Ganesh Chaturthi in 2012 is on Wednesday, September 19th. Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival celebrate in the month of Bhaadrapada according to Hindu religion Calendar, at the beginning of Shukla Chaturthi (the fourth day of the waxing moon period).

Ganesh Chaturthi Festival is celebrated with great devotion throughout India. People bring home murtis of Lord Ganesha and celebrate by worshiping the Lord in a special way for a day and a half, 5 days, 7 days or 11 days, according to family tradition and commitment of each individual.

Gayatri mantra has been bestowed the greatest importance in Vedic dharma.

This mantra has also been termed as Savitri and Ved-Mata, the mother of the Vedas.

Om bhur bhuvah swah
Tat savitur varenyam
Bhargo devasya dheemahi
Dhiyo yo nah pracho dayat

The literal meaning of the mantra is:
O God! You are Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Almighty, You are all Light.
You are all Knowledge and Bliss. You are Destroyer of fear, You are Creator
of this Universe, You are the Greatest of all. We bow and meditate upon
Your light. You guide our intellect in the right direction.

The mantra, however, has a great scientific importance too, which somehow got lost in the literary tradition. The modern astrophysics and astronomy tell us that our Galaxy called Milky Way or Akash-Ganga contains approximately 100,000 million of stars. Each star is like our sun having its own planet system. We know that the moon moves round the earth and the earth moves round the sun along with the moon. All planets round the sun. Each of the above bodies revolves round at its own axis as well. Our sun along with its family takes one round of the galactic center in 22.5 crore years. All galaxies including ours are moving away at a terrific velocity of 20,000 mile s per second.

And now the alternative scientific meaning of the mantra step by step:

OM BHUR BHUVAH SWAH:
Bhur the earth, bhuvah the planets (solar family), swah the Galaxy. We observe that when an ordinary fan with a speed of 900 RPM (rotations Per minute) moves, it makes noise. Then, one can imagine, what great noise would be created when the galaxies move with a speed of 20,000 miles per second. This is what this portion of the mantra explains that the sound produced due to the fast-moving earth, planets and galaxies is Om. The sound was heard during meditation by Rishi Vishvamitra, who mentioned it to other colleagues. All of them, then unanimously decided to call this sound Om the name of God, because this sound is available in all the three periods of time,hence it is set (permanent). Therefore, it was the first ever revolutionary idea to identify formless God with a specific title (form) called upadhi. Until that time, everybody recognized God as formless and nobody was prepared to accept this new idea. In the Gita also, it is said, "Omiti ekaksharam brahma", meaning that the name of the Supreme is Om , which contains only one syllable (8/12). This sound Om heard during samadhi was called by all the seers nada-brahma a very great noise),but not a noise that is normally heard beyond a specific amplitude and limits of decibels suitedto human hearing. Hence the rishis called this sound Udgith musical sound of the above, i.e., heaven. They also noticed that the infinite mass of galaxies moving with a velocity of 20,000 miles/second was generating a kinetic energy = 1/2 MV2 and this was balancing the total energy consumption of the cosmos. Hence they named it Pranavah, which means the body (vapu) or store house of energy.

TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM:
Tat that (God), savitur the sun (star), varenyam worthy of bowing or respect. Once the form of a person along with the name is known to us, we may locate the specific person.Hence the two titles (upadhi) provide the solid ground to identify the formless God, Vishvamitra suggested. He told us that we could know (realize) the unknowable formless God through the known factors, viz., sound Om and light of suns (stars). A mathematician can solve an equation x2+y2=4; if x=2; then y can be known and so on. An engineer can measure the width of a river even by standing at the riverbank just by drawing a triangle. So was the scientific method suggested by Vishvamitra in the mantra in the next portion as under:-

BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI:
Bhargo the light, devasya of the deity, dheemahi we should meditate. The rishi instructs us to meditate upon the available form (light of suns) to discover the formless Creator (God). Also he wants us to do japa of the word Om (this is understood in the Mantra). This is how the sage wants us to proceed, but there is a great problem to realize it, as the human mind is so shaky and restless that without the grace of the Supreme (Brahma) it cannot be controlled. Hence Vishvamitra suggests the way to pray Him as under:

DHIYO YO NAH PRACHO DAYAT:
Dhiyo (intellect), yo (who), nah (we all), pracho dayat (guide to right Direction). O God!
Deploy our intellect on the right path. Full scientific interpretation of the Mantra: The earth (bhur), the planets (bhuvah), and the galaxies (swah) are moving at a very great velocity, the sound produced is Om , (the name of formless God.) That God (tat), who manifests Himself in the form of light of suns (savitur) is worthy of bowing/respect (varenyam).We all, therefore, should meditate (dheemahi) upon the light (bhargo) of that deity (devasya) and also do chanting of Om. May He (yo) guide in right direction (pra****ayat) our(nah) intellect dhiyo.

