Sonic the hedgehog is going to make a return to Nintendo in the new game Sonic: Lost World. This game will be released on both the new Nintendo Wii U console as well as the handheld device the Nintendo 3DS. There has not been a lot of information revealed about the game but it is said that it could come out later this year. Speculators think the game will be released sometime around the holiday season. This is not the first time Sonic has made an appearance on both a Nintendo console and handheld device simultaneously. If Sega returns to its ways of making this new Sonic game intractable between both versions then this can be one fun game.

Sega has filed a trademark for the game. No information has been released about the plans for this game but expect some to come out soon. All that is known about the game is that it will be one of 3 games Sega will release on Nintendo systems. The other confirmed game is going to be Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. This is going to be an action adventure game. Sega has confirmed that many of the original characters from the franchise will return, and that new ones will surface in this version of the game. All that we can do is speculate what this Sonic game will bring gamers upon its arrival.

Expect there to be some type of interaction between the console and handheld version of Sonic: Lost World. The original Sonic Adventure released on the Dreamcast featured the ability to play at home and interact with the game on the go. The chao creatures were introduced into the Sonic universe in this version of the game. These creatures were pets players could raise both in Sonic Adventure and through their memory card, which could be played anywhere. As you build up your chao’s stats on the memory card the efforts you made transferred to the creature in the game on the console version. This same feature was available in Sonic Adventure 2 on the Nintendo Gamecube console. Players could raise chaos and connect their Nintendo gameboy advance to the Gamecube to download their creature onto the portable device. With the creature players had the ability to use it on the Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2, or Sonic Pinball Party games. This left a lot of room for endless amounts of gameplay fun.

With both the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS possessing online capabilities it would be easier than ever to download a chao onto the handheld version of Sonic: Lost World. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but expect some type of chao features to be available on both versions of the game.

Your favorite character such as Tails, Knuckles, and Amy will most likely return in this version of the game. Expect Doctor Robotnik also known as Doctor Eggman to return as the main villain in this version of the game as well. Sonic has always been a classic game to play. Stay tuned to hear more about the latest installment of the franchise Sonic: Lost World.

With titles like the BioShock series and Borderlands under their belt and a new Grand Theft Auto on the way, gamers are bound to get excited about anything Take-Two Games has to offer. Strauss Zelnick, the company’s CEO, has released a new statement that has the internet buzzing.

Zelnick stated that the company has an “extraordinary pipeline” of games in development, and that these new titles will include “groundbreaking new intellectual property”. Zelnick also said that 2014 will be one of the company’s “best years ever”.

So what kind of title can gamers expect from Take-Two Games, and when will they hear about it? The last time Take Two announced a new IP, it was at the Sony E3 press conference. E3 2013 will take place this June, and it seems like a safe bet that Take Two will have some exciting things to show.

Nintendo released their Wii U console last year, and both Sony and Microsoft have their new consoles on the way. It’s possible that Take Two will be creating a launch title for one of the new systems. There’s also a chance they’ll give the Wii U the kind of must own title that the console desperately needs. With their track record, any company would be happy to have a new Take Two game on their system.

The company’s past games have included innovative first person shooters, story driven crime games, and open world adventures. Any new IP from the company is sure to be intriguing to gamers. Perhaps the company will explore steampunk, or will try to put their old twist on a different kind of genre. They could give BioWare some serious competition if they released a new western RPG franchise.

No matter what kind of game Take Two decides to release, it’s sure to be a must own. If it’s exclusive to one of the new systems, it could help decide the console wars. There are plenty of players out there who would happily buy a brand new console for the chance to play one of Take Two’s games. If Take Two does make an announcement at this year’s E3, you can expect it to be one of the biggest bombshells of the expo.

This announcement has gotten many people talking about Agent, an IP that Take Two announced a few years back. Many believed that the project was stuck in development hell. However, they could be delaying the title for a new system. If this is the case, then their new IP will probably be different from Agent in a significant way. Agent was described as a stealth action title set during the Cold War. Does this mean that their mystery new IP will have more dynamic action, or a more fantastical setting?

