to-harvest chicken into the coop. This immediately makes your coop ready to harvest. The higher level the chicken, the more coins you get.
3. Harvest the coop.
4. Remove the chicken from the coop.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 until you run out of ready-to-harvest chickens.
