Purple Dragon's Blood Review

2010-10-29T11:54:00.000-07:00

What an exciting strain. Of all the ones I've tried so far, this is my favorite. It came highly recommended from a friendly bud-tender.

Strain: Purple Dragon's Blood

Genetics: Purple Haze x Dutch Dragon; Hybrid (Indica 70/30)

Looks: 5/5
Smell: 5/5

Taste: 3.5/5

Effect: 5/5

As stated above, this strain came highly recommended. The bud-tender was nice enough to put a bud under the scope and we explored through the forest of trichomes. They were everywhere, brilliant, translucent little crystal mushrooms in abundance.

Don't be deceived by the pictures--it does look a little stemmy but I picked this up a few weeks ago and have already smoked quite a bit of it. The first picture is the nearest representation of what the bud looked like when I got it. It's sticky to the touch, even breaking a piece off of the larger nug would make my fingers sticky enough to pick up a piece of paper like Spiderman. Like the Platinum Blue Dream, it slows up the grinder quite a bit.

The taste isn't the greatest I've had, but it's still a lot nicer than bio-diesel taste. What really does it for me, though, is the type of high that comes with it; that right in the middle high that isn't so fast and upbeat that it creates anxiety and paranoia and won't stick you to the couch and make you pass out early like a noob, unless you want it to. Not only does this strain offer a fairly balanced high, you can manipulate it based on what you want to do.

Want to go out and do something? Perfect, it won't drag you down but you'll be so relaxed that every situation flows naturally.

Have trouble sleeping? Not with this. I can smoke a bowl of the same stuff that helped me get a 100% on my economics test and get to bed early for the next day. It just depends how you're feeling and what you want. Though, if you're already pretty tired, this might just make you more tired.

I see this being a staple strain for me. In time's like these, functionality is essential.

100% economics

2010-10-28T22:47:00.000-07:00

I had a pretty good Thursday. My early class was only in session for make up exams so I got to sleep a little bit more than usual, but parking can be a pain so I still left at a reasonable time. I brought along my tools: scissors, grinder, index card, paper, and, of course, the herb. This time it was Jack Herrer II (Secret Haze x Red Skunk, 80/20 Sativa) I had a few hours to kill so I rolled up a little cone and busted out the macroeconomics book to study for the quiz I was to take in a few hours. Ended up getting 100% on the quiz. I never imagined that I'd enjoy economics, let alone macroeconomics--I couldn't stand it in high school.

Unfortunately, I didn't fare so well on the history midterm. I didn't put enough effort into it so I pulled a 76%. Thankfully, the teacher is pretty cool and is letting us revise one thing based on his commentary for up to a letter grade, so I'm in the process of re-reading The Federalist no. 51.

Sometime soon, hopefully tomorrow, I'll do a review on my favorite strain that I've come across--Purple Dragon's Blood. It's an indica dominant hybrid, but not necessarily a couchlocker. I have the bong cleaned out and ready to go for tomorrow.

Also: Cataclysm is coming out soon, I'm thinking about getting a laptop and playing this at work. I really enjoyed the WotLK and BC expansions and the new trailer makes it even more enticing.

Introduction

2010-10-24T11:34:00.000-07:00

A little bit about myself: I'm a college student and I have a doctor's recommendation to use cannabis to help alleviate social anxiety, stress, and insomnia. Plus I like being high, and if you're reading this then you probably do too. I'm thankful that I'm a Californian. I'm interested in music (mainly various sub-genres of rap and metal), science, philosophy, rpg's/mmorpg's, cooking and eating, doing new shit (like experimenting with mind altering substances...legal for obvious reasons), comedy, and a lot more shit I'm leaving out due to laziness. The reason I started this blog was to just ramble about shit while I'm high and do strain reviews whenever I get new stuff. And it wouldn't hurt to make some supplemental money from adsense either, lol. This is all of the relevant information that I can think of.

Platinum Blue Dream strain review

2010-10-24T00:43:00.001-07:00

Preface:

I picked this up a couple weeks ago at my local dispensary. I typically try to review a dispensary's menu online before I make the trek over, but looking at strain names on Weedtracker can only tell you so much. I went in, still undecided and with no expectations, and was signed in and promptly called back to the bud room. As I made my way into the back room, I was greeted by an outgoing young guy, around my own age, who asked me how the Romulan I picked up during my previous visit was. For a second, I wasn't sure what to say because I didn't know how he knew my previous order considering he had never been my budtender before and my last visit was over a month prior to this one. After realizing that he was holding an electric clipboard that showed my previous order and responding accordingly, we made our way to the bud counter where dozens of little jars of high quality cannabis sit on display. I explained to him that I usually only use indica (Romulan) for insomnia and that this time I was looking for a sativa. I narrowed it down to the Platinum Blue Dream and Platinum Green Crack before asking for his recommendation. He immediately gravitated towards the P. Blue Dream and said that he thought it was the best strain they had at the time, even surpassing their prized Cherry AK-47. Seeing him become even more animated when talking about the P. Blue Dream is what sold me.

Now for the best part. (note: I apologize for the picture quality, in the future I'd like to upgrade to a better camera for some better bud porn. Also note that these pictures were taken after the fact, but in the future will be taken as I first try the strain)

Now, to the review itself:

Strain: Platinum Blue Dream

Genetics: Blueberry x Super Silver Haze; Hybrid (Sativa 80/20)

Looks: 5/5
Smell: 5/5

Taste: 5/5

Effect: 4.5/5

If you're familiar with regular Blue Dream, you'll realize why this is called Platinum. The original Blue Dream (as far as I know) is Blueberry x Haze genetics, so the "Platinum" preface fits well. These pictures are a poor reflection of the quality of this bud. In person, this bud is unbelievably frosty and sticky. After sticking some in my grinder to get it ready for the bong, it took me a good 3-5 seconds to get it turning because the bud is so dense and sticky. This has only happened to me 2 or 3 other times.

The smell that rushes out when you open up the jar is absolutely intoxicating. It doesn't smell particularly like blueberries to me, but there is a definite fruity overtone lingering around in there. It has undertones of pine when an individual bud is put right under your nose.

The taste is sublime. If you ever chance to come across this strain, I wouldn't waste it in paper. Quality like this needs to be tasted in glass or a vape. Most people tend to agree that the best way to taste a bud is through a vape. Unfortunately, I can't confirm this (yet). It tastes like you'd expect it to, and a little hit goes a long way. With my pipe, a small corner of a bowl of this stuff will fill up the chamber with thick smoke. If my budget and tolerance allowed for it, I would rip this strain out of a bong all day. Sadly, I can't afford a lifetime supply of this strain. The good news is, however, that this strain is STRONG so you probably could rip it all day and still feel a strong effect.

The effect, for me, was actually a bit overpowering. I should have expected it from the bong, but thought that a sativa would never couchlock me. I was wrong. About 30 minutes after finishing the bowl, all I felt like doing was laying on the couch and resting (not sleeping, just relaxing). Don't get me wrong, this is a great feeling as well, but I was more after a clear, cerebral high whereas with this I could definitely feel the blueberry genetics hitting me. It wasn't a bad thing, just not something that I was expecting.

I would highly recommend this strain to anyone--so if you come across it, jump on it.
