While I’m on the subject of seasonal things that suck, it’s convenient that I happen to be posting on valentines day. I don’t even need to say anything, it’s valentines day. I don’t know if it’s just the company I keep but no one in my immediate circle is like “HOLY SHIT VALENTINES DAY YES IT’S LIKE CHRISTMAS ROUND TWO!” everyone is fraught with anxiety and pissed off Facebook posts. Or I’d assume they’re being posted, because I’m super elite and deleted my Facebook. Yes. I deleted my Facebook. I still have a cell phone & email & a mailing address so there are plenty of ways for you to enter in to my world unsolicited, fear not.

So, here we are again. Podcast. Mixcast. MEDMACast. This weeks super special edition is brought to us by MEDMA alum & all around good bloke Kevin McQuillan. I didn’t even know that Kevin made electronic dancing music mixed for download until he tagged me in a note on Facebook. Usually I ignore these things, because I don’t even know what notes are and it’s probably something totally useful but it wasn’t there when I started using Facebook so obviously I never adopted it because new things are scary. I was really delighted by the mix and I asked him to throw one together for me. He had one for me like a day later. I’m used to waiting months for people to get back to me on these things so I was a little thrown off and sorry for the delay Kevin but I’m on a DJ’s schedule when it comes to these things.

I guess I’ll plug MEDMA too while we’re at it. These kids are awesome. MEDMA is a student run organization at the University of Michigan interested in all things electronic music. They host their own events in and around Ann Arbor, take field trips to parties to get seriously bombed & dance 3 hours after everyone else has tapped out and begged for mercy, and have been one of our biggest supporters for a while now. Most MEDMA members don’t know that I actually had a friend quite some time ago (2006?) who was a member, and he took me out to meet with then-members of MEDMA to “pregame on a yacht” before going to a Ferry Corsten concert at Bleu. Needless to say I skipped the Ferry Corsten show, and kind of umm didn’t really take them very seriously at that point. Then one day they decided that they are basically more important to Gary Springs than Gary himself and have been riding our shitwave of destruction for over a year now. Thanks MEDMA.

I don’t have much else to say. We’re involved in an epic battle with the forces that are trying to destroy us, we’re the Starship Troopers and they’re the bugs, RICOS ROUGHNECKS HUHHHH. We’ll win, hopefully, if we don’t we’ll just stick to our day jobs, and I’ll keep throwing nonsense shit up on here.

New year, new plan: stop being lazy assholes and post some podcasts. Resolution, kept. We’re coming out of the gate running with this one by some dude from Belgium who took a break from making world famous chocolate to put together this mix for us. Red D, don’t know much about him, but Kevin Reynolds says that he’s good and Resident Advisor had him do their podcast recently so I guess he’s not a total schmuck.

We’ve got a brand new river front villa. After the police raided our now ironically named “Victory Lap” two year anniversary, we decided it was time to bust out of that asbestos, mouse filled piece of shit and upgrade ourselves to a prime slice of real estate right across the street from Chene Park. I won’t publish the exact address because, well, it’s top secret right now, and we don’t want your drunk ass showing up at 4am thinking that we’re neighbors with a gas bar again, because we’re not. Thank fucking god that chapter is closed. The wet house was fun, but when you work & basically live in it, well the fun ends and the thoughts of offing yourself take hold.

Red D I think is part of FCL which is a group I’ve been a fan of since I first heard the track “Let’s Go”. Download it on your favorite torrent tracker or buy it or something it’s sweet. I couldn’t quite finger the genre, so I made up my own and I call it rollerblade house. Think dayglo nylon jackets, those ugly as fuck neon sunglasses your baseball coach wore, and of course, roller blades. It’s pretty awesome. Speaking of our 2 year anniversary party (I can’t believe we are only 2 years old. we feel 60), we are bringing in our favorite whippersnappers from Brooklyn, Vietcong Disco. We brought out VD (pun intended) last winter for the Wet Dream party and many believe that may have been our most bonkers party to date. And that’s saying a lot.

Vietcong Disco is about 3-8 dudes from Brooklyn that rented a van and fucking drove out to Detroit in the middle of the worst snowstorm of the year to play a party for 2 weirdos that they never met. We told them “We promise you a really good time, and you can just sleep at our place. It will be fun, trust us.” Sounds pretty fucking creepy if you ask me. I don’t think I would randomly drive to Detroit to go play disco at an undisclosed location and then sleep over and some strange dudes house. I think these guys might be closet cases. Actually who am I kidding, i’ve done that many times.

