There were about a dozen male and female singers with excellent voices and the tunes were catchy with a good amount of reverb in the drum tracks. I fondly remember those good times and just made a playlist of mostly Ray Conniff Singers Christmas songs. I hope you enjoy them!

Then at 16 seconds, we get organ and guitar belting out one of my favorite Garage Rock 4 chord progressions which immediately causes my brain to light up all circuits and my body to bop and dance in my chair. Its the same pattern used by The Pandoras in one of my favorites, "That's Your Way Out" - if it doesn't get you excited and moving some part of your body, check your pulse cuz you may in fact be dead!

Vocals kick in, asking where ya gonna run to? You gotta pay. It's Judgement Day. "You've been a Bad Girl." Another brilliant Garage Rock theme common in 1966 and dragged into 2012 by this Australian Garage Punk band on the Rumble Skunk Records label. The lead vocal is gritty but understandable. The backing woah woahs are there. The drums are pounding but a bit burried in the fury of the other audio tracks, but they come through at the high end due to the cymbal pounding.

When you hear the scream at 1:23, you know the guitar break is here! All manner of psychedelic hell breaks loose as the guitar screams and wails in a powerful, energetic perfect 60s Garage freeform solo, but floating barely above the still full sound of organ, thumping bass runs and drums.

Back to the organ providing that glorious chord progression again, but this time with the drums right there clearly in the forefront. After another verse and chorus and two yelps and a short organ outro dump you suddenly into silence, leaving you spent but smiling from this fantastic voyage!

Have a listen to this great Garage Rock tune! The video description is under the video. Note the email address provided for info on buying the LP this appears on. Listen and share, let's get this video to 1000+ views!

It now has 431 listens; Double the number from a month ago. People are still going to Mixcloud to check it out. Garage Rock lives on in 2012!

People like the Garage Pop sound of the first track by William Penn and His Pals. They dig the fuzz of the next two tracks, probably produced by the owner of the lead guitar amp sticking a screwdriver through the speaker to get that intense overdriven fuzz sound without having to buy a fuzzbox!

Garage lives on in the 21st century and people dig the two modern tracks by Lyn Price and The Cons. You can find more music by Lyn on our Record Label website, and read more about The Cons here.

I went crazy with the Psychedelic tracks on this podcast! Six heavy trippy crazy tracks with all kinds of vocal styles and powerful guitar solos. One track is even by The Grateful Dead, recorded BEFORE their first album. I'm going to put another Grateful Dead track on my next podcast!

Like I said last post, I like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Rihanna and Adele as much as the next person - but sometimes you gotta try something new and COMPLETELY Different! It's going to be cool to watch Madonna doing the half time show at the Super Bowl this weekend, I'm a Madonna fan too. But I also love obscure 60s Garage Rock, Runk, Indie and Psychedelic music, so I make these really cool podcasts to feature that kind of music.

Will YOU have a listen?

Garage Rock Radio Podcast 11 - Garage Rock and Acid Rock Psychedelic Songs from the 60s and today! by Garagerockradiorecords on Mixcloud

Garage Rock Radio podcast 11 doing well!

It's been just one week since the latest Garage Rock Radio podcast, number 11, hit the interwebs. We're happy to report that listens on Mixcloud are going well! Almost 200 listens so far and a lot of new "followers".

I'm listening to the podcast right now! I think this one is a good mix of 60s Garage Rock in all its lo-fi glory, new high quality Garage / Indie Rock tunes, and fuzzy Gothic Psychedelic 60s tunes with some extended guitar solos. Included in the Psychedelic portion of the show is a very early recording by The Grateful Dead, right after they changed from The Warlocks! That is followed by a trippy dirge with spacey guitar during the verses followed by piercing fuzz riffs during the TWO extended guitar breaks! Lyrics to "Song of a Sinner" which the vocalist is singing to God:

... And yet, I ask to be forgiven, knowing the life that I've been living.
And yes, I know its too late, oh. 'Cuz on your judgement day you're gonna close your gate, on me. On me? On me! Here are the ones I really like!

First, as a reminder, I have a YouTube channel for Garage Rock, and you should check it out and Subscribe! We have uploaded a few songs from artists that we work with on our Garage Rock Radio Records label. Plus, we have 145 Garage Rock videos in our Favorites playlist and 44 Doo Wop tunes in our Doo Wop playlist.

Check out our newest upload. It's a Garage Rock / Punk / Indie cover of the Vogues 60s ballad minor hit, "Magic Town." But this version is no ballad; it Rocks! Have a listen, and pay attention to how the singer, Lynette Price, expresses the sadness and frustration of the lyrics - "Where's the magic in this magic town? Where's the good life they said could be found? Where's the magic to make all my big dreams come true?" Musicians everywhere can identify with this!

