Natural gas shocker: Appalachian basin could hold 750 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves

Natural gas is the cleanest-burning and most efficient of all the fossil fuels. Because of the age of the Appalachian Mountains, 480-600 million years old, a wealth of fossil fuels, i.e. coal, oil and natural gas was created by Mother Nature ripe for the picking by this country and probably enough to keep the US fuel-independent for a very long time, some are estimating at least 100 years.

Book

Product Description
The large scale, practical uses of natural gas were initially introduced by innovators Joseph Pew and George Westinghouse for the steel and glass industries in Pittsburgh, and local gas companies evolved from individual wells to an interstate supply network acquired by Rockefeller’s Standard Oil interests. Natural gas is now a prevalent part of American markets and is filling the critical void left by a lack of new coal, oil, and nuclear power facilities. This vital American enterprise began in the Appalachian states as an accidental and underestimated by-product of the oil rush of 1859.
This book explores the evolution and significance of the natural gas industry. Early chapters discuss the first natural gas discoveries in the 1800s, the ways in which entrepreneurs used the fuel, the consequent displacement of the manufactured gas industry, and the expansion of the Appalachian natural gas network—largely initiated by Standard Oil interests—into major regional markets. Later chapters discuss the growth of the Appalachian drilling industry, the first wooden and metal pipelines, the development of gas compressor engines, the pioneering of gas storage fields, and the genesis of gas marketing for lighting, heating, cooking, and industrial use. The concluding chapter describes the growth of the Appalachian natural gas industry since its major source of supply shifted from local wells in the 1950s to new discoveries of natural gas in the southwestern United States and the Gulf of Mexico. The conclusion also describes the impact of gas shortages and the government regulation that affects the industry to the present day.

About Kentucky Blue Collar Band:

Behind the hard driving, raw and rhythmic music of the band lies the heart and soul of the true Kentucky spirit. It is prevalent in songs that cut straight through to the average, everyday person. Although the band is true to their own no holds barred style, they have been heavily influenced by such greats as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker and Bob Seger with the story telling of Johnny Cash and the vocal growl of Bob Dylan.

After the release of their first CD, "Rockin' the Road" with HUBA Records, they garnered a good rotation of radio play. Their fans begged for more, so the band has just released their second album with producer Randy Hayes of J.D. Crow, Keith Whitley and Tanya Tucker fame to release their sophomore album, Long Hard Road.
The Kentucky Blue Collar Band formed in the foothills of Eastern Kentucky in early 2004 and have found a way to stay true to the music by returning to the all important story line while still maintaining the musical quality of today's popular songs. The band's stage show is energetic and action packed from start to finish and matched by none. Deidra Hall of 92.9 the Bear said, "Their show should not be missed."

The band has now been playing Southern Rock and Rockabilly music together for over 5 years while bringing many different influences and styles to their sound to create the perfect blend - a little Blues, a little Rock and a Southern Country Boy attitude round out the sound and dynamics of the Kentucky Blue Collar Band.

Two large, motion graphics presentations outline the major battles of the Civil War before and after the Battle of Gettysburg.

Installed in two strategic locations inside the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum, these cinematic presentations provide context to the conflicts that preceded and followed the three days of battle at Gettysburg. The two five-minute movies map each army’s movements, victories, and losses from 1861 to 1865. Archival images of battles, landscapes, and notable persons are woven together with animated military infographics and voiceover narration to vividly depict the battle strategies and troop movements along a timeline of the war.

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park

The Park focuses on Lincoln’s life in Kentucky. The Birthplace Unit demonstrates Lincoln's humble beginnings with a symbolic birth cabin enshrined within a neo-classic Memorial Building. The Boyhood Home Unit at Knob Creek Farm was home to Lincoln during his formative years. Events in Kentucky helped mold a young boy into the man who became the nation’s sixteenth President.

Lincoln's Birthplace Unit

The Birthplace Unit features 116 acres of Thomas Lincoln's Sinking Spring Farm. An early 19th century Kentucky cabin symbolizes the one in which Abraham was born. The cabin is enshrined inside the Memorial Building at the site of his birth. The Unit also includes the Sinking Spring, site of the Boundary Oak tree and other reminders of the nation's 16th President's beginnings.

“My earliest recollection is of the Knob Creek place.” So wrote Abraham Lincoln on June 4, 1860 to Samuel Haycraft, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Haycraft had invited the future President to visit his childhood home in Kentucky. The Lincoln family lived on 30 acres of the 228 acre Knob Creek Farm from the time Abraham was two and a half until he was almost eight years old. Here he learned to talk and soon grew big enough to run errands such as carrying water, and gathering wood for the fires. Abraham recalled in later years numerous memories of his childhood here; a stone house he had passed while taking corn to Hodgen’s Mill; a certain big tree that had attracted his boyish fancy; the old homestead; the clear stream where he fished, and the surrounding hills where he picked berries were all impressed on his mind.