Anyhoo, the leader of the pack is Eddie Mars. VD just got their shit together this past year and released some stellar vinyl. Eddie’s cut “future” sounds like an Italo masturbating session. But the really sleazy kind where your in a corner watching other people fuck while doing it. In little Italy at the height of the 80′s cocaine fueled disco parties. Its a good one.

I can’t believe this thing is still going. Seriously, I guess that’s a general thought I’ve had throughout this whole experience. We’re coming up quick on our two-year anniversary of when this whole shit fest started. God knows where we’ll be in another two years, I took out an insurance policy on Abbott and I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting paid off on that one any day now. Oh yeah, the podcast. So I’ve been after this one for a while. It’s by these swedes called “Drop Out Orchestra”. I caught a podcast by them on the Louche podcast a long time ago (’09?) and was instantly hooked. These guys really need to get brought over to the states (I’ve tried, US promoters are great at wasting good opportunities) & sent around like a hooker on Cass. So basically it’s two guys (no cups) and they play a live set with the other guy playing bass guitar. That’s about all I know about them and I got bored writing that so I assume you got bored reading that.

They did stuff with our favorite up-and-coming dickbag Disco Munga. Sup Lou.

Well folks here we are at the GSHC Podcast #32. Hard to believe that it hasn’t even been a year and we are already at that number. You should totally blow us next time you see us.

#32 comes from a fellow that goes under the alias CTRL_ALT_DLT, a name that gets misspelled almost every single time someone writes it. I’m sure I probably have it wrong, sorry Chris.

Chris is from Seattle via Detroit. He’s been out in Seattle for a while though. Somewhere between 1 and 10 years, I forget. Chris is 1 half (or is it 3rd?, I cant keep up) of the Sweatbox crew out there, and throw some pretty amazing parties for all the dirty ass hippies out in the Northwest. It’s not like his parties are filled with hairy, nasty, dreadlocked, smelly people wearing stupid long skirts and usually seen playing with devil sticks or hacky sacks or some other stupid hippie shit. That’s just my kinda general consensus of most of the North West.

Chris and his crew were the first people to bring out Spleece and myself for a Guys On Drugs set in some fucked up sports bar in the middle of an Industrial area in the city. Was a good time. Chris usually double dips in between techno and house in his sets, and I think you will all dig this set. Chris also likes to eat acid and frolicing through the forest picking fresh psychocybin mushrooms for him and his friends.  Check him out playing all over the city for this years Decibel Festival and give him a high five and buy the poor fuck a beer.

Ok, I don’t know much about this guy so I’m just going to start firing off random shit I know via Facebook updates I get in my newsfeed ever so frequently. I think I first officially met him up in someones loft at like 6am last September right after I got out of doing 2 months in jail so needless to say I was on a little “welcome back” bender. I think I kind of freaked him out a little bit because I was excited to meet him, as I had seen him out a few times and really liked his style and yeah pretty much just scared the shit out of him. Sorry dude, this probably all scared you a little too. Grow a pair.

He’s a west coast transplant to Detroit who came over here to do something for Transmat Planet E. I don’t really know they’re all old dudes they don’t talk to the young whipper snappers like us because we haven’t earned our stripes. Well, basically Monty had enough of answering to someone else, and adhering to the same attitude I’ve got, if you don’t see what you want to see in whatever industry you’re involved in, just make it up yourself. That’s what he’s done in creating his label “Black Catalogue”. Go buy his records.

Monty is a really good dude. He’s got a good read on the music industry and this following of people that I’ve never seen before. Seriously, he hosted an event here at the Wet House, our first official actually planned out event (he obviously did all the planning because nothing we do is planned ever). Dude tore the place down. Literally, we had to put up a tent over the DJ booth because he was shaking the ceiling loose. His fans are pretty awesome too, a lot of people I haven’t really seen out in Detroit. Our typical party attendee is a bunch of drunk shit bags, we love all you shit bags, we’re shit bags ourselves, but Monty’s crew made me feel so poor. Nice shoes guys, they probably cost more than we pay rent in a month. I guess that’s what having a “real” job gets you, or giving a fuck what you look like or something. It was cool to see them getting down with our usual shit bags though, this little sanctuary we’ve built is going to bridge the gap between drunk shit bags and fancy italian leather shoe wearing shit bags. HANDS ACROSS AMERICA, shit bags.

We hope your summer is going swell. I haven’t really done shit this summer other then ride my bike around Detroit looking like a homeless person (i’ve been mistaken before), waking up in some strange places with some strange people, rubbing ice on my balls to try and stay cool, being a complete loser asshole and quitting my day job, and being a complete loser asshole in general. It’s been a great summer so far.

