We appreciate that times are hard and every effort is being in households up and down the country to save as many of those precious pennies as possible. However, we at Gas World Limited know that this is not necessarily the case and installing one of our new efficient boilers could be the way forward to save you heaps of cash.

We offer a no obligation visit to give you a quote and discuss your options so it really could not be any easier.

Our experts at Gas World take a look at how to deal with gas safety within your home or business. We look at the most common situations that could occur.

When dealing with your boiler or any gas pipes around your home, the biggest problem that can occur is when you smell stale gas. People often panic and make the wrong decision when this problem arises which escalates the situation. The best advice to give in this difficult situation is to stay as calm as possible and compose everyone around you. You don’t want a disaster to occur within your home as a result of panicking.

If you smell gas coming from anywhere in your house, you must first call 0800 111 999 which is the number for the National Gas Emergency Service. This service is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will cost you nothing to call. After calling the hotline, you will be asked a series of questions and they will try to help you with your situation. You could also contact the person who installed your gas pipes or boiler. At Gas World we have experts who can deal with these specific situations and are always willing to help.

The most crucial point when dealing with any gas related problem is to never create any type of flame. If a flame is created then it could cause a serious problem to yourself and anyone in the surrounding area. A flame could be triggered by an electrical spark from switches so don’t attempt to use any electrical sockets around your home.

When you speak to an advisor they will ask you a series of questions which you need to answer to establish the nature of the problem. These include:

• Your location

• Where the smell originated from

• How prominent it is

Make sure you give as much details as possible so the problem can be resolved quickly. Here at Gas World we take gas safety very seriously so if you have any questions, feel free to contact us today on: 0117 972 5340.

Are you planning on giving your bathroom a make over for 2013? This post details some top tips to help you choose the right bathroom design for your home.

As January segues into February and the weather still remains cold and gloomy, maybe it’s time to update your bathroom to create the ultimate refuge where you can pamper yourself in a deliciously hot bath. But whether you’re buzzing with inspiration or stumped for ideas choosing the perfect bathroom re-design for your home can be a daunting task, so we’ve put together a few ideas to help you out.

Clean & Comfortable

A bathroom needs to be practical, comfortable, clean and stylish. Although carpets in bathrooms were once considered luxurious, nowadays it can easily look worn and discoloured. In modern bathrooms use wood, tiles or marble to keep the room looking clean – tiles are a great way of subtly adding colours, patterns and texture to your bathroom.

Lighting

Lighting is particularly important in a bathroom, whether it’s just for seeing where you are going at night or for make-up and grooming purposes. You can create two levels of lighting in the bathroom for different purposes and times of day. You can have your normal light that acts like the brighter spotlight or you can have low level lighting around the mirrors so you can switch when you want to relax in the tub.

Bath

When choosing a bath choose a footer bath rather than a built-in one as these create extra floor space which in turn can make a small space appear bigger.

Basin

Another important element to your bathroom design is the basin, make your bathroom look more like an additional room and less like a hotel bathroom by housing the basin in marble or a speciality piece of furniture, this can also provide drawers, cupboards and storage.

Colours & Materials

The most typical colours for a bathroom are cream, white, black and blue. Black and white marble makes a lovely combination. Marble tiles, glass and mirrors are all good materials to use in a bathroom, mirrored doors are a great way to make a space look bigger and turn an en-suite into a continuation of the bedroom.

Here at Gas World we supply, design and install bathroom suites to help you create the perfect bathroom, so leave the stress and the worry for us! If you require a no obligation quotation or more information about our services call us today on: 0117 972 5340.

This latest news post from our experts details everything you need to know about the benefits of heat pumps in the home, to help you make your decision.

Heat pumps are extremely energy efficient, all in one heating and cooling system used in homes across the country. They extract thermal energy from the air, water or ground and pump it into your home, which can be used for both heating and cooling.

Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the outside air. This heat can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor heating systems or warm air convectors and hot water in your home. Here are some of the benefits of using an air source heat pump:

Advantages of Air Source Heat Pumps:

• Lower installations costs

• Systems can be installed outside or inside your property

• Unlike gas or oil boilers, heat pumps deliver heat at a much lower temperature over a longer period of time, making it more consistent.

• There is no need for messy or expensive boreholes

• Easier to retro fit as they are adaptable

• Good coefficient performance in the UK due to the high air temperatures we experience

Ground source heat pumps use pipes which are buried in the garden to extract heat from the ground. Again this heat can also be used to heat radiators, underfloor, water and warm air heating systems. Here are some of the benefits of ground source heat pumps:

Advantages of Ground Source Heat Pumps:

• Higher coefficient of performance

• Constant coefficient of performance

• Lower running costs

• Quieter system due to there being no fans

• Easier to locate in a property as they are generally smaller in size

Here at Gas World our team of plumbers in Bath supply both ground source and air source heat pumps for your home. We have many years of experience in providing both ground and air source heat pump systems, so we should always be your first choice.
Here at Gas World we understand how confusing it can be choosing the perfect fireplace for your home, so we've put together a list of top tips to help you.

The glowing flame from a fireplace has the ability to warm up any room. The fireplace often serves as the focal point of the room and the fireplace surround is an integral part of its overall appearance. Choosing the right surround material and style is essential if you want a fire place that you can enjoy all winter long. Here are a few things you need to take into consideration when investing in a new fireplace surround:

• Note the materials of the fireplaces that grab your attention and consider the maintenance and ease of cleaning for these different materials. Some can be more user-friendly than others.

• Consider the colour palette of the room; choose a colour surround that will complement the room – not clash with it. If you chose a wooden surround then note the stain colours of other wood furnishings in that room. Marble is a good option to compliment many colours.

• Note the overall style of your home, paying particular attention to the room that will showcase the new fireplace. Choose a fireplace surround that complements and suits the style of your home.

• Sleek, silver coloured, iron fireplaces are ideal for contemporary modern homes. A contemporary fireplace surrounds may be made of any material as long as the lines are clean-edged without a lot of fussy material, it will complement the modern minimalistic look.

• Rustic, country houses usually look best with a wood or stone fireplace surround design. The wood can be anything from oak to maple, lighter shades of wood tend to look more informal than than dark wooden mantles and side pieces.
With the increase of fuel prices, it's no surprise many businesses are finding it hard to keep up. This post details how to make your business energy efficient.

With all the gadgets and hi-tech equipment most businesses use today, it’s no surprise that electricity bills are reaching an all-time high. With the constant increase in energy and fuel prices, business owners are finding it particularly difficult to keep up with the amount of bills coming through the door. However there are several cost effective ways a business can substantially cut down energy use and save some money.

Here are few tips to help you create an energy efficient business.

Shut Down

It may seem like an obvious solution but many business owners forget to turn their electrical equipment off at night, however the financial penalty can be huge.

Office Equipment

Invest in office equipment that carries an energy efficient label on it. From fax machines, to water coolers and computers, if you purchase products that are eco-friendly you could find yourself using over 50% less energy than other models.

Energy Suppliers

Consider changing your energy supplier to a greener provider, some energy companies now offer 100% renewable energy. Energy efficiency aside you may also be able to save money on your bills.

Lighting

Invest in some energy efficient light bulbs and make sure you turn them off when there is no one in the office. Make sure lights are turned off in areas around the business that aren’t used as frequently as others such as, hallways, cupboards, toilets and kitchens.

Timers

Use plug in timers on water coolers and coffee machines. If you have a water cooler or a coffee machine that keeps water hot or cool 24-7 it may be worthwhile investing in a plug in timer that allows you to program when these are on and off.

Renewable Energy

Invest in renewable energy installations, renewable energy is energy that is generated from natural resources such as the sun, water and wind. Whether you choose to install solar panels or heat pumps, these are a renewable source of energy so not only could you save yourself some money but you’ll also be making the world a greener place.