He could remember how he stayed by his mother’s side and watched her face while listening to her read the Bible. Lincoln could also remember the baby brother who was born and died on the Knob Creek Farm.

He remembered one occasion when he and his sister Sarah had planted the garden; Abraham said he planted pumpkin seeds in every other hill and every other row while Sarah and others planted the corn. The following night a big rain in the hills sent water rushing into the creek, the creek flooded the fields and washed away their garden.

It was also at Knob Creek that Abraham first saw African - Americans being taken south along the Louisville - Nashville Turnpike, part of the old Cumberland Road, to be sold as slaves.

Lincoln once wrote that while living on Knob Creek he and his sister, Sarah, were sent for short periods to an A, B, C school – the first kept by Zachariah Riney, and the second by Caleb Hazel. These were subscription schools and lasted only a few months. Free schools did not come to Kentucky until the 1830’s.

Likewise, he never forgot the time he fell in the swollen Knob Creek while playing on a foot log near his home. Had it not been for Austin Gollaher, a friend and school mate, Abraham would probably have drowned. Austin, with a keen sense of pioneer knowledge, grabbed a long tree limb from the bank and held it out like a strong arm to the struggling Lincoln. Abraham spoke of the incident after he became President.

The family left Knob Creek and Kentucky in 1816 moving to Spencer County, Indiana.

Richard Jett's Appalachian Troubadours is a group of young vocalists performing at various events, such as festivals, state parks, schools, health care centers, banquets and benefits with a range of music genres to include country, bluegrass, gospel, cajun, 50s & 60s and classic pop.

Established 1990 Richard Jett Productions

Richard Jett’s Appalachian Troubadours, a singing group of individuals, have been performing for over 20 years throughout Eastern and Central Kentucky. The Appalachian Troubadours are a wholesome Christian-based group performing at shows centered on morally acceptable themes, promoting family values, and music history education. Performances consist of a variety of music genres to include country, bluegrass, gospel, and 50/60’s. Members perform with CD tracks, provide background vocals, and at times use musical instruments as part of their performance. The Appalachian Troubadours perform through out the state of Kentucky at contracted state parks, festivals, benefits, and numerous other events through out the state. Performances consist of primarily individual solos, with occasional duets and group songs.

New recruits will be chosen based on vocal talent, showmanship, poise, appearance, and entertainment value. Vocalists who can sing harmony are preferred, but this is not mandatory. Members are paid per performance based on venue. Member requirements are show attendance, learning suggested material in the group's 4 main music genres (country, bluegrass, gospel, and 50s/60s), assistance with equipment set-up/breakdown before and after shows, and conducting one's self in a positive manner. Auditions will be conducted by submitting a video or audio recording no longer than 5 minutes (audio recordings must include picture). The video or audio recording may feature one song or a medley of songs. If interested, you may attach video audition directly to EMAIL message, or please contact Rachel at 606-301-1047, JoAnna at 606-356-5257, or Jessica at 606-481-9705 for further details.
Nine years old and no longer alive. What did she do wrong? Just a little girl living her life as she saw it. Exploring the world and enjoying the things that inspire every little girl. From what i've read Christina was full of the things we all cherish about our lives. Love of animals, baseball and all the things little girls dream about for their future in America. Really i am not sure why, is anyone else? You see folks this old hillbilly has a little girl who is nine also, and i'm having a hard time figuring out the thought processes that are running the news media on this story of tragedy. Is it really about the politics of left and right? Maybe just maybe it is about a little girl who lost her life living the American dream. Being Christina Green on that fateful day. Just being Christina. Why can't we just remember her instead of gun control, how we can beat the other political party, Sarah Palin, and others. I prefer to remember Christina for the little girl she was. The rest of the talk should mean nothing to us. You see folks Sarah Palin or nobody else caused this idiot to start shooting. Jared Lee Loughner caused Christina to die. She is no longer here, except the memory we as Americans can have for this beautiful little girl. Please America, forget the politics, hatred, and absolute senselessness of figuring out who is to blame. Lets just remember Christina Taylor Green, who isn't here with us now, and learn from mistakes others make. I believe she would want it that way.

Christina as a dad i looked and looked for something in song to describe you. These videos are what i found for you hon. God bless Christina whom i never met, but a little girl who i think i know now.
