2011 Ford Fiesta Sedan Interiors

The 2011 Fiesta Sedan looks pretty sharp and edgy while the options under the bonnet too are grin inducing too. Talking of which, a 1.6 liter, 118 BHP Zetec Petrol motor will be joined by a 1.6 liter, 90 BHP & 20.7 Kgm Duratorq Diesel. Now that’s not something that will make you sit up and take notice but Ford India has this uncanny ability of making engines that love to be kept on the boil and going by this, both the petrol and diesel motors look promising, on paper at least.

2011 Fiesta Sedan Red Metallic

The Ford Fiesta Sedan is getting long in the tooth and to keep the buzz going, Ford India has some concrete plans to bring in the 2011 Fiesta Sedan to India, sometime in 2011.

We brought you some stuff about this a while ago and looking at the way the 2011 Ford Fiesta Hatchbacks are doing the testing rounds in and around Chennai, we anticipate the Ford Fiesta Sedan to do the same in the coming few months.

Going by Ford’s colorful history of making cars that are real fun to drive the 2011 Fiesta Sedan too might end up being a genuine driver’s car like the predecessor it replaces.

ZDNet reports that a biodiesel conversion specialist, Jonathan Goodwin, has retrofitted a Hummer to run on ethanol, hydrogen, biodiesel or natural gas. The car gets the equivalent to 40 miles per gallon. Goodwin's company is an alternative energy start-up, SAE Energy. The company is filling an unlikely niche in the clean tech market: making muscle cars green. He's already converted about 60 H2 Hummers from gas to diesel and about 100 H1 hummers, including a Hummer that can burn the whole menu of clean fuels.

A gas-to-diesel conversion boosts a Hummer's mileage from about 10 miles a gallon to between 22 and 24 miles a gallon. Additionally, the horsepower jumps from about 325 in the regular Hummer to 650, giving the car more power.

2011 Ford Fiesta Hatchback Car

While many feel that the Ford Figo will replace the Fusion, we feel otherwise. This, primarily because the Fusion was a much bigger and a more powerful car than the Figo, not to mention the higher price it commanded. We are more inclined to name the Ford Fiesta Hatchback as the Fusion’s replacement as it could fit right into the price point of the erstwhile Fusion.

As other manufacturers like Volkswagen and Fiat bringing in their premium hatchbacks, the Fiesta hatchback could be the perfect challenger from Ford. In addition to all this, we’ve been spotting the Ford Fiesta Hatchback testing in and around the outskirts of Chennai, further bolstering our view. Anyway, we’ll find that out pretty soon. Keep an eye on this space.

Ford Fusion Hatchback Picture

Ford India has formally announced that the Ford Fusion will be discontinued even as it will drive in the Ford Figo hatchback in March of this year. The Fusion hatchback, though a very capable car just couldn’t sell in India as it was in a segment of it’s own, a segment that was a not-so-popular one.

The Fusion’s high price also deterred many buyers who alternatively settled for sedans or even MPVs like the Toyota Innova.

Some years ago, flying car might be an imagination only. It only a imagination vehicle in animation films. But, flying car is reel. Hope it will come to the market a couple of years to go. Moller Skycar M400, its a succeed flying car prototype which just has been tested several days ago.

The Moller Skycar is a prototype personal VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft — a “flying car” — called a “volantor” by its inventor Paul Moller, who has been attempting to develop such vehicles for many years. The design calls for four ducted fans – the propellors being covered which is safer and more efficient at low speeds.

Ford Figo Car Review

Celebrities. The other evening, I was shuffling across the pages of a lifestyle magazine. As I was flipping through the leaves, a pretty face made me go back a couple of pages. She looked familiar, like a celebrity we know.

Curiously, I read between the lines to have my first ‘whoa!’ moment of the year. No it wasn’t a ‘he turned her’, it WAS, in fact, the celebrity! She was a young lady, in her mid-late twenties (not so sure now) and quite fit, but she had gone under the knife to carve up the face in the picture.

