Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will drop on in August for both the PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.

Fans who pre-order the standard or Collector’s Edition of the game will receive early access the game servers ahead of the official launch. Monthly subscriptions for the game will start at $12.99 USD.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce the release date of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. It has been a long road from the game’s inception to the beta, but thanks to your fervent support and invaluable feedback, the world of Eorzea will soon complete its journey of rebirth”, said the game’s Director Naoki Yoshida.

“We have endeavoured to make the game affordable so that adventurers will be able to experience the vibrant world of Eorzea. We have also prepared a collector’s edition version of the game, which includes a veritable assortment of premium items”, he added

Square has also lifted the lid on the  The Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Collector’s Edition — the new package will include the following:

• Collector’s box designed by Yoshitaka Amano, legendary Final Fantasy artist
• 80-page “Art of Eorzea” hardcover art book featuring never-before-seen concept art
• “The Waning of the Sixth Sun,” a special bonus video disc that takes a cinematic look at the events that led up to the realm being reborn
• “Sounds of Eorzea” album that features musical scores by renowned Final Fantasy series composers
• Five collectable character art cards
• A Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn-branded security token to secure user accounts
• In-game bonus items: Helm of Light, Baby Behemoth Minion, Coeurl Mount and Behemoth Barding

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Set for 27th August 2013 Release on PS3 and PC.

Sucker Punch has released a few hi-res images and artworks from Infamous: Second Son, the third chapter in the Infamous series currently in development for PS4.

The new images feature new protagonist Delsin Rowe in action. The Native American street artist can reportedly control smoke and absorb power from his enemies.

The synopsis reads:

Surrounded by a society that fears them, super humans are ruthlessly hunted down and caged by the Department of Unified Protection. When Delsin Rowe discovers his powers he’s forced to run, searching for other super humans in order to save those he loves from the oppressive D.U.P. now hot on his tail. The choices he makes along the way change the future of everyone around him.

Infamous: Second Son is expected to be amongst the PS4 launch titles.

Microsoft has repeatedly stated that pre-owned Xbox One games can be traded, but the company has declined to comment on specifics. Unconfirmed rumours have suggested that the re-activation codes will be required, and could cost as much as new games.

Microsoft has previously said that Xbox One games will need to be loaded onto the hard drive and can then be played without further need for the disc. Games will be activated and tracked through a cloud database system and players will need to be online to ‘check in’ with Microsoft’s servers every 24 hours.

According to MCV’s retail sources, if a person decides to sell the game through a retailer, the game in question will be wiped from their account and they will no longer have access. Microsoft keeps track of the pre-owned game until the retailer sells it — the publisher (and Microsoft) will then claim a percentage of the sale price.

“While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail”, Microsoft responded. “Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios.”

Meanwhile, Sony has confirmed that pre-owned titles will play on the next-generation PS4, but has also been quiet regarding used games. “It’s a publisher decision,” said Sony regarding activation codes. “We are not talking about it.”

UPDATE: Earlier today, Microsoft’s Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) posted on the topic of used games on his blog.

“The ability to trade in and resell games is important to gamers and to Xbox,” according to the official statement he included in his post. “Xbox One is designed to support the trade in and resale of games. Reports about our policies for trade in and resale are inaccurate and incomplete. We will disclose more information in the near future.”

Deep Silver and Volition have released a wacky trailer for Saints Row 4, featuring some of the madcap action that has made the series famous.

The first video in the “Hail to the Chief” series, called “Saints Force One,” shows the President hurling a foe into the sky with hilarious results.

Developed by Volition, Saints Row IV continues the story of the Third Street Saints by elevating their status to the highest level – the leaders of the free world. In Saints Row IV, the head honcho of the Saints has been elected to the Presidency of the United States. But the Saints are just getting started.

Box art for the game’s “Commander In Chief” edition was also revealed – see the gallery for hi-res versions.

Saints Row IV will launch on current-gen consoles and PC on August 20 in North America and August 23 across the rest of the world.

Activision has released an epic new live-action/CG trailer for upcoming next-gen game Destiny.

The big budget trailer was directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and stars Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Revolution) who recalls the moment when he was first taught the most important lesson of all — The Law of the Jungle.

Developed by award-winning visual effects studio Digital Domain, the new action-packed trailer provides a glimpse of Destiny’s epic game universe.

Bungie and Activision signed a ten-year deal to develop and publish, respectively, four Destiny games, with the first to be released on PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 as well as other as yet unannounced console platforms.

Speculation surrounding a new Mirror’s Edge project has been circulating for years and EA has repeatedly said that it hasn’t abandoned the series. Last November a former EA employee confirmed that Mirror’s Edge 2 was in production at DICE.

Former EA manager Ben Cousins stated on Twitter.  ”It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror’s Edge 2 is in production at DICE.”

While there have been no official announcements from EA this would tie in with recent comments from EA’s senior vice president, Patrick Soderlund who said that DICE doesn’t want to be a “Battlefield Factory”, and the studio is currently working on non-Battlefield 3 gamers.

“I loved Mirror’s Edge and what we did with Mirror’s Edge,” said Soderlund back in June of this year. “We have not abandoned the franchise. And we are working on something, but I’m not willing to talk more about that.”

The original Mirror’s Edge achieved only modest sales by EA’s standards but was fairly well received critically, scoring 79/100 on Metacritic.

During the day, players will traverse an expansive urban environment overrun by a vicious outbreak, scavenging the world for supplies and crafting weapons to defend against the growing infected population. At night, the hunter becomes the hunted, as the infected become aggressive and more dangerous. Most frightening are the predators which only appear after sundown. Players must use everything in their power to survive until the morning’s first light.

Dying Light will be available in 2014 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, plus Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Following the release of Manhunt last week, Rockstar is preparing to release another PS2 classic on the PlayStation Network.

Rockstar confirmed today via PlayStation Blog that The Warriors will be re-released on PlayStation Store on May 28th.

The Warriors game is based on the 1979 movie of the same name, featuring a street gang that has to fight their way through NYC as they head for the safety of their home turf on Coney Island.

Grab it on May 28 in the US for USD$9.99 and May 29 in Europe.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing is now available worldwide for Windows PC for $14.99 through Steam.

Eidos-Montréal has announced today that THIEF is being developed for Xbox One, the newly unveiled games and entertainment system from Microsoft.