So we notice that the important points hinted in the mantra are:-

1) The total kinetic energy generated by the movement of galaxies acts as an umbrella and balances the total energy consumption of the cosmos. Hence it was named as the Pranavah (body of energy). This is equal to 1/2 mv2 (Mass of galaxies x squre of velocity.)

2) Realizing the great importance of the syllable OM , the other later date religions adopted this word with a slight change in accent, viz., Amen and Ameen.

Sage Vyasa was meditating in the Himalayas, where Lord Brahma appeared before him and asked him to write Mahabharatham for the benefit of all. Sage Vyasa said he could not do both composing verse and writing it down, and thus requested the assistance of someone wise, who writes as he sang. Brahma then asked sage Vyasa to pray to Lord Ganesha for help.

Ganesha told Vyasa that he had enormous work to do and so he would write, if Vyasa was quick in singing verse. For Sage Vyasa requested that Ganesha should understand the meaning of this verse, and only then put it into writing.

Then Vyasa began singing. Whenever he felt Ganesha was writing too fast for him, he would come with a difficult verse, so by the time Ganesha could decipher the meaning, he would have composed several other verses in his mind.

In this way,Vyasa completed the Bharatham which consists of 60 lakhs grantha. This comprises of the Kandapuranam, Ramayanam, Savithri Puranam, Nala Puranam and so on. The Lord Ganesha wrote on Mount Meru using his tusk.

Among these 60 lakh Granthas, 30 lakhs are supposed to be in Deva Lok, 15 lakhs in Yatcha Lok and 14 lakhs in Asura Lok. Remaining 1 lakh Granthams is supposed to be on earth. Sage Vyasa is supposed to have
sung 8,800 Granthas, which were difficult to decipher for Ganesha.

He has himself stated that Ganesha, Sage Vyasa himself and his Sugan may be the only ones who know the meaning of those 8,800 granthams.The Mahabharatam is considered the fifth Veda.

Once there was demon called Gajamugasuran. He done deep penance and worshiped Lord Shiva, who granted many boons to him by which he became extremely powerful. He put to Devas and Rishis into great distress. He forced devas to do 1008 Thoeppukaranams in the morning, afternoon and also in the evening.

Thoeppukaranam means to sit down and then stand up holding one's ears with hands crossed, that is his left ear with his right hand and right ear with left hand.

The Devas prayed to Lord Shiva to rescue them from this evil demon. Than Ganesha was sent by lord shiva to overcome Gajamugasuran. Ganesha went with several weapons like arrows, bow, sword, axe, etc. However since Gajamugasuran had been granted the benefit of not being destroyed by all of this weapons, none of the weapons worked effective for Lord Ganesha.

Ganesha than broke his own right tusk and used it to kill Gajamugasuran. Gajamuga rushed to Ganesha as a small mouse i.e. a mooshikam. Ganesha crushed ego and vanity of Gajamugasuran and sat on the him. The humbled Gajamugasuran bowed before Ganesha, which was then Ganesha accepted as the mooshikam "Vahana".

Lord Ganesha can be Pleased by doing "Thoepukaranam" by his devotees when they commit anything wrong.

To bring water in arid southern part, sage Agastya, with the blessings of Brahma, had got water in his "kamandalam" (the vessel used to hold water for ritual worship) of Shiva. He then went down to south & want to find the ideal point for the river could flow, and reached the hills Kodagu.

Semolina or Sooji Butter Halva Recipe

Semolina or Sooji Halva is the most popular dessert served at many homes during festival season. This version Halva is a dish with hot, fluffy pudding with juicy raisins, raw sugar, and walnut pieces.

The secret of good halva is to roast the semolina or sooji very slowly for at least 20 minutes, with enough butter so as not to scorch the grains. Steam the finished halva over very low heat with a tight-fitting lid for 5 minutes to fully plump the semolina or sooji grains; then allow it to sit covered for another 5 minutes. Fluffy, plump grained halva is best served hot, with a spoonful of cream or custard.

