In Buffy the Vampire Slayer #36: Last Gleaming Part 1, writer Joss Whedon and the art team of Georges Jeanty & Andy Owens begin bringing down the curtain on Season 8 of Dark Horse Comics’ continuation of the cult-hit TV series. Picking up where the shocking “Twilight” storyline ended, the five-part “Last Gleaming” saga closes out the current chapter in the lives of Buffy Summers, reuniting her with old friends, foes and lovers – including both Angel and Spike – with hidden agendas and scores to settle.

Presenting the unfilmed “Season Eight” of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV program, this title continues the adventures of Buffy Summers, picking up a year after the seventh season’s explosive conclusion. Though the television series finale saw Sunnydale being swallowed by the Hellmouth, monsters still exist on Earth, and, despite her attempts to lead a normal life, Buffy is drawn once again into the eternal conflict between good and evil. With thousands of nascent Slayers in desperate need of training, Buffy and her friends in the “Scooby Gang” certainly have their hands full.

‘Locke & Key’ on TV

The IDW comic property Locke & Key (written by Stephen King progeny Joe Hill) appears to have found a home on TV, with Steven Spielberg executive producing, according to Hollywood Reporter. It was originally set up as a film with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci producing, but has now morphed into a TV series.

Kurtzman and Orci are working on a couple of other current series, including Hawaii Five-O and Fringe. Spielberg is exec producing Terra Nova and Fallen Skies.

AMC’s The Walking Dead Trailer Officially Hits the Web

The series stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, a police officer who leads a group of survivors in a world overrun by zombies. The series is being written and produced by Frank Darabont, The Shawshank Redemption/The Green Mile, who will also direct one of the six episodes.

Namor Dives into Comic Shops with New Ongoing Series

Spinning out of the events of Marvel Comics’ new X-Men series and tying into the greater “Curse of the Mutants” storyline, Namor: The First Mutant #1 begins a new ongoing series for the Sub-Mariner this week.

Since his 1939 introduction, Namor has been an influential and beloved character, making an impact in his solo stories as well as when part of fan-favorite teams like the Defenders, Invaders, Avengers, Illumaniti, and, most recently, the X-Men. Namor has once again come to the forefront of the Marvel Universe with his role during Dark Reign and X-Men storylines like “Utopia” and “Second Coming.”

Fans that have wanted to see the Sub-Mariner spotlighted further should respond favorably to Namor: The First Mutant from writer Stuart Moore and artist Ariel Olivetti. The X-Men are being assaulted by vampires from every possible direction, and that includes the depths. Doing his part to aid his new teammates, Namor will travel to the darkest part of the ocean to face a newly discovered race of Atlantean Vampires. But when faced with the most difficult of decisions, will Namor choose to save the X-Men or Atlantis?