There’s no way to know what Take Two has up their sleeve until they make their big reveal. Until then, the gaming community will just have to speculate. Thankfully, there are plenty of great games to keep us busy until then.

By participating in the big Gran Turismo 6 reveal at Silverstone, I had the opportunity to be one of the first people in the world outside of Polyphony Digital to get some hands-on time with the game. It was, sadly, all too brief, but it was enough to give me a good idea of what the game’s new physics engine feels like, and to capture some of the first gameplay video footage.

Above, you’ll see a few (admittedly quite slow) laps around Silverstone’s International Circuit in one of GT6‘s new cars, the KTM X-Bow R, along with a brief replay.

So, what does Polyphony Digital’s all-new physics engine feel like? It’s hard to describe, but let’s just say I think it will be hard to go back to Gran Turismo 5 after having experiencing GT6.

With traction control disabled and ABS set to 1 (I didn’t notice SRF was “on”…ugh, sorry!), it felt difficult to be “quick” around the track. However, the car was also easier to control, as if I had a better sense of the level of grip available at each wheel and exactly what the car was doing. It felt good.

When I play an older Gran Turismo game, I notice a kind of “numbness” or “dullness” in the handling characteristics of the cars, after having become accustomed to GT5. Now, I think I will feel the same way about GT5 the next time I play it.

The audio which you hear in the video was recorded via the television’s line-out headphone jack. It’s mono (single channel) sound, and doesn’t quite represent the sound that I could hear through the TV’s speakers. Although it’s not a radical change, I did notice a rougher, more visceral texture in the engine note that was more satisfying than what’s provided in GT5.

Regardless, Polyphony Digital’s work with Yokohama and suspension company KW Automotive has no doubt paid off, and the changes were immediately apparent to me after having spent only a very short time with the new game. Stay tuned for more exclusive GT6 gameplay and menu footage coming over the next several days.

You know, I forget sometimes that, technically, I am a League of Legends fanboy. It’s times like these that remind me that this MOBA can, in fact, send me into fits of gamer glee.

Indeed: The Freljord Patch is out.

Consider this something like an expansion pack for a normal game: a patch so big developer Riot has been leading up to it for the last few months. It has a plethora of new skins, it includes two big champion reworks, and adds a whole new Champion: Lissandra, the Ice Witch, leader of the Frostguard, and the long-awaited third “sister” of the Freljord.

Check out the promo video below:

But they’ve done more than just add a host of new skins and champions: this patch is very heavy on lore, including several re-works and even a beautiful promo website detailing the conflict that plagues the Freljord, which you can look at here.

The perfect event for spring, right?

But wait: there’s more! This patch is also the official introduction to the ARAM mode in League of Legends–a mode popularized by the community and made official today, this mode pits five randomly assigned champions on each team against each other in a single lane, where luck, skill and adaptability are needed to win. To complement the mode, Riot has released a new map, the Howling Abyss, where the battle for the future of the Freljord can take place.

Finally, to really hammer the theme home, summoner’s will be able to align themselves with one of the three tribes of the Freljord: The peaceful Avarosans lead by Ashe, the brutal Winters Claw headed by Sejuani, and the deceitful and ancient Frostguards ruled by Lissandra. If you win enough games under the banner of a tribe, you get a new summoner icon!

Reworked lore, new champions, two reworks and a brand new map: It’s like Christmas in April. Also all the snow outside helps. I hate Minnesota.

When you’re an independent game developer selling games over the internet, well… your job is rife with perils. The most dangerous being piracy, which wracks small game developers and might leave them out of the job–but you don’t have to take my word for it. To get a taste of the frustration of having all your hard work stolen from you, feel free to pirate a copy of Game Dev Tycoon for perhaps one of the best DRM I’ve seen in a game since Dark Soul’s Darkwrath invasion.

