Xbox One’s Kinect Detailed: Wider View, More Accurate, Unique Player Recognition

Easily the more impressive element of Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal yesterday morning was the demo of the console’s new Kinect functionality. No longer will the Kinect be some imprecise, pared down tech that barely functions, but rather this new version will be more accurate, fully-featured, and useful. Oh, and it will also be much larger.

While Microsoft’s presentation was primarily focused on the basics of this new Kinect – Kinect 2.0, if you will – a behind-closed-doors press demo further highlighted the device’s capabilities. And while it’s little more than a promise at this point, what Microsoft showed should get gamers excited.

‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ and ‘Watch_Dogs’ Confirmed for the Xbox One

If you’ve visited Game Rant at all today, you’ve probably noticed a lot of talk about Microsoft’s next-generation console, the Xbox One, which was unveiled today amidst a slew of titles being officially announced for the new platform, including Forza Motorsport 5 and Battlefield 4.

The response from both gamers and critics has been mixed, since while the console boasts some impressive new technology and won’t necessarily be always-online, it also won’t be backwards-compatible. That aside, one of the major factors that will influence the console’s launch is the lineup of games that will be released on the platform over the next year.

Rare Bringing ‘Historic’ Franchise to Xbox One; Reveal at E3 2013

At today’s Xbox One event, Microsoft delivered a presentation that was as much about hardware, services, and new features, as it was games. In fact, one might argue that the presentation was decidedly short on games, despite an announcement the console will support 15 exclusives in its first 12-months.

However, now that the first introductions have been made, gamers can hopefully look forward to an E3 2013 presentation that is full of games. While it’s hard to know what to expect next month, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer has revealed one fan favorite developer will be making an appearance: Rare.

Remedy’s ‘Quantum Break’ Revealed for Xbox One

Now that the curtain has finally been pulled off of Microsoft’s Xbox One, gamers can now focus on the content that’ll be arriving on the next-gen platform later this year. There were a handful of third-party publishers on-hand to demonstrate their commitment to the Xbox 360′s successor, but the console’s grand unveiling was surprisingly short on big-name first-party exclusives. Microsoft did, however, confirm two new games that would be coming to the Xbox One – Remedy’s latest project, Quantum Break, being one of them.

Not much can be drawn from the teaser trailer that was shown off during Microsoft’s event earlier today, but the few snippets of gameplay footage that were present looked visually impressive. With the official unveiling of the Xbox One earlier this morning, gamers and game-makers have crossed into new and exciting territory. Now, publishers and developers can finally talk about their upcoming next-gen games not as nebulous ideas, but real products, and gamers can eagerly anticipate them.

Are we looking at the final design of the PS4? Not likely, but it’s always fun to imagine – and it’s not like we see anyone else trying to put something like this together.

Many are probably wondering why a fan made mock-up would even catch our attention. It started with Sony releasing a tease of their console yesterday. This short, yet effective, trailer displayed fractured images of the PlayStation 4 console on screen, while the camera slowly zoomed toward a blurred out image of the console in its entirety. Likely, this was all an effort to drum up buzz and take attention from today’s Xbox console reveal. All is fair in the console wars.

It may not have been the most shocking element of Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal to hear that Forza Motorsport 5 would be showcasing the graphic potency of the new console, Turn 10 Studios didn’t let that stop them from delivering one heck of a trailer.

Jaw-dropping visuals in a cinematic trailer are nothing new to the franchise, but simulation racing fans will be glad to know that when the Xbox One hits store shelves later this year, Forza 5 will be right next to it. Check out the trailer now.

EA Sports Unveils Next-Gen Trailer for ‘FIFA,’ ‘Madden,’ ‘NBA Live,’ & ‘UFC’

As expected, EA Sports took the stage at Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal event to showcase a few of their in-development next-gen sports games. Not only that, the publisher unveiled their new engine, Ignite, which will presumably fuel every EA Sports game going forward.