For our 30th podcast anniversary, we bring you one of our good buddies, fellow drunk, & bearded picaroon Josh Dahlberg. Josh is a man that is desired by women, men, & dogs. I wish I still had the recording of a few years back at the Visionquest party during the big festival here in Detroit. I was on a head full of acid, and was 110%  sure that Josh gave his black lab Eddie dog aids. I was so sure in fact, that I had my friend Lyndsay call information to ask the operator if dogs can get aids from humans. If i remember correctly the answer was a swift “no”, but seriously what the fuck does a telephone operator know about dog aids?

Anyway, Josh really doesn’t have aids, and as far as I know doesn’t really fuck his dog, but he does make some incredible music. Josh is half owner (the other owner being the ultra fab Drew Pompa) of Blank Artists. Blank Artists is collection of amazing Detroit talent and were the first people to give me a record deal. I’ve made about $6,301,380 in digital sales thanks to these guys. They paid for my Ferrari and 8 out of my 9 gold chains. Do yourself a favor and go check out their website and support these guys. They work super hard to make a platform for emerging artists in the city and beyond, and they have stuck it out though thick and thin. If you see Josh out somewhere grab his balls and tell him you know about his dog fucking. And if you don’t think you can be seduced by him, just look at the way this guy fucking eats a sandwich for christ sake.

OH MY FUCKING GOD. IT IS SO FUCKING HOT. Seriously you guys. All you assholes with your central air conditioning, whatever it may be, fuck, these past couple weeks have just been total hell. Enough bitching. But seriously, so fucking hot.

So what’s up guys. It’s been a while. I didn’t do anything last week because my neighbors internet connection has been off, so I’ve been without internet. I was going all “off the grid” with it, using only my phone, but I finally realized that you people need me and rely on me to provide you with music so I spent all afternoon jailbreaking my phone and turning it in to a wireless hot spot. FUCKING TECHNOLOGY WHAT?

So last night was pretty out of control. Threw a party, got raided by the cops, they let everyone go, and obviously we turned back around and just started the party back up. Ended up with like 100 people up there, about 4x as many as we had before the cops came. Good work DPD.

Todays podcast is by some guy from Europe. Memo Insua. He sent me this huge press kit that I haven’t even looked at to be completely honest with you so I’m just going to wing it. I guess he doesn’t really know how this works, so he’ll figure it out eventually. Thanks for the press kit!

This mix is fucking awesome. I came up on this guy listening to someone else’s podcast. I emailed him immediately and have been talking to him for a little while to get him to send me something. Which he did, like 3 weeks ago, and of course it took my ass another week just to get it up.

We’re taking this whole little 2 year experiment to a whole new level. Details are going to emerge shortly but look for the official “soft launch” of the new building pretty soon. We’ll be using it as our HQ for all operations in the future so no more of the “TBA LOCATION ANNOUNCED SOON” bullshit. It’s all going to be at the Gary Springs Hunting Lodge, all day, every day. Holy heat wave. Seriously I am starting to forget the last time I wasn’t completely sweating my balls off. I live in a giant loft that is impossible to air condition, and the 1-foot-thick brick walls turn the place in to a literal brick oven once it heats up. Ok, enough of my adventures through the Detroit-meets-Sahara saga of 2011 and on to the next podcast.

This guy is Naveen G. Who is Naveen G you may ask? Naveen G is some dude who we put on the Shit Show Deuce line-up I’m almost positive less than 24 hours before his set time. I say “some dude” because that’s literally who he was to us, some dude. With that kind of setup, you have to believe we had pretty high expectations. He was originally supposed to play upstairs as part of the pretend Listed upstairs part of the event (that one was our fault, woops) but realized that due to a flight we had to reschedule his set for a much earlier morning slot. He rolled up 20 deep with a bunch of people I didn’t know and lit a fire under our ass trying to get some CD-J’s set up. I had instant respect for this guy, he came in, told us to get the fuck in line and get his shit set up and wasn’t going to give us any slack. I guess he doesn’t really know us. Most people give us wayyyyy too much slack, so it was refreshing to have someone come in and make something happen in a timely manner. We have a habit of “taking care of it later…” which sometimes ends up being never. If it’s meant to be, it will be, or someone will say get to it assholes.

Not like it was a ridiculous demand for the DJ to be set up with the proper gear we had already discussed having for him, it was just kind of the peak of the Shit Show, like when Shit was literally hitting the fan, in mostly good ways, but getting things done was a little difficult. You try carrying CD-J’s through a crowd of zombied out ravers at 10am on Monday of festival. Aint easy.