Here at Gas World our installers are fully qualified and have a wealth of experience when it comes to renewable energy products. If you would like more information on our services or products or require one of our fully qualified plumbers in Bath, please call us on: or contact us here.

We've told you why you should get your boiler serviced but now it's time to tell you the benefits that having a service can have on your health and finances.

You may be guilty of thinking that getting your boiler serviced is a waste of money and that by skipping your annual service you’ll be saving the pennies in time for Christmas. However getting your boiler serviced regularly is a small price to pay compared to paying out for expensive repair bills and replacements this winter.

As one of our previous posts discussed why you should get your boiler serviced in time for winter, we thought, as we are now well into the cold winter months we’d tell you about the benefits of having your boiler serviced.

Costly Breakdowns

Boilers suffer wear and tear over the years, which of course will increase the risk of it breaking down. The last thing you want is your boiler breaking down when it’s needed the most, this could not only result in a costly emergency call out, but you’ll also have to endure a chilly wait without any heating or hot water. Although minor faults can be inexpensive to fix, repair costs can be high and the longer a problem is left the worse it will get. A regular service will ensure such situations don’t arise.

Warranty

Your boiler’s warranty can become invalid if you do not get your boiler serviced regularly by a professional.

The Silent Killer

A regular service will ensure there are no leaks that may cause carbon poisoning. We hear more about the ‘silent killer’ at this time of the year than any other. Carbon monoxide can be difficult to detect and works pretty swiftly giving you and your family no warning of its presence. Keep your household safe this winter and get your boiler serviced.

Lower Bills

As a boiler functions, deposits build up over time which will reduce your boiler’s working capacity. This means that your boiler’s efficiency will decrease whilst your bills increase. A yearly service will see that your boiler is completely cleaned of deposits and blockages which could see your energy bills being lowered and your boiler becoming more environmentally friendly, and who doesn’t want lower bills before Christmas?

At this time of year it couldn’t be more important to check that your boiler is in full working order, after all a small pay out now could save you a whole heap of money and trouble in the future.
Tired of sky high heating bills? Well look no further. This latest news post from our experts details how to keep warm and reduce your bills this winter.

The big freeze is nearly upon us and we’re already experiencing a few chilly nights, most households have had to crank the heating up to beat the winter blues, which means winter is nearly upon us and so are the winter heating bills. The dreaded annual increase of utility bills is set to rise once again this year, and with household budgets already tight it’s time to tighten our belts in time for Christmas and save the pennies so we’ve put together a list to help you to lower your heating bills this year.

Insulation

Small changes in your household can have a ripple of effects on your utility bills. Make sure your house is insulated properly, in particular make sure your walls and loft are insulated, insulation will trap the heat in your house making it feel a lot warmer, and in turn save you money on your heating bills. If you’ve not got insulation it might be something worth thinking about.

Wrap up

Now you may feel like a student with the heating down low and your outside winter wear on in the house but let’s be honest you can’t keep your house warm enough all the time to be walking around in shorts and a t shirt all day. Make sure you wrap up, there’s no need to heat a household if it’s just one person that’s cold, get some woolly socks, a jumper and a blanket and not only are you toasty warm you’re also comfy ready for a night in front of the box. When you’ve wrapped up warm turn the thermostat down by a few degrees and you’ll soon notice the difference in your bills.

Heating

Every household is guilty of leaving the heating on all day when you’re out or turning on the heating to heat the whole house, the chances are you and your family are not occupying every room in your household all day. Only heat the rooms that you’re using, that way you are not wasting heat on the spare rooms that no one ever goes in. It is also a chance to grab your family or house mates and have some time together. Programme your thermostat so when your asleep or at work it’s off or turned low so you are not wasting heat and energy on an empty household, turn it up slightly in the morning when you wake up so you don’t get those cold winter blues.

Become eco friendly

If you’ve got the time and the extra pennies why not get eco-friendly. Use eco-friendly appliances like solar panels or heat pumps, these could save you a whole heap of money, not only will they cost you less they are also a renewable source of energy so your being kind to the planet as well.
