SHANE BASKERVILLE from School of Rock tells us how the kids are rockin here in Minnesota. Shane has been playing in bands for 18 years. His former local band 'Helva' was the first unsigned band to play Edgefest in front of 30,000 people and was managed by the same management as Sublime. They were also voted one of the top ten unsigned bands in the country by Rolling Stone magazine. Helva also had a song featured on the MGM movie release, "The Smokers." After Helva's untimely demise, Shane moved out to Los Angeles where he played in two major label bands including Virgin/immortals 'us crush'. Shane also played with 80's rock icons Poison for a VH1 special. While in L.A. Shane played with members of Smashmouth, L7, Frank Zappa, Ugly Kid Joe...he has also played with Columbia records artists 'amen'. Shane has been on the Warped Tour and has shared the stage with Social Distortion, Smashmouth, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Goldfinger, Papa Roach, Story of the Year, Slightly Stoopid, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Sugar Ray, Limp Bizkit, Scott Wieland and many more. Dating back to when he was only three years old. That’s when he recorded his first ever song at the Minnesota State Fair. It was his version of LL Cool J’s "I’m Bad". Since then, Ripz has recorded many mixtapes with the Fondren Boys as well as making tracks with Ciph of the one time Minneapolis based group The Professionals and recording many songs with the Trapstars, also from Minneapolis. JOHANNESBURG — Paris Hilton was detained in the South African city of Port Elizabeth on Friday for possession of marijuana, two South African police officers said.
The officers spoke on condition of anonymity, since they were not authorized to release Hilton's name before she appeared in court.
A spokeswoman for police at Port Elizabeth, Brig. Marinda Mills, declined to confirm the name, but said a high profile person was appearing in court.
"This person is appearing in court right now. We cannot reveal information about her until she has appeared in court. I am here with the individual in court, we're waiting for the court to start," Mills told the Associated Press.
Hilton's Los Angeles-based publicist, Dawn Miller, said she was awaiting details from the court appearance before commenting.
A local radio station in Johannesburg said Hilton was detained outside the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, following the quarterfinal match between Brazil and Netherlands.
A police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Hilton was caught with an unspecified amount of marijuana.
"She was found in possession of some amount of dagga," the officer said, using the local name for marijuana. "We don't know how much. It's a high profile person, only the top cops are dealing with it," he said.
Further proof that the 2010 summer concert season is taking a beating came late Thursday afternoon when the Nettwerk Music Group announced the cancellation of 10 upcoming Lilith concerts in North America.

Speed and warmth are the hallmarks of "The Final Frontier," Iron Maiden's 15th studio album. The British metal sextet recorded at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas -- returning to the spot where the group had previously recorded between 1983-86.

"We breezed through the album, really," guitarist Dave Murray tells Billboard.com. "We actually finished it in six weeks. We were getting down a track a day -- all playing together as a band, Bruce (Dickinson) singing, all in the same room, so there's a very live-in-the-studio feel to it. Once we finished a track we'd jump straight into doing some extra guitar bits. It was very quick for us."

Murray says the 10-track set, produced by Kevin Shirley, mixes "straight-ahead, uptempo rock songs with good grooves with some other tracks that are kind of longer and more complex." One, the politically-tinged "El Dorado," is currently available for fans to download. Another highlight is the album-closing "When the Wild Wind Blows," an 11-minute track that's one of the longest songs Iron Maiden has ever recorded. "The rhythm's a little bit different from what we've done before, and there's lots of melodies," Murray reports. "It's a big song. We learned it in sections just because it was such a complex arrangement, but it sounds quite natural (on the record)."

"The Final Frontier" is Iron Maiden's first set of new material since 2006's "A Matter of Life and Death," the group's longest gap ever between studio albums. But Murray says that thanks to other projects -- including 2009's platinum-selling, award-winning documentary "Flight 666" -- the group didn't feel the time pass. "There was still a lot of stuff coming out from the band, so it doesn't feel like four years," he says. "I guess time flies when you're having fun."