Naveen caught us all off guard. Ammora over at listed was really talking him up a lot to me, but that’s also kind of what she gets paid to do so typically I’ll wait until their set to pass final judgment. Naveen did what couldn’t really be pulled off last year, he kept people inside. TV Bar’s patio is quickly becoming the underground Hart Plaza, and it seems like once the sun comes up at the all-night events, everyone is glued outside and the inside artists get the shaft. Naveen really set up that inside room for an amazing day of music, and had a shit ton of people, seriously, I felt bad putting him in that slot, but in discussing with Ammora she said he’ll take care of it. He did.

Afterwards he came up and thanked us for letting him get down like that, this guy is just so god damn polite. That’s a message to you artists, thank us, then we’ll post some nice things about you on the internet. Otherwise we’ll call you sellout assholes. And holy shit, this set wasn’t even recorded at Shit Show, this guy sat down and pieced back together his set from Shit Show, he’s down for the cause.

Well it’s been a pretty long ass week for us. We capped off a week of blowing off responsibility (Secrets and I were given a week long reprieve from our “other” job) with a celebration of the birthday of the greatest country to ever exist ever. You probably saw our 24-hour tribute. We love America that much that we’re willing to totally make our website look like the living room of some trailer park patriot. That’s the true American way.

The podcast was also unexpectedly suspended a week, but I guess we’ve made up for that already by giving you like 10 days straight of mixes last month, so we had a little wiggle room. Well, it’s back now. This next podcast is brought to you by local Detroit DJ Craig Hejka. I don’t know why this guy isn’t booked more often because this mix is great. I mean duh we put it up on our podacst and this shit is like the most sought after podcast in the past few months, so we’re not just filling it with bullshit. Obviously.

This podcast got me excited because it reminded me that Detroit still has a little community of solid DJ’s and they’ve really become the backbone of what we do. All the artists who are ditching Detroit and going overseas to play out, some of them have half the talent some of these local guys do, they’re just much better at whoring themselves out. No offense, but you’re whores. It’s ok, some people like whores, mainstream music is a huge fan of whores, we just try to keep it classy (HAHAHAHAHA).

Craig is a pretty quiet dude from what I can tell, and doesn’t really push his music on anyone, well dude it’s time you fucking start being a whore because this is some really solid stuff. He seemed a little surprised when Matt and I got hold of the mix he threw up on Facebook and immediately asked him if we could feature it. It’s kind of what we’ve always prided ourselves on, finding what’s next, or something that’s a little bit forward thinking, you know, not just what you have heard 50 times this year. I’ll hedge a bet that you haven’t really listened to a mix like this yet this summer, but you will be balls deep in them next summer. We’ll give you one to get you started this year.

We’ve got a big bunch of announcements in store, we’re doing an event at New Center Park on Sunday July 31 with Droog, Inxec & friends. We’ll be putting out more information as the weeks roll by. We successfully saved Electric Forest from a rabies infestation (http://electricforestnews.com) and are going to be heading up the EXPO SEMINAR hosted by RABIES 2011.org. Anyway, listen to the mix. A guitar, seriously. This guy shows up with a god damn guitar. At first I didn’t know what to think. Matt told me he was going to do this, I was thinking we booked some guy who was going to bang out Tom Petty covers all afternoon (which I would have been alright with at that point). But no, he opens up his live set like any other, and out of nowhere hops on the guitar and jams the fuck out to his set.

Dead Seal was one of Matt’s bookings, and honestly I had some reservations about Matt’s bookings mostly because I hadn’t heard of most of them. Every single one of them absolutely tore the place up, and Dead Seal really is on the whole tip of “what’s next” in this music scene.

When Derrick sent me this a month and a half ago, I accidentally clicked on some shitty minimal techno bleep bloop set and thought he totally sucked. Then I saw him at Shit Show and came home to realize my mistake. I’ve been playing this mix nonstop since.

I asked Dead Seal if had any words to share with you, he said “I am very hard on my self and expect more from my music than the norm. I decided in my live sets, why not complicate things with any instrument I can. Usually I do a set with a clarinet, guitar, bass, keys, vocals, and shakers.” We chatted for a bit longer about booze and politics and he told me that he’s happy his love for music has finally turned in to what has become a full-time job. Funny, I’ve been telling people the same story about myself, except my full-time job is running a fake hunting club.

He’s basically starting his own record store with upcoming album releases on Canuck label No.19 Music, another album on My Favorite Robot with remixes by Sid Le Rock, Adultnapper, and Droog. Two more albums are on the way on Bang the Box with remixes by Lance Desardi and Brett Johnson.

It’s 3am, do you know where Secrets is? Well, it’s Thursday (now Friday) night, so odds are he’s shit canned, possibly in bed with your girlfriend, but don’t worry because he’s way too drunk to fuck her and will be until at least Saturday morning. So apparently this self-proclaimed shitbag has a soft side.

