It is bold and sheer while also being soft and silent.

In Part 1 of my interview with Samuel R. Delany, I ended the interview with an invitation to address a topic of his interest, rather than mine. The result was an answer that was longer than the entire rest of the interview, one that I felt was insightful and revealing; so much so, that I and the editors of SF Signal decided to present it on it’s own, as Part 2 of our interview with our loquacious Grandmaster. At the end of Part 1 Mr. Delany states “I think, by now, I’ve suggested some answers.” Here now are more answers to that pesky, problematic question that I used to end the interview.

The Drought Continues

I have had five days off from running, though interjected a few days of hiking instead. My second week of vacation was spent recuperating from constant activity (cleaning, cooking, stocking food, entertaining, etc. an extra five people in our household!)–this was all good for the most part. But when it was all over, I sat down and could hardly get back up. The last day our company was here, we hiked around Buntzen Lake, and lo and behold, it was the first cool day after weeks, and we were suddenly exposed to a drenching, sweet rain that fell upon our tired, brown, and dry bodies.

Fat Wallet created this cool infographic contrasting the speeds of various ships from popular science fiction movies, TV series, and videogames (plus real-life NASA ships) to show which one is the fastest of them all. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy's Heart of Gold wins the top spot, with Doctor Who's Tardis coming second. Unsurprisingly, the infographic features several ships from Star Trek and Star Wars.

Of course, the author did not know about the Z99 and its ability to move across Einsteinian universes. Though Z99's speed is not infinite due to the distance limitation imposed by its 55-million years of particle spread, it is instantaneous within the portion of the universes crossed in 55-million years of travel at light speed.