The Iron Maiden gang is getting its kicks again on the road, atypically touring before a new album's release. The group -- which wraps its North American trek on July 20 and kicks off in Europe 10 days later -- is playing "El Dorado" amongst established favorites such as "The Number of the Beast," "Hallowed Be Thy Name" and "Iron Maiden," but Murray says it's looking forward to bringing more of the new material to the stage in the future.

"It's summer so we just wanted to go out and enjoy ourselves and play a lot of old material are fans are going to know," he explains. "We'll definitely be out again -- We're not sure when, but we'll definitely be playing more songs from the new album. But at the moment it's nice because you're always planning ahead and what you're going to be doing in five years, and sometimes it's nice to just live in the moment."

Lizzy Borden has been confirmed for the Stockholm Rock Out Festival, set to take place September 10-11 in Alvik Stockholm, Sweden. This will be the only Scandinavian show in 2010. Brazil will host the first stage of international classic metal tour
Hellish War will be the Brazilian representant of the "American Old School Metal Attack Tour" that also counts with Enchanter from United States and Split Heaven from Mexico
To promote the classic heavy metal made in the Americas and celebrate the union of fans and musicians. This is the goal of the "American Old School Metal Attack Tour", an integrated tour that will happen in three countries,Brasil, United States and Mexico, having as protagonists the bands HELLISH WAR (representing Brazil), ENCHANTER (representing United States) and SPLIT HEAVEN (Mexico representants).
The first leg of the tour happens in Brasil in July 2010, right after the Footbal World Cup.
It will be four shows: 22/07 in Sorocaba/SP at Estrada de Ferro Sorocabana FC, with Brave as opening-act; 23/07 in Campinas/SP at Sebastian Bar; 24/07 in Matão/SP at Pantheon, with Status as opening-act; and 25/07 inBotucatu/SP at Praça ParaTodos, with Mythria as opening-act.

The idea of the "American Old School Metal Attack Tour" came when HELLISH WAR and ENCHANTER performed together in Germany during the mythical "SwordBrothers Festival". With similar styles, focusing on classic/eighties heavy metal, both planned to make a tour together by the United States and Brazil. Later, SPLIT HEAVEN also joined the project and Mexico was included into the plot.
The three bands are hired from the German label Pure Steel Records, one of the sponsors of the tour.

APPALACHIAN TRAIL CONSERVANCY ASKS SUPPORTERS TO HIKE TO IT!  APPALACHIAN TRAIL CONSERVANCY OFFERS DISCOUNTS ON TENNESSEE A.T. LICENSE PLATES THROUGH EASTMAN CHEMICAL COMPANY FOUNDATION GRANT   (KINGSPORT, Tenn, January 19, 2010)—A grant from the Eastman Chemical Company Foundation is allowing the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) to underwrite discounts on the fees for the next 500 people to apply for an Appalachian Trail license plate in Tennessee.  Once 1,000 applications are received and the state begins producing tags, ATC’s share of the renewal fees will serve as a permanent funding source for the organization's work to protect and maintain the 280 miles of the Appalachian Trail in the state.  As a result of the grant, the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) license plates are now available for $15 instead of the usual $35 annual fee. Renewals will be at the standard $35 annual fee.  ATC is offering its own incentive as well, thanking people who sign up for the license plate with a one-time annual membership to the national nonprofit. Existing ATC members may give someone else the membership as a gift.  The specialty A.T. license-plate program will benefit the state’s natural resources and national treasure in several ways. It will broaden awareness for this resource by widely promoting the Trail on vehicles from Memphis to Bristol. In addition, each plate will generate $15.56 annually for ATC, supporting management of such programs as land conservation, volunteer-based trail and facilities maintenance, natural-resources management, and programs that introduce children and teachers to the A. November 17, 2009 -- It was announced today that William Morris Endeavor Entertainment has inked an international representation agreement with ex-KoRn guitarist BRIAN “HEAD” WELCH. The initial term of the agreement is for three years. Ember Rigsby Tanksley of WMEE will be principally responsible for spearheading representation duties from WMEE’s Nashville, TN office.