That’s where we’re going with this mix tonight. I shit you not, this is probably one of my favorite all time mixes, ever, it’s just every shitty movie soundtrack, every cheesy montage from that horrible romantic flick your girlfriend made you suffer through, that prom slow dance you sat in the corner and cried through, truly the chronicle of cheesy soft rock/love songs spanning 4 decades.

I don’t know where this came from, Secrets doesn’t have a soft side, perhaps his right nostril on Sunday morning is a little tender but that’s about the only soft spot you’re going to come up on. Funny story, the first track in this mix, I listened to it while looking through his entire collection of tagged Facebook photos until I found that gem, I felt like I was watching a photo montage at his funeral or something.

Another week, another podcast. Sorry for my lack of enthusiasm there, this deserves a lot more excitement but I just woke up, no coffee, out of adderall, hang on. Ok here we go HOLY FUCK ANOTHER PODCAST FUCK YEAH!! That’s a lot better

#23 is a nice little ditty put together by our newest friend Inxec. You might not see his name on the flyer for Shit Show, but trust me, his tall ass was there. Seriously, tall as hell. I’m really short if you don’t know me personally, so tall people kind of freak me out sometimes, and that was my first impression of Inxec, man this guy is tall. He’s not the intimidating meat head tall type though, skinny tall guy so I could probably still take him in a fight, so I wasn’t too afraid of him.

He closed out Shit Show for us, and man did this guy tear it apart. Originally we had him closing the inside, while Cesare vs Disorder was set to close the outside. We made a little change on the fly after talking for a minute and put both of these guys outside, tagging together as a nice little surprise for everyone (ourselves included). They played probably one of my favorite sets of the entire weekend from what I can remember (you’ll remember from my previous post that I was a little “well-done” if you will).

Again I don’t really know Inxec personally but from what I can gather he is what one could refer to as a “down ass dude”, pretty sure he’s from down under too. I’m a stupid American though so all their accents sounds the same so for all I know he could be from the UK, South Africa, New Zealand or any number of countries that have similar sounding accents, it sounded pretty cool though.

I first discovered Inxec when I downloaded a bootleg of his album off some torrent site (sorry dude, I still ended up paying you though so we’re square) and have had bringing him out in the back of my mind for a while. I finally was offered the opportunity and jumped all over that shit obviously.

Inxec has already said put me down for Shit Show 3, and if we survive another year I think we’re going to take him up on that request. This set is the best mix I have heard in a little while, I’m really impressed by this dude and we’re in talks right now to try and bring him back before the end of the summer so keep your eyes peeled. I’m done writing just listen to this. Now. Seriously.

We’re also working on something really fucking special and if it all works out you’ll probably shit your pants (because we pretty much already have just at the notion that this might work out) so pay attention.

Back to reality, kind of. Shit Show Deux was, a complete Shit Show. Final head count was +1500 (we stopped charging/giving out bracelets around 6) we aren’t totally sure of the final head count but there were a ton of you retards and it was pretty awesome.

Tonights podcast is a set recorded in the final hours of the event. 2 guys from DC (I think, I might have made that up) who were brought on the event by Listed Bookings. These two gentlemen fit in perfectly with the lead up to an unexpected but incredible closing set by Cesare vs Disorder & Inxec. I don’t really know much about these guys but they about shit their pants when they saw our K-Hole shirt (who doesn’t) and were so god damn excited to play, it was awesome.

I don’t have much else on these guys, I could run a background check but they seemed pretty clean. I had finally given up on caring at that point and just finished polishing off a handle of the worlds shittiest vodka with Death on the Balcony so the details are a bit foggy. I literally felt like I was going to die and even told someone that I was trying to kill myself with vodka, which I clearly failed at. Better luck next time. 24-hours straight at TV bar, it was a little much, but excess is excellent in some cases. I knocked at least 3 years off my life last week.

In house news, we’ve got a lot of shit in store for you this summer. We’re still crusading against dubstep, putting together stupid shows that you can’t quite understand, and bringing you the true warlocks of INTELLIGENT DANCE MUSIC [sarcasm] (I hate the whole “IDM” label). We’re pushing the boundaries of unintelligent, unadulterated, shit your pants piss your bed drunk ass hootenanys.

We’ll be making announcements soon on upcoming events and have a few plans to bring the Shit Show on the road, coming to ruin a city near you! Abbott (Secrets) is making a few appearances around the country so try and meet up with him and give him a key bump and a fist pump, he’ll appreciate it.

Oh hey. Time for the next one, yeah we’re seriously doing this every day until Shit Show. Next up is a set by 1/2 of Ataxia and total heart throb Ted Krisko. So Ted and I went to Miami this year (via his Facebook updates, I was stuck back in Detroit) but Facebook said we had a really good time. Ted is one of the hardest working DJ’s in the city, formerly a resident artist on a local cutting edge innovative label/promotions group and now a free agent.