PREPARATION AND COOKING TIME: About 30 minutes

YIELD: Enough for 6 to 8 persons

Ingredient

1. 3 cups (750 ml) water

2. 1 ¼ cups (300 ml) raw sugar

3. 1/2 cup (125 ml) raisins

4. ¾ cups ( 200 ml) butter

5. 1 cup (250 ml) coarse-grained semolina or Sooji

6. 1/3 cup (85 ml) dry fruit pieces

Procedure

1. Combine the water, sugar, and raisins in a 2-litre/quart saucepan. Place over moderate heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat to very low and cover with a tight-fitting lid.

2. Place the butter in a 2- or 3-litre/quart non-stick saucepan and over fairly low heat, stirring occasionally, melt the butter without scorching. Add the semolina or sooji. Slowly and rhythmically stir-fry the grains until they darken to a tan colour and become aromatic (about 20 minutes). Add the walnut pieces about half-way through the roasting. Stirring more carefully, raise the heat under the grains.

3. Raise the heat under the sugar water and bring the syrup to a rolling boil. Remove the saucepan of semolina and butter from the heat, slowly pouring the hot syrup into the semolina, stirring steadily. The grains may at first splutter, but will quickly cease as the liquid is absorbed.

4. Return the pan to the stove and stir steadily over low heat until the grains fully absorb the liquid, start to form into a pudding-like consistency, and pull away from the sides of the pan. Place a tight-fitting lid on the saucepan and cook over the lowest possible heat for 3-5 minutes. Turn off the heat, allow the halava to steam, covered, for an additional 15 minutes.
Serve hot in dessert bowls as it is, or with the toppings suggested above.

Ravana, king of Lanka, was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. He often went to Kailash. There he worshiped Shiva with great devotion. Once, as usual, he went to Kailas. Lord Shiva was pleased with his devotion. "I'm happy for you" he said Ravana. "Request a blessing. I will give it." When everyone ends up in the floods," said Ravana "Lanka should be spared."

This is the gift I want! Shiva was somewhat perplexed. Ravana had already proved biggest problem for the gods. If he is granted this advantage than he shall disturb gods even more. So what should he do? Shiva thought of a clever idea, he gave a Shivling to Ravana. "Take this Shivling," Shiva told him, "whenever you turn it down, it would stand there and soon this place will be protected against flooding. If you want to protect Lanka, be sure to put it down on arriving Lanka!" Ravana was overjoyed. But Shiva warned, "hold it with both hands. If you leave it anywhere else then it will stick to that place, then it will not be possible to move it. Be careful with it!" Ravana than started for Lanka.

Meanwhile, the gods learned the boon given to Ravana. They were horrified, we went to Ganesha for help. They told him what had happened. "Please do something, God," they pleaded Ganesha, "so that the Shivalinga not reach Lanka. If it happens then Ravana would become more powerful. "Ganesha thought for a moment. He had a brilliant idea: "Very well," he said in fact a solution "I see that the Shivling not reach Lanka." And Ganesha, in the disguise of a cowherd, stood in the path of Ravana. Ravana had come a long way, he was tired and sweaty. He wanted to wipe his sweat, but he could not do it because he had the heavy Shivalinga in his hands.

At this time, Ravana saw the cowboy standing on his way. Behind him, there was a river. "Hey boy! Come here." Ravana called the boy. "What do you want?" the boy asked, not moving from where he stood. "I am very thirsty," said Ravana. "Please hold this Linga just a minute. I want to go to the river to drink some water. I will not take long."

"Very good!" said Ganesha, "but the Linga seems very heavy, so my hands get tired I'll call you three times if you do not come back immediately, then I'll put it down!" he warned. "Do not worry!" Ravana said. "I'll be quick." With great relief, he handed over the lingam to the boy.

Then he rushed to the river. And as soon as Ravana reached the river, the boy shouted: "Ravana! Ravana! Ravana!" and quickly put down the linga. Immediately it stuck there. When Ravana returned from the river, there was no sign of the boy. Shivling had stuck to the ground. Ravana tried to pull. But he did not move a bit. Yet, because of the strength of Ravana the Shivling lost it form. It now looks like the ear of a cow. This is why it is known as 'Gokarna' and the place became a famous place of pilgrimage. Even today, we know that place as Gokarna Mahabaleshwar.

This mandal, often stated to be the richest in the city, was founded by the Gowd Saraswat Brahmin community from Karnataka in 1954. They've prospered in Mumbai, and as a mark of respect to the city they conduct various social programs along with a grand celebration of the Ganesh Festival.

