Job Purpose: A key functional role in the Ghana Business Unit Commercial team, the role will develop into the lead negotiator for all commercial work on the Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme (TEN) assets in the Deepwater Tano Block, the Jubilee Unit (Deepwater Tano and West Cape Three Points Blocks) and any new licenses. The role also has responsibility for the economic evaluations of the projects. The position requires a good team player and self starter to work closely with other members of the Commercial team and other functional groups such as subsurface, planning, projects and engineering, and legal.

The TEN project is scheduled to come on-line in mid-2016, and a number of key commercial agreements remain to be negotiated. Similarly, a number of key commercial agreements must be negotiated for the Jubilee project.

Responsibilities / Key Objectives: The Senior Commercial Negotiator will sit on the TEN Project Leadership Team, representing the commercial function in key decisions on the project. He or she will oversee all commercial aspects of the TEN project, helping to ensure it is delivered on budget, on time and with value protected.

This role will work on a wide range of commercial aspects of the Ghana assets including: developing business and commercial strategies, understanding and mitigating risk, leading negotiations for all required contracts such as gas sales agreements, decommissioning agreement, and funding arrangements, and developing relationship with other organisations involved in the energy sector in Ghana. Negotiations will primarily involve government entities and Joint Venture partners.

The role also has responsibility for ensuring that all economic analyses of the project are accurate and appropriately reflect the project assumptions. The incumbent will not generally have responsibility for completing economic analyses, but must have a detailed understanding of economic analysis.

The Senior Commercial Negotiator will also play a key part in ensuring that Commercial works well across the business. To this end the role will be engaged with other functional groups to build an understanding of the role of Commercial and how we can assist other departments. This role will also be a mentor to more junior staff on the team.

The role will have responsibility for supporting any new business development initiatives that arise in the Ghana Business Unit.

The Senior Commercial Negotiator will be coached and trained with a view to being considered for future promotion within the Ghana team. Where training is required, the individual will be given opportunities to enable them to progress their career.

Person Specification

Education & Experience: Degree in Engineering, Science or numerate degree ideally also with business/commercial studies (e.g. MBA).

8+ years experience in the upstream oil/gas sector with demonstrable economics, negotiations, commercial and overall business capability.

Excellent communications skills and well versed experience in dealing with diverse cultures