Game Dev Tycoon, predictably, is a game where you play a game developer trying to make it big. Well, in a social experiment in irony the developers, Green Heart Games, decided to upload a free, if slightly edited copy of their $8 game onto popular torrent sites: you could play without problems for a few hours, but then you’ll get a curious message–the games you’re making in-game are being pirated! As you make more and more games, they’re pirated more and more until eventually you go bankrupt–there’s no way to fight it or change your fate, if you pirate Game Dev Tycoon, your game company will fail because of Piracy.

The developers did this to open gamer’s eyes to the reality of games: hell, of all the copies of Game Dev Tycoon are out there, only 6.4% of them were bought legally.

“To the players who played the cracked version, I’m not mad at you,” says Patrick Klug, one of the developers behind the game. “When I was younger, downloading illegal copies was practically normal but this was mostly because global game distribution was in its infancy.”

Sounds like an excuse to me. But then again, his dev team consists entirely of himself and his brother, so he’s clearly passionate.

“If years down the track you wonder why there are no games like these anymore and all you get to play is pay-to-play and social games designed to suck money out of your pockets then the reason will stare back at you in the mirror.”

I have no idea what EA will be doing in my mirror but the future suddenly got a lot scarier.

I’m fairly certain that you all know what E3 is, so I won’t waste much time hyping up it’s significance. Ya’ll already know it’s one of the most important trade shows in the industry, a place where the customer, the press, and the business sides of the Gaming world all meet to show off the future–heck, this E3 is going to be especially important, as Microsoft recently announced their plans to reveal the next Xbox at the event.

But Nintendo has made a surprising announcement today: it’s going to break from the traditional E3 press conference. As it’s been done in the past, the three major game companies (Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo) would all host one big event–showing off sales, revealing games and new technologies, and hyping up investors. Apparently, the juggling act of keeping all the different factions of people interested in the same presentation was too imposing for the big N, and they’ve opted to try something different.

So instead of one big show, they’ll be doing several smaller, more manageable and more focused presentations. There will be closed events for the press and American Distributors (where they can get their hands on some new tech), while there will also be public shows of their latest games, hardware, and their vision for the future of Nintendo. And, obviously, they’ll have something of a show for the people at home via Nintendo Direct on the Wii U.

It makes sense that they’d want to minimize their presence at the trade show, considering their competition and their recent financial woes (I fear the Wii U will be another Gamecube, which would be very bad for the company)–it’s cheaper this way, for one, and it probably incentives people to check out Nintendo’s offering now that they won’t have to sit through information they don’t care about. Still, compared to the big shows that Microsoft and Sony are going to make, I can’t help but wonder if Nintendo will be lost in the bustle.

Either way, E3 will run from June 11-13 at the Los Angele’s Convention center, and you can bet I won’t be there.

We do a lot of game trailers in Gamestatics: mostly because there are a lot of games that interest me and it’s fun to archive these videos like this. Plus, I desperately need a distraction from from Bioshock Infinite, which has officially tied itself with Dark Souls in my mind… well, maybe not tied. Either way, I need to forget about it for a while, I’ve become obsessed.

So, what trailer do we have today? Ladies and Gents, I introduce you to The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot! A free-to-play *cough* PC game being made for the PC. Check it out below.

A game where you build a fortress and raid other players fortresses as well? Frankly it sounds like a dream come true, as both a fan of Diablo AND Dungeon Master, but since it’s free to play, we know there are going to be microtransactions involved, which will mean it will very likely be a pay-to-win game, which would suck all kinds of balls.

Anyway, the trailer makes the game look fun, even with the grating narration of Mr. Painhammer, and I have to admit, I’m a little excited to see more out of Opulencia, where “wealth, status and showboating are the name of the game”.

Hmmm. A society where wealth is the only measure of worth, and you get it by robbing from your lessers? Seems like a perfect place for a Social Darwinist like Ayn Rand… in fact, it kind of reminds me of a medieval fantasy version of Rapture– GODDAMMIT!

When some mysterious Arizona resident decided to re-create the question-mark box from the Super Mario games and leave it in the middle of the street, we can’t be sure as to what his motive exactly was: maybe they were trying to be cute. Maybe they were trying to be artsy. But after a tragic bombing at the Boston marathon, an unattended package only invokes one thing: Fear. And if that’s what this humorless person wanted, well… that’s what they got.