The idol is always an Eco-friendly one, made out of clay. The mandal is also distinctive because there's none of the usual recorded music there. Instead, traditional Indian musical instruments used in south Indian temples are played.

Compared to many other famous mandals in Mumbai, the idol isn't as towering or imposing. However, it has a reputation for fulfilling wishes. The mandal also usually has a novel theme and other attractions, which have in the past included sand sculpture and a mela (carnival).

Location: Veera Desai Road, Azad Nagar, Andheri (western Mumbai suburbs).
Nearest Railway Station: Andheri.

Mix coconut and jaggery together. Microwave this mixture for a minute, stirring at the interval of 30 seconds. Add cardamom powder and mix well.
Boil 3/4 cup of water. Add 1 tsp of oil and pinch of salt in a boiling water. Reduce the heat and pour rice flour. Keep Stirring continuously till it forms dough. Switch off the heat and cover the Pan. Let it rest for 5-6 minutes.
Pour few drop of oil and knead the dough really well with wet hands. Divide the dough into 10-11 equal parts.
Take one Ball and start to pat it in such a way that it will get bowl like shape. Make sure you make the edges thin. Use few drops of water to make the task easier. Then make Pleats and place a spoonful of stuffing in it. Gather all the Pleats to the center forming the shape of modak.
Follow the same procedure and make rest of the modak. Keep them covered with wet kitchen towel.
Boil water in vessel. Vessel should be 1/4 filled. Grease the sifter lightly with few drops of oil. Arrange all the modak on it. Place Sifter on a vessel and cover it. Steam them for 6-8 minutes.
Switch off the heat and serve the modak hot with ghee

The Environmental Impacts can be summarized as follows:

Water pollution: The Biggest Issue

In recent years, we have seen a growing awareness about water pollution caused by the immersion of Ganesh idols made of plaster of Paris, in the natural water bodies such as lakes, rivers and the sea . Plaster of Paris is not a matter of natural origin. Plaster of Paris is a calcium sulfate hemihydrate gypsum from a calcium sulphate dihydrate, by firing of the mineral to a relatively low temperature, and then reduced to powder.

The idols made of natural clay (shaadu Marathi) dissolve within hours of immersion in water, Plaster of Paris idols can last from several months to several years to dissolve. In addition, when chemical paints are used to decorate the idols, these paints contain heavy metals such as mercury and lead, which seep into the water as the idol dissolves.

In Bangalore, a study by the Commission of pollution control plant to assess the impact of immersion of Ganesh idols on the lakes revealed the following:

1. Acid content in water increased.

2. TDS (total dissolved solids) increased 100%

3. The dissolved oxygen content increased during the day due to the agitation of the water during immersion and reduces night when organic discharge increased.

4. Sampling of heavy metals showed an increase of metals such as iron which has increased by nearly 10 times and the copper content in the sediment increased from 200 to 300%.

Possible solutions:

Since the main issue around water pollution has to do with the idol immersion ritual, many people now suggest a slight variation of this ritual to prevent water pollution. These include:

1. Immersing the idol in a tanning water built by the government, instead of directly into natural waters.

2. Using only a natural clay idol and immersing it either in the tank or in a bucket of water at home.

3. The immersion of a "betel nut" which symbolizes the idol and reusing the same idol every year.

4. If you use a plaster of Paris idol, simply sprinkling a few drops of water on it as a symbolic immersion and donating the idol to be recycled for the next year.

Appropriate management "Nirmalya"

With the idol, there are several accessories used in worship which are collectively referred to as "Nirmalya". These include flowers, fruits, coconut, cloth, incense, camphor, etc. In addition, many people create elaborate temples of thermocole Houwe to their idols. Until a few years ago, it was all too immersed with the idols.

In Pune, the city has managed to convince people not to immerse the 'Nirmalya' into the water. Instead, they installed large bins shaped pots or traditional "Kalashnikov" to receive this Nirmalya. While this is a good first step, the proper management of Nirmalya is always crucial given the volumes that are collected annually. This is a sensitive issue because it involves the feelings of the faithful.