Suddenly, I felt the gaping question of why some people prefer trusting a man with a knife more than God, being answered. You see, she never really caught my fancy before she went under the knife, but after, unfortunately made me re-track my flipping.

The catch here though, is that she has to make do with the same set of lungs, kidneys and I think a brain as well, but sometimes, that’s a good thing. Much the way of the newest wheels from Henry Ford’s legacy. Meet the Figos.

Implying ‘cool’ in Italian, the Figo does look happy. Happiness equivalent to a sunny spring summer morning, with the paper on your doorstep, and a recent pay cheque and a hot cuppa. Its eyeliner-lined headlamps are something you will love to see after a dreary day at work. A bread and circus car, if you will. It is possibly the only mini in the country that will look great in green.

Following Ford’s global Kinetic design direction pointed by Martin Smith, the Figo comes off as a winsome sibling to Ford’s international hatchback, the exciting Focus. The wheel-arches and skirts give it a muscular stance. At the rear, the lights flank the windscreen like in the Fusion. Although the Figo has clear and crisp lines, I reckon that if the spoiler was a bit more pronounced, the car would’ve looked sportier.

What Ford has done here is take the Fusion, do away with boxy looks and the confusing ride height, add more oomph, and botox the face into a car worthy of a second-look. Safe, but not conservative styling from Ford for its first legitimate B+ segment-er.

Now, before I talk of the interior trim, I feel I must forewarn you about the car’s dash. It’s a weird colour. A result of an un-fortuitous encounter between marshmallows and vomit. Sorry, but it IS that distasteful. The only possible advantage I could conjure up is the reduction of dashboard reflection on the windscreen. If this is the cure, I’d rather have the disease. Ford say the colour is ‘thanks’ to something called injection moulding and they add that there is a ‘normal’ dash version available. Small mercies.

Interior trim levels are not exactly bang-up but neither are they unsound. The splash of silver all around looks nice but feels cheap. Circular air-con vents are functionally great. Quality of switch-gear again treads the middle-line. Seats are comfortable with good side support and the fabrics looks like they’ll last the distance and the steering has good feel. With the driver’s seat configured for a reasonably sized driver, all six feet one inch of me could fit in comfortably but it might be a bit cramped for three at the back.

What took me back was the lack of rear power-windows even on the A+ trim (Titanium). This is like vegetable biryani, unacceptable. Boot space is big enough to fit the entire cast of Kyon Ki… Ford has done well to retain the Fusion’s interior space offering.

Under the hood, you’ll find a choice of two engines. The diesel is the same 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder DuraTorq Mill powering the Ikon, Fiesta and Fusion. The output is fairly unchanged (you can’t say up-ed from 67 bhp) at 68 bhp and torques remain firmly unchanged at a nice 160 Nm. In a diesel, the sweet spot generally is unreachable, but as the case with the DuraTorqs, the power is fathomable at 4,000 revs and the torque at a lower 2,000 rpms.

The petrol is a new 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder DuraTec engine churning out 70 bhp at a rev-happy 6,250 rpm and 102 torques at 4,000 rpm. This engine doesn’t make sense except for a lower asking price. We’ll discuss that a little later on.

The diesel feels nice and familiar. A bit loud on the outside but cabin noise is nicely subdued although a bit of vibrations do percolate. The power is satisfactory, engine is responsive and the gear shifts are exact. The petrol is bit of a let-down. With not enough usable power and fewer torques than its competitors, it is a mere formality of an engine.

The diesel then is the winner. With a tried and tested engine, the diesel is most likely to be a better proposition for the discerning driver/traveler.

Cars from Ford have always caught my fancy. No, not because they look nice – the Escort looked like a squint fish, the Ikon had/has looks that only its mother could like and the Fiesta could never really peek out of its cloak of invisibility. No, I liked them because they drove really well and the Figo doesn’t disappoint. The seating position is excellent. With a clear view of the road, the ergonomics are spot-on.

A good feel of the road reach you through the steering wheel. The horn is sadly a little too loud inside the cabin. Maybe this will help mend those incessant honkers. The handling is precise and the driving feel is quite super.

