Lineage 2 now and back then

This won't be a review as I've made review few years back. This is how I feel about the changes of this game. I've started to play at the time of C3 and continued through C4 and C5.
The game back then was amazing - with strong medieval and magic theme, stunning art, amazing music and the gameplay was actually really well balanced and fun. Back then it was very easy to make new friends, play with them and relax. And you can make PvPs at low level and even PKs - don't get me wrong - I don't like to PK players but I don't get upset of being PKed. And its fun when big crowd of newbies chase after a PK. And its fun when somebody tries to PK you and at the end he is at the ground.
What about the grinding that the American players hate so much? Actually for me this was time to enjoy the game, to kill mobs and spent time with friends. More monsters to kill = more time with friends in a party. I don't like doing quests - run to location X talk with NPC Y do a pointless errand, run a lot more. I like to fight mobs and at every level Lineage 2 offers you a lot of different mobs to fight so I don't get bored.
Now about the players strength. Back then you can easily kill mobs at your level. Even level 70 sps could kill level 70-72 mobs - one or two without burning its all mana. The strong ones were the Raid Bosses but even they wasn't this tough as now. And they ran slower ... Now its almost impossible to solo high level monsters - but I like to play solo. I like to play with friends but I like to play solo when I feel it. Now I can't. You need a party of several people to kill a single mob. And some of the classes now are pointless as they are too much nerfed. I remember the time when we with one party fought in LOA and it was so much fun. And at the time of summoners I really like the trains and the train killing.
Now about the art. The new art of the game is soo much WOW like that at times I question myself what exactly am I playing. The old art is stylish, with music matching exactly the location and creating a feeling that you are living in a medieval fairy tail. The new art is flashy, with too much colors and shiny things like sparkling vampires. Lineage 2 was the most beautiful and amazing game, why are they doing this to it? Now at this new locations the feeling is gone and you only get the flashy stuff. And the clothes. Back then the clothes were actually cool and in the theme of the game. Now are sparkling as sparkling ... and those cloaks are ugly and look so artificial. I miss all the starting towns. I won't even talk about the skills and the gameplay after level 80.
With every change now the game feels less and less like Lineage 2 and more and more like WOW. I simply want one thing - server with C3 or C4 on it. And if they like to develop the game to made new territories with stronger monsters.

Now I can't even play for long as I get easily frustrated. I miss the old Lineage2.

And even now when I listen to this I get goosebumps.

Guild Wars 2
Guild Wars 2 is the sequel of the popular MMORPG Guild Wars. The new game will feature new game-engine, changes in character development and better PVP system. It will emphasize more on the massively multiplayer part. Guild Wars 1 was pretty good game so I think Guild Wars 2 will be a hit.

Rift
Rift is a fantasy MMORPG that looks very promising. Its release date is just few days from now so I’m very excited! I'll write more later.

The Exiled Realm of Arborea
The Exiled Realm of Arborea or Tera Online is another promising MMORPG game that will be released this year. It will be somewhat unique with its non-targeted PVP system. Really this click to select and then attack system was getting very boring.

Star Wars: The Old Republic
Star Wars: The Old Republic is an upcoming sci-fi, mmo game based in the Star Wars universe.

Harvest: Massive Encounter is an awesome (and I mean AWESOME) real time td and strategy game by Oxeye Game Studio. The game is not your usual tower defense type, but a unique, amazing and epic experience!

Story
Gold rush! Yeah, gold rush in space! Everyone wants to be rich. You also head the opportunity but there are the nasty aliens who stay between you and your success!
Gameplay
Truly epic! But lets start at the beginning. The game starts with a small base with two power plants and some power links. Yep, everything needs energy, so the player will build power plants and links most of the time. The mining is very important, cause it’s the only way to obtain money. And depending on the mode the player will need to build its defense structures - lasers and missile turrets. The lasers are really cool – you can link them to obtain a high-power beam.

Some game tricks and cheats:

To build a structure faster click on it and choose the option to have all linked power nodes to focus their energy on it.
To expand the map - build structures at the edges.
Don’t forget to sell your harvesters when the nearest minerals are depleted.

