The tree is up and decorated and we’re all really excited about Christmas now. This week it’s our secret Santa, our last Christmas celebration before we break up, and we’re also having a big office move around ready for the New Year.

Christmas Party 2012!

Saturday day and night we celebrated our works Christmas party.

This year we did something a little different. We took to the indoor race track at Mr Karting in Warkwickshire. It was great fun, we got to take part in 12 races and the top 6 went through the final round. Our MD Jon came 1st (we told him we let him win as he is the boss!) Shaun in our Sales department came 2^nd and Chris in the warehouse was 3^rd place.

We headed to a beautiful Cotswold hotel The Three Ways House where there was great music, plenty of dancing and lots of food, plus a casino.

After the success of our latest mailer and our model Elosia, we spent a day at a house in North London to showcase our new Shutter blue collection and a range of our new Spring/Summer 2012 products.

We have extended our white ceramic range, from utensil holders, juicers, and jugs. We also will be bringing in many more products in our new colour Shutter Blue.

We have been busy preparing more products that we are sure you will love. We like to give our customers behind the scene look and a sneaky peek as what’s to come. Take a look at our website, some of our new images are online now. We would love you know what you think.

We can’t believe it’s 6 months since we were in London for the Spirit of Summer Fair, but in just a few days we’ll be setting up our stand for the Christmas Fair. So many of you came to see us last time - it was lovely to meet you all - and we hope you’ll visit again this time.

With just 8 weeks until Christmas, the Spirit of Christmas Fair is the perfect opportunity to find some fantastic ideas for presents, decorating the home, and even to wear – and so many of them not available on the high street. For our customers it’s a great opportunity to see Garden Trading’s latest products and to buy them off the shelf - look out for our brand new range of scented candle pots which we are launching for the first time at the Fair, available in a choice of fig, mulled cider and bitter vanilla.

What’s in a Name?

At Garden Trading so many of our products are designed to conjure up the spirit of a place, to evoke memories of a favourite spot or vista. This is reflected in the names we choose. Based in the heart of Oxfordshire amidst the Cotswold countryside, we take great inspiration from the towns and villages around us – Asthall, Langford and Swinbrook are all names given to our lights.

Some names, such as Brompton, Battersea, Rennes and Paris recall a certain city chic we hope to reproduce in our products. Others capture the beauty and wonder of warm Mediterranean climes, like Elba, and the name of our new colour way, Shutter Blue, is inspired by the characteristic blue shutters of France, which we love so much.

The Office is Filled With Gorgeous Smells!

Garden Trading wholesale department are thrilled to become the sole UK distributer for Marius Fabre, producers of exceptional quality natural soaps in Provence since 1900. It is such a privilege to be part of one of France’s finest soap traditions.

Today Marius Fabre uses the same techniques as it did over 100 years ago, the special recipes and secrets passed down in the Fabre family from generation to generation, from the founder Marius to his granddaughters today.

The handmade Marseilles soap Marius Fabre is famous for taking 14 days to produce, baked in cauldrons just as it was at the beginning, and left to dry naturally. All the Marius Fabre products are exceptionally kind to the environment, gentle to the skin and completely free from additives.

At the moment the office is awash with Marius Fabre’s gorgeous products and we’re so excited! We just love the aroma of oranges, pine, herbs and olive oil, evoking warm Mediterranean climes and the beautiful landscape of Provence. We already sell Marius Fabre’s Marseilles soaps on the retail website in a number of forms as well as some delicious-smelling liquid soaps, and this new relationship means that in the future we’ll be offering a lot more. We can’t wait to try them all out.

The Apple Season is Here

No matter how many years you’ve watched as the pretty blossom changes into delicious ripe apples, it’s still so exciting to pick and bite into your first fruit.

We’ve been talking about our favourite apple recipes at Garden Trading, but I think we all agree that it’s the comforting apple pie and apple crumble we love most. The great thing about them is they are so easy to make. For pies, you can make it even easier by buying ready-made shortcrust pastry.

For crumble topping, just use half of butter and sugar to flour – 6oz flour to 3oz butter and sugar should be enough to serve 4. Sieve the flour into a bowl, rub in the butter, stir in the sugar, add some spices if you like, and spoon over your sliced apples (fill the dish you are using almost to the top with apples, as they will go down when cooked). If you like a more wholesome crumble, you can use wholemeal flour and brown sugar, or try adding some oats into the mixture. Pop the crumble into the oven at 200ºC/Gas mark 6 to cook for about half an hour, testing to see if the apples are cooked with a skewer.

Garden Trading has some great products for picking and storing your apple harvest such as our wooden apple store and wicker apple picker or come along to Buckland Apple Day where we are going to be selling some of them. Held at Buckland Memorial Hall on Saturday 15^th October between 11am and 3pm, it promises to be a great day out, with lots of fun apple-themed activities, demonstrations and stalls.

We’re busy in the office getting ready for our warehouse sale this Friday and Saturday, so do come along if you live nearby. It’s a great chance to pick up a bargain, with lots of clearance items, offers and seconds – we’re sure you won’t go away empty-handed!

Excitement in the office is starting to build as we are preparing the launch of our new 2011 Autumn/Winter range. We aim to bring more of the practical and stylish products that you love. We have expanded our fireside accessories and introduced the new colour shutter blue to our kitchen range.

We are even more excited as this season we decided to try something a little different. With the help of some great models and our design team we spent a day at a house in Oxfordshire to showcase our new range.

We wanted you to be the first to see some behind the scene shots of what we have been working on and a sneaky peek at what products are to come.
