Diablo 3 Says Bye Bye to PK’ing

Blizzard poster Bashiok writes on the World of Warcraft forums that the ability to kill other players without their consent (also known as PK???ing) is not going to be a part of Diablo 3???s gameplay as it was in the previous two iterations of the series.

While the removal of PKing may be disappointing to some, it???s good to know that they???re actually planning to implement a full fledged PvP system to replace the old murder sprees.

Hope it will be just like in WoW

In an now-finished live interview with Eurogamer, Media Molecule boss David Smith???s confirmed that VOIP will be included in the upcoming PS3 ???blue sky??? game.

???I can tell you we have VOIP,??? he said. ???It???s really useful when you???re making a level with a friend who happens to be in a different country. It fits really nicely into the game. There???s some more cool stuff about this that I???m not going to go into right now. We are using the camera for some of the creative features of the game. It???s a pretty powerful way of getting new content into the LBP world.???

Also, game comes in 720p @ 30fps, and will need about 1GB to install on HDD.

Gears of War 2 Gonna Kick Bioshock’s Ass?

Gears of War has great gameplay. Beyond that, we really don’t remember much about it. (Oh well, we remember that The Cliffster made it back when he had another name.) But according to voice actor Carlos Ferro, who’s Dominic Santiago, the sequel packs an emotional wallop. Says Ferro:

I said it. It’s going to be more emotionally effecting than Bioshock. A lot happens.

Good games don’t have to do everything right, they just need to do at least one thing right (and really right). Everything else is gravy ??? emotional crying scenes, included!

Dualshock 3 Coming This Friday

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has today announced that the DualShock 3 controller will be available across Europe on July 4, 2008. The wireless controller includes the motion sensing of the previously available Sixaxis plus a vibration function which has been sorely missing for PS3 gamers.

David Reeves, President and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, commented: “We are delighted to confirm that DualShock 3 will be released in SCEE territories in early July. We hope this will add to the intense gaming experience for our fans, as we continue to evolve PS3, its software and its peripherals.”

Sony says that almost all future PS3 releases will support DualShock 3 and is already compatible with many existing PS3 titles, including Resistance: Fall of man, GT5: Prologue and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

DualShock 3 will be released on July 4 priced ??39.99.

Windows Seven In 2010

Bill Gates may have only just said his goodbyes, but the Microsoft machine keeps on running with the company announcing information about the release of Windows 7.

The paint may not have even dried on the Windows that is Vista, but it seems that Microsoft is already looking to launch its successor within the next two years.

In a letter to enterprise and business customers on Tuesday, vice president of Microsoft Bill Veghte announced that the approximate launch date for Windows 7 is January 2010.

Seventh heaven

In the letter, Veghte wrote: “Our plan is to deliver Windows 7 approximately three years after the January 2007 general availability launch date of Windows Vista.

“You’ve also let us know you don’t want to face the kinds of incompatibility challenges with the next version of Windows you might have experienced early with Windows Vista.

“Our goal is to ensure that the migration process from Windows Vista to Windows 7 is straightforward.”

Well, if Intel is anything to go by, it won’t be the migration from Vista to Windows 7 that will be the problem, it will be the migration from XP to Windows 7 that most computer users will be worried about.

PS3 Will Receive 65nm GPU This Year

Kaz Hirai and the boys at Sony are all about profitability. They don’t just throw these slides together for kicks; they mean it. As part of the company’s accelerated “cost down efforts,” the PlayStation 3 will be getting smaller, cooler, cheaper, more efficient and generally awesomer RSX graphics chips starting this fall. We’re talking 65nm manufacturing processes, people. The good stuff.

Kaz noted in his corporate strategy speech earlier today that the Cell processor has been manufactured with 65nm process technology as of “last holiday.” Both were originally manufacture at 90nm, which was charming at first, but now seems rather vulgar. We’re updating our console power consumption charts in anticipation of the new RSX’s release.
