When GWTO first invited me to submit an entry to his ongoing music series I was flattered but paralysed. Paralysed because I've been an avid music lover and collector for over 25 years. You see, music has been my refuge for as long as I can remember from a home life that was often painful and confusing.

Trying to sift through all the songs that have sustained me through the years quickly proved futile, especially as I increasingly became aware that the song that I most wanted to share was one that had come from deep within myself.

At the start of this year, my boyfriend Jason and I launched Legionaire, an electropop musical project. Our first release "Move On" is based on prior emotionally abusive relationships and how I eventually reached the head (and heart) space to let them go.

Upon further reflection however I also realized that the song was even more importantly about my own moving beyond years of negative conditioning re: my own musical talents and ability to contribute anything of artistic worth or value to the world around me. Jason's parts (which he composed) are not just the words of a prospective lover, waiting in the wings, but also the voice of our higher potential and truest self which yearns to be acknowledged and nurtured.

If, like me, anyone reading this has ever felt that their voice is of little value or meaning. If you've been afraid to express your own personal talents or to share your stories for fear of censure or humiliation. I hope that our work will help you to realize, that once you are ready to take that first step something (or someone) will be "right there... waiting" to catch you, when you too are ready to "Move On".

jingled the two coins in her plastic cup only once before pleading for
several seconds in her foreign tongue, relaying the story of
her hardships, trying to justify to this stranger that any contribution
on my part was well deserved. But all that was not necessary. Her tone
mirrored the sense of desperation so painfully evident in her eyes of
green that I had to look away. I was already searching for loose change.

I
managed to fish out a two euro coin and dropped it in her cup and the
gesture appeared to have astounded her. Her gratitude was so clear and
distinct that I felt ashamed for not offering more. She mumbled a few
words of prayer whilst gesturing the sign of the holy cross before
reaching for my ungloved right hand and planting a soft kiss on it.
This time the astonishment was mine.

So despite whatever it is we're going through, we would do well to
remember that in the grand scheme of things, for the most part, we got
it good. I'm a lucky man and I love how this song reminds me of that.

The 2010 music project needs YOUR input!