Possible solutions:

1. Avoid the use of non-biodegradable material such as thermocole altogether.

2. Composting all biodegradable materials.

3. Distribution food itmes such as coconut and fruits among the poor.

4. Recycling flower to flower handmade paper products or powder.

Ganesh Chaturthi or "Vinayak Chaturthi" is one of the biggest traditional festivals celebrated by the Hindu community. Is observed during the Hindu month of Bhadrapada, starting shukla chaturthi (fourth day of the new moon). In general, the day falls sometime between August 20 and September 15. The festival lasts 10 days, ending on Ananta Chaturdashi, and is traditionally celebrated as the birthday of Ganesh.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha is the son of Shiva (god of destruction of the Hindu Holy Trinity of Creator-Preserver-Destroyer) and Parvati (wife of Shiva). Worshiped as the deity of auspiciousness and wisdom, Lord Ganesha is also famous for being a cheater and his sense of humor.

It is believed that Ganesh was born on the fourth day (chaturthi) of the bright fortnight of the Hindu lunar month of Magh. Since then, an association between Ganesh and chaturthi has been implemented. Thus, the festival dedicated to the worship of Lord Ganesha chaturthi this day is named Ganesh Chaturthi.

There is a curiously interesting story about the birth of Ganesha. We think that once Parvati was bathing, she created a human figure from some ointments and balms, gave him life and asked him to guard the door while she bathed. After a long period of meditation on Mount Kailash (abode of the god Shiva), Shiva chose that moment to go to see his sweetheart, but was abruptly stopped by the man-god Parvati had posted at the door. Outraged of this stranger, Shiva cut off his head to discover moments later he had killed Parvati's son! For fear of enraging his wife, Shiva immediately dispatched his ganas (agents) to get him the head of the first living creature they could find. Well, the first living creature happened to be an elephant. Accordance with the instructions, the head was cut off and brought back to Shiva, who placed it on the body of his son Parvati him back to life. This elephant-headed god was welcomed into the family of heaven first Hindu and named Ganesha or Ganapati, which literally means the chief of the ganas, or the attendants of Shiva.

He is worshiped at every festival and before people undertake a journey or embark on a new adventure. You will also carefully guard entrances to temples and homes, coming out of calendars and happily gracing marriages and other such occasions.

It is not known when and how Ganesh Chaturthi was first celebrated. But according to the historian Shri Rajwade the first Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations can be traced back to the reign of dynasties as Satavahana, Rashtrakuta and Chalukya. Historical records reveal that Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations were initiated in Maharashtra by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja, the great Maratha ruler, to promote culture and nationalism. There are also references to the history of similar celebrations during Peshwa times. It is believed that Lord Ganapati was the family deity of the Peshwas. After the end of Peshwa rule, Ganesh Chaturthi remained a family affair in Maharashtra from the period of 1818 to 1892.

1857 was a pivotal year for India and more so in the context of Indian freedom. It was the year of the Sepoy Mutiny, an armed rebellion against the British Empire in power by the Indian military. This was the first war that led to India regain its independence of its white rulers. Although unsuccessful, this battle marked the beginning of the struggle for Indian independence. Many speakers, leaders and freedom fighters all over India teamed up to develop a united resistance to British rule. One of these eminent leaders was Bal Gangadhar Tilak, an Indian nationalist, social reformer and freedom fighter. In high esteem by the people of Maharashtra India, in particular, Tilak was commonly called "Lokmanya" or "one who is regarded by the people." It was Tilak, who brought the tradition of Ganesh Chaturthi and reshaped the annual Ganesh festival celebrations private family in a large public event.

An important festival in the Peshwa era, Ganesha Chaturthi acquired at this time a more organized form all over India largely through the efforts of Lokmanya.

Since then, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated throughout Maharashtra as well as in other countries with great enthusiasm and community participation. With the independence of India in 1947, it was proclaimed as a national holiday.

Today, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in the states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and many other parts of India. The festival is so popular that the preparations begin months in advance. A few days before the actual worship, houses are cleaned and marquees erected at street corners to accommodate the idols of the Lord. Complex arrangements are made for lighting, decoration, mirrors and flowers. The artisans who make the idols of Ganesh compete with each other to make bigger and better sculptures. Sizes relatively large units vary from 10 meters to 30 meters in height. They are installed in marquees and in homes before the Puja (worship). During the holidays, the Lord is worshiped with great devotion and prayer are performed daily. The residence time of the Lord varies from one place to another, after the worship is over, the statues are carried on decorated floats to be immersed in the sea after one, three, five, seven and ten years. Thousands of processions converge on the beaches to immerse the holy idols in the sea procession and this immersion is accompanied by dances and the sound of exciting drum beats, devotional songs and exploding firecrackers. As the idol is immersed amidst loud chants of "Ganesh Maharaj Ki Jai!" (Hail Lord Ganesh), the festival ends with pleas to God to return next year with chants of "Ganpati Bappa morya, pudcha varshi Laukar ya" (Hail Lord Ganesh, return soon the next year). Tourists from around the world come to witness this wonderful event in the sun kissed beaches of Goa and Mumbai.

