GATE 2012 Analysis
GATE 2012 (CS&IT) largely followed the pattern of last year's paper, as previously announced in the GATE 2012 prospectus. The paper consisted of 65 questions with a maximum score of 100 marks. The questions were MCQ type with 4options. Every wrong answer incurred a negative marking of 1/3.
The question-wise breakup of the CS&IT paper was as follows:

Engineering Mathematics: 15 marks
General aptitude (verbal ability & numerical ability): 15 marks
Core Engineering Subjects: 70 marks

In general, the paper was slightly tougher as compared to GATE 2011. A majority of the questions were from DBMS & Data structure & Algorithm and Computer Network whereas very few questions were seen from Compiler Design. Surprisingly, there were no questions from Software Engineering.

In terms of the difficulty level, questions from TOC & DMGT were toughest and Questions on DBMS and Data structure were the easiest.

GATE 2012 saw the weight-age allotted to Computer Network increase from 6% to 13%, while the weightage allotted to Computer Organization decreased from 16% to 3% as compared to last year. There was little change in the weight-age of subjects like Maths, General Aptitude, Compiler Design & Digital.

Last year the cut-off marks for this branch were: 25.00 for general, 22.5 for OBC & 16.67 for SC/ST candidates. However, this year cut-off is likely to be slightly higher owing to the large number of students appearing for GATE 2012.

One change in writing the exam is to use Black ball point pen to bubble the answers in the ORS sheet.
Here is a small list of formulas for trigonometric identities that may help.

What is New in GATE 2012?

Application Process:

In GATE 2012, candidates need to register and fill the application ONLINE only by accessing the zonal GATE websites of IISc and seven IITs. The application process is complete only when a print out of the filled ONLINE application with the candidate's signature and a good quality photo affixed in the appropriate place is received by the respective GATE office along with necessary documents, if any, on or before 24 October 2011. Please note that sale of application forms through banks and GATE office counters has been discontinued.

Downloadable Admit Card:

Sending Admit cards by post has been discontinued from this year. Admit cards can only be downloaded from the zonal GATE websites from 2nd January 2012. Bring the admit card to the test center along with at least one original (not photocopied / scanned copy) and valid (not expired) photo identification.

K4 and Q3 are graphs with the following structures.

K4 is a square with four vertices every vertex connecting to every other vertex
Q3 is a graph representing a cube.

A) K4 is planar while Q3 is not B) Both K4 and Q3 are planar
C) Q3 is planar while K4 is not D) Neither K4 nor Q3 is planar

My answer is
B) Both K4 and Q3 are planar.
The cube can also be untangled to form a planar graph.