With the Escort, the Ikon, the Mondeo and the Endeavour, Ford had established a good brand image. Few years later, arrived the Ford Fusion. This car suffered severely from D.I.D, mostly stemming from a marketing mishap. Ford marketers did not know where to fit the car – a MPV, a hatchback, a mini…they were as confused as Bobby Darling’s underwear. Me? I would include it in my garage. Albeit a bit boxy, it comfortably seats five, drove well, had a well powered 1.6 litre 100 bhp petrol heart (the diesel was better value) and a boot that was anything but scant.This car put practicality before anything else and sometimes, that’s a good thing. It’s unfortunate that the masses don’t figure it out and quite frankly, I don’t blame them. What killed the car finally, was the price. This car was priced per a C-Segment-er. This meant it was missing a whole body part, the separate boot.

The Figo is priced very well. A decent version of the car will set you back by INR 3.81 lakh (ex-showroom) for the petrol and Rs 4.72 (ex-) for the diesel. Compared to the sort-of similar priced i10, you get a space fest with the Figo. The Polo versions are again more expensive than the Figo. Good value for money then.

If you are keen about travelling (long or fairly long) in comfort, go for the diesel Figo. It packs a decent punch, has plenty of space and the engine is a proven mill. The petrol is a ho-hum affair. It sure wins the price war but doesn’t win my heart. Go for it if the diesel doesn’t bake your biscuit.

World Cheapest Car

Indian car manufacturer, Tata Motors, has unveiled the world’s cheapest motor car at India’s biggest car show in the capital, Delhi. The vehicle, called the Tata Nano, will sell for 100,000 rupees or $2,500 (£1,277) and enable those in developing countries to move to four wheels. Please visit our former post about this project.

The four-door five-seater car, which goes on sale later this year, has a 33bhp, 624cc, engine at the rear. Tata will initially make about 250,000 Tata Nanos and expects eventual annual demand of one million cars. The price will be slightly more than the 100,000 once tax and other costs are taken into consideration. The Nano release comes as India’s domestic car market is predicted to soar in the coming years on the back of the country’s fast-growing economy and increased consumer wealth.

A few weeks ago I covered the world of gold cars. This time I’ll take a look at the world of ice cars, that is cars made of real ice and snow.

You are totally right if you think that such cars can’t move, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be cool. You just have to think of them as statues instead of vehicles.

First up we have a Volkswagen that was left to melt in the middle of London, United Kingdom. Apparently it was part of an advertising campaign for a new model.

Another one that was parked somewhere in Toronto, Canada.

Next up we have a few ice cars from various car exhibitions. First a Ford and a Chevrolet.

Last we have an awesome McLaren F1 race car made of ice.

Garage Made Star Wars Cars

It’s time to take at look at what real Star Wars geeks drive – or wish they were driving. In other words, it’s time to take a look at the top 10 home made Star Wars cars.

Let’s start out with the H-Wing Fighter, which might be the most famous Star Wars car in the world. It’s based on an old Honda and it even has its own website.

Another famous Star Wars conversion is the Landspeeder replica, which is based on a Ford Escort from the eighties. It apparently have blue light shinning from below, so it really looks like it’s flying down the road.

The Landspeeder above isn’t the only Landspeeder replica in the world, but it sure looks better than the two following attempts.

Next up we have three quite normal looking cars if it weren’t for the blaster holes and the at-dt robot in the back of the pickup truck. The car with the Rebel pilot has its own website.

Even trucks can get a Star Wars makeover if you are enthusiastic enough about it, so here we have the one and only Darth Maul truck with a rocket trailer.

Last we have a rather ugly Sandcrawler from planet Tatooine conversion and Rebel fighter based on an old Fiat.

Big Motorcycle Engines

Most motorcycles have small engines with a displacement around 500 ccm or less, while hyper sport motorcycles have engines around 1000 ccm and big cruisers around 1500 ccm.

But there are motorcycles out there with engines so big that they will make your car engine look small. Engines so big, that they need enormous gasoline tanks to keep up with the fuel consumption.

Let’s take a look at three motorcycles with really big engines.