YS: The Oath in Felghana

These days I had the chance to play one awesome Japanese game – YS.
The YS series are several RPG games but here I’ll talk only for YS: The Oath in Felghana. I have no background information about the series, so if you are an old YS fan, don’t shoot at me, those are my first impressions only.
The series are centered at the adventures of Adol, our main hero. As every hero, he is cool, his favorite breakfast is fried monsters and of course he has to save the world and the young lady. Yep, there is a beautiful, blondie young lady to be saved.

Gameplay
The game controls are smooth and after some time I actually forgot that the real world is outside the screen. The game world is beautiful but deadly so the players don’t have much time to relax. The average monsters are somewhat easy to be beaten but there are strong boss monsters. During his journey, Adol finds some hidden treasures – powerful artifacts that help him in some tough situations. For example the first boss is unpassable without the Firedragon Amulet. Some places on the map a too high and you can’t reach them unless you use the wind bracelet.

The Story
The game starts with short story as Adol and his friend arrived at Felghana. The game follows the story closely with series of quests that reveal the characters background and motivation. The plot is interesting even without the action but together they form an awesome adventure.

MMORPG
As I heard there is an MMORPG YS Online, currently in Open Beta. I’ll try to learn more and I’ll make a separate post about it. I hope it is as good as the series, I can’t wait to play it!

zOMG! is a combat MMO by Gaia Interactive. At first sight the game is quite entertaining for a browser based, flash MMO.

I haven’t played much today but my first impressions are very good.
The game seems to have enough depth and the gameplay isn’t boring. There are a lot of quests and an interesting story behind them. I’ll spent some more time playing and maybe tomorrow I’ll write a real review.

Atlantica Online is a turn-based, free-to-play, 3D MMORPG game by NDOORS. It is a fantasy game but the game map represents the real world with some real places.
The game features beautiful, high-quality graphics, cool music and fascinating story line.

Classes
Atlantica Online has nine available classes:

Sword character – his strong points are defense and vitality
Spear character – he can hit two enemies at once
Axe character – he is the character with greatest physical strength. He can attack three enemies simultaneously.
Gun character – long range attacker who can attack three enemies at once if they are in a straight line.
Bow character – character with low vitality and high evasion, who can attack enemies from the back row.
Cannon character – he attacks up to five enemies in a cross pattern. This character has much vitality but relatively low action powers.
Staff character – with low vitality and defense, the staff character is a magic attacker who can also support allies with recovery spells.
Maniac – he can attack an entire row at once. This character can be creating only if a player has a 100+ character.
Musician – this character can attack two enemies in a line. Musicians have DoD(Damage over Time) magic.

Mercenaries
Players do not fight alone like in the typical MMORPG genre, in Atlantica Online players are accompanied by mercenaries who fight alongside. New players obtain their first two mercenaries during the tutorial section of the game. There are several different mercenary types, each with its own strong points and unique style.

Battles
Cool turn based MMORPGs are relatively rare but Atlantica sure is one of them. The battle occurs in a separate world, the both parties are transferred there – it is a feature similar to Final Fantasy battlefields. Tactics plays great role here as the positioning of the character and the mercenaries is important for the final result of the battle.
The game offers PVP battles in different forms, guilds can even wage wars. The wars actually consist of pvp battles of max 3x3 players.

Lineage2 is one of the first and most awesome MMORPG games I’ve ever played. It has a fantasy world (the world of Aden), 36 classes, 6 races, countless quests, real castle sieges, real and fast PVP battles.
The game is pay to play and this is the only reason many people stay away of it but I think, it’s the only option for really fun gameplay.

I played Lineage 2 some time ago, in fact I spent more than a year, working during the day and playing during the night. This time was so fun, I haven’t played any other game with such enjoyment.

I got dragon, err … not really – Last Chaos first impressions

Last Chaos is cool, free-to-play MMORPG with a fantasy theme. I started to play it just recently but here is my review.