More specifically, though, EA Sports highlighted four upcoming titles that will use Ignite: FIFA 14, NBA Live 14, EA Sports UFC, and Madden NFL 25. In addition to a brief mention of these titles, EA Sports also debuted a new trailer (seen above) which showcased what these next-gen sports games will look like.

While on stage, EA Sports’ Andrew Wilson revealed that all four of these games are expected to hit store shelves within the next 12 months. Both Madden and FIFA already have release windows – August and September, respectively – but there was no word ...

Microsoft has lifted the veil and introduced the world to the Xbox One, the oddly name successor of the Xbox 360. We now have seen what the “big three” have to offer this generation and until the Steam Box, Ouya, and other new consoles grab a big market share, it’s the Wii U vs. the PlayStation 4 vs. the Xbox One.

Much of today’s presentation focused on the multimedia entertainment features Microsofts wants consumers to take advantage of in their living rooms, from a revamped Kinect system, more integrated and connected technologies and more general digital entertainment from the comfort of your home. This year’s Call of Duty isn’t that far off and Activision is taking advantage of the launch of next-gen gaming consoles later this year to lift any creative restrictions Infinity Ward may have had if their next game were titled Modern Warfare 4. Xbox One Announced, First Details Released [Updated]

The wait is over, gamers: Xbox One is here. Well, technically it’s only announced, but with the first look at the console, new Kinect, controller, and the first details on the sweeping changes coming to the Xbox experience, it’ll do for now.

New details are coming as we speak, but trading the old green color scheme and game-focused UI for a sleeker home-stereo style and media integration is enough to get fans excited already.

Although the official unveiling of Microsoft‘s next console is sure to trigger an onslaught of next-gen exclusives, and further details on the system architecture and developer accessibility. For now, let’s start with the hardware.

Before Electronic Arts unveiled Battlefield 4, they showed it to retail partners, and GameStop earned the game some buzz by praising the secret behind-closed-doors footage. The timing of the showcase led many to believe EA would unveil their first next-gen shooter at Sony’s PlayStation 4 event in February but it never came to be.

They instead unveiled it themselves at GDC in March while reports indicated that EA may have struck up a partnership agreement with Microsoft, hinting at a Battlefield 4 reveal as part of their own next-gen console showcase. Today’s the day and we’re just moments away from welcoming the Xbox 360 successor, and with it, potentially the two biggest shooters of the year.

The Resident Evil series was left in the shadows after the disappointing sales of Resident Evil 6, and even worse sales and feedback of Operation Raccoon City but Capcom seemed to indicate that the series could see a revival this year. While it can’t be confirmed yet, Resident Evil may be in for a fast return, with rumors springing up that an announcement at E3 2013 is on the cards.

Outside of the re-release of the 3DS hit Resident Evil: Revelations, Capcom last earned buzz for Resident Evil with a surprise Left 4 Dead tie-in, which was a long ways away from committing to any large game-scale projects. When Electronic Arts announced last week that it had no games in development for the Wii U — that, in fact, it had no intentions of supporting the console whatsoever — it served as a veritable poleaxing of both a company — Nintendo — and a console that have long fledged to attain support from third-party developers and publishers.

Although the bulk of excitement over Sony’s exclusive franchises has been focused on the slate of games for the upcoming PlayStation 4, racing fans still have one game on the PS3 to look forward to: Gran Turismo 6.

After being announced just last week, Polyphony Digital‘s next entry in the ‘real driving simulator’ series will mark the franchise’s last on the current generation of consoles. Luckily, new concept video of GT6 has appeared online; while it’s no surprise to see the visuals are still leading edge for the hardware, it’s good to know the developers are pushing the PS3 to its limits.

With less than 24 hours until Microsoft officially reveals their next-gen console, several developers and properties have confirmed they will have “something” to show at the event. The most recent confirmation comes courtesy of EA Sports, who teased a FIFA reveal is slated for tomorrow’s festivities.

What’s unclear about EA Sports announcement, however, is what exactly they intend to reveal. While the news blast makes mention of the “next generation of FIFA,” it does not say how that will impagct FIFA 14.