While celebrated all over India, Ganesh Chaturthi festivities are most elaborate in states like Maharashtra, Goa (This is the biggest festival for Konkani people all over the world) Gujarat, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and other areas which were former countries of the Maratha Empire. Deeply indebted to Shiva, Parasurama then came to mount Kailasa to pay obeisance to his mentor Ganesha, who guarded the entrance to the room of his father Shiva. Ganesha would not let him in, saying he had to wait until that he has the permission of his father, Shiva. Parasurama felt that he, the devotee, did not need permission.

When Ganesha refused to let him in, Parashurama, who was still very hot tempered, struck with his axe on one of Ganesha tusk and broke it into half. Shiva and Parvati appeared before him and chastised him for this activity. Parashurama then apologized and worshiped Ganesha. Ganesha forgave Parashurama and gave him blessings.

Ganesha first had a look at her big belly and her little rat. He was sure he could never win the race. Then Kartikeya was already far away with his peacock and Ganesha just sitting there thinking and suddenly he had a bright idea. He made Lord Shiva and Parvati Mata sit together and quickly went around three times.

Soon.Kartikeya came on his peacock after successfully traveled the world and embarrassed Shiva-Parvati said proudly: "I'm here! That I won and looked Ganesha "No," said Ganesha, firmly, "our parents are the mother and father of the world, even going around them is just like going around the world!

Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati lived on Mount Kailash. Many times Shiva used to go into the forest and stayed there to penance for months. Meanwhile Parvati had to stay home alone. One day, as usual Lord Shiva went to the forest, leaving Parvati alone in the house.

Parvati then wanted to take a bath. However, there was no one else to take care of the house. So Parvati was worried. But soon she had an idea. Parvati removed sandalwood paste from her body and created a boy from the sandalwood paste. Parvati then made the boy stand at the door and asked him not to let anyone into the house until she finished her bath.

The boy stood at the door and stopped everyone who visited the house. Soon Lord Shiva returned home and was surprised to see a boy who was prevented from getting in. "You can not enter the house, my mother taking bath," said the boy.

Lord Shiva became angry and asked the boy to move aside, but the boy did not move instead continuously stopped Lord Shiva from entering the house.

Lord Shiva lost his composure and he cut off the head of the child with his trishula. Later, Parvati finished her bath and to her surprise, she saw the headless body of the boy. So Parvati began to cry, "Oh my lord What have you done! You killed my son!"

Lord Shiva felt very sorry for his short tempered act. Lord Shiva wanted to bring the boy to his life and he began finding the chopped head of the child. But surprisingly the head vanished and search was in vain. He therefore called his servants, called "Ganas" and told them to go into the forest and get the head of the first living creature you meet.

The ganas immediately rushed to the jungle and came across an elephant. They immediately cut off his head and brought it to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva put the head on the boy's body and brought him back to life. Parvati was overjoyed to find his son. The Ganas was instrumental in bringing the child's life back, so he was named "Ganapati".

The idol of Ganesha is faced here is sitting cross-legged, with a broad forehead, with its trunk pointing to the left.
	Moreshwar, Morgoan	Moreshwar this temple is located along the river in the village Karha Morgaon. This is the most important of all the eight Ashtavinayak temples and has four doors. At this point Ganesha, riding a peacock as Mayureshwara is suspected of slained the demon Sindhu. This idol has its trunk turned to the left and a cobra ready on it to protect it.
	Siddhivinayaka, Siddtek	The Siddhivinayak at Siddtek is considered a powerful deity. It is believed that this is the mountain Siddhtek that Vishnu acquired Siddhi. The temple is located near the Pune-Solapur highway about 48 km from the city of Srigonda in Ahmadnagar district. The temple is located right next to the river Bhima.
	Varad Vinayak, Mahad	Varad Vinayak Ganesh as fulfills all the dreams and desires and grants all favors. A nandadeep was lit in this temple which has been continuously lit since 1982. This temple is located three kilometers from the highway near Pune-Mumbai Khopoli (80 km from Pune) and is therefore closer to the city of Mumbai.