Sorcerer – first impression
After some time playing a mage I created a sorcerer and started again. The sorcerer is something between summoner and fighter with magic. He has some relatively strong summons and several close range attack skills. The summons aren’t fully controlled, you can only decide their mode – attack, attack second, defend and follow. They stay in attack mode very short interval of time so you can’t leave your character sitting somewhere and getting experience while you are away, drinking coffee.
I get pissed off because the summons leave attack mode if I move my character even a little. There is no such problem with attack second though.
The summoner is a weak character, maybe the weakest of the all Last Chaos characters. If you intend to PVP, choose another one. Or be prepared to think fast and consider your character’s weak and strong points.

Getting basic consumables
If you a newbie in Last Chaos you may have problems in obtaining consumables like HP and MP potions and so on. You can buy potions from one NPC in the town but the prices are too high. I had this problem – all my money went for potions even though I don’t use much.

Herb field

So what is the solution?
The game emphasizes much on the production. You can produce your own potions very easy – for hp potions you need to collect herbs, for mp potions – waves (or something like this) and for pet food for hatchling dragons and ponies you need to mine ore. Yep, you feed your pet pony with ore. Poor little creature. I can understand dragons eating ore, but horses? Also if your pet dragon or horse feels ill and its HP goes down you can give it some herbs. And if the creatures by any chance start to dislike you, you must feed it with waves and it will be the same again.
Sorry, I was talking about the potions. To produce potions from your ingredients you need a recipe and a skill. You have first level skill by default so you can collect materials and make first level potions. The recipe is obtained from the same NPC who sells potions. You need to learn some skills to produce better potions and collect more resources but be careful with your sp points.

Getting waves for MP potions

Ore is healthy breakfast for dragon babies.

Moon stones
You can obtain moonstones as a regular drop from the monsters. There are several levels of moonstones. You can exchange them for a random reward at the statue in the middle of the town.

Dragons and Dragon Hatchlings
To obtain a hatchling you need to finish a quest called Drake's Egg. You get the quest from Loraine, the NPC near the class masters. First thing you need to do is to obtain a Dragon Egg. It drops from the monsters around the town, I get even two for very short time. You can purchase an egg from the other players. With the egg, you talk again with Loraine, and she sends you to the second town to talk with some other NPC, I forgot his name now. Some archeologist, maybe. You teleport to the second town and talk with him and that’s the quest. Congrats, now you have baby dragon. To find the teleporter, search for a NPC with a teleporter before its name in the NPC list. It’s location is near the PVP arenas.
In the second town you can talk with any NPC for a direction. Don’t be shy, they are only Non Player Characters.

Cute

Horse and Pony
To get a pony you need to finish quest called Pan’s Flute. It is given by Loraine again, and it is very similar to the Dragon quest. At the end, you obtain funny, fat pony with short legs that eats ore and needs wave to like you.

The pets you obtain from these two quests are level 1 and they level up while you fight in their company. They get only a tiny bit of your experience and they level up very slow. I got bored even before my pet dragon reach level 2. Also, aggressive mobs tend to attack your pet first if you don’t attack them. So at the beginning pets are just a nuisance. Of course, it is cool to ride a horse or a dragon, but they level up so slow …

Funny

I’ll stop here for today. I must write something about the personal dungeons, fighting the Barlog and so on.

NEO Online or New Era Odyssey Online is a new fantasy MMORPG with many cool features. Its official closed beta is scheduled for February, 8th, so I look forward to try it and share my experience with you.

What I know about the game till now is that it offers great character development freedom, as any character can learn any skill as long as it has enough skill points. So you can have a sword-waving mage or a healing warrior.

The game will offer plenty of quests – from the important main story quests to minor and part-time quests. You can decide to share or not your quests with your party – it’s the first game I’ve ever seen with this option explicitly available in the interface.

PVP and PK
You can try your skill in a usual duel mode or choose to become a criminal (PK mode). Your character needs to be level 20 or above to be in a PK mode or to be PKed by other players so rest assured, on one will kill you until you feel good enough to fight back. .
The game offers three types of mass PVP – group battles, guild battles and territorial wars.

Canaan Online – another cute, browser-based MMO

Canaan Online is new browser MMORPG by gPotato. It is a free to play game with manga characters and fun, colorful world. It is a flash game so you don’t need an installation to play. The game is somewhat similar to Neverland Online.