BUY "NYC Garage And Blue Lemonade." - the CD that this song is on, for only $5.50 at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/lynprice.
You can also download individual tracks for $0.99 or the album for $6.00.

Now, here are links to Garage Bands YOU should check out!!!

The Monolithics
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/themonolithics
Mon-o-lith-ic: (adj) massive, solid, and uniform. The Monolithics are born. Plus, they proudly wear their influences on their sleeves, they are veterans of the road and they know a few things about being rock'n'roll losers. Does this ring a bell? You bet it does... and in case you're still hesitant, just take alisten: you'll learn something about rock'n'roll. MUSIC FEST

The first Power Pop-A-Licious music festival will take place on Saturday April 30th & Sunday May 1st at the legendary rock club Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park, NJ. Conceived and curated by power pop legend Paul Collins (cofounder of THE NERVES, THE BREAKAWAYS and THE BEAT) the fest will bring together some of the finest young guitar-driven power pop, garage rock and punk-pop bands from across the U.S. and Canada. Power Pop-A-Licious is a unifying rally cry for this thriving rock-n-roll subculture, and is a means for power pop fans of all ages to discover a wealth of talented new music acts in one power-packed weekend.
Collins explains the concept behind the festival, "I was touring all over the country with my Beat Army Tours, when it hit me, I gotta bring all these great bands I'm playing with together for one crazy weekend!"

This all-ages event is ground zero for a burgeoning DIY power pop scene that's been fueled by the immediacy of the Internet, the devotion of its fans, and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Each day will feature bands from different regions of the country, with local DJs spinning sets to create an all-day dance party atmosphere. Similar in approach to “happenings” in 1960's London, Power Pop-A-Licious is no mere rock n’ roll concert, it’s an event. DJs, performance artist’s video projections, and, of course, the spirited, high-energy live rock-n-roll performances from all these great new bands will provide the entertainment. The world-famous Asbury Lanes, where the two day fest will take place, is a vintage bowling alley, bar and live music venue with a capacity of 300, and is located in the heart of beautiful Asbury Park.

Tickets for the fest will be $15 for Saturday and $10 for Sunday, and will be available to purchase online through TicketWeb: http://www.ticketweb.com
SCHEDULED BANDS FOR THIS YEAR'S POWER POP-A-LICIOUS FEST:
(click on band name for more info)

SATURDAY, APRIL 30TH
BAM BAMS (Baltimore)
PEACES (Brooklyn)
NEUTRON DRIVERS (NJ)
BAXX SISI'S (Brooklyn)
LANDLORD (Bloomington, ID)
FUTURE VIRGINS (Chattanooga)
DIRTY SHAMES (NYC)
AMOEBAS (Grand Rapids)
MOTHER'S CHILDREN (Ottawa)
HALF RATS (Indianapolis)

SUNDAY, MAY 1ST
BFs (Gloucester)
KURT BAKER (Portland, ME)
THE ABOVE (Brooklyn)
THE SPECTACLES (Maryland)
ELECTRIC MESS (NYC)
GLORY FIRES (Birmingham)
THE WALNUT KIDS (Montreal)
THE SIGHTS ( Detroit)
PAUL COLLINS (NYC)

http://www.asburylanes.com/schedule.htm

The Cons - "You'll Be My Baby"

Garage Rockers! Here's a video I just found on YouTube. This song is our kind of music!!! They use Vox equipment and 60s harmonies to create this groovy tune and excellent video. If you like The Dandy Warhols, Brian Jonestown Massacre and similar indie bands then you will love this band and this particular song!

I don't know anything about the group and a quick Google search found nothing except they may be from San Francisco. This song came out in 2007 so who knows if they are even around. All we have is this video and this page on OurStage:
http://www.ourstage.com/tracks/XEENYPVZUVPW-youll-be-my-baby which says, "The latest single from The Cons is a harmony-laden foray into arrogance, love, and rock n' roll. Uploaded: November 28, 2007"

And who is the girl in the video? Dark hair, dark eyes, beautiful woman! Who could she be? #WhosThatGirl If you know, comment below.

Watch this very groovy video and if you know anything about The Cons or the girl in the video, let me know!!!

THE LIKE - 60s Inspired Girl Group

Hello Garage Rockers! The song, sung by Lyn Price, is a great example of Garage Rock - raw 1960s punk pop featuring fuzzy guitars, pounding drums, pulsating organs, pumping basslines and snearing vocals with background harmonies.

Visit our website - Garage Rock Radio - for MP3s and podcasts of 60s Garage Rock tunes!

Garage Rock Radio Podcast 10

Here is GarageRockRadio Podcast #10!

This podcast has a NEW song by Lyndsey Price, on Garage Rock Radio Records.

