Starcraft 2 Menus Zerg Rush Your GPU

GameInformer is reporting that, following several reported incidents of systems overheating while playing Starcraft 2, Blizzard today acknowledged a problem with the way the game renders the menus, of all things.

Apparently, the game’s menu screens aren’t framerate-limited. This means that when there’s nothing else going on, your graphics hardware renders the bejeezus out of those screens, causing nasty overheating problems.

The fix for the problem is to add a few lines to the "Documents\StarCraft II\variables.txt" file. Follow the link above for the possible fix.

He’s coming back to the big screen in 2012, and Legendary Pictures has given the first idea of what its new Godzilla is going to look like. The firm unveiled concept art for its film at Comic-Con, and has also released it online, so those of us stuck in less glamorous parts of the world over the past weekend can catch a glimpse too.

Wonder Woman #601 Continues JMS’ Epic New Direction

In George Gene Gustines’s "Makeover for Wonder Woman at 69," JMS revealed that Wonder Woman’s flag-inspired outfit (a hallmark of the character in comics and on TV since her creation) would be upgraded to a "less costumey" look for the 21st Century. According to the article, when Straczynski was asked by DC to write Wonder Woman, one of the first points he addressed was her costume. In an email to DC, JMS wrote “If you’re going to make a statement about bringing Wonder Woman into the 21st century, you need to be bold and you need to make it visual. I wanted to toughen her up, and give her a modern sensibility.”

Designed by superstar artist – and DC Comics Co-Publisher (with Dan DiDio) – Jim Lee, Wonder Woman’s new fighting togs are more contemporary and functional, darker in color, and, with an eye toward future cinematic adaptations, designed to give the heroine a more movie-friendly look.

“The original costume was the American flag brought to life,” said Lee. “This one is a little more universal.”

A former journalist and writer of novels (Demon Night), TV (Babylon 5), film (Changeling) and comics (The Brave and the Bold), Straczynski was tapped to chronicle the adventures of Wonder Woman by DC based on an essay on the Diana of Themiscyra’s impact on cultural mythology. Smallville Stars Promise a Fabulous Final Season

Comic-Con’s Smallville panel was bubbling over with too much scoop? Not possible, but here’s your quick fix on everything else you need to know:

• John Schneider (Jonathan Kent) is back, and popped up on the panel to surprise fans!" I wish I were more like him in my real life," John gushed of his character. What you might not have known is that he’ll be back for more than one episode and told us that how he reappears is still a mystery to him. "I don’t know if that means I’m a spirit. I’m not really sure exactly what I am; real, imaginary, memory? But it’s the best written scene I’ve ever done on Smallville."

• Lionel (not Lex!) Luthor appeared in the new footage for season ten, but that doesn’t mean they’ve given up on Michael Rosenbaum‘s return. "I know he’s thinking about it," Tom tells us. "I know he knows that we want him and we don’t feel like we can end it without it. He threatened he’d be in audience and make himself known, but he kept quiet if he was even out there." And for the record, Tom said he’ll sign our petition to bring the baddie back, so let’s get going on that.

• Tess lives! For better or worse, Cassidy Freeman ain’t goin’ nowhere. "I’m sitting here in this panel, so it looks good," she teased. "There are no goodbyes for me right now, I’m coming back to say hello."

• Brian Peterson says they’re bringing in Darkseid as a villain this season, but in a way we’ve never seen before. Also, members of the Suicide Squad will pop up.

• Some form of the real Superman suit popped up in the promo, to which Tom said he hadn’t seen it in person yet, and Brian promised we’d see Clark in an outfit other than the black one we’re seeing now. "Whatever we do, I want to make sure we earn the suit at the end," Tom told us after the panel.

• 22! Erica will be in 22 episodes this season. And Justin will be in 17.

Movie Avengers Assembled

Even though star sightings at the San Diego Comic-Con have become so commonplace it is now commonly referred to as “Hollywood South,” the wattage present at the Marvel Studios panel was simply breathtaking as the cast of the 2012 team-up epic The Avengers assembled on stage with director Joss Whedon who said “I’ve had a dream all my life and it was not this good. This cast is more that I could ever dream of working with.”

The cast of The Avengers (reading from the left of the photo to the right) includes Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Clark Gregg (SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), and Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk). Ruffalo was the last major addition to the cast as his deal was finalized this weekend.

Moments before panel began Marvel Studios revealed a new logo for the movie when it launched a placeholder site where news, updates and hype about the film will be uploaded over the next 21 months leading up to the movie’s release on May 4, 2012.