I won’t even try and list all the events he’s playing this weekend but he’s going to be playing alongside his partner Eric Ricker for a live set as Ataxia at our event and later on at the festival.

Ted and I go way back, way way back, like a year or something. I don’t remember exactly how we met but because of affiliations I was a little weary of associating with him. Fast forward a few months and I find myself shit canned eating hommous off a wrench in his kitchen. Beer will make everyone your best friend apparently, and the toolbox the silverware drawer. Ted has always impressed me with his willingness to listen to music that others have to bring to him, if someone tries to play me music I’m usually just thinking about how to get them to stop playing that music so I can play my own, but he’s always willing to give something a listen and I think that gives him an edge over most.

Take the mix he submitted to us as a testament to that. He’s been telling me forever that he was going to throw together a mix “just for us” for a while now. I have to admit that I had my reservations just based on what I have heard him play in the past but he really impressed me with this one. Matt and I sat down in his studio 2 days ago and he brought us through the mix really quick and as soon as we left the first thing I said to Matt was damn, that was pretty good.

He put together a great mix, a lot more up beat than the creepy dark techno I’ve heard him bang out at the works while some creepy dude stares at my junk so I have to say this mix put me in a much better mood than I had expected.

The one burning question that’s always been on my mind is how does he get that fucking beard to be so fucking sharp. Seriously sometimes it looks like that thing is painted on his face. If you know me, I’ve always got a big bunch of scruff engulfing my face so standing next to him makes me feel like a hobo. Seriously, whoever taught this guy how to trim that beard deserves a fucking medal.

Ah, Big Bully aka Dawson Baca. The man. The legend.

Dawson hit me up about 4 years ago on MYSPACE. He was into the techno tracks i was producing at the time, and was interested in putting some stuff out on his label Mineral Musica. After about a year or two of me fucking around and just basically being a lazy motherfucker, I gave him a track called Put My Love In Your Mouth. He got [a]pendics shuffle to do a remix, and we did a Guys On Drugs remix. I don’t remember exactly what happened, but it was never released. I think it had something to do with the fact that I lost a bunch of money at the dog tracks earlier that week, and was in total “I give up” mode. I had to hawk my laptop and midi controllers to pay off this scary Russian dude named Vlad that promised me he would  kill my dog, and  kidnap my mother if I didnt pay up.

ANYWAY…

Dawson is one of the most underrated and underappreciated figures in techno. This fucking guy has put shit out on Mo’s Ferry and Thema with Mikael Stavostrand, Kindisch with Jay Haze, Simple Records and Culprit with Adultnapper, and other face chewing sounds on Tic Tac Toe, Tuning Spork, and his own Mineral Musica.

Not only does he produce some of the most screwed up, rapey techno around, but he also does vocals on a ton of shit. The vocal work he does is really creepy. You people need to go buy his music, do a bunch of K, and then fuck your girlfriend/boyfriend in a disastrous tantric edge play love making session that would make Kenneth Anger uncomfortable. Its what Dawson would want.

We had him as a guest at last years Shit Show and I think it was during his set that someone actually pissed themself on the dance floor. seriously. We also later on found that some einstein shit his pants and left a pair of crap plastered underwear in the mens bathroom. Good stuff.

Its not just her stunning looks, she fucking bangs the shit proper. And let me tell you, this is one wild bitch. She can probably out drink your dad in whiskey alone, and can stay up longer then meth head that just won the lottery. Shes put out some records under Lick My Deck, Einmaleins Musik, and more. She has worked with Mikael Stavostrand, Bruno Pronsato, Italoboyz, and Apendics Shuffle to name a few.

So I think it was like 5 years ago (give or take 1-2 years) that I met this fine specimen of a woman. If I remember right, it was over some sort of a shady drug deal. I instantly liked her. Flash forward to 1-2 years INTO THE FUTURE. I was living in NYC at the time and she was coming in to visit. I was currently in somewhat of a relationship with this super young girl who was moving to NYC from Detroit, so I was kinda waiting around for her. When I found out Katerina (her slave name) was coming in to town to stay with me,  I quickly called back to Detroit to tell my girlfriend that she needed to postpone the move for a few extra days. It was an emergency, and it would not be safe for her I told her. I then proceeded to say how I couldn’t explain myself and that she just had to trust me. What an asshole.

Anyway, Katy (her spirit animal name) came out and stayed with me for a few days, and if I remember correctly it was her birthday and we totally got fucking wasted for 3 days straight.