We start off with the Garage Rock Radio Theme intro, by Lyndsey Price.
Song 1: Magic Town - Lyndsey Price
Song 2: When I Think Of You - Twiggy
Song 3: Cry No More - Ko and The Knockouts
Song 4: That's Your Way Out - The Pandoras
Song 5: She'll Love Again - The Cascades
Song 6: Don't Tell Me Lies - Tommy Tucker and The Esquires
Song 7: HEY JOE! - Violet Wing
Song 8: Day And Night - Drag Set
The outro is "Why Girl?" by Thee Lightning.

Here's the link to the podcast, recorded in super hi-fi at 320Kbps:

GRRpodcast10.mp3

You can also listen to this podcast on MixCloud!
Garage Rock Radio Podcast 10 at MixCloud
Please Share, Favorite, Like and Comment! Lyndsey's cover is an upbeat rocking version of this cool tune! The chorus reminds me of Nirvana's huge hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - especially since the drum riff is very similar. This song is on Lyndsey's new CD - "NYC Garage And Blue Lemonade"

Song 2 is by the famous 60s Model / icon, Twiggy. It's a cool, hip 60s Garage pop tune!

Song 3 is a new Garage Hard rocking tune by Ko and The Knockouts. Ko hosts a show at Little Stevens Underground Garage channel on Sirius radio. This song is one THE BEST New Garage Rock songs!

Song 4 is from 80's all-girl Garage Rockers, The Pandoras. This is one of THE BEST Garage Rock songs of the 80s! If this doesn't get you up and dancing around the room, check your pulse cuz you might be dead!

Songs 5, 6 and 8 are very cool original 60s Garage Rock songs that you will love!

Song 7 is a spooky psychedelic perfect-for-Halloween song - a 60s cover of Jimi Hendrix' hit, "Hey Joe!" - complete with a Theremin, very cool! You have to hear this!

Well, enjoy the music. It's only 28 minutes, so go listen!

Beg Borrow and Steal

In 1965, a bunch of kids from Ohio were in a band that released the amazing Garage Rock classic, Beg Borrow and Steal, under the name of The Rare Breed and Ohio Express.

In 2008, two of these kids released a YouTube video on their BegBorrowAndSteal channel of them performing their song.

Here are three videos of this awesome tune. The first is a video of what sounds like the 45 single, most likely in mono. The seond is someone playing the Stereo Album version, with a cool locomotive intro. The third is of the original "kids" who recorded it, from 2008.

You can download an MP3 of the song from our site. It was recorded from the Mod Monday 60s Radio Show on WNYU in NY in 1983 on a portable radio with a built-in cassette recorder. You can hear the DJ's voiceover at the end:
http://garagerockradio.com/BegBorrowAndSteal-OhioExpress.mp3

Also hear the 45 at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SX-nHcgnBLM

These are two of the original band who recorded Beg Borrow and Steal. It was released under names Rare Breed and Ohio Express. This is NOT a cover. People who recorded this record were: John Freno, Barry Stolnick, Alexander "Botts" Norbit, Joel Feigenbaum and Tony Cambria. The record did not sell when released under the "Attack" label, but sold about a half a million copies under "Cameo Parkway". We've also put the other song we recorded on YouTube, Lightning Doesn't Strike Twice. A picture of the original 5 who recorded these songs can be seen here.

YouTubeStars!
Looking for cool YouTube videos? There has only been a handful of releases to date, but each one has seen them pulling new shapes from the bag. Their best moment to date was last year’s hypnotic and spacey We Are Men single on the Skinny Wolves label, a pointer to the new-wave-no-wave-what-wave terrain they’re calling their own. Cap Pas Cap’s debut album should be one of this year’s highlights."
- Jim Carroll, Irish Times. Together with producer Kevin McMahon the band have crafted a ten track album that captures the energy of their live sets. The record blasts through one foot stomper after another, from the 2 minute rawness of Secret History, to the crashing drum solo on Believer right up to live favourite In My Time Of Dying. Due for release mid 2010, 'Marcata' is a record you'll come back to time and time again.
www.myspace.com/theminutesireland

DISCONNECT 4
"If you’re looking for an act that understands the co-relation between classic pop and cutting-edge indie, you’ve come to the right place." - Jim Caroll, Irish Times
"Disconnect 4 strike gold again with their new single - 'Disco Never Changes' is a little beauty!" - Dan Heagarty, 2fm
"Disconnect 4 have just produced one of my favourite Irish songs of the noughties, titled The Disco Never Changes it is featured on their new Modern Love EP!" - Alison Curtis, TodayFM
www.myspace.com/disconnect4