Canaan Online offers four playable classes – Ranger, Priest, Warrior and Mage. Each class has its specific skills and style. Pets take main part in the game as they accompany your character in battles and fight.

First Steps
Your character will receive a quest right at the beginning – fight the flying piglet. You must defeat one of the cute flying piglets near the village. If you can’t find them, use the link on the monster name in the tutorial window. You will have a piglet as a pet to accompany you in your first battle. The game offers even an auto-combat mode for lazy players like me.

Overall Impression
Canaan is nice and relaxing game, perfect for people who don’t want to be too engaged in an online MMO.

Aika, finally some good news

Few days ago GPotato announced Aika’s closed beta is going to run from 3rd February to 9th February. More information about the closed beta can be found on the official website of the game http://aika.gpotato.com/.
The test will feature all 6 classes, 5 nations and 30 levels of character development.

Actually so many facts and rumors are spreading on the net that I can’t wait to try this game. I wonder why GPotato haven’t made it available yet. Aika is played in Korea for more than two years. I’ve heard that it has several gaming awards there.

In case you don’t know, Aika is beautiful, fantasy MMORPG that greatly emphasize on PVP or more likely RVR (Realm vs Realm) battles. The information about the game on the official site is too little and I don’t know Korean to learn more from their sites.

Edit: There is some fun information about the game on the official forum. And many, many fans. The community seems big and nice.

Last Chaos – awesome MMORPG game

Last Chaos is a free-to-play, 3D MMORPG with cool graphics and nice gameplay. The game looks incredibly similar to the popular pay to play MMORPG Lineage 2. More or less most of the free to play MMORPGs have problems with its gameplay. They sure look good but after some time the player finds no depth. In contrast, Last Chaos doesn’t have awesome graphics but its gameplay is ways above. I really was amazed to find myself addicted to a game so fast.

Graphics
The game has somewhat beautiful graphics with large castles, vast territories and strange monsters. There are also a lot of different pets and mounts with bright and cool graphics, they create part of the magic atmosphere in the game. The horses maybe are a bit to colorful but the overall impression isn’t bad.

Gameplay
One drawback of this cool game is the poor customization options of the game characters. I really prefer to have bigger choice.
When I play MMO games I prefer to play magic damage dealer so I created a mage character. At the beginning my mage was thrown in something called private dungeon – there you can fight different monsters (zombies and similar) and learn the interface. At the end of the dungeon I was teleported to the first town. What made me an impression was that the game has good number of players – many players were selling different goods and some number of newbies like me was fighting low level monsters outside the gates. There were also many players leveling their pets with low level mobs. The pets are something cool – with many different shapes and colors – not your usual stupid (or cute) looking pets but fantasy creatures with nice and eye-catching design.
The monsters also make an impression – they are not grouped by types and you can see many different kinds in one field. The foxes at the beginning look too much like the keltirs from L2.
The game offers large maps with many places for exploration and different mobs. You are actually free to do what you want, you are not bound to different quests like “run to point A, return to B, then run back to A”. Of course you can do quests as you want and they bring a lot of experience (I usually go and take all available quests before hunting but I don’t like to do quests only).

Classes
Last Chaos has six playable races – Knight, Healer, Mage, Rogue, Titan and Sorcerer.
Knight - The knight is your usual tough guy with sword and shield or two swords.
Healer – She is a surprise, she actually can use bow and arrows and she can become an archer or a cleric at her first job change.
Mage – I like characters with high damage, especially high AoE damage.
Rogue – fast and deadly character she can use dual daggers or a crossbow.
Titan – rough guy with high HP and sword or axe of course. Do you like barbarians? My brother always plays this type of characters.
Sorcerer – something like summoner, maybe strong character. I need to try this one soon.

PVP
I haven’t tried it yet, my character is brand new, but I prefer to play on PVP servers. I was surprised to see a bunch of high level, bored people at the town gates in the middle of PVP battle.

The story
Actually I spent some time reading the story – war between gods of course. Good against evil, light against darkness and we, the humans were always the good ones, blessed with many abilities. Now you can choose a side and fight for it. So cool, I wonder who writes these stories and why game creators or publishers won’t hire a professional writer to do the job. Either way, the game is cool, maybe the best free to play game out there.