She was supposed to play Shit Show last year, but she lost her passport right before her trip. A sign of a true party animal. We’re really happy to get to try it again this year, she promises she wont lose it this time. We shall see. Her style can be best described as some really good weird house shit, and she has a voice that would give even the oldest man a boner.

Well, you’re still here and didn’t ascend to heaven so I guess we’re in hell now. Time for #3. This time we’re bringing you a mix recorded live at our event last year called “Free Massage”. The mix is done by Soren, what can I say about this guy. What can’t I say about this guy?

Free Massage was a conceptual event (not unlike the LARP’ing event) that was met with medium success. We had a free masseuse on site with a massage table but she packed up and left after about an hour because she kept getting asked for handjobs. Some people can’t hang.

Soren is a really interesting specimen. I don’t remember when I met him but I hadn’t known him long and found myself living with him. For one week. He couldn’t hang. I knew the living arrangement wouldn’t last when I walked in the kitchen at around 4am to find him making “the best lentils ever omg!!” completely shit canned and needless to say the things tasted like shit. Soren is apparently a good cook, someone said something about him cooking with dandelions. I’m not sure how the fuck that works but he’s referenced his “giggle cream” more than on one occasion so maybe that’s his secret sauce. I don’t even want to know.

Last year he played Shit Show, we forgot about him and didn’t even give him a timeslot. He was a trooper and played where we got him in, and I don’t know how we forgot to place him because this kid always tears the house down. He is probably the hardest working DJ I have met in a long time and will not settle for just “coasting” through. He’s always hunting down the latest tracks, fine-tuning his abilities, and it definitely shows. He’s also a fashion designer. Seriously. He wore a shirt dress to one of his gigs at the end of September sporting that puffy paint you used to use in art class in elementary school. His line of clothes is called “Glitter Critter”.

This guy is a real hoot. He’s a resident for Detroit promotion power house “Dead Tiger” where I’d say he fits perfectly. Soren can cater his sets to whatever kind of opening set he needs to perform. He adapts his sound to best suit a given event and he pulled out all the stops for this one, doing a review of seminal disco classics and some new (at the time) cuts that I hadn’t even heard before. I must have ran up to the booth 5 times with that “holy shit what track is that” look on my face and tried trainspotting.

He doesn’t have a Facebook. That’s so fucking hard core these days. Seriously.

So we’re running with a new concept. Realizing that this year is the first year that people are comfortable with streaming media on a level unseen any years past. So we’re going to go over the top as per usual and post a podcast every day leading up to shit show. We might not get them up the weekend of DEMF but that’s probably because we’ll be deep in to our k-holes.

The first podcast of the week was mixed exclusively for us by past guest and all around awesome dude Darshan Jesrani. He’s a past guest, friend, acquaintance and can drink you under the table and polish off your drink. We brought him out last July to play and it was literally a sweat box. 4th floor loft balls deep in a summer heat wave, Darshan absolutely tore the place apart and I shit you not, there was sweat on the windows, on the walls, on the cars parked downstairs, babies were made hearts were broken and hangovers acquired.

Funny story about all that (we can laugh about it now). I’m such a jackass that I booked him a flight home at 9am, to the dismay of his booking agent. I told her to get bent and had no idea why she was so bent out of shape that I booked him the early flight. I dropped Darshan off at his hotel, went back to my place, took a “nap” and woke up to like 42 missed calls and finally got back to him finding out that he had hailed a cab and made it to the airport in time, against my attempts at making him a permanent resident of Detroit.

Darshan has an incredible taste in music and his record collection (he brought like 1 t shirt and 3 record bags) is something that would make you shit in your pants. Quite literally. Did I mention he’s an all around awesome dude too? I was a little starstruck meeting him. He is one half of Metro Area, world famous for their special breed of disco/house/boogie/techno whatever you want to call it, awesome. He’s humble as shit, extremely intelligent, and loves gyros. Maybe I should date him or something, yeah I am totally gay for you Darshan can’t wait to see you next week!

Any way, Morgan Geist will be joining Darshan at Shit Show Deuce headlining our event as Metro Area. It’s one of the most anticipated sets of the weekend and if you miss it, well you might as well just kill yourself.

He has always impressed me with his track selection whenever I see him play out. Ernie kind of did a version of what we do for a couple of summers running a series of parties called “Tour Detroit”.