BOY FROM BRAZIL (DE)
a pandrogynous one man band who performed a daring Dada cabaret in
stilettos and suspenders with sputnik beats and polysexual rhythms. With a clanging, crashing, discordant sound that's like The Jesus Lizard and Fugazi getting a kicking from a seriously angry Gallows, it rages with a volatility that threatens to tear the whole thing apart at any moment. Vectors is a shot of pure punk adrenaline laced with broken glass, Choke is almost unbearably creepy and the apocalyptic crawl of Dead Road is one of the finest anti-anthems you'll hear this year. Breathtaking stuff."
- 4 Ks - Kerrang!
www.myspace.com/thewoundsband

MIGHTY ATOMICS
Ah, Mighty Atomics... What can be said about these three angry young men?
Like a mid-Atlantic nuclear weapon detonation, they cross the raw power of their heroes The Sonics and Link Wray with the nervous energy of early British beat-groups to create their wild, pounding and twanging sound. They have been quickly building a reputation as a seriously exciting live band in Ireland and across Europe with their full bore live shows.
www.myspace.com/mightyatomics

HOUSE OF DOLLS
Influenced by everything from Spiritualized to NEU! the noise made by Dublin 's House Of Dolls is bad to the bone hard edged psychedelia. Staf, Conor, Stuey & Jimmy comprise this gang of four. Epic build-ups, darkened grooves and glorious vocal melodies comprise their sound. Still very much a new band, House Of Dolls front with the maturity of a group who have occupied the dark spaces that their music takes you, and whose sophisticated list of influences, although notable could never outshine the raw passion of their recordings or live show.
Double A-Side GIMME SOME GLORY/BEFORE SHE WAKES out now on Firstborn Is Dead Recordings.
www.myspace.com/houseofdollsofficial

THE VAGABONDS
The Vagabonds are a Dublin based 4-piece punk-rock band. However, they transcend the mediocrity of the indulgent, egotistical and nepotistic ways, some of their better known peers are renowned for. They drive through the political and social landscape of their songs with little care for who may take offence along the way, if this band offend you; you don't understand. The Vagabonds have no time for bigots, racists and homophobes, if you are any of these things you should not listen to this band. Connected Magazine has called "a refreshing blend of tuneful punk melodies with grimy garage riffs to create a totally infectious sound" and renowned Limerick DJ, Alan Jaques, has refered to them as "Bob Dylan fronting The Clash". The band go into the studio in early June to record their debut single with Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur, Babyshambles) with a release pencilled in for September.
www.myspace.com/thevagabondway

Girls Names
Formed in January 2009 with their first gig booked before even playing together, Belfast 's Girls Names unabashedly hark back to the early/mid eighties shadow world of Beat Happening, Black Tambourine, Felt, C86 and the Sound of Young Scotland. In their short existence they have quickly honed their craft in creating their own self-styled “disposable noise pop”, masking subdued bittersweet vocals and melodic hooks with reverb drenched guitars and Mary Chain primal drums. Having sold out of their debut home taped demos on Cass/Flick (Belfast) last summer and after a string of support slots with the likes of Sic Alps, Wavves, Times New Viking, Lovvers and Gary War, Girls Names are set for their first release 'proper', with a 12" EP on Brooklyn’s much talked about Captured Tracks label and a full UK tour with label buddies, La La Vasquez in the spring. Expect more releases in the upcoming months through Cass/Flick and Tough Love Records ( London ) and a debut album in the offing before the year is out.
www.myspace.com/girlsnames

ROMANOVS GOODBYE
Exhuming the dead lineage of music's royal past, whilst bringing it round with an electroslap to the future, Romanovs Goodbye are a project designed to break with and shake with their own backgarden diet of post-punk, rave, grunge, electro and alternative rockulation. Instrumentally promiscuous, their cowbell-on-keyboard and guitar-from-the-drumstool swinging antics have found favour with those seeking to witness a fluid lineup twirling from synthy streams of doom-laden rock to softer throes of beatnik wistfulness. Delivering a dismissive hand-shandy to indie-schmindie, the Romanovs have sprung from their Liffey st. base to show those with ears what's ha'penning beyond the conveyor belt of traditional trashcan fashionrock.
Miss them and you'll be tsary.
www.myspace.com/romanovsgoodbye

BATS
Formed in 2006 by complex molecules, BATS have been dispersing their audio seed throughout Ireland and the rest of Europe with fervent vigour. Their debut E.P ‘Cruel Sea Scientist’ was released in late 2007 to much critical acclaim, and soon after the leatherwings were signed to independent label The Richter Collective. Their blend of visceral but catchy post-punk/hardcore/metal and scientific musings has attracted a wide spectrum of fans that continues to grow steadily. Much of 2008 was spent writing new material and performing live with such heavyweights as These Arms Are Snakes, The Locust, Liars, Sebadoh, Chrome Hoof and Gang Gang Dance.