The police were called into the town of Temple, Arizona when this question-mark box was left in the middle of the road, and as a precaution, they had over fifty people from nearby buildings evacuate as a bomb squad opened up the box, preparing for the worst. After thirty minutes, the bomb squad gave the OK for people to return to their homes: no bombs in the box, merely papers.

“They made me leave the street. It’s just crazy, a college town like this I wouldn’t think that something like that would happen,” said Andries Efthymious, a resident and the one who called the police about the package. Another resident, Jen Trask, said “I’m glad that it was probably some messed up person that was trying to scare everyone instead of a real thing but that shows you it can happen anywhere.”

Again, there’s no news on who thought this would be a good idea, as no one’s come forward, but it’s good to see this story had mostly a happy ending. Still, it’s discouraging that this mysterious box (which really, really, REALLY looks like the boxes from Super Mario) might further fuel those who speak against our medium and rally them against them as a medium for corrupting the youth and indoctrinating people into violence.

Still, no one was hurt, and that’s what’s important. But I do admit… I wonder if anything was in the paper…

Bethesda has been teasing at a new game for a while now with some mysterious video loops made in Vine, which I didn’t bother reporting on because I figured they were a prelude to a larger announcement: I was right. As it turns out, the trio of enigmatic video loops were leading up to one big reveal trailer for The Evil Within, which is being made by Shinji Mikam, the creator of the Resident Evil series.

You can watch the trailer below, but be warned: there’s some content some viewers might find disturbing.

There’s little information about the game itself in this trailer, but there’s a few things we’ve picked up on: for one, it seems to be set in an abandoned mental hospital, which seems to be the trend nowadays (See: Asylum, The Dark Meadow, Outlast… the list goes on, really) and there are a few… interesting enemies waiting to be encountered, such as a “man” with a sledgehammer, a dude obsessed with barb wire, and bloody blob lady, which will be my code-name for her until I’m corrected.

This new game is set to be released sometime in 2014, for both next generation consoles and the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

You all know I’ve got a pathological obsession with these Indie bundle deals: they provide good games at excellent prices and they almost always go to a good cause, which is pretty much a triple-whammy reason why I always open up my Paypal account to these guys. I’ve spent more money on Indie Bundles than I have on food or clothing… but then again I’m still a dependent so there’s that. College life, folks.

So, ya’ll know the deal, sing along with me: for the next 11 days, you can pay what you want (as little as a penny, as much as what’s in your bank account) to get five games: Rebuild, KILL FUN YEAH, Shadowgrounds, Zombie Driver HD, and a mystery game that won’t be revealed until next week. However, if you choose to donate more than the average amount (which as of right now is $5.84) you get the whole package: which includes Gimbal, Shank 2, Zombie Driver DLC, and… surprisingly, Mass Effect 2. That’s right, Mass Effect 2–not exactly indie, but hell, whose complaining? Oh, and there’s another mystery game you can unlock this way, too.

So you might be wondering, since every Indie bundle supports a good cause, what’s the Indie Gala Mass Effect Bundle going to? Well, it’s not a standard charity, as they’ve been in the past: rather, this bundle goes to support the currently struggling Vancouver video game industry, which has hit some hard time lately with developer closings and layoffs. HOW this money exactly intends to help, no way to be sure, but hey: we all know the charity was only half the reason we did this.

So far this bundle has sold 3552 copies, and raised $19042.40–the top contributor thus far, one Robert, earned his high score with a measly donation of $36.00–compared to the thousands given to other bundles, that’s kind of weak, but hey: makes it easier for the rest of us, right?

It’s worth note, by the way, much of these games are being offered on non-steam game services: Rebuild is for the Android, while you’ll need Desura for KILL FUN YEAH, Gimbal, and the first mystery game… and naturally, Mass Effect 2 is for Origin.

Feel free to check it out and buy it yourself here!