The addition of HEAD to its existing powerhouse music division continues to fulfill WMEE’s post-merger goal (with Endeavor) of adding marquee names to its roster. Although based out of Nashville, Tanksley will also work with and take advantage of WMEE’s offices and agents in its Los Angeles, New York, and London offices. Tanksley also handles duties for such top Christian acts as Flyleaf, Emery, and Switchfoot. WMEE’s traditional recording artist roster includes Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Ozzy Osbourne, Tool, Shinedown, Puddle of Mudd and the Goo Goo Dolls, to name a few.

Earlier this year, HEAD announced that he had chosen his bandmates—Michael Valentine (bass); Scott Von Heldt (guitars); Ralph Patlan (guitars); Brian Ruedy (keyboards, programming) and Dan Johnson (drums). The band toured lightly in 2009; but is ready to hit the road full time in 2010.

Be Damned! Mother Jackson Stands Loud and Proud! America in the ..00s is a crazy f*&^%n.. place. Is the economy getting better or worse? Can anyone, from the government to friends and family, be trusted anymore? Are we headed into an era of enlightenment or are we hovering on the edge of armageddon? Uncertainty abounds both at home and abroad and the tensions are rising in the air. And rising. Amidst such turbulent tides comes the release of Loud and Proud: The Soundtrack to Damnation -- the new salvo from Athens, Ga. rockers Mother Jackson -- an album that skates across, through and around these troubled times like a contemporary counterpart to Wyatt and Billy..s transcendent trek in the classic ..60s paean, ..Easy Rider... Of course, such grand journeys rarely start that way. For Mother Jackson, the ride began simply enough, with a return jaunt to the studio for the follow-up to the band..s 2004 rock and roaring debut, Suck on This. But whereas that LP was recorded in a drug and alcohol-filled haze with co-conspirator Peter Fancher at Elixir studios, this time around the motley Mother Jackson crew decided to keep things a little more *ahem* focused for the new sessions. Holed up with uber-producer David Barbe (ex-Sugar, Drive-By Truckers) at his Chase Park Transduction complex, a lean and mean Mother Jackson laid down 10 howling and scowling tracks in just a handful of days, completing the record with an edgy, though yeoman-like attitude indicative of how MoJack..s six-year journey has forged the players from former roommates into one helluva rock and roll band. Drifting back, Mother Jackson first started its musical trip in mid-2001 when guitarist Paul McHugh, drummer Jim Wilson and bassist Nathan Allen decided to metamorphose their co-habitation in an Athens house (and the accompanying service-industry jobs) into a more permanent musical collaboration. Yet another guitarist, Richard Mikulka, moved into the rocking residence a few months later and was, of-course, drafted into the Mother Jackson ranks. From there, the rock and roll simply commenced, with the four friends honing a hard and heavy sound that reverberated with the strains of Southern rock and NYC punk .. and made them immediate favorites in a college rock scene more typically known for its jangle pop or jam rock. After a brief stint opening fellow-minded rockers the Drive-By Truckers, whose frontman, Patterson Hood, had already become a big supporter of the band on the A-T-H scene, Mother Jackson ..tweaked.. its line-up when Nathan Allen opted out and was replaced with another service industry friend, Chuck Bradburn, also of Southern Bitch. With Bradburn added to the mix, Mother Jackson..s sound developed an even greater cohesion and depth -- with the propulsive now being elevated to the explosive. Following the successful in-roads of Suck on This, the same line-up of McHugh, Wilson, Mikulka and Bradburn reconvened in mid-2006 for the Loud and Proud: The Soundtrack to Damnation sessions. The resulting LP, due out in early 2007 via Mother Jackson..s own imprint, is an electrifying, barn-storming trip of a record that bristles with both the manic energy of protest-era MC5 and the blues-bottomed grooves of Bon Scott-fronted AC/DC. But make no mistake about it, despite the obvious love of certain ..vintage.. heavy riffs and hard licks (and, hey, there are only about 100 ..common.. rock chords anyway), Mother Jackson stands as its own beast entirely on Loud and Proud. And that beast is no mere cub to be trifled with. Not anymore, as Mother Jackson takes caustic shots at the ..Big.. picture (i.e. ..Big.. business and ..Big-brother.. government) through out The Soundtrack to Damnation. From the album..s opener, ..In My Blood,.. which finds Wilson bellowing about the honor and virtue inherent fighting the ..good fight,.. to the McHugh-penned ..The Game (of the Spider and the Fly),.. which blasts a complacent public for letting the government get away with, well, anything, Loud and Proud hits with the impact of a socially-minded sonic sledgehammer. MoJack expresses further solidarity and sympathy for the working man on such blue-collared cuts as ..Living This Way,.. while demonstrating a wry sense of humor about the reflexive nature of song-writing and being in a band in Wilson..s ..Get What You Want... And then there..s the brooding album closer, ..Back at the Ranch,.. which begins as a stark meditation about a cattleman..s ruinous plight (see Paul Newman..s ..Hud..), then wades into even murkier emotional depths, buoyed by McHugh and Mikulka foreboding guitar wash and Wilson and Bradburn..s death march of a rhythm section. Yes, these are problematic times and the world could very well be teetering on the verge. No, Mother Jackson doesn..t claim to know the answers, but they..ve certainly been thinking about the questions on Loud and Proud: The Soundtrack to Damnation. And if we..re all truly standing at the brink of the abyss, wouldn..t it be best to embrace the rock and roll, take a trip -- and take our chances where we can? "A very special tour needed a special ending and it sure was! We had a great time at every single one of the shows, met some incredible people with great stories to tell, fans that were simply on fire and they always make us want to fly even higher. Going home is always good in a way but we already miss being on the road. It's our life and we are anxious for more!". With those words female lead singer Dani Nolden described the most recent Shadowside tour through the U.S. It closed off at the Hard Rock Cafe in Pittsburgh, PA.