Ernie won our vote once he hooked us up with a PBR sponsorship for the Girlfriend Experience. Free beer is the key to our hearts. He’s just started a weekly event called “The Lodge” at the Shelter on Friday nights that you should definitely go check out. $5 and a rotating list of DJ’s mostly local talent but hand selected and some of the best the city has to offer. Personally it’s cool for me to be in essence working with Ernie now. He’s a few years ahead of the game than I am and I always looked to him for guidance be it musically, or when we started this little shit parade GSHC. Dude has a great ear for good music, great skills on the decks, and he’s really god damn nice. Seriously like girls you could take him home to your mom and stuff, I wouldn’t suggest trying that with the rest of us. But Ernie, god what a sweetheart. Shield Your Eyes is a guy named Dan from Chicago. He has a ton of edits, original work, and a few different mixes up on his page. He even goes so far as to explain to the listener the intricate details of what type of work he’s done to a given track. What a nice fuckin guy. Seriously. DJ Secrets said it sounded a little too dancey or commercial or something but what does he know, probably a lot more than me to be honest, you be the judge. If it’s too dancey or commercial sounding then please, by all means, go find the most underground track you can think of, play it twice then re-edit it, submit it to a few dj’s, have them remix it. Then, if you really want to finish it off right and truly seal the deal, take that remixed re-edited super underground cut and shove it right up your ass. This shit is good. Enjoy!

GSHCPOD008 is a disco burner put together by GSHC co-founder & resident dj Secrets (Matt Abbott). One fateful day in 2008 I ended up driving down to Miami with this guy in a mini van. I didn’t talk to him again for another year after that. Needed a break apparently.

It’s been a journey to say the least. Abbott is an extremely talented DJ/Producer/Drug Consumer/Womanizer and always a source of entertainment. I am not sure where the fuck he channels his ideas from but it’s not like anything you’ve seen or heard before. I have sort of become the one person who can interpret his ideas in to something that the normal brain is capable of handling, a translator of sorts.

This podcast is loaded with classic disco cuts, some house tracks, his own productions, and a little bit of magic. Check him out next this Friday at Oslo for his monthly series called “depressing disco”.

GSHCPOD007 is a hip hop mixtape by the pocket sized Parisian wolf+lamb staple Le Loup, the wolf. This guy is awesome. I first caught his tracks released by Wolf+Lamb back in the summer of 2009 living in satans armpit in Detroit’s Eastern Market.

Early last May after the 400th time I played Leo’s edit of Erotic City (Prince) I decided I had nothing to lose and shot him a message on Facebook. You see, we were busy planning our festival after party (Shit Show) and I thought he’d be a healthy addition to the lineup. I think my message was something along the lines of: “Hey dude, dig your tracks, get a flight to Detroit for DEMF and you can crash here, I’ll take care of the rest”. A week later I had an email from his agent with his flight itinerary. We put him on before Soul Clap and he absolutely tore the place a new asshole.

The thing about Leo that you don’t see in most artists is his true love and devotion to music. All he wanted to do was go to the record store in Detroit, when I finally got him out to Detroit Threads, holy shit, literally we were there for hours while he just dug through crate after crate of classic Detroit music. His appreciation for anything and everything Detroit was pretty awesome, shit he even was fascinated by the Radioshack on Woodward. I didn’t realize how pint-sized dude really is until I picked him up at the airport, inconveniently enough the bicycle I got for him was 14 sizes too big and he could barely touch the pedals, but he rode out like a trooper.

He sent me this mix last week. I downloaded it and forgot about it for 2 days (sorry Leo). He sent me a text message asking me if I had listened to it yet and I lied to him and said yeah it was good thanks for shooting it over. Then I listened to it. 10 minutes in I sent him a text message along the lines of “holy fuck dude this is incredible I need this for our podcast now.” And here we are. This mix is really phenomenal, I don’t have a tracklist and I’m waiting on the Frenchy to respond to our interview questions but I can’t hold out any longer I have to post this thing. It’s a departure from what we typically play/post but you’ll understand why we are featuring it. This is probably my favorite mix we’ve featured so far. The track selection is phenomenal, plenty of nods to seminal Detroit hip hop artists, and this kid can mix better than Jesus on acid. This mix is tits.

For the sixth edition of our podcast, we are shifting gears a little bringing you GSHCPOD006 mixed by Adultnapper.

Fun story. I was in Brooklyn a few years back, and happened to catch Adultnapper at some creepy warehouse after hours event. He tore the place down. Everyone left sweating their balls off, ears ringing, and he was sick as a dog. I brought this show up with Francis recently talking to him, and he told me he was really glad I enjoyed his show. Because in his words, he had gotten food poisoning that day and spent time between tracks puking in a bucket behind the booth. No shit. Most other DJ’s would have called off the show, or played like dog shit, but he still managed to play an incredible set, to the sound of his own guts flying out of him. Shit, I once went to a show where one of the headliners had to sit out the event because he had “homework”. Seriously?

And his moniker, it took me a while to get, Adultnapper – think about it. Mind = blown.