The frontwoman recently posted on the band's official MySpace a complete journal telling details about the shows, as well as both fun and tough moments of the road trip. Wake Up Screaming 2009 U.S. Tour lasted a little over 2 weeks and went through the States of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana. THE GREENING

THE GREENING, an experimental psychedelic power-pop band from Northern California, will release their latest EP, (SHE'S SO) ELECTRIC, on September 29 (ZaiRecords). Marking the follow-up to their 2003 debut EP, AFTER SHOAL PARLOR, features four blisteringly catchy tunes and an encoded animated video for the single, "Sunday Afternoon," directed by renowned local artist/animator Danny Ochoa. It was recorded at a private studio in Marin, and was produced and mixed by guitarist/vocalist Will Loving.

The Greening's mission statement is to push pop music to new frontiers through their blend of accessible experimentation. Combining memorable hooks, strong melodies and cascading vocal harmonies, the band craft instantly memorable songs. However, the radio friendly nature of the songwriting disguises its underlying complexity. Surprise bridges and unexpected arrangements/time signatures unite to enhance the compositions in an integrated fashion.

The ideology behind their sound evolves from an appreciation of the psychedelic movement, forgotten ‘70s art rock, classic ‘60s pop, and the ultimate desire to combine elements of all of these with a psychotic injection of punk energy.
On (SHE’S SO) ELECTRIC, The Greening--—singer/guitarist Will Loving, keyboardist/vocalist Karl Meischen, drummer Nick Tatro--accomplish their mission again, delivering songs whose pop sensibilities are matched by their underlying attention to detail. With stronger vocals and a more solid sound, songs like “(She’s So) Electric” and “Sunday Afternoon” detail the bands’ continual evolution. While swathes of delayed resonance float between snare cracks and vocal lines, the compositions never fall apart, rather, coalescing into original numbers as unique as their San Francisco home base. With their eccentric synergy coming to the forefront once again, listeners are left with a feeling reciprocal to the band’s – a feeling of curiosity.
